I have used AJ Perri many times for multiple properties. They are very reliable and do a very nice job. The biggest issue I encounter every time is the pricing. It's unfortunate that every time I have used them it's for an emergency and they charge for that. This last time for an hour of work was close to 750. For that, I would use caution using them. If I could give no stars I would. I completely understand the situation and state that this country is in. But if you get paid to do a job you only have that one job to do. In this case it's figure out what's wrong with the plumbing. It started last week 9/6. I had AJ Perri come out to snake it for this $100 thing they have going on. The guy says he can't come until after six finally shows up closer to seven in the evening. He comes he looks tired I tell him my problem he sneaks the outside hole which is usually directional which only leads to the street not the house then he says there's no clog there so then he says you're gonna have to remove the toilet it will cost about $500 and that's not putting the toilet back on. I had my friend come over help me remove the toilet AJ comes back to snake the inside toilet. He's snaking And finally he reaches is a rough part But he can't get a sneak through instead of continuing to try he gives up and says I'm gonna send a camera guy out here to find out what's going on. He literally sneak for about a total of 10 minutes. It takes 4 days to call me (I had went away on vaca) finally I get back on 9/13 call AJ Perri immediately have them send a Camera guy that same day, yesterday, the guy doesn't show up till also 7 o'clock. He finally gets his camera and then he reaches the part where the clog is he didn't tell me how many feet the line went in he couldn't find where the camera was on the outside of the house and he refused to go underneath to tell me exactly where it was. I completely get that everybody's tired at six 7 o'clock especially if you're working from 8-9 am. But if you have one job to do make sure you do that job to the fullest and if not say you can't do it and make sure you clock out is all I ask AJ Perry dropped the ball on me I still don't have a working toilet in my house and now I got a find someone else to come out here. They showed up 4 hours late- said 1 and came at 5:30. Once they arrived they called and said they cant find parking. We pointed out areas the truck would fit but instead they drove away without explanation. We called to tell the company and they were more concerned about who said they would come at 1 than the fact that the repairman just drove away without making any attempt to do their job. Rude. I had AJ Perri come in recently to inspect my ac unit. The technician checked the inside evaporator and said no issues. Then he checked the outside unit and told me freon is liw, i have a leak, and coil needs cleaning. Total charge will be $1500. Also he said it is better to get the ac and furnace replaced which had a bad motor. He wasn't able to fix anything that day. Next day I called another technician to get a second opinion. This guy said nothing is wrong with my ac or furnace. Just the drain pipe was clogged that led to the issue I was having. They charged me $105 for nothing. Just lied all the way. Also tried to upsell things I don't even need. Stay away from these cheats! They need to be slapped with another 100k fine. read more

My AC unit was not cooling my home. A technician form AJ Perri came and checked my unit. He said all the major components were okay but my run capacitor was weak in the unit outside and it needed to be replaced soon. I was quoted $900 to replace the capacitor on the unit! He then said he could put a booster capacitor on the unit for $374 and top off 1.lb of refrigerant. The capacitor is a $25 part that can be changed in about ten minutes. I agreed to the booster capacitor only due to the fact I had a party the next day and needed my AC to work. But $900 for a capacitor change is an absolute rip-off and I will no longer call AJ Perri for anything. read more

First let me say I have been a huge fan of AJ Jersey for many years, they have replaced my water heater, A/C heating system, and maintained my waste lines for many years. They have also replaced my main water value and completed many a water pipe issues in my home. Yes, they are one of the most expensive plumbers. However, up until this last job they have been one of the most professional plumbers we dealt with. Now let me relate the last service performed. I called to have both a water line and gas service line moved. There appointment was between 9 - 11 AM. After two calls to find out where the plumber was, he showed up at 11:40 AM (LATE). He was supposed to actually do work. The office told him it was for an estimate. Again, several calls to the office and he was asked to do the work. Well he was not ready to do the work, then he had to go to Lowes to buy supplies. Finally, at 12:30 he started and 6 hours later he and a helper completed the job. Now I am above average DIY'er however, due to poor health I cannot do all of the things I used too. What is interesting is I had to explain to this gut how to cut into the pipes to plumb the cold and Hot water lines. Explain how to run the gas lines. And I literally had to help him and his helper more than once plus loan him some tools. (mainly step stools and work lights). Now the big issue, the work for the dryer exhaust fell off the wall the next morning. I had to call them back in to take care of this. The thing is they wanted a 6 hour window to show up. Had to argue with them demanded to speak with a supervisor and was denied repeatedly to speak to the area Supervisor was told I was threatening her, and she hung up. Truth be told I was threatening to contact the Better Business Bureau and to sue them for poor workmanship etc... Finally, this week I was cleared by my doctor, and I re-ran the gas line and re-repaired the dryer exhaust myself. I will never use AJ Perri again and strongly recommend no one else use them. read more

