I needed a programmable thermostat replaced (the existing one wasn't 100% reliable) and was referred to several companies by my home warranty company (HMS). I called all of them and though he wasn't the cheapest, Darius with Air One Tech was the most professional on the phone. Side note, I can't stand when a business owner answers the phone with just a "hello?" No business name? Not very professional, even if the contact # is your personal cell. So I scheduled an appointment between the window of 8am and 12pm, and asked for a call when he was on his way. Darius called a little before 9am and said he was about 30 mins away. I was pleasantly surprised when he called back a few mins after 9.30am saying he had arrived. Darius installed the new device, swept up the debris, and explained how to use the new thermostat and was out in about an hour. Came to about $120 since I already had the thermostat to be replaced. I work in technology so I understand when folks describe a problem they know nothing about, but that for me, is second nature to troubleshoot and figure out. In the HVAC space, I've gone to companies many times for things like having freon added or a capacitor replaced. I've even switched out the main board (on my own) on my furnace to repair a problem. When I've had other companies give me a diagnosis, I'm always partly skeptical and want a second opinion. This was not the case with Air One Tech and right off the bat, my comfort level with Dariush was very high. So much so that I committed over $10K for a system install (w/ 0% interest via Wells Fargo) and had my upstairs zone system replaced. Out went a ~12 year old system and in went a new one. I was thoroughly impressed by Darioush and his team. Long story short, they did a great job installing both an air scrubber and whole house steam humidifier for the house we just moved into. They ran into some issues based on the layout of the house (it's almost 40 years old) when installing the humidifier but they went out of their way to make sure everything was done the right way - even though it took much longer than most installs. They came back after the initial install and brought in an electrician to snake wires to other side of the basement to ensure the humidifier was drawing from the right electrical station and working at full capacity. I bought a new townhouse which apparently came with a cheap AC unit that was only 2 years old when it started leaking and couldn't be fixed. I had 3 different HVAC companies come in and confirm the situation because I couldn't believe I had to get a new AC unit. Out of the 3 companies, Air One Tech was the most responsive, did not try to upsell me and tried to give me multiple solutions. They came out almost immediately after I called because I had no AC and it was 90+ degrees that day. They sent me 4 quotes with various price points to either replace a part on the old unit or replace my AC unit. I have a maintenance plan with JD Air, but recently had an problem that JD Air wasn't able to diagnose. I chose Air One Tech to do further diagnosis due to the Yelp reviews. They were able to determine why my heat wasn't turning off and the parts to replace. I've been generally happy with JD Air, but Air One Tech's diagnosis seemed pretty standard - so I'm a bit confused by JD Air's inability to diagnose this issue correctly. During the 1st visit the more junior Air One Tech technician didn't get it 100% fixed, so I called the company the next morning, a Saturday morning. A more senior technician came that day and replaced one more part and the fix has been permanent. Their customer service was very good. It has now been about 2 weeks and everything is working well. Previously I was experience the issue almost daily for months. I'm very happy with the fix. I do have one doubt if a part that was replaced by Air One Tech was necessary, but if it only cost me a few hundred unnecessary dollars to get this fixed I'm happy. Also, that potential extra cost was still replacing a very old part that was becoming worn down, so I'm probably better off overall. Over the past few years I have used Air One Tech for all our heating and AC needs. I've had other firms but Air One Tech is far and above the others not only in technical competency but also in "easy-to-deal-with-ness", feeling that they really care about my satisfaction and they are cost competitive. For the past 7 years they have provided the regular maintenance for our heating and AC, and even installed a humidifier. They fixed things that were broken (on our outside AC unit) installed a new thermostat, and provided full explanations of the issues (with photos of parts and of our units) and what was actually needed - - and unbelievably, some things that could be put off as they were not a crisis today. In one instance, our older attic heating unit (fan) was on its last legs. They said that I could replace it now, or wait and see how long it lasted and then they could replace it immediately. Most other firms tell you anything they find slightly wrong is a cataclysmic event and unless you replace it immediately the world will stop spinning and come off it's axis. In the past they replaced our old attic furnace unit. It was somewhat of a challenge (in my opinion) but they very effectively maneuvered the replacement pieces thru our small attic opening and reassembled them. Job was done in less than one day - -effectively and efficiently. For the installation they had a 2-3 man team, all