    Whalen & Ives

Looking for a heating/air conditioning firm to replace and or service your unit? Look no further…read more This is the most professional company, in my opinion, that you will find in Bergen County. Their estimator Chris arrived, took his time and explained what needed to be done. The estimate was fair. Office staff is nothing but wonderful who return calls!! Amazing. They actually work with you for installation in accordance with your schedule. Whalen and Ives sent a team of professionals to my home that were simply amazing; each and every technician carried out his task perfectly. Not a minute of time was wasted. They arrived on time, which was shocking in this day and age. And....they cleaned up! Obviously the Owners are smart to keep their crews happy. Bravo! I will refer them business every opportunity I get!

We contacted Whalen and Ives after discovering standing water in our main-level bathroom that had…read morealready begun leaking into our finished basement through the baseboards. We mitigated the initial damage ourselves before their technician arrived on April 12. During the visit, the technician identified standing water in what he claimed was a pipe beneath our driveway and stated there was no blockage. He then inspected additional piping in the garage and basement using a camera and snake. While working in the basement, the technician removed a pipe cap, directly causing sewage and wastewater to discharge into our finished basement. He also attempted to remove a second cap, which cracked and caused additional water intrusion and damage. No reasonable containment or mitigation measures were taken to prevent contamination. Despite these events, we were told the issue had been resolved and that it was safe to resume normal water use, aside from running multiple fixtures simultaneously. The technician also stated that he was under pressure to leave for another job and received repeated calls from his supervisor during the visit. Within approximately 20 minutes of his departure, use of a single shower caused substantial water to pour from the same pipe that had been left unsealed. Representatives from a restoration company witnessed and documented the incident and expressed concern that the underlying issue had not actually been corrected. The following day, after repeated attempts to contact the company and to speak with a supervisor, a second technician arrived and suggested extensive pipe replacement at a cost of up to $50,000. By that point, we had already paid approximately $1,600 for services that not only failed to resolve the issue but had directly contributed to significant damage to our basement. We were also informed that replacing the pipe caps damaged during the initial visit would cost an additional $1,400. We later obtained an independent second opinion. That technician correctly diagnosed the problem, repaired the damaged caps, and confirmed that the extensive pipe replacement recommended by Whalen and Ives was unnecessary. According to that assessment, Whalen and Ives technician had misidentified the main water line rather than the sewage line. Throughout this process, communication from management was poor, documentation was limited, and invoices included charges for work that was not performed. Although a refund was eventually issued for Whalen and Ives initial visit, it did not address the broader damages, contamination concerns, loss of use of our home, or the disruption to our family while caring for young children. Our finished basement, which serves as a primary play area for our children, was left contaminated and unusable as a result of these events. Based on our experience, we cannot recommend Whalen and Ives.

Second, loved the time they took and the way they cleaned up. It was quick and the result was awesome and professional. Third, although had a tiny leaking issue, they came right back next day in the morning and fixed it quickly. Last, I was worried that I would get some feedback regarding to like "it will be hard to do etc, so the estimate price will need to be adjusted. But turned out I worried too much! They went with the estimate they provided in the beginning, worked on the job without a single complain, and provided fast response and help after service. There was nothing I could complain!! They are awesome! It was a A+++ business with them. I'm just so glad that I was able to find a professional plumber that I could trust for my house.

I tried Grossman due to good Yelp reviews & a friend in Mahwah recommended them. I met with Grossman to swap out a toilet & the water controls in a shower (non-emergency service call). Matt came to my house to provide an estimate. We scheduled a time for him to return a few days later (11/2020). They came and they did a good job. There were no economic surprises. They cleaned up their mess and everything works fine. I've attached a picture of his neat workmanship of the shower cartridge (hidden behind the wall). IMO, he did a good job & I will be using Grossman again.
