These people are so overpriced and do NOT provide exceptional service. 1. They replaced my air conditioning unit and installed it backwards. 2. They used a piece of tape instead of a real metal or PVC cap as a cover over the pipe that emits carbon monoxide into my house 3. They make you use their maintenance service for life to guarantee the new heater and air conditioner in case anything goes wrong with it. They don't tell you this until the job is done. 4. There were several good things about AJ Perri, but I'll get to why they get 1 star in my opinion. I requested boiler service through Home Depot's website, and they routed my request to AJ Perri. Scheduling an appointment was easy. They kept me updated on the tech's arrival during the day through their dispatch team, and even though the technician arrived an hour after the appointment window he was very nice. The diagnostic fee was $95 with tax, which is reasonable. But that's where the good things end. The tech quoted me over $3300 plus tax to replace a couple of parts on a small boiler (water pump, pressure reduction valve, relief valve and expansion tank). I got no parts and labor breakdown. I can tell you for a fact, because I bought the parts at Home Depot, that the parts totaled under $250 (boiler doesn't need a new relief valve). In fairness, before figuring out the quote the tech said it would be expensive, but that price is an absolute ripoff. I'm going to have a handyman my father knows replace the parts I bought for a couple hundred dollars, so in the end I'll spend about 1/8 the price AJ wanted to charge me. Unless it's an absolute emergency, there is zero chance I'll call AJ Perri again. read more

I wish Yelp and other rating sites could include ZERO stars in their ratings of a business. WHY? Because that is what I would give AJ Perri. As far as generator repair is concerned please do not depend on this company for your service needs. I called them up to fix my generator, and was assured that the person coming out was going to be experienced and the truck would have all the essential parts necessary to fix the problem. Several days later a technician came out parked in our driveway and I overheard his conversation with his manager stating that he did not know where the parts are for generators in his truck and that he was not experienced in fixing generators. Not a good start. He troubleshooted, took some pictures and then we spoke to his manager on the phone on they assured me that all the parts would be ordered and everything would be taken care of as soon as possible. And you know what, I don't blame the technician who came out there, it was AJ Perri's fault for sending out the wrong person for this particular job. Five days passed and they called me again stating that another technician had to come out and reevaluate the generator again. I spoke to a manager concerning the whole story that had transpired for the last week and half now and she told me that she was so sorry that I had such a bad experience with AJ Perri. I cancelled the account and all appointments and was told that we would not be receiving any more correspondence from them ever again. WHAT HAPPENS!!! Three days later I have an AJ Perri technician showing up at the property again unannounced. SERIOUSLY how is it possible for the core, primary departments within a company to have such a lack of communication with each other. The guy looks at it fiddles with it for a couple of minutes and says I needed a new fan motor for $600.00, so I told him I would call back, than a friend of mine came over and I told him the problem, he said hold on goes out side to the unit with a butter knife gives the fan a twirl and says turn it it and sure enough it worked fine, it sat too long and just needed a twirl. Another friend of mine was told by one of their workers his air conditioning system needed about $3400 worth of repairs, he calls a another person to look at it put in freon and did some minor adjustments, cost $450.00. read more

SCAM RIP OFF. ZERO STARS. Unprofessional, unethical, incompetent. I don't even know where to begin. Tech had no idea what he was doing, talked on phone with family members, tried to overcharge me $600 for 4lbs of refrigerant after spending 3 hours doing nothing. I said I'd read that the drain could be clogged, and he responded "Maybe THAT's it" (Shouldn't he have known that?). When I said I felt that $600 was too much for the coolant (having been a homeowner for decades with ac service), he said he didn't make the prices. I said I'd like to speak with the person who does. He called his manager from outside, came back in, and threatened "He said if you don't want to pay that, I should drain the refrigerant, take my tools, and go." I stated that was aggressively confrontational and repeated I wanted to speak to the manager. He definitely did not want that. FINALLY, the tech called back the manager and put me on the phone. I told the manager he'd been there 3 hours, spent more time talking to family members than trying to determine the problem, left for 40 minutes with my outdoor unit disassembled, didn't have a clue why the AC had caused thousands of dollars in water damage, and was trying to overcharge me. I also questioned whether the manager told him to drain it, take his tools, and go. The manager denied that and said "there must've been a miscommunication." He mentioned a "pricing book" that I'd never seen. They lowered the cost to $440, but I still feel like I was scammed. HORRENDOUS - They should lose their license. Call anyone else. I had AJ Perri come to my home on 10/13/18 because my furnace would not turn on. At about 4:00pm a "tech" showed up to look at the problem he didnt seem to know what he was looking for so he phoned another service person to guide him . Finally they determined it was the gas valve on the furnace , I was told it would be a whopping $800.00 to fix so needing heat i agreed. the tech started the job but