I've been AJs for dinner and brunch, and in both cases we've found the food to be great and the prices to be very reasonable for the food quality. The wait staff was very friendly and attentive! I been trying to get here to Aj's since they posted the crab egg rolls. It went viral so fast I decided to wait till the hype was over and I'm so happy I did. They were the best I had so far no wonder the lines were around the corner. You taste nothing but crab. We also got sweet jerk wings they were cool but not what I expected. Our fries came out cold but they quickly brought a new batch out and they doubled the fries. They were delicious hot and crispy. The atmosphere was cool too every one was nice came to check in on us and even allowed us to choose our own seating. Both waiters worked together as a team ensuring we were attentive to. Both my cousin and I had the crab cake sandwich with homemade chips, honey jalapeño wings as appetizers. OMG - best crab cake sandwich yet. No filler, just crab meat!!! Great price $21. The homemade chips had a kick to them, a little bit on the spicy side if you don't like spicy probably not something to get, but I LOVED THEM! The wings were okay didn't really taste the jalapeño but could smell the aromas, my cousin liked them though so still okay. Overall with both entrees and big plate (appetizer) it came to $57. Came here for brunch on Sunday morning before a Ravens game on a whim and were surprisingly sat right away (however it did fill up after we were seated). I started off with a cold brew coffee with brown sugar simple syrup which was yummy and the breakfast eggrolls with AJs sauce which was like a cross between ranch and Mac sauce. The eggrolls were so crunchy and delicious. Definitely a must starter for the table. Then I ordered the maple chicken crunchwrap for my entree- breaded chicken, maple syrup, eggs, hashbrowns, etc in a grilled tortilla. It was incredible but it was so much food! I barely finished one half of it but took it home for later. My husband ordered the brunch mac n cheese and it was to die for!! So cheesy with hashbrowns on top!! The chicken ceaser wrap was hot making it taste sour, and the biscuits and sausage gravy tastes of maple syrup and left an unpleasant taste in your mouth. Decided to try this place for brunch since it was in walking distance from my house. Everything we had was SO good! We started with coffee, moved on to the hanover french toast (essentially monkey bread ), and when we couldn't decide on separate meals, decided to split the crab cake Benny and short rib grilled cheese. Needless to say it was quite a filling meal, but I'm thankful for the leftovers because I'll be happy to eat this again. The evening started off confusing for sure. Anyways, sat down on my own and ventured out for a menu. thankfully they don't make drinks too confusing....that was posted on the over-bar chalkboard. At least they used that chalkboard. A good selection of Colorado Ales, weird because I swear I was in Maryland. There was a lamp over our table to make for stress free eye reading, but that puppy was fried. Food came out Luke warm. I sent a crab cake Sammy. It was a bit heavy on the filler and the pretzel bun it came on was a bit too chewy for a crab cake. Overall the ol slammy stayed together which was a nice feature. I would have preferred the broiled version (not an option) opposed to the fried version. Let me add though, the fries were prime. Top tier tater slices (TTTS) or the laymen term "titties" for short. Okay---I was tempted to try this place for a while but because they took the egg roll crabcake off their menu I had some reserves....but since they're back I decided I would try it out & HUGE MISTAKE. The crab cake egg roll in my opinion lacked flavor but I've never had another to compare it to so this will be about the seafood club on a wrap. I was very disappointed. My food was cold and hard. The wrap was very dry, The chips were rubbery. I was excited to try this place but I was thoroughly disappointed in the quality of the food. I WILL NEVER BE VISITING THIS PLACE AGAIN. I chose to eat at this place because of its convenience in distance from a friends house. Upon entering I waited at the host/hostess table for 5-10 minutes because we wanted a table, instead of sitting at the bar. Once we realised no one was coming to seat us, we approached the bar to ask the bartender if we could get a table. At that time a couple seated near the bar mentioned that the seats at the bar were open and we could sit there. Thus, we decided to just sit at the bar. We sat at the bar 10-15 minutes while several bartenders walked by and didnt even look in our direction. They didnt acknowledge that we'd sat down at the bar. They didnt say "We'll be right with you." Nothing. Finally someone comes over and speaks, and I mention we've been waiting for 10-15 minutes. He responds, not "I'm sorry, we're just sort of busy", not "we apologize but we can help you now", but "Nahhhhh I dont think it's been that long buddy." This first acknowledges that we have indeed been waiting for quite some time. Secondly, to not offer any sort of apology and only the perception that "we dont care" was awfully rude. We decided to leave and walked to Ryleighs Oyster bar which is a much better place. Where we received service immediately. I never really write reviews but this was by far the worst experience I've had out of the all bars I've visited in Bmore. If you are thinking of going here, dont. Go somewhere else. I can offer better places to go. I dont want to make it a race thing, but it should mentioned that we were the only two black patrons "at that time." That is all. read more

