Stopped by here while waiting for our flight to Tokyo. Plenty of foods but they were on the bland side. They happened to serve Italian foods that day (12/14). Drinks were plenty too and I did try some of their wines. Kiddos happily snacking on pretzels while having their juice. The place is clean and customer service is great. Just don't fill yourself crazy at this place. If you are flying AC business class, you know you will eat non stop and the foods are great up there. This should be a place for you to have a comfortable waiting time while snacking, reading or charging your phone. They offered free WIFI however it didn't work on my iphone 6 that day. read more

I finally made it into this elite lounge and was I ever disappointed. What a let down! Don't get me wrong...the staff who checked me in was superior but when I tried to get my boarding pass, the agent was a bit brash. The cell free zone is supposed to be the quiet zone but people were speaking so loudly. Add to that the frustration of finding an outlet to charge my phone. People had to unplug lamps just to charge. Other reviews reflect poor clean up and poor food selection. So I ventured down to the Premium Plaza and found the lounge better suited to my needs. read more

This is a big place with modern decors. I am usually there in the afternoon so I don't know what the food is like in the morning. In the afternoon, there is nothing of substance that will address the hunger issue (other Star Alliances lounges have good stuff like sandwiches - e.g Zurich, Narita, etc.). This place has mostly finger foods / munches. The good part is the soft drinks and the liquors - but I avoid them so I won't get "altitude sickness!" There are 2 problems with this place.... (1) the elevators are super slow and super crowded all the time. There is no stairway. Wonder how they pass the fire code inspection? (2) There is no bottle water. Those things are valuable for us flyers that can pick up 1-2 bottles before heading out to the gate. The lounge in Newark Terminal A (1-16 gate area) provides the small water bottles. Surf for free but that's not a stretch since all of Pearson offers free WiFi. Although the total area is large and offers a separate children area (greatly appreciated), the lounge feels small. The raised area in the center breaks up the floor plan for a chopped up deal. Still, more room than you'll get on the flight. Compared to lounges in around the world (HK, London T1, Beijing, Tokyo) Maple Leaf is below average but compared to US lounges (LA, DFW, Chicago, San Fran, Denver) it's way above par. So my first review was for the International Lounge. Today I am flying domestic and I am surprised to see differences. Domestic is much noisier and very little by way of food put at breakfast time. I see yogurt, toast and a bowl of fruit. My flight is 1PM so here's hoping for some decent snacks or I may be grouchy. I don't drink alcohol when flying so those goodies are wasted on me. It's lunchtime now. They have put out edamame, two kinds of soup and four identical looking salads each with kale and quinoa in them. Good tomato soup. This place can be mad house from what I have read as with so many free entry vouchers and access options via status, credit card etc. The lounge if you are travelling within North America is decent as they actually serve some food but when one compares it to other international lounges it is a bit underwhelming to say the least. Some people paying the full business class fare might feel they are not getting there value for money I suppose. Ah well I got here for an early flight and they weren't serving booze yet, luckily my poison of choice is an espresso drink which the full automatic machine served on demand. So with a couple of shot espresso to pick me up and fruit salad to keep me till my flight I think it worked just fine. There is a thankfully a quite area and some showers as well. The wait for couple of hours at the airport became bearable as the place wasn't crowded though did start to fill up. ( i paid an extra $1450.00 cad for a one way to Hong kong from Toronto for the upgrade). I was also travelling with my husband and he was hoping to use the lounge, we were going to pay. Only the business ticket holder had complimentary entry to the lounge and if you bring a guest, they had to pay. which was fine. but when we arrived at the desk, the old rude ladies told us that because my ticket was a bid ticket my husband could not enter even if we wanted to pay for the entry fee. I know air canada doesn't have the best rep for their customer service...but i wasn't expecting it to be this bad. bad service and now lets review the food...it was crap. there was cereal, juice, milk, scrambled eggs, bacons, beer, coffee, toast, some fruit...the food was barely hot and the toast machine was always occupied with people leaving their bread in the toaster and not taking it. Perhaps the worst lounge I've ever been in, including the Bangkok Airlines *economy* class lounge at Suvarnabhumi, which was significantly nicer. For starters, we had a seven minute wait to get in. Longish line when we got there. Staff were slow and seem unconcerned and bored with getting passengers in quickly. We sit down in a couple of chairs only to notice the chair across from us had a big rip in it, and the carpet nearby had a big stain on it. Overall, the lounge looked like something out of the seventies that had not been updated in forever. Very unappealing, really. The food choices were equally uninteresting and unappealing. On a recent trip to Toronto I was excited to try the Maple Leaf lounge in Terminal 1, especially given the description on their website as "award winning lounges." On the positive side, the space is quite large with lots of seating. But what I didn't understand was the near total lack of outlets unless you were in the business lounge or snagged a spot near an outlet. In 2019 that is unacceptable. In United lounges nearly every seat has an outlet or USB port. In addition the food selection was the poorest I've ever seen in a lounge. Self serve bar was nice but wine options very limited. This lounge needs a serious update to bring it into the year 2019 and that includes technology, food, and wine offerings. read more

