I was worried after being recommended to AJ Perri from someone I know who has been a customer for years then read some pretty poor reviews of this company. I called inquiring about a central air maintenance and someone called me back about 5 days later to schedule it. This took awhile from my first call but it was not urgent so I setup something with their scheduling team. I took the day off and stayed home between the 8am and 1pm window to have this maintenance done and as 1pm rolled past I realized they were not coming. I called and was informed that they left three voicemails to the wrong number which I was surprised about since they originally called me to go through scheduling. They were able to have someone come out late in the evening but I decided that it was too much of a coincidence that someone incorrectly seemed to change my number in their system and also they have a lot of poor reviews throughout the internet. At this point I cancelled and decided to look elsewhere. read more

I had a leaky pipe behind the wall. They charged $350 to find the leak (the tech was here maybe 30 minutes) and gave me a quote to come back and fix it. I called every day for a week to schedule the repairs and every time they said "we're still waiting on the parts department to get back to us about the materials for the repair"...it was 5 feet of copper pipe and a 90 degree joint, something EVERY technician undoubtedly has in the truck so why the long wait time from the parts department?!?!?!?! Each time they assured me they would get back to me that day with an answer one way or another, each time that was a lie. Finally called a different plumber who ended up doing the repairs for much cheaper anyway. It's now two weeks since I last called them and still no response. I no longer want them to do the repairs anyway but it still shows their lack of response and nonsensical customer service. Oh and also that they're way overpriced. Avoid this company at all costs. My wife and I inherited this plumbing company when we bought our house because they had installed the central air. It took about 4 interactions before we smelled a rat and decided to go in a different direction. These guys do their best to put a veneer of professionalism on everything they do. Their plumbers will immediately cover their shoes and hand you their personal business card when they enter your home. Unfortunately, this seems to be a ploy to lull you into a false sense of security. Whenever they looked at anything, they were biased toward recommending the most comprehensive (read: expensive) service around. Some of their greatest hits (which all occurred in less than 2 months): - Told us our 2-year-old furnace would need to be replaced because the chimney was bad, at a cost of over $10,000. This was not true, and we repaired our chimney. - Quoted us a price of $4,000 for a new hot water heater we replaced through a different plumber for $1,800. - Told us our toilet in the powder room, which was leaking a small amount of water, was broken beyond repair and would need to be replaced at a cost of over $1,000. Another plumber came and replaced a small part for $150. These guys are a nightmare. Do not let them in your home. Their work is wholly geared toward wringing as much money out of you as they possibly can, and their recent settlement with the State of New Jersey for defrauding customers is a great example of this. I'll leave you with this quote from our new plumber. He was incredulous that anyone suggested replacing the toilet in our powder room. after 3 visits, we won't be calling AJ PERRI again. every time someone came in, there was a different problem. the last time was truly shocking. we were quoted $11-$13k for a brand new build, that we needed a new furnace, $600 for a new thermostat and another $500 to fix a unit outside. he "did me a favor" by not charging me the travel fee because he felt so bad for me. this is of course after the first guy did next to nothing, and froze our pipes, the second guy came in and had to add freon and "trip our system" and made another $700 recommendation. after having another company come in, and charge me $110 for just a thermostat to be replaced, i now know i was completely taken advantage of. do yourself a favor and call kool vent, save yourself a lot of stress and disappointment, not to mention money. read more

I waited two months to write this review until I could be objective. I have read the reviews of the upselling horror stories. I have used these guys only to tune-up my furnace every year. This year was no different, except that I had two leaky radiator valves that needed servicing. The tech told me one would probably be about $800 to replace and that the pipe leading from the other to the furnace needed to be completely replaced. After he left, a friend gave me the name of a plumber that came highly recommended. This guy replaced one valve, tightened a part on the other radiator, and then replaced a leaky bathtub faucet, all for $425 out the door. Then promptly told me that the tech did a shitty job of servicing my furnace. Now that I have seen this crappy pattern up close and personal, they will not get another penny from me. I would give this place zero stars if it was an option. I had a technician from this