I'm so glad this restaurant is able to be open during COVID. They are truly doing everything they can to make take out special. This is my third time going 2 this establishment. The first time I went I ordered the items in the photos. Yet I went back 4 a mother's day brunch. Although the service was great, the food was awful. Yet, since my 1st visit was so great, I decided to give this place yet another try. BIG mistake. We arrived there and was seated right away. Our waiter was drunk. I could smell the alcohol from his mask, but he was really nice. He wiped down our table and suggested the cheeseburger egg rolls 4 me because I was going 2 order the crabcake egg rolls. He told me 2 get the cheeseburger egg rolls because people seem 2 sleep on them & they were cheaper. I also ordered honey old bay chicken wings. My daughter ordered the great tasting po boy like I had ordered on our 1st visit. Well, the egg rolls were toooooo greasy, the chicken wings probably had a tear drop of honey and a spec of seasoning...I would have been better off asking 4 plain wings. My daughter's sub had about 4 pieces of shrimp while last time the shrimp was falling off of the sub. Oh I forgot 2 mention the cold fries that we received. We waited and waited 4 the waiter 2 return 2 our table. (Mind u the place was not that crowded). He NEVER returned 2 find out if we had any concerns. I first had dinner at AJs shortly after they opened. I split the tortellini with a friend and it was good, but not heated through. It's been a while but my boyfriend and I decided to go back for me to give them another try and we had a better meal. I am eating healthier and substituting any carbs. The only issue with my meal is that the Brussels sprouts I substituted were drowned in balsamic vinegar. It was nothing crazy rememberable but was definitely a spot I'd recommend stopping in for breakfast if you live in the area or are just around the area at the time. This place was a staple in South Baltimore but their service and food has drastically gone downhill during the pandemic. I dined here yesterday and they had 3 waiters, all who were unattentive. It almost felt like we were overlooked because we were black. We had to ask for someone to take our order and had to ask for the check, 15 mins after our plates were cleared, and took forever to get delivered to us. What's worse is, the food was only lukewarm. Considering the wait and how they weren't crowded was a complete turnoff. I'll never patronage this place again. If I could leave zero stars, I would. Visited this little spot on a Sunday for brunch. It wasn't too crowded and we were able to score outdoor seating which was a plus during these times. The restaurant seems cleaned and they offered us a QR code to view their menu--opposed to the quite unsanitary ones given at most establishments. We went to visit AJ's last night for Baltimore restaurant week. We were seated right away and the staff was very friendly. I gave it three stars because of the time it took to get our food and the quality of the food. While the cauliflower tots and kielbasa meatballs were delicious, the entrees were not. Between the appetizer and the entree we waited an hour and the food came out to us lukewarm at best. My boyfriend ordered the steak to be done medium rare, and it came out extremely rare. I made the mistake of ordering a pasta dish that had crab in a garlic butter sauce. The pasta was undercooked and cold in certain spots and was drowned in the garlic butter sauce instead of lightly tossed in it. Overall, the food was very mediocre and I doubt we will be coming back to try more. read more

There wasn't much flavor to it; most of the flavor was in the dipping sauce that tastes like mayo and old bay mixed. The drinks were pretty good and strong and the location was nice. They have a good amount of seating outside and 3 tables inside. There may be a slight issue with parking but there's plenty of side streets that could help with this. It was all well made and delish. The grilled cheese w/tomato soup app - we ran out of grilled cheese bites, and they brought more, hot without us asking(or expecting). My husband and I just moved down the street and we enjoy AJ's a lot. The food is always tasty (LOVE the short rib grilled cheese) and the drinks are pretty good.