Very spacious lounge with lots of room. I preferred the business center as it's a separate area in the lounge itself and was much more quiet. They have a cubicle setup and left like an office/library-like combo. I was able to plug in and knock out some emails before going to the gate in peace and quiet. The food selection is decent. There are soups and salads, chips and salsa, and cookies. Decent assortment of drinks including alcoholic "pour your own" section. A tip to find this lounge: coming out of immigration, take a sharp sharp right around the escalators to an elevator bank. Take that up to floor 4. If you just go straight out of immigration, you will miss it and if you keep walking, end up all the way at the end and have to high tail it back. I'd give this a 3.5. There are 3 Maple Leaf Lounges at Pearson Airport. I'm describing the Transborder one (US departures). The lounge is large and airy. However the walls seem dirty (need fresh paint) and the carpets probably need a deep clean (or be replaced). The food is fine, lots of alcohol. The lack of electrical outlet is puzzling (I 4 devices plugged in right now, I found the odd chair close to an outlet). I've used the showers before, they are great. Everything, including the alcohol is self serve. The food needs some help. Not good at all. I thought that the food in the United Club needed help but I would take that over this. Furniture and facilities are old, broken, dirty and with stains. -Bathrooms are not kept clean all the time. -Business Centre cubicles have deep stains on the walls and chairs are all broken (it does not hold your back or bottom properly) -In general, the cleaning is a lot slower than other equivalent lounges -Food is as bad and with limited options -Carpet is old and with stains -Showers are locked ( it is not like the competition where there are full-time attendants). What's the difference between an 'ok' airport experience and an amazing one? Before my most recent vacation I figured it was either not being seated next to the crying baby OR not having your flight(s) delayed after a lengthy trek through security. While those might still be the difference between Terrible and OK, the ONLY way to get from OK to Amazing is by visiting the Air Canada Maple Leaf Lounge at Toronto Pearson Airport. Admittedly I scored pretty huge because with my credit card I get access to the lounge free once per year and I can bring a guest for 50% off (around $15-20). That said I can understand how the cost to get in for regular Air Canada customers might be a bit steep, but realistically when you factor in what you get, even paying full price is worth it. To begin, you've got an exclusive lounge that isn't overly crowded, with various options of comfortable seats and tables to hang out in. The wifi is free here so if you're on business or just needing to plug in you've got that in addition to a full business centre. Next you've got access to a free shower... a shower, in the airport. Yep! And if that's not enough, well then there is the all you can eat buffet which on the day I visited has various kinds of pasta, a Pho station, chicken parmesan, veal, desserts and more and more and more (and cookies)! And if you're STILL not impressed well then shut up and have a drink already and stop complaining. All you can drink (AYCD) alcohol buffet complete with various wines, beers in bottles and on draught, every spirit known to man, mixes (pops and juices), scotches, and on and on. Lastly, while you're enjoying the comforts of the lounge they have free popular magazines by the dozen that you can just take with you - FOR FREE! So let's break this down: - Cost of the ACML, let's say approximately $30-40/person Vs. - 1-2 Magazines/Newspapers $10 - AYCE Food ($20-25) based on typical buffet prices OR $40+ for what you would pay in airport prices for a sit down meal - Unlimited drinks (I had 3). Call that $18? Fair? - Shower - priceless Total.... $50-$60+? So overall you're still saving a huge amount of money AND you don't need to walk around the airport looking for a spot, everything you need is right at your fingertips. Average airport lounge. Specifically one in the US departure gate. Definitely experienced much better and worst. Very few food options and would be hard pressed to get an entire meal here. Mostly finger food, but they do have soup at all times. Fully stocked bar and normal wine selection, but very few beer options and none I really wanted to drink (which I was more interested in). Plus beer on tap always foams up so can be tricky and even if you do it right a decent amount of foam. Self serve bar though which was awesome. There are plenty of reasons why you need to come here if your ticket allows you to access the lounge. Peacefulness: If you are on transit and have a long layover... this is your mecca. Away from crying children, people eating burgers at the terminal (gross), noisy groups in jogging pants (gross-er) and that ear-piercing boarding announcement every 5 minutes. The airport is not the best place to stay after two hours. The same goes if you're flying from YYZ and need a quiet place to relax. Snacks: Very very nice clam chowder soup, few pretzels, a pedestrian salad bar (very pedestrian), biscuits, hummus and a coffee machine. It's not a meal but good enough to fill you if you only need a quick bite. Oh booze is free. Did I mention booze? Yes free beer and wine. And snacks. If you add it all in, it would cost you $ 30 outside. Wifi: Very reliable wifi if you need it. People: Have you been burned by match.com lately? Kidding. People watch. On few occasions, you can find someone willing to talk to you. A single traveler (or single in life) you can meet again in your next travel or to a coffee shop outside the lounge. If you're brave enough, this MIGHT be an alternative to the bar. People on expense account or just plain wealthy makes me think that the folks are sort of a good catch (ahem). Shower: Not a spa. Not a motel. C'mmon. Again, kidding. This is one of the few in North America that has shower. I often shower here especially if I'm coming from work. Hot shower is soothing before a five or 9-hour flight. Normally you can get a stall right away during mid day but will get busy during end of the day. And during flight delays due to weather interruptions. There you go folks. If you're not flying on business or you don't have Altitude status, you can get membership or buy a pass. But $ 50 may not be worth it for a short stay. But totally worth if you need to wait for your flight more than 4 hours. read more