Our AC failed, so we called AJ Perri. They came the next morning and fixed the unit by switching out the capacitor. The problem is that they charged $509 for a $50 piece of equipment, and then added $129 for diagnostic, plus tax etc. So, $680 to install $50 piece, took maybe 45 minutes. And damn, I was about to buy a maintenance program and new units, whole thing. Oh well... read more

I was disappointed with the service I received on March 31, 2019. The technician could not find the source of the mold smell and could only suggest that I keep the AC running for a few days to see if it eventually goes away. I am more upset with being duped into paying for BioClean when I did not want it. I am confident that the company encourages the technician to sell this product and likely teaches how to sneak it in the sale. I never asked about it, never wanted it, and yet the tech was adamant that he show me how the product worked and that I keep it on hand. I was only trying to appease him and get him out so that I could go back to my family. I later realized that the invoice included a charge for $55 for the product. I am disappointed with AJ Perri. I wanted a solution to my problem and instead I was duped into a purchase and left no better off. read more

I was contacted within 10mins from this business after steeping out of Home Depot. They schedule my appt the same day and was at my house within the hour. The guy came and was the least friendly salesperson I ever dealt with. The estimate was hand written on back of some recycled piece of paper the guy had in his car. Was quoted with a ridiculously astronomical price; 5k more than PSEG. Not worth the time. read more

Had entire heating and cooling replaced by AJ PERRI about nine years ago and recently when their technician was servicing the system, he knocked the thermostat off the wall and left. My mother called to complain. They returned and agreed to remove and replace at no charge. Didn't have the same thermostat, so added a complicated computerized panel that is too sophisticated for my mother. She asked to just have a simpler one installed. They returned and, while they said it was free on the phone, wanted over $170/hr. for over two hours to-- get this --re-wire? Tried to reason with the manger on the phone. Nope. Told to depart. Ten year warranty is up soon! read more

Woke up Sunday morning to no heat, checked everything out but to no avail. Call A J Perri and they said they could be there between 1-3 that day...Great!! They arrived at 3:15, not bad.. The tech said I needed a new thermostat and one other small part... good so far.. the quote... $405 for a thermostat ( average retail on Amazon was $52.00) and $385 (average retail on Amazon Between $20-$60) . When I questioned the they offered 10% off and a $25 gift card and the the price was based on a truck and driver. I refused repair and had it done by a local repair shop for $375 total price... all I can say is beware !!!! read more

The only problem I had was the U clean out trap under the kitchen sink was leaking. Called the company from a flier I received in the mail. I am a licensed electrician in business for 35yrs. So I know what things should cost. The guy they sent spent ten minutes under the sink and replaced a $5. pvc u joint. He charged me $258. and spent 45 minutes sitting in his truck, in my driveway, doing god knows what. Never again. I always tried to be fair with my customers and depended on repeat business. I needed my main sewer lines me cleared of a clogg. Everything was fine until tech arrived. The service professional was argumentative and disrespectful on the phone. Tech told me pipe was old which I knew and pipe may be damaged if work was performed. I removed cleanout with standard pipe wrench. Minimal water came out of pipe. I rented snake from HD and was able to snake line whole sewer line in 20-30 min. Easy job in my opinion. I worked for a plumber when I was in college. In my opinion AJ Perri needs better trained Techs. Trained better in customer service and the particular trade the tech performs their duties. I used AJ Perri in the past and consider myself a good customer. I will be a good customer to someone else in the future. read more