didnt have the pipe wrench so he called a tech close by but he could not be here for a while so my tech was going to go to Lowes to buy the wrench.I told the tech i can loan him the wrench to get the job done. At about 6:30pm the tech told me he was finished the heat was on so i paid him and tipped him. About an hour later my wife told me she smelt gas so we called AJ PERRI back and about 11:00pm another tech arrived .He told me he also smelled the gas as soon as he went to the basement. he checked for gas leaks and found a leaking (NEW) gas valve so he proceeded to redo what the 1st tech did and fixed the leak but when he checked the CO levels he never seen them so high and if he cant control them he would have to shut me down . He checked the burners and found out the 1st tech took them off and didnt replace them properly after doing so the CO levels where back to normal and everything is fine. After reading other reviews it sounds like my elderly mother wasn't the only customer that heard this. They checked her heating system and told her that it was leaking carbon monoxide. They sent a salesman to the house with a "Great Price" to replace the unit. I had another plumber and PSEG check it and was told by both that it was fine. They also replaced a part on her A/C system, around $800 that probably wasn't needed either. They also came back this winter to check her A/C system. Why would you check an A/C system in the winter?? Had them in for the 'annual checkup' on a furnace that was working fine. They scammed my wife on this checkup thing when we had them out to replace an igniter last fall. Tech took our well functioning furnace apart, did little than poke at various wires with a screwdriver and try to sell us a new hot water heater, then had noticeable trouble putting it back together. Two days later, I'm smelling gas outside. A day later, wake up frozen with no heat Furnace has been blowing unburnt gas out the side of the house for several days, wasting $$$ and creating a serious potential for explosion. Now sitting here freezing, waiting for them to eventually come fix what they broke, wasting my day off for NOTHING. Total scam artists. I HATE THESE GUYS! UPDATE: OK, they sent out a new tech today. This guy said first tech should never have removed the 'glow plug' (ignitor) as these are very fragile and break easily. He seemed honestly very surprised when I described the 'inspection' we were given. Of course they didn't bring any replacement parts, and we need to spend ANOTHER night without heat thanks to being saps and buying into their 'service contract' scam. The more I think about this, the angrier I am getting. The whole service thing had nothing to do with the condition of my furnace, it was simply a sales call I PAID for. They came out and broke a working furnace, leaving us in the cold on a long, cold holiday weekend. We're stuck at home, keeping a wood fire going to keep our pipes from freezing, They also gave us a 'scare tactic' rap about how our water heater could 'turn into a rocket and blow up the house'. This is concerning Home Depot relationship with A.J. Perri in New Jersey. I as do a lot of people spend much time and money in Home Depot. I shop or both personal and business, I am the Facilities Manager for a Catholic Church. One day while shopping in your Clifton, NJ store for thermostats for work. I was approached by a salesman to have my home boiler yearly maintenance done. The price was very reasonable $69. for the service so I signed up. The tech came out and told me I need a new pump, a new pressure gauge, and would bleed the air out of my system. I also told him I could install the pump and he could order and change the gauge and bleed the system. As they wanted $1,200 to change the pump, the pump cost $100. to purchase and less then an hour to install. The gauge was $385.and took less them 15 minutes to install. After seeing the gauge that was installed I and researching the price. The gauge cost between $40. and $60. Also for $134. the tech was suppose to bleed the system. At that point he had my son and I going to all the radiators to open bleed values while he stood at the boiler. After about 15 minutes the tech said we needed to add three new values on the return side of the boiler to bleed the system correctly. He told me it was a 3 hour job and the cost with materials would be $1,800. The system was never bled. As the Facilities Manager in the Church I deal with boiler men and plumbers on a regular basics. They all charge about $125. an hour and again the parts are no more that $75. That math does not add up. I call another plumber in to install the bleeder values and the cost was $350. He did it the next day. I spoke to a representative at A.J Perri to ask for a refund on the $134 to bleed the system that was never done. She was suppose to get back to me with an answer by last Friday October 26. I have heard nothing from them. I have learned a valuable less this week about Home Depot and their third party services. When i turned my heat on for the first time 2 days before thanksgiving it did not work. I called the company that previously had done my service and got the run around. I called AJ Perri after a recommendation from my neighbor at 10 am Wednesday morning. they scheduled an appointment for 7-9 pm that night. the technician arrived at 7:12 pm with a call prior to arrival. the diagnosed the problem as a bad gas valve. They did not have this part in stock. I was told i would receive a call Friday am to discuss availability and cost. The call came in around 11 am Friday. Part was available late friday afternoon . We purchased a new home and I called to have the air conditioner checked for the new season. The system was 17 years old and we were told we needed a new system. Mark Carroll came and we agreed to have the new system installed. The service men came and were interesting to listen to about which color wire was to what. They told us the