There are separate lounges for domestic, US, and international travellers. Once checked-in at the service counter, food, drinks, and reading materials are free. The food inclued oatmeals, eggs, fruits, and pastries for breakfast. Lunch and dinner include soups, pasta, sandwiches, salads. My personal favorite is the Thai Curry soup. There is gourmet coffee and a wide assortment of tea bags for all meals. There is also wine and beer available for dinner and lunch. Service is excellent. Dirty dishes are quickly and regularly cleared away. Newspaper and magazines are regularly replenished. In cases of travel re-scheduling, the Service counter can page travellers for updates. The domestic and US lounges can be busy and crowded at times. There may be a long wait at the check-in counter. The elevators may be crowded and slow. AC sometimes recommend travellers to plan additional time to reach the gates during "Rush Hours". In comparison with other lounges in Canada and foreign airports, I find the Toronto lounges quite spacious, but somewhat lacking in privacy. There are few quiet spots for a nap. read more

The lounge is very modern and relaxing! Usually, lounges get very packed and noisy, but this lounge was very big, spacious, and comfortable! I was here for about two hours for a layover, and I was able to relax and watch a movie on my cell phone without getting disturbed. Also, some of the seats have outlets underneath them, which was super convenient! I was able to charge my phone while sitting comfortably instead of sitting on the ground next to an outlet. Besides the relaxing structure of the lounge, there are also a huge selection of shops, eateries, and bars. It's always good to have options, especially for those who are several hours early or have LONG layovers! But these are trivial in light of the simple, but important benefits mentioned above. Very nice airport lounge. Excellent service. Once I'd left my wallet on a chair, and boarded the plane without realizing. Imagine my surprise when a flight attendant came to my seat, delivered a message that was sent to the pilot from the ground control that my wallet was found and put on the next flight to my destination. I was SHOCKED (in a nice way) that this had been all arranged before I even realized that my wallet was missing. Obviously I don't have a similar "lost and found" experience in another airport to compare to (thank goodness). Terminal 1 Maple Leaf Lounge - International flight Canada to Hong Kong Biased as I may be, I hate anything Air Canada. And yet I had to take an AC flight to Hong Kong - another review on that. My parents and I made a bet to ourselves that the Maple Leaf lounge would be packed (for a Saturday morning) ... and we were right. No seat was available, luggages everywhere, people everywhere, chaos at best. But we weren't disappointed because my parents and I already knew this would happen. Our back up plan? We knew the Priority Pass lounge would be empty so let me share a trick with you. The Maple Leaf lounge has a great and wide variety of magazines. We ended up collecting 12 different magazines so we could read in the Priority Pass lounge as well as on the plane. Both lounges are relatively close by to each other so if you have the Priority Pass card, or the Platinum/Centurion American Express card (which allows one complimentary guest to access the Priority lounge) head over there if Maple Leaf is mega nuts. All in all, terminal 1's Maple Leaf lounge was a complete let down. You probably would have access to more seats at your departure gate. read more