James the plumber showed up, not only helpful and knowledgeable, but very personable. He explained all my options and installed my new water heater the same day. I am very happy with the results. Had a contract with AJ Perri to do a furnace check once a year before turn-up. This year the tech came, turned the furnace on (which is, admittedly, old) and he immediately shut it off, claimed that it was leaking carbon monoxide, and red-tagged it (which, to anyone who doesn't know, means that it's unsafe and cannot be used). He also gave us a quote for $10+K to replace (a bargain...down from his original $14K) it with a standard (read...not particularly energy efficient) model. Called another company in Metuchen, for which I plan to write an amazing review, and asked them to look at the furnace. The first thing they said was that the AJ Perri tech jumped the gun on the carbon monoxide reading...it's an older furnace just turned on for the first time. You need to give it some time, which I would have thought an experienced HVAC vendor would know. They worked with Elizabethtown Gas to read the carbon monoxide, clean the heat exchanger and burners, continue reading the carbon monoxide and finally to certify the unit in good working order and remove the red tag. They did all of this for $135 and told us the furnace still has at least two more seasons. The point of this review is that AJ Perri should be ashamed of themselves. read more

We are now over a month with trying to get the NEW unit they installed last year to function properly for my mother. Instead of heating it continues to blow cold air. A month and multiple visits later they still are incapable of fixing the problem. When I called to have the situation addressed was informed of an additional fee of $90 because I had missed the 30day window. I didn't know how shady AJ Perri's business practices were when we initially hired them, and I wish I had educated myself better before we had so much work done by this company. We paid $10,000 for a new oil furnace for our 1500 sq ft home, when the national average is $3000-5000 for a 2000-2500 sq ft home. They scared us into a ton of plumbing work we likely didn't need, and refused to honor a price quote for a new AC unit unless we committed to their installation service on the spot. Most recently, we had our annual "routine maintenance" done on our furnace, during which their service tech caused such extensive damage to our system that it still hasn't been repaired after 4 service appointments over the past 3 weeks. Just terrible. Most of it has been said already but they left me feeling completely duped and sad that they are such heartless scammers. Called for a routine AC unit "tune up" package which was advertised via mailer to us as $50/unit. They called at the end of the scheduled window to say that the tech was running late. I was already home so I asked how much later (just wanting it to get done that day) and the operator made it seem like she did not want me to say it was ok to come later (that tone made me suspicious right off the bat). I agreed to reschedule, and she acted like she was doing me a favor by giving me a smaller window of time (3 hours instead of 5) for the next appointment. The message they left on the day of the appointment to confirm the appointment was garbled and they asked me to call back and confirm when I already did so via text. When the tech arrived, he sat in his truck outside the house for a good 10 minutes before ringing the doorbell. The experience so far was continually off-putting. Anyway, one expects these visits will result in tons of recommendations but not that they would go ahead and do "work" without getting approval first. Granted it was a (supposedly) disconnected duct in a crawl space in the attic that he took a picture of and explained was critical and said he was going to fix it. He had to get into a dusty crawl space and groaned most of the time, used zip ties to secure it and pretended he didn't hear me when I called in to ask if it was going to be extra. He then proceeded to spend the whole rest of the time pointing out how the system was set up and all the various flaws, supposedly talking through all the readings (which made no sense) like he was doing me a favor (I'm sure to counteract the underlying swindling). He did a bunch of stuff connecting and reconnecting wires and checking gauges but I saw nothing that I would consider a "tune up." When it came time to settle the bill he said it would be $100 for the two units tune up and $179 for the zip-tie work--but he would knock the extra down to $144. When I said I wish he would have said that before doing the work he shot back, "Well what were you gonna say, don't fix it? I took a picture for you and if you had said leave it alone I wouldn't have done it. And you did see that I had to crawl into that dirty space" That just put me in a terrible mood, like I was at fault and yet being swindled; I couldn't even sit through the rest of his pitch (like how would I sign up for a service contract after feeling like I was duped?) He kept going on about how they were a huge company that services all of NJ blah blah. I guess from these reviews what he meant by service was scams. I wish I had looked up these reviews before making the appointment, but sadly at least I don't feel alone. I even found an article about how they were fined $100K for plumbing fraud in 2019. First of all, at the time my appt was made several weeks ago in mid-May, aj perri said no appt available for a couple of weeks until now. The scheduler told me the date but no time given. The day before the appt I had to call to find out the time, which was told by customer rep Matt to be 12 noon. Come the day of the appt and 12 noon come and gone, nothing, no call no text. Had to call them to find out it's between 12-6, which Matt failed to disclose. Four hours later, the technician tom showed up. He was aggressive, rude and belligerent. He said if he kept diagnosing, it's going to be a different rate. He failed to show what that rate was and kept going. Afterwards, he went to grab a binder and put on the invoice $387.5 for HALF AN HOUR OF LABOR. You read it right, ALMOST EIGHT HUNDRED DOLLARS PER HOUR. When asked to speak to the company aj perri directly, he started yelling and shouting so loudly that the neighbors can clearly hear the commotion. It was