company come out to replace a water heater for $4000 at my condo which I paid. He then went to my neighbor to look at some water damage from a leak that he had and told him to try to blame it on my water heater leak so that I could pay for it because I'm a healthcare professional and he said 'she can afford it'. When I called the company to complain, the manager didn't take responsibility. Down played the seriousness of the breach of confidentiality. AC stopped working on a 96+ degree blazing hot day. They said they would come between 12-4. I called several times and they said someone was "on the way". Nobody ever even showed up after multiple calls past 5pm. They said they have no one available to come (even though they said someone was on the way) and that the rain/weather was so bad (it is NOT raining today anywhere in the area, they lied). Absolutely unreliable and complete liars. Claim to come the following day between 12-6, such a huge gap of time, will they even show up? GARBAGE company. Upstairs unit was struggling to keep house cool. Tech came and was testing downstairs unit, telling me mother board was bad and needed a new system for upstairs. He was on the wrong unit. I changed thermostat and it works fine. Tech said 3 lbs low on gas but can't fill it because mother board was bad. Total up sale, tried to tell me repairs would only last 6 to 12 months better to buy a new unit. I would not recommend AJ Perri to anyone I know. I had them replaced the whole AC unit past summer and just replaced furnace with them. I was initially referred to them through Home Depot. So, going into it I knew I would be paying little more but expected more reliable services. But I realized that they are very expensive contractor to work with. On the furnace replacement project, I was told that they offer "performance guaranty", which promised that no room in the house will be above or below the set temperature by 3 degrees. Pretty reassuring promise, I thought. But things got tricky since one of the room didn't have a radiator and I wanted to replaced two other radiators in other rooms. So, I suggested to the sales person that I would buy three radiators from them but requested that they will do the installation for me. And I asked him to jot down installation of those radiators on the proposal. He said they can definitely take care of that for me but refused to add that line in there since he doesn't have pricing on the radiators with him at that time. And he reassured me saying it will be on the other paperwork so I don't need to worry. To this day, I don't know what that paperwork is. I didn't get that pricing on those radiators until after they replaced the furnace. It would've been nice for me if they replaced the radiators on the same day. But only after the furnace replacement is done, I got the quote for replacing single radiator of $1,200. Through my research, I know a radiator doesn't cost more than a few hundred bucks. I saw a similar looking radiator priced at $300 online. So, their installation charge for a single radiator is effectively $900. No wonder why the whole furnace replacement project was priced so high! I asked them if they can give me cost breakdown of that $1,200 into parts and labor. They refused. I am still waiting to see how they are going the live up to the "performance guaranty". Now, I'm thinking about it, I feel like it was a false promise. How can you guaranty heating performance without addressing radiator issue? So, please remember that their going rate for service is $900 for the amount of work that goes into replacing single radiator. And they might not tell you all the necessary cost to meet their "performance guaranty" up front. If you are ok with that, AJ Perri is a perfect provider for you. No one showed by 12pm so I called the office and asked when I could expect the technician. Gent came on time, was nice enough and neat although acted like it was going to be a major repair. When I initially called office told them what issue was and of course they would not even give a very rough estimate. They say they don't have prices yet they come in with a colorful expensive catalog of prices that they could have easily quoted price on phone. This was not an emergency but I took off from work so it could be done. He acted like it was a major job. It was the seal on back of toilette tank which I communicated when I called the repair in. The part costs 12 bucks at home depot. The repair took him all of 30 min. He charged 479 dollars.....thats right $479 for a 12 dollar part and 30 min labor. I asked for an itemized bill for parts and labor and he said he could not do that but would give me 15 percent discount. Oh and they don't take the 50 bucks off the bill that they tell you they won't charge. What a joke. Charging over 400 dollars for 30 min labor. It took him longer to print the paperwork than it took to do repair. It is a racket - find someone else. Charges are exorbitant and shady. He Put on bill to see if I wanted new toilette for 950....seriously for a seal that needed replacement when toilette was in good shape. I should have researched more as I found there are numerous complaints from customers with NJ State Plumbers and they have been fined from what I read online. I am calling State