I love AC Lounges. So much better than United's Red Carpet Club, and personally think it is much better than Lufthansa's. My one downside...kids. There needs to be a bit more of a crackdown on people who bring their kids and let them run wild. There should be a specific area for people who bring kids, and have it separate from the business travelers. I have seen United staff crack down on people before, and I applaud it. I am a very heavy traveler, and sometimes need the quiet space of the lounge to work in between flights. People changing their kids diapers, or having them loudly play in the same area as business travelers is poor service on AC's part. read more

Glenlivet, Tanqueray, other top-shelf liquors. Decent, but unremarkable wines. Several different beers on tap. Alcohol is locked off prior to 11 AM sadly. Great coffee as well with grind-and-brew espresso machines. The STAFF: Super-friendly and happy to chat. They keep this place clean and running smoothly. The entrance staff are so much better than other lounges. The often-used term "lounge dragon" does not apply here. I only had one reason to go here! It was free!!! One of the perks (or caveats) of being a frequent homeless flyer. The biggest problem: there is a real chance of you missing your flight because the elevator line-up is longer than the bread lines during the Great Depression! And don't bother asking the poor ladies at the front desk where the stairs are, because there aren't any! The lounge is usually packed which is no wonder given the fact that everyone with an American Express (or a TD visa card) can now get in for free! I arrived at 7:30 am from a 16 hour long flight and expected good breakfast to be available. However, to my surprise the breakfast was comparable (or even poorer) to roadside motels. Only warm / hot food was oatmeal. Other than that, they had stale bread, packaged cereals, cold hard boiled eggs, and yogurt packs. They did not even have anything for me to order. Airports are super loud, especially if all you want to do is curl up and read while you wait for your flight call. Also, seating in most airports? Are you kidding? Forget comfort, say hello to a numb, unhappy butt. Next time I have to go to San Francisco, I'm remembering this place has a shower, because oh man. That would make me feel so much better! Free flowing booze may be of interest to some, but as a non-drinker, I wish there were more options for water-based beverages. I love making myself a pile of bread rounds and drowning them in olive oil and balsamic vinegar. Yum, yum! I become an Air Canada member the benefits even though Maple Leaf Lounges are not a part of those benefits you do get a "discount" which means you get $5 worth of food for a $20plus entrance fee. But the lounge it self is actually quite nice, it's very comfortable certainly better than sitting by the gate. It's quite and I must admit I have fallen a sleep on my seat more than once. The food even though I have complained about the price above is not bad, it's a continental breakfast, a working lunch, and a poor man's dinner but the choices at least are healthy. When it comes to the services it's the usual WiFi, business area, sitting area and a dining area. The view of the Terminal 1 runways are not bad. You can stare out watching the planes land and take of. There is a lot of movement out there. I have enjoyed all my visits here. read more

Took me 10 minutes to find a table with room for two for breakfast. Food was disappointing. Free hard-boiled eggs and oatmeal, yawn. Decent coffee machine I guess? The best part about the food area was the grab-and-go drink section, which is to say it was underwhelming. I wish there was an option to pay for better breakfast. Despite the nicely-appointed interior, I skipped out because the lounge was just too crowded. The worst part by far was exiting. During rush hour this totally breaks down because the only way out is a pair of elevators. I sat in a queue 15 people deep and waited for 2 elevators to pass. The lounge is well equipped with everything from showers, to the most recent issue of the Economist (which you can take with you)! The food options range from appetizers to hot food and to my surprise, the self serve open bar features more than a few top shelf items. Perhaps most importantly for frequent fliers, the lounge seating is definitely more comfortable than the average flight lounge, though I did not notice any beds/ recliners! Finally, I did not sense an air (!) of pretension and instead found the staff to be very courteous and accommodating. Overall a classy and presentable flight lounge that provides a good first impression of the nation's biggest airport and city. Well done AC, at least you got this one right! read more
