You gotta have some hot soup before your sashimi. I purchased the kit with salmon, and tuna sashimi with Inari stuffed with furikake rice. Some take and go items and Menu Board with Poke Bowls and Sushi sets. Food: We have only tried the pre-made take out Tofu Salad and take out Sushi and Sashimi. We did not order a menu item. The Sushi looked very fresh and had large thick slices of Ahi and Salmon. At $10-$11 this was a great price. At Shirokiya a smaller/similar sushi tray would be $15. The quality here was way better than average. My wife loved it and she has gone twice already. I had the tofu salad and it included sea asparagus, avocado, romaine lettuce and tomatoes as well as an Asian Sam Choy style salad dressing. It was huge and a great light lunch. While shopping at Ala Moana one day, I decided to check out the newest food court The Lanai. I wasn't really hungry when I walked in but once I saw Ahi & Vegetable, my hunger kicked in ! #93 of 2017 This was my first time going to a Ahi & Vegetable. I was excited to after hearing all about their other 2 locations from other yelpers. Located in the Lanai area, where Shirokiya use to be. It's like a little food court area. Yes, another one in Ala Moana but it needed it. I would go to the Starbuck's across the way because it was dead here didn't have to deal with the lines. There was only 2 tables there and now there's about a dozen. So much for my little hide away. Anyway, place is clean. Customer service was nice and courteous but seemed nervous. I ordered the Ahi Salad, no dressing. The fish salty enough. For $8.50 it wasn't that bad. It was okay for me. Portion was nice. It was fresh just not fresh fresh. Maybe because it was late in the evening. So, I wasn't happy with it. I will give another try. Maybe closer to when they open. I like the concept. Quick bite. Quick late lunch. Take a chance on Ahi Vegetable at The Lanai. Nice surprise. Get the bento combos($13) if you hungry. I got the B5 - ahi poke, spicy ahi and Teri chicken. Suggest the sushi or brown rice(need spice or health?) The ahi poke was the best with excellent flavoring and bit of onions. The spicy ahi was good, not exceptional but good portion and smooth in texture. The Teri chicken was supposed to be the reliable portion of the bento, but was only average. Be very careful just chomping on the pre-cut thigh morsels. I got surprised by two bits of thigh cartilage and had to regurgitate the partially chewed bite. Next time, I avoid chomping and assuming the morsel is tender throughout! Waited a couple hours to gage the MSG factor - none noted. If you are sensitive to MSG you know what I am talking about. Love getting food from this place. The ala Moana location has lots of parking. Also the ala Moana location has more food options as I haven't seen all the options at the Kalihi location. As an example, you can get 12 slices of sashimi which could be the regular of ahi and salmon (6 pieces each) or it could be hamachi with ahi (6 pieces each). The price is good for $12 and the fish is fresh. Sometimes they'll have bento plates for $10-$12 of sushi which has the fresh salmon or ahi slices for nigiri with cone sushi or hand roll cut pieces with ahi. The bento or plate come with soup, which the soup tastes good and I don't know what the soup is called. The wait is not too long for your order as it may take 1-3 minutes depending on how many people order in front of you. My go to is the 6 piece hamachi with 6 piece ahi for the 12 piece sashimi OR I get the 6 piece ahi with 6 piece salmon. I usually ask for sushi rice. Some people may get steamed white rice or salad which I have tried before and all options are good. The sashimi size is great and quite fresh. Definitely want to try all the dishes as there's like 40 or so different plates. read more

No worries though, it's really enough to share one of their plates with your lucky partner. The soup that comes with the meal is pretty good and the service at the counter is friendly. So, when I strolled through The Lānai in Ala Moana Shopping Center, I was thrilled to see a healthier option than the usual take out. I understand that this is take out, so I'm not asking for much more than a smile and quick service. As I walked up to the cashier, no smile. Ok, I can get past that. I ordered the ahi salad, and asked if I could have it without furikake. The woman looked and asked, "huh," in an irritated tone of voice. I repeated my question, and she repeated her response. I then asked, "Does it have furikake? The picture looks like it has furikake on it." Her co-worker quickly stepped in before she had a chance to hit me with a third wave of attitude, and informed me that it was limu (fresh seaweed), not furikake. I didn't wait long for my