surfaces, rugs, stairs, etc were covered up to stay clean, and they cleaned up thoroughly when they left. They always wear (masks- if required/requested) and booties over their shoes. Of the 4 or 5 different maintenance folks that have come out over the past 7 years or so, they have been competent and personable. I have dealt many times with the CEO Dariush Jamsab, who is always available to discuss or explain things and often visits himself. He is quite knowledgeable, easy to deal with and fair...and he always follows up. In addition to Dariush the office manager, Allison Kirkman, is always following up - to make sure I know about schedules, trying to accommodate my needs and availability and she is exceedingly pleasant to deal with . One other thing that is most unique (that I have not seen from other companies) is before the (a) technician arrives, I get a text not only with the technician's name but also a photo so I know who to expect and what they look like. Bottom line: I don't recommend many firms but I unequivocally recommend Air One Tech. I've used Air One Tech for quite a few years now. I found Air One Tech when I wanted a second opinion on furnace maintenance. The first business made it seem like I needed a new furnace ASAP, getting into a service agreement with them was the way to go, the sky was falling, blah, blah, blah. So glad I did my research and found Dariush and Air One Tech! One room on our top floor wasn't getting sufficient air flow and as a result was VERY hot. Over the past year, we had the company that installed the unit come out to try to fix it only to tell us it is "normal" that some rooms in a house don't get proper air flow. After some inspection, Dariush quickly recognized that our situation wasn't "normal" and provided a solution right away. Dariush and his crew did absolutely wonderful work. My wife and I just purchased a new home, 21 year old hvac system. We got quotes ranging from 38k Carrier infinity system to a 13k goodman system. Dariush didn't try and upsell (some contractors do), he ensured that I understood that cooling and heating capacity are limited by the size of the ducting in the house (only so much air can move through these ducts). He ensured that all work would be permitted (some contractors offered permits as optional... seriously). The scope of work was - Replace both gas furnaces with new Trane, equal sizing - Replace both air conditioners - Replace both electrical whips to outside air conditioners - Add two steam humidifiers - Add two 20a 240v dedicated circuits for steam humidifiers - Replace two thermostats with ecobee smart thermostats - Run new thermostat wire for one thermostat to accommodate multi-stage heater (Other had req'd wiring already) - Upsize duct filters from 1" to 4" - Install new duct filter cabinets That's a lot of work. We were told it was going to take two days, they completed it in one and half. We had heat (it was winter at the time) at the end of the first day, humidifiers online half way through day 2. The end result is pictured below, it's been over a year since the install and the system has transitioned from heating to cooling and back again with no issues. The county inspector that signed off on our work said "This is the first time I've seen a perfect job, I have nothing to complain about". I wanted to wait for a year or so to see how this system performed. Dariush has provided great and timely service on my HVAC. My townhome had an awful heat pump system installed and likely incorrectly. (a neighbor told me the former owner would be out there defrosting it with a hairdryer in the winter). Regardless, it broke once, then developed a leak a few months later. The best option was to replace the entire system to get a manufacturer's warranty and avoid more failures with a subpar system. I hate dealing with problems more than once so that was my best option. Though I like Dariush, I still wanted to make sure I was getting a good price. I priced across three of the other top HVAC companies and Air One Tech came in the best or very close with a better system. It's been an incredibly hot summer and my neighbors are jealous as to how well I'm able to manage the heat and humidity inside the house. FYI leaks are difficult to fix and not guaranteed. Also if you have a leak in one part of the system, it could mean more leaks in the future (in the evaporator or condenser). I would say my only complaint is the thermostat that you're stuck with to better manage your Trane system. With variable speed fans, you cannot use 3rd party devices (Nest, etc.) as they cannot manage all the different fan speed settings. read more

Not that these guys need any more stellar reviews, but I just couldn't help but add this one. Yes, they're that good. So, if you're curious here's my story (the short version)... I have a unit in an apartment building that was built in the 70s, and for the last 3 years I've been struggling with HVAC vendors and building maintenance people who keep charging me for "flushing the coils" when the season changes. And now they're telling me that I have to replace the entire unit for almost $7,000! Given that this price tag was in my humble opinion nothing short of ludicrous, I decided to get a second opinion, and via my research I found Air One Tech. What a major stroke of luck that was! Dariush (God bless him) came out, he checked the unit, and what happened afterwards was just unbelievable. It was like one of those movies where you find out that