tomorrow to let them know what happened. That's why they don't give hourly rates becasue of the excessive fee they charge. Never again. I will try home depot next time. Not happy with the service lately. A/C stopped working. Tech came out and said I need a blower motor and board. Part has to be ordered. Called for status and after 3 times was told parts would be 3 to 5 business days. I will be without A/C for a week, maybe longer. You would think someone this large would carry these parts in stock. AJ Perri installed a humidifier for me last year and it hasn't worked right since. More than five service calls each technician with a different response. They finally replaced the unit and now it makes loud screeching noises they want to do nothing about. Meanwhile customer service continues to tell me that they'll call me back with the resolution after speaking to quality control and then they do not call me. I have to call them again, and again. Recently I was told that if it was in a basement or attic I wouldn't hear it. I would never recommend using them. Unfortunately, there is no consistency with the technicians and customer service so there is no true understanding of your needs and personalized service. Needed a replacement of a kitchen faucet. Took no more than one hour and 15 minutes. this time included interruptive phone calls from the company and whoever else. Charged me $637. I supplied my own faucet. He also tried to tell me that getting my faucet from Home Depot was worse than getting it from a faucet company or them. I googled that issue and it said there was no differences in any faucet from either place. Bad enough $129 Fee to just for home visit but really $637 for one hour and 15 minutes is ridiculous. I am elderly now and used to do my own repairs. But I was shocked! Plus that was 15% off as a repeat customer. I googled it would probably cost three to $400 with a plumber. Two appointments over 5 months. They don't call to confirm anything the night before so make sure you call and confirm. The first appointment was to install a very expensive new hot water heater, they never showed and they never called. I finally had to call them and then they informed me the technicians van was broken down. A second appointment five months later was to adjust the standard hot water temperature, I was never asked if it was OK. They did call to let me know they would be late and then they called to let me know they weren't going to make it. My 80 year old mother has had plumbing issues and was told the pipes needed to be flushed because something is stuck in the waste pipe. She had AJ Perri come out they said She would have to pay them $1,200 and they wouldn't guarantee it would work. She was hesitant but the issue was getting worse. She called back to schedule it and they came on Friday to do the "diagnosis" he did nothing (he had no equipment) charged her almost $400 and said this would be credited towards her bill on Monday. They never called to confirm a time on Monday, she called first thing in the morning and they said "the truck that does that isn't on The road today" she demanded a supervisor. When the supervisor called back they said "flushing the pipes isn't going to work for that problem " myself and my husband took the day off and drove down from PA to be there because she has cancer and needed to go to the Doctor at the same time. Please do not use AJ Perri at all. They conned my dad who is in his eighties to replace drainage piping going out to the street. They originally cleared a clogged pipe which took 5 minutes and a $95 charge. Somehow it then turned out to be if you do not replace the piping going out to the street you will have bigger problems in the future! My dad was conned into paying $9900 to replace all the underground piping. AJ Perri also serviced his furnace and told my dad he needed to change a small part on his furnace which was the blower capacitor. The technician told my dad the part would cost $285 and if he did not change it there was a chance the furnace would blow out cold air in the winter. That was just for the part and not for the 5 minutes of labor involved. Thank goodness my dad refused to have the part replaced even after the technician kept coaxing. I looked up the price of the blower capacitor on the internet and the price is $6.95. The technician tried to con my dad again. AJ Perri claims they are premium priced. The drainage pipe job should have cost around $4000 AJ Perri's price was $9900. Blower capacitor price is $6.95 AJ Perri's price is $285. By the way the blower capacitor is held in by 2 screws and would take about 5 minutes to change. If I could have given zero stars I would have. Please use the internet to find a reputable service and stay away from AJ Perri. I am looking forward to their response to this review. read more