food, which I appreciated, but then again, how long does it take to pop poke on some lettuce? Eager to eat my healthy fare, I dug in. The service was less than mediocre, and the fish had that old, fishy taste, as opposed to the crisp, clean taste of good ahi. They charged $11.52, with tax, for old fish and about 2 cups of lettuce. Unfortunately, the spicy ahi comes as grinded fish instead of being cut as cubes. Fish quality was good but still wasn't worth $17.25. Anyway, ordered the combo bento that includes your choice of rice, spicy salmon, spicy tuna and ahi limu poke. Fresh tasting limu poke, spicy ahi had some wasabi flavor mixed in (yuk) and spicy salmon had chewy skin included. We chose sushi rice that went well overall 3.5 stars My partner was delighted with the seaweed salty soup. 4 stars Would come here again. Since we were in the vicinity, we decided to give this place a try. Their menu looks pretty good. Of course this is our first visit so we didn't try too many things, but this is like fast food fish - we couldn't pass up the opportunity to try it. What caught my eye? Sashimi bowls - good heavens was I excited. Hamachi is my all time favorite fish to eat either in sushi or as sashimi so naturally, I went for the Hamachi bowl w/sushi rice. I think it's pretty awesome that you can pick your rice. White, sushi, or brown. Or you can have your sashimi on salad -- pretty awesome for a healthy option. My bf chose to get the Ahi Katsu. While we weren't majorly disappointed, there are a few things that wasn't quite up to par for us. First off lets go over the positives of our order. It was made and received quickly. The portions are great especially for the cost. They give a lot of fish and its proportionate to the rice. (I can't stand going to places that try to make up for the lack of entree by giving you a crap load of rice). And the employees, they were definitely efficient and very courteous. And here we go with ... the so called cons for lack of a better word. Now the cons aren't REALLY cons, they're really just qualms because we're, I guess ... picky. So for starters I'm not used to sashimi cut that thick. I'm very used to the Ito kukuri in regards to sashimi size. I assume this is like the thicker version - kaku zukuri. Again, this is just a personal preference thing and shouldn't really put anyone off. Also I'm very used to eating the haole version of hamachi - where they cut off majority of the red parts of the fish and serve mainly the buttery white part of the fish. That was really my only issue with my food. Again my bf had the Ahi katsu. It was a little over cooked as the fish was a little tough and the katsu sauce was a tad bit salty. Although we personally had issues with the food, I still decided to give this place 4 stars. All of our issues were mainly personal preference related. The quality of the food was not bad. The fish was not sinewy and all in all for the amount of fish you get and the dollars spent, its really quite good. In the end, I would definitely go back to try other items on their menu. Ordered the ahi poke bowl which came with bonito soup. I especially enjoyed the fresh quality of the ahi. I'm always skeptical when it comes to raw fish. Most places use frozen these days and at that price of $13, I wasn't sure. They also have options for brown rice, white rice or sushi rice. Another great touch. I got the sushi rice of course and the rice was seasoned just right. I noticed great sashimi options so I'll probably need to make more trips there. This foos court is located on the second floor in Shirokiya's old space, right next to Macy's. Poke eateries are abundant on Oahu, and finding those whose freshness and taste are consistencies, can be rare. Ahi & Vegetable is both fresh and tasty, offering not only poke bowls, but bentos as well. The latter definitely separates them from the rest. The choices of bentos is plentiful. My boyfriend and I experienced Ahi & Vegetable for the first time together. While taking a little time to peruse the menu, we both ended up ordering the same bento. We both got the bento choice which includes shoyu ahi poke, spicy ahi poke, and grilled bbq chicken. On a bed of rice, you may choose between white, brown, or sushi rice. Packed in a regular size bento box, there is one scoop of each poke, with a generous piece of bbq chicken. Both poke were fresh, and along with the chicken, was delicious too. I like the whole set up and ambience. It's a more modern food court. So you just need to order and find a comfortable place to sit. We went at about 7 and there were a lot of places to sit. You can also order sushi platters from here for your next party. If you are in Ala Moana near Macy's or the Apple store and your stomach is giving you signs.