you've been lied to for years and getting drained of money! He showed me, very logically, that my AC system is, yes, very old, and also, VERY simple. There is "nothing" wrong with it!!! There was nothing to fix! It was simply a matter of course that when the building changes their HVAC water supply from hot to cold or vice versa during season changes, some air needs to be flushed out of the water pipes and everything is hunky dory. They kept telling me "the coil is clogged with water", which makes no sense. Dariush showed me the coil. There's nothing at all wrong with it. Turns out the building management (maybe in cahoots with the one vendor who has a monopoly on replacing these units) were trying to con me into forking out almost $7K to replace a unit that is working just fine. I just had AC tune up by Darren, and cant recommend enough!!!! I originally had some damages to the ceiling and my roof adjuster said it is not from the roof, and even though it wasnt part of Darren's work, he went up to check where the water damage is coming from, took great photos so I can send it to adjuster. He also explained and show me how to maintain AC heater unit thoroughly and he was very honest with his recommendations by showing me pictures, but not upselling anything. I needed to replace an old air conditioner and gas furnace, so it was a BIG and expensive job, and I picked Air One Tech mostly based on the good reviews I found here. I was not disappointed. The professionalism of this place is really impressive, and so rare these days! Dariush came out and took the time to explain all the options, without pushing things I didn't need. I love that they sell Trane stuff because it's got such a good reputation--it pays off when you sell the house on top of being reliable. I ended up adding a heat pump to the gas furnace and a whole-house humidifier b/c I hate the dry air in the winter. The crew came out as scheduled and got it all done in one day. Removed the old equipment, cleaned up after themselves, explained everything. Jamie, who answered the phone, was courteous, efficient, and helpful. She was able to set up an appointment on short notice for someone to come by and take a look. Daniel, the technician, came on the appointed day to perform the diagnostic. He was friendly, knowledgeable, and understanding of our situation. He quickly and expertly diagnosed the problem. He left with all the information and I received a call from Jamie later in the day. They had found the required parts and gave me a quote. I accepted and we made an appointment for Daniel to return two days later to complete the repair. They send you a text on the appointed day when a technician is on the way. There is a picture of the technician along with a link to track their location on a map in real time. No more day-long windows where you are sitting around wondering when someone will show up. Daniel showed up at the beginning of the time window. He expertly completed the repairs and stayed a few minutes to make sure everything was running as expected. They fixed the issue, with our AC, so I will give 5 stars for the work. But I will give 0 stars for pricing. They mark-up the parts by 200 - 400 percent. The part which my system required costs anywhere from $85 - $120 online on Amazon & Ebay and other sites. But I was charged about $600 for the part, which I could have bought for way cheap, had I known that the price difference before hand. Well! live and learn. My suggestion would be to ask the tech, what exact part with the part # they will be ordering and then check online to see how much the pricing of it is online and then ask the tech, what they are charging you for the same part. That way you don't overpay for the parts. Service = Work done for good, the AC works, so that way their service is good. It's just the parts pricing that's questionable, to be so overpriced. read more

Confirmed in the morning with me before they arrived. - $95 to service the HVAC and make sure that everything was working properly. - - The team led my Mike E was knowledgable, quick, and efficient He knew what he was doing when conducting all of his tests - Provided a detailed report immediately after using an app on his phone and receipt of payment. To Note - Was originally told 10% off coupon on website would be able to be used by someone who scheduled my appt but when presented at the end of service to pay, was told could not be used for maintenance. I scheduled the appt on the phone on 3/23/16 at 5:29pm fwiw. Would recommend and will likely use them for my annual HVAC servicing! Update: The owner Dariush reached out to me and apologized regarding the confusion with the 10% coupon. He explained to me that he would offer me a refund of the difference or a rain check in the future. Nobody wants to call a repairman. Besides being pissed off at having to get the [first world] problem that you're having solved, you're almost always predisposed to thinking they're looking for ways to rip you off. I had a little less trepidation when I called Darius at Air One Tech because he came on a friend's recommendation, but STILL. My outdoor a/c unit wouldn't turn on, it was approaching 80 degrees in my house, and my delicate constitution can't handle much more humidity than we've had lately. Darius came the day after I called, a little later than he said he would, but such is life ruled by Beltway traffic. He arrived after normal business hours so I didn't even have to take off work - and when I