Later on, I come to find out as I received other quotes from multiple companies that A.J. Perri was significantly higher priced than everyone else. I was flabbergasted as I felt that I was being taken advantage of. I called several times to speak to a Manager about this and was never called back. A woman by the name of Ivy answered the phone and would just continue to talk and not let me get a word in and continued to say "we would not be in business over 50 years if we were screwing people" which I found to be extremely rude. Stay away from this company as the customer service is horrendous and they are very unprofessional. Ghosted we were contacted this morning at 10 AM to confirm. So we called them replace and install a kitchen faucet that we had purchased on our own. The minimum service call seemed reasonable. The technician was professional, friendly, and on time. Once he checked out the job, he went to his truck to get pricing from the company. He returned with a quote of $681, which we politely declined (instead of shouting "you've got to be kidding"). My wife and I just decided to figure it out ourselves. Not complicated, but being inexperienced, it took us a little under 2 hrs. A J Perri installed new furnace in my home but later when came home discovered water coming from the furnace. I had to call for a technician to come out that night and fix the issue. I was not home at the time but you would think they would check to make sure everything was ok. But, it was fixed. My complaint for the most part is their business office. Gave salesman a check for down payment but for some reason they deposited it electronically and again presented it to the bank which resulted in my account being overdrawn. That was very disappointing to get an alert regarding my account be overdrawn from my bank. This is why I am only giving them three stars. read more

A sales rep comes out and tells me it will be 8k to replace the entire unit. I had someone local come out to get a second opinion and he has it fixed in about 20 minutes. Had to lend him my tools just so he could finish the job. Also used old dirty PVC pipe that is an extreme eyesore to look at. They way overcharged me for a very shoddy looking job. Very disappointed for making the decision to hire them. Regret it very much! Called the company to complain didnt mean anything they just blew it under the rug. They are a joke and should not be allowed to ever touch plumbing ever!! What ever happened to having pride in your work. Doesn't exist with this company. Called for an appointment because I had no heat. They gave me a window from 3-5 pm. No one showed. I called 3 times to find out where they were. I was told all 3 times they would reach out to tech to call me. At 7 pm apparently a manager called and stated they could not reach the tech, and when I said I have no heat, he said "Oh its not that cold" really poor customer service. I then receive a call the next day asking if I still need someone to come out. SERIOUSLY! I explained all the above and the woman apologized and stated she would get to the bottom of it , as this is not how they conduct business. Our furnace was having an ignition circuit issue (9 flashes). We are familiar with the problem having four of these units in our home. Called A.J. Perri and was told $89 for the visit plus parts. If anything else was needed we would be given a price quote. Tech came with part in hand, opened up unit, replaced ignition circuit ($35 part). System up and running. He hands us a bill for $450. Nope. He called office and said that is the price. We asked him to remove the part, which he did, and won't be paying anything. I get it, everyone is entitled to get paid for their work. He was a nice guy who made the repair. If we were told up front that it was more than $200 we would have passed. First and last experience with A.J. Perri. read more

I had called and asked for a estimate or a range in pricing for a standard hot water heater. I was told that the technician will come and there will be a charge of $123 (tax incl) for the visit which will be applied to the work. I expected the price to be slightly higher considering the inflation but the quote was ridiculous (approximately $2600 - $3600 plus after $250 deduction with a coupon for a 40 gallon). So just because no one told me to expect the quote to be twice what other places are charging, I lost $123 for nothing. If I would have known that that was the average, i wouldn't have wasted my time. What a rip off. read more

This was my experience with AJPerry: I called on Saturday night because an air conditioner in Harvey Cedars had stopped working. They made an appointment for between 8 and 1 on Sunday. They confirmed the appointment on Sunday morning. They left me this voice-mail. " Hi shana this is Caitlin from a g perry. I'm calling about the A c appointment you have scheduled for today. Between eight and one. Our technician is available. I just need to confirm. Someone is home. Give us a call back at 7326761609 Thank you." I called back to give them the phone no of someone who would let them in. Guess what they said? They said "Harvey Cedars is not in our service area." I pointed out they'd made the appointment the night before and confirmed in the morning. They said "Harvey Cedars is not in our service area." I said I'd seen many AJPerry service trucks in Harvey Cedars. They said "Harvey Cedars is not in our service area." Responsible? Reliable? Not. Also on Saturday night Harvey Cedars was in their service area (they made and confirmed the appointment) Suddenly it wasn't possible to show up on Sunday morning. Actually "Harvey Cedars is not in our service area" prompted me to write this review. read more