had many years in this type of work. They left and left their dirty shoe covers on the ground and left our attic door open. The ac worked and after the first cycle, wouldn't restart. We called and AJ Perri sent out another tech who said the first guys installed the system incorrectly and didn't finish the installation. He worked on it and said it would work- it did for one cycle and wouldn't restart! We called and were told a tech would be out between 11 and 1. According to the worker that came yesterday, it was to be 2 people. I called at 12:45 as no one has called and it is hot and muggy! I just called to see where they were and I was told the tech is running late. I told her it is supposed to be a 2 man job per the tech yesterday and she said she would call me back. It's now 1:20 and I was told the tech was coming, once again I said there are to be 2 and she said she saw in an email there will be another guy coming, but she doesn't know when he will be here. SCAM! A service call to this company is a sales call to them to sell you a new unit I called AJ Perri to come look at my heating system. The burner in my heating system would shut off and turn on too often and not heat the house correctly. I did research before they came on the internet and YouTube and thought it may be the limit switch, but I do not know heating systems. I called AJ Perri because I see their fancy trucks everywhere. I was told someone could come out and look the same day. They were very good at calling and informing me when the tech would arrive, but the good ended there! The tech arrives and within 5 minutes starts telling me he doesn't want to be bleak, but I have major issues. He starts telling me about a bad gas valve, motor problems, etc. He then asks me the last time I serviced the furnace. He calls my unit a cheap unit, builder grade. He continues and says he could give me an estimate, but based upon the repairs and service he sees it is not worth doing. He says the cost does not make sense. I should just consider replacing the unit. JUST FOR THE RECORD MY UNIT IS 7 YEARS OLD. The tech continues to tell me the work is not worth it and says someone can come out today to talk to me about the new unit. This is when I sense this may be a scam and tell him I need a second opinion before I move ahead. The tech then writes me a 2700 repair estimate which I do not approve and he is on his way. Long story short it was the limit switch. A 20 dollar part not even mentioned to me as a possible problem. It was also not on their estimate. If this was not a scam to get me to buy a new unit then I don't know what is. I spent 143.00 for a scam sales call. They should have paid me. DO NOT USE AJ PERRI. THEY WILL NOT FIX YOUR UNIT. Charged $150 to walk in the door and diagnose the cause of a leaky faucett then made excuses about not being able to get the "right washer", and never called back. They gave me outrageous estimates ($2000 and above depending on the fix needed) for fixing a leak in my AC system. They finally recommended I get a completely new system (from their sales person) while I only have a leak in the system.For instance they estimated the cost of refilling 12 lbs of the coolant $1300 (more than a $100/lb) while you can get a 25 lbs tank from amazon for only $98 (50 times less!!) Plus an additional $900 for labor etc...I was finally charged $100 just for the guy to come and see the system and give me these ridiculous estimates. Do not even go near these crooks. read more

Avoid at all costs. They put a pin hole into my copper line and leaked out all my Freon. They came to conduct a maintenance service on one of my two units . For whatever reason the guy insisted I have someone come out in two weeks and quote my other unit for a full replacement . It's a 2 year furnace and 8 year old confessor that was running ice cold. Sure enough by the time the guy comes out my system is blowing warm air. I showed him the door and call a local company . Purchased old boiler from ETG, 12 years ago, and boiler cracked on the coldest day of the year. AJ Perri rep came out immediately he was professional, showed damage to old boiler via camera, explained new system, quality and difference between boilers, and offered discounts. PSEG also offered boilers but similar to same program offered by ETG. Only 2 year warranty, bottom of the line product, and rep had poor attitude. AJ Perri installers were friendly, patient, and very professional! Also changed my chimney liners, (something not offered by ETG or PSEG), and checked all my old radiators. I've just paid AJ Perri $1226 to replace two blowers in our 12-years old furnace. I should have look at Yelp before! I think the whole furnace costs less. And yes, they have sent us a salesperson, who was trying to sell us a complete replacement package (furnace + A/C + thermostat + pipes) for $15,800 minus this $1226 amount we paid today (which was the main lure). And yes, this refund was valid one day only - today! And yes, I asked him many times about the whole list of equipment they are going to install with model numbers and prices - no way! We got just the total package price on a piece of paper he took with him. And, additionally, he damaged our ceiling dancing on our attic... Two stars for their arrival on time, and repair was actually done OK. But who will fix our ceiling now? read more