asked about his apparently long hours, he said he LIKED to work a lot and work late. OK, sir, as you wish! Better you than me. After a few minutes back and forth flipping breakers and opening access panels, the old girl starting spinning like she was two days ago. I would have paid him just about anything but all he asked for was his standard (very reasonable) diagnostic fee. I liked that he charged me this way. I'm not sure how others feel about this. While my problem was minor and fixed in 20 minutes, it was nothing that I would have found myself AND it was something very unexpected/out of the ordinary. I can't help but think someone less experienced and less knowledgeable would have missed what it was. I also can't help but think other places would have charged me a diagnostic fee as well as tacked on a few bucks for actually having to fix something. In any event, I didn't have any problems handing my check over with a smile. Darius himself was well-mannered, pleasant, and nice to chat with. He's a mechanical engineer by education if that makes a difference to anyone. THIS IS THE ONLY COMPANY YOU SHOULD EVER USE FOR A/C PROBLEMS!! Take my word for it. I had MyPlumber come in for a routine six-month check because air flow wasn't as strong as it was the year before. After taking a couple of hours to check everything, the tech declared the whole coil system needed to be replaced at the tune of more than $2K. I called Frosty's who had done the checkup before and a tech came out. Frosty's declared the coils fine and something with the outside unit needed to be replaced. I called Darius with Air One Tech because I needed a third opinion. He and his colleague were extremely thorough, debunked both other company's techs, and found out...oh, the outside breaker HAD BEEN TURNED OFF. I think it was the MyPlumber tech but I can't prove it. Also found out both techs had been analyzing THE WRONG OUTSIDE AC SYSTEM. Unreal. Turned the breaker back on, added a little freon, adjusted vents based on duct location and boom!, instant coolness throughout the house. I will never, ever use another company. read more

We own a rental property in Fairfax in which the furnace's light had gone off. My husband was out of town so I called these guys to come out and see if they can light the furnace. The guy who answered the phone was extremely helpful and told me that it's very easy to do and should take no more than 5 minutes. He told me that if he comes out he will charge me $95 because that's their service fee (which I was willing to pay). He then said that it would be just easier if he walked me through it over the phone because he said it wasn't worth me paying $95. OMG! blown away with the honesty of this company! So refreshing to see that people can be so kind and caring about someone over the phone that do not even know. Nevertheless, he walked me through the process and I lit the furnace myself (such a proud moment). Oh not over yet. He called me the next day just to make sure that it was working and if I had any further questions. If I ever need any kind of service I know exactly who to call. I sent them a message and received a reply withinin minutes. Setting up the appointment was quick and easy. The tech came ahead of schedule and was extremely courteous. Furnace started tripping Flame Rollout Switch. We just bought the house 6 months ago, so had home warranty. Called them, and they put me in touch with Air One Tech. Dariush came out and diagnosed the problem as a cracked heat exchanger. Home Warranty wanted second opinion and sent another company to look at it, same diagnosis. Home Warranty agreed to replace the 23 year old furnace, and chose the second company (who's address is someone's house..), and was going to install low end unit. I preferred to go with Air One Tech as they were more well known and had great reviews. Dariush also seemed more knowledgeable. Decided to replace the old AC unit at the same time, and wanted to go with a Trane system after researching. Called Dariush and he sent me 2 estimates for different units within 2 hours, and explained the systems to me. I chose one, and he came by the same day (Tuesday) to measure and plan for the job. Thursday he and 2 others from Air One Tech arrived and installed the new system. After removing the old system, he showed me inside where there were actually several cracks in the primary heat exchanger. The lines from AC to inside unit were badly kinked in 2 places, and needed replaced. He routed the new lines more efficiently than the old lines were. They were able to handle that unexpected additional work after showing and explaining to me, and getting my approval, at a fair price, and we had heat that day. Upgraded from 90% to 97% efficient and from SEER 10 to 16. System is running great, connections to air ducts are sealed, no leaks like the old system had where it connected. After installation was complete, they checked air flow at registers, explained the dual-stage system, and configured my Nest thermostat to work with the 2 stages of heat. He also made sure I knew I had to register the equipment online with Trane to get the full 10-12 year warranty. They really do earn their 5-star rating. The owner, the nice lady who answers the phone, the technicians, work speed, and prices were all great. I was walked through what was wrong and signs to check for future issues, which was very much appreciated. They fixed a really rough situation (temperatures have been in the low 90s).