totally unprofessional and shocking. No idea as to why it was so offensive to him to speak to the company. He kept saying " you are going to get me fired" Why you would worry about that if you did not do anything shady????? How in the world this company even had 4 star review is beyond me. The experience was disastrous, humiliating and traumatizing with his cursing and shouting. If this review platform allows negative star for the review, that's what it deserved. He was asked if he had a shoe cover, if not, one can be provided for him. He put it on once, took it off. THIS COMPANY NEEDS TO GE SHUT DOWN! On Thursday, 11/19/20. I called AJ Perry to come to my home. A Jon came out to the house. He assessed my boiler and said "your pressuretrol is not working properly and your tubes are clogged" I asked what was the solution. He answered by saying, "once he changed the pressuretrol and drained the boiler we should have heat." He changed the pressuretrol, drained the boiler, set my thermostat to 70 degrees. As he finished setting the thermostat and before leaving he advised that in 3hours I should have heat. The next day, Friday, 11/20/20, at around 6pm, I was FaceTimed by my son who was in the house and said it was raining in my home! Literal rain! The roof was caving in on my dining room table with buckets of water was running onto my floor and into my basement. I immediately called AJ Perry. Who then sent out Anthony. He arrived about 10:50-11pm. He said that a lever was left on by the previous technician and he needed to drain the basement with the water. It was so much water that he needed to use a hose to do it. Once that was done. I asked him. What is AJ Perry going to do about this water damage. He called his supervisor and he advised that in cases like this, they would send out a cleaning team to access and clean the water damage from the rugs and such but the bill will not be covered by AJPerry. So I still have no heat. I have water damage, possible electrical damage, and I have to find money to pay for YOUR cleaning company to fix the water damage that you caused?!?! On top of the money I paid to fix my heat in the first place?!?? Still no heat on Friday 11/20/20,still no heat Saturday 11/21/20, On Sunday, another person comes out to my home. He does something to the boiler. He explains that he will get the heat on but I have to call the main office about the water damage. I called AJ Perry Monday morning and left a message, and told I would get a call back. NEVER DID!. After a week of calling and the operator "sending and email" for someone to contact me. I get a call from an Antoine. Instead of Antoine acknowledging that AJPerry will take ANY responsibility for this demise. He spends almost and hour trying to convince me that a part on my boiler was not working so that is why I had the flood. On a new boiler purchased 2 years earlier?!? He ended off saying he would have someone from Quality Control call me; either a Adriana or another person. THAT NEVER HAPPEN! I have been calling the whole month of December and no one ever got back to me or even left a message. I even provided my email. Not one. A J Perry is not a reputable company. They do not take responsibility-accountability for their work or lack there of. I spent a whole weekend with no heat in the dead of winter with A j Perry reps reassuring me each time they came that I would have heat. Then cause damage to my home. And the most disgusting part is they took no responsibility or even tried to keep me as a customer by doing something about the damage they caused. They waited me out for a month. This post is a lengthy one because I have NEVER received such poor service from a company in my life or lack there of!! We contacted this company as soon as our heater gave out on us at 5am. We purchased our home this past March and our furnace is only 2 years old. Customer service said a technician will be at our house within 4 to 5 hours. I said to myself "okay great, no heat and my babies are going to get cold." I have twin newborns and a 2 year old. I decided to pack up all the kids and stay at my moms until the issue was resolved. Little did I know I would be staying with family for an entire week. The first technician came and wrote down the serial number of the part that was needed and left. We paid $100 for him to look at the front of the furnace and nothing more. The technician did not give me any information about what was going on and how much it would be, they just charged us $100. The next day no answers at all... I called several times and finally got a hold of customer service. I was fuming!! They had no answers for me they didn't know what was wrong and finally the lady said that the technician did not fill the form correctly and he has to come back to look at the furnace again. This company specializes in heating and cooling how do you not "fill out a form correctly" Day 3 A new technician comes to the house with the smallest heaters you could ever find.. thinking that the heaters would heat up my room I decided to bring the kids back. Unfortunately that was not the case, we stayed until the technician finished looking at the furnace for him to (again) write down some more new numbers and say (again) he has to order parts. I asked him what's the turnaround time and he says "well Sundays you won't hear from us, someone will contact you on Monday." The house was too cold so we went back to my moms house. Monday comes.. technician #3 adds the parts and says it's missing a piece. At this point I have extended my stay at my moms house and wanted to go home. This is already the 3rd technician that enters my home in a pandemic where I have my babies being exposed which I have been avoiding since we moved. Monday is officially over and the house is still not fixed. Customer service said someone will be coming Tuesday morning so I decided to stay at home instead of driving to my mothers house which is an hour away. The technician arrives with the parts to finish fixing the furnace and at this point I was so frustrated with the company that they should've have been more compassionate about our situation, instead, the technician had the audacity to say you're not a member with us and it is what it is. I paid for a service and EVERY customer should be treated the same way. Almost $400 for shitty service. I would never hire them ever again. read more