We had a drain clog recently and we called A J Perry who sent us the drainage clog removal person. After clog was removed, AJ Perry, promptly suggested and scheduled a camera inspection. Here comes Gaston Paez-Diaz (camera inspection) guy he visited our house and mentioned about damage to pipe and roots grown inside and quoted us $ 4500(Huge !!!!!!). On top of it he mentioned that this price also includes permit fee by the township. He also mentioned that township validates the repair if not done township penalize a fee of 25,000 dollars. We thought the quoted price though high will also include inspection and also validates the work. However, on the day of work, we were waiting for township inspection after the repair We were shocked to know that repair men told me outright that for spot repair there is no township inspection required. Here are our concerns, 1) Estimate made on paper for 10 feet length, however, ONLY 5 to 6 feet length of repair was done. 2) Though estimated for 10 feet, All the joints in the drainage are non pvc as determined in inspection. However, AJ Perry, connected the new pipe to an existing non pvc pipe. This does not display any high-quality workmanship. 3) Talking about inspection, Gaston Paez-Diaz, had mentioned several times how the inspection need not be arranged by client and AJ Perry can handle it. This validates the work and prevents any future penalty. However, it was apparent, from their crew that spot fixed did not require any inspection from township. When we checked receipt, Gaston Paez-Diaz, however had mentioned spot repair. Looks AJ Perry is clearly aware however used inspection to persuade us into accepting order 4) AJ Perry is definitely a rip off estimating more than the normal price and also won't hesitate to persuade the clients by false claims. 5) No Senior discount of 5% was offered on this order, though, initial drain clog repair was honored with 5% discount. read more

As I always like to start on a positive note- my mother-in law has had AJ Perri performing maintenance on her 2 ton residential gas furnace/ AC unit for 12 years and their response to her service calls has been quick, that being said it's probably because every service call becomes an opportunity to upsell her something using scare tactics. Being in the business myself for 30 years on the Industrial and Institutional side I know a little bit about HVAC. This past week her A/C went out and she called for service, apparently her compressor is old and tired and although they could put a hard start kit on it there are no guarantees it would work. It is almost 18 years old and is probably ready for replacement, although I've seen well maintained units last much longer. The service tech recommends replacing the unit and I don't disagree with that. So...tonight we meet the sales rep from Perri. He walks in, introduces himself and immediately begins reading over service tickets and guess what? The outlook is bleak (no surprise there). The compressor is shot, the blower motor is shot and "freon" is no longer available (I'm sure he was referring to R22- scare tactic #1). We need to make a decision and it's not going to be to repair, or so we were told. Still no bonding and rapport effort. He's going to check the furnace out with a small portable camera and tell us just how bad things are. Well the heat exchanger (fire side) has some mild corrosion on the aluminum and that will lead to holes which will allow carbon monoxide to enter the living space (Scare tactic # 2). It is the summer and the heat hasn't been used for 3 months, could it be normal? Absolutely not, or so we're told. Additionally the installation is terrible, the supply plenum is just ductwork with a coil stuck in it and shiny silver duct tape used to excess (BTW- it's Perri's tape work). Let's check the coil with the camera now. The coil has a good percentage of the surface area covered with mold preventing the air from flowing across it properly. We get the explanation of how liquid "freon" comes in, gets turned into a gas and sent back to the compressor, OH and the air infiltration from the lousy ductwork affects that process which is bad for the compressor (after our sales rep misidentified the liquid and suction lines, LOL). This furnace can't be saved and must be replaced. (BTW, she's had a maintenance contract on this unit with Perri and all of this is just coming to light now????) "We won't replace the outdoor unit without replacing the indoor unit" we're told. Up to this point I've said nothing because I wanted to see how this played out until the end, I just couldn't hold back any longer. I asked him if there were any options to replacing the condensing unit with another "type" and holding off on the furnace until later. He said absolutely not . That's when I lost it- I told him that retrofits from 22 to 407C are done all the time with great success when done properly. I don't think he even knew what 407C was. His snappy come back was "we don't do things that way, that would mismatch the coil to the compressor". LOL, what? You mean to tell me that every unit- Commercial, Industrial and Residential will need all components replaced once they fail because R22 will become unavailable at some point? LMAO. FYI- At work I recently retrofitted a 40 ton Condensing unit from R22 to a 407C unit and it worked perfectly. I'm sure a 2 ton unit can handle the same. We never got to the price because I blew up and all he kept saying was "you'll need to find somebody else to do the work because we won't do it that way" and left. Good riddance...... I highly suggest that anyone interested in replacing their HVAC equipment look elsewhere. read more

Had AJ Perri replace an ejector pump in my basement - and it went again. Had a real plumber come in and they said it was a cheap non commercial unit (plastic impeller) and should never have been put into the pit. We paid a flat rate which was extremely expensive - more than double what we had to pay today. The pump we got today is double the size and no plastic. I would never use AJ Perri ever again - so be warned - what you can't see may not be worth the extremely high price you paid. You trust them to do the job right and they cut corners on our job. Needed a new HVAC and AC unit last summer. Called to get an estimate and the salesman was there for over 2 hours on a Sunday night. It was like a time share presentation. Bait and switch. Free estimate costs $89 plus tax. I needed a furnace igniter. On line cost$33. In the plumbing supply cost $75. Aj perri charged me $ 240.