Be aware, if you are seeking an estimate - you won't get one from AJ Perri. You'll get, instead, a high-pressure sales pitch lasting 3 hours. This is what I got when I requested an estimate to replace an aging central A/C. To add insult to injury, they never even gave me a real estimate! Read the filtered reviews - so many people had the same experience I had, or worse, and almost all of the filtered reviews give only 1-star. Be aware also that the biggest "coupon" they offer is one they never mention on their website. It is a "First Inspection Discount," meaning that if you agree to buy during their first visit to your home, they'll discount you 10% - this was $2,000 off the $20K price they quoted me for replacing both the furnace and the A/C unit. They also offered me another 5% off promotion - which also was mysteriously available only for that day - for another $1,000 incentive to sign immediately. Dangling such large amounts of money is a very high pressure tactic, so you should know about it before calling them. In fact, I have never experienced such high pressure sales tactics outside of a car dealership or timeshare solicitation. I suggest getting (and wish I had had) other company's estimates FIRST, so you have something to compare AJ Perri's quote to. Even then, our salesman had other companies estimates' that he poked holes in, showing me they are obviously trained to poke holes in other estimates, so be ready and skeptical when they do. The hard-core sales routine is clearly something that was not due to our particular salesman's style or error, it's something they are trained to do with every customer. This is evident because the salesman* was set up with all kinds of binders and promotional materials to do a very methodical, highly detailed, sales pitch. The one thing he did not have in his elaborate kit? The ONE thing I called him for - an estimate form, or a proposal form, or even a piece of paper to provide me an estimate. He wrote up our "quote" (which had no details about the systems being offered) on the back of the First Inspection Discount form, which he then takes back to the office with him. He said he could write something up if I needed him to, but asked for a piece of paper to do it. I declined, and just took a smartphone scan of his "quote". I wish I had known in advance that they don't give real estimates; I would NEVER have made the appointment. It ended up being just a waste of my time, for 3 hours. When I initially set up the appointment, they told me it lasted about 90 minutes, which surprised me but I assumed it meant they were thorough. The "work", though, only took 15-20 minutes. Now, I see this timing is really about making sure they have enough time to do their full sales pitch. They also wanted suggested 7 PM for the appointment, saying they find this works best for customers, but now, having endured it, I suspect the real point is to get you at the end of your day, tired, to just relent to the sales pitch. Had I let them start at 7 PM as they wanted, they would have been at my house til 10 PM, pressuring me for the sale. Also, they want both spouses there, apparently because no one is going to sign off on such a high-cost sale without their spouse. Who knows, these guys may actually provide a decent product and service, but I will never know because I just don't do business with people who pressure me this way and who present funny numbers that magically move in large amounts, but only if I buy today. One word about AJ PERRI: SHADY! We had an annual maintenance agreement with AJ Perri. It seemed strange that our furnace which is about 10 years old would only have problems a few days after their service visits. They call you repeatedly until you arrange your appointment, in case you forget. The reason is simple. They are rip-off artists who will CHEAT YOU. This year after their 'visit', our furnace would not keep the house at the right temp. It kept shutting on and off but didn't stay on long enough to keep the house at temp. So we called them and this time we mentioned to them that every time you visit, afterwards WE HAVE A PROBLEM! They denied it of course and sent someone. The diagnosis was that we needed a new 'board' for $900 dollars! This on a furnace that is 10 years old. The last furnace worked for 50 years without so many problems and that's because AJ Perri never touched it. Needless to say we balked and got a second company in. The repair person said all you need to pay for is the service visit charge for $90 because the solution was simply to sand the flame sensor so that the furnace would stay on!! This is the kind of thing AJ Perri was supposed to do during their maintenance visit right? I'm filing a complaint with the BBB for this company because they are obviously LOOKING ONLY TO RIP OFF CUSTOMERS AND DONT CARE ABOUT KEEPING CUSTOMERS SAFE AND WARM! read more

Signed a 2 year maintenance agreement with them for furnace and A/C. Nice employees, and I understand the pressure on the bottom line. But... A/C maintenance in NNJ scheduled for first week in April--more my fault for allowing it to be scheduled then. Maintenance guy--great, nice guy. I expect people to level with me and then show me why I need something. I like most I believe are ignorant of the inner workings of an A/C system. So the tech nicely shows me two (2) parts (capacitor and contactor) that are showing signs to him that they need to be replaced at ~ $ 330 each. Plus the filter inside had dirt around about a quarter of it and said I should have the coil inside the condenser cleaned with chemicals for another $250. OK--why would I want to risk a warm house in the middle of summer? But somethings wasn't sitting right, so I looked up the parts and found them to be about $25/$35 each. But there's labor and mark-up--so I get it. But I still am not feeling good about it. So I call two (2) other companies as a second/third opinion. They both show me, with their instruments, that both of the AJP-recommended parts are emitting data (they both showed me the instruments and #'s) that are well within the guidelines of a well-functioning part, and that I probably have 3-5 years or more left on them. I asked one of them about the dirt, and he looked at me like a shmuck, somewhat laughing at me, grabbed the garden hose and sprayed off the dirt (from inside out, pushing the dirt away from the center). They also added 1.5 pounds of Freon--AJP said I was fine on Freon but was allowed 1 lb per year--why wouldn't they just add it? People who level with me have me as a customer for life. I don't fault the AJP tech--he was doing what he was trained to do. I'll let AJP come back and service the furnace in the fall (maybe I'll wait until November) but won't give them my business again. AJP has been around for a while and must certainly have a loyal following. I wish them luck but no longer a vendor for me. read more

This is the type of company that will get caught up in an undercover investigative report or a sting by the Division of Consumer Affairs. We had the annual maintenance contract with them for a year and just this weekend they came to service our unit. The technician stated we needed a new capacitator for the unit because he ran a test and it was weak. The cost was approximately $375, but we would save 10 percent if we renewed the maintenance agreement. He said it would only take 10 minutes to replace. I told him to go ahead and change it. The technician also said our compressor would need replacing. Our system is only 11 years old and we have it serviced each year. Our motor broke a couple years ago and was replaced by a different company. The technician explained a consultant from his company would come out and take measurements and explain what would work best. I made an appointment on a Friday at 7:00 pm and they told me it would be about 90 minutes. Now is the good stuff. My neighbor who is a retired PSE&G employee told me the moment he saw the A.J. Perri truck at my door, he should have come over. He said they have a poor reputation. Afterwards, I told him about the capacitator part for $375 and he told me the part costs anywhere from $7-$20, depending on the distributor. He asked me if the technician ever presented the "weak" capacitator that was replaced and shown me the box the new one came in. He's right when he said a reputable company does that. Needless to say, the next morning I put a Stop Payment on the $492.20 check and canceled my appointment for the new system which I probably didn't need. Today, we called the company and canceled our maintenance agreement. We told them we weren't paying $375 for the capacitator and we would pay $150. They finally agreed to $200. I read the reviews on Yelp about this company and it's all true. I don't know how they can stay in business for much longer. I don't trust this company and obviously other people don't either. read more
