This place got busy on Friday afternoon. They are super short on staff. The staff basically dropped down the menu iPad and left. We completed the order on iPad by ourselves and food took 15-20 min to arrive. The food was decent. This place was quiet and cozy. And the staff got so busy that we can constantly see leftover bowls sitting on tables after party leaves, and staff get around it eventually. My party of three visited on a Friday night and were pleasantly surprised to find the restaurant not packed at all. We were seated immediately. The ordering system is entirely iPad-based, right at your table, which includes ordering drinks like water - so don't forget to add it to your order! I tried the Kaisen Bento. It was very reasonable priced and the staff was kind enough to let me replace the shell fish with salmon. It also comes with uni but it wasn't that fresh. Overall it was vey decent. We don't live to far away and always looking for good Japanese Restaurants, but never noticed this place until a few months ago when our previous favorite Sushi place suddenly stopped being our favorite place. Ajito is a real gem and a real Japanese Izakaya sytle restaurant run by a husband and wife team. The menu is surprisingly large and they have different bento box specials each day that you can preview on their Facebook page. So far I've pretty much ordered the Kasien Bento box with Assorted sashimi over sushi rice and a variety of side dishs each time which is great. But we go with other people so we've ordered a bunch of other stuff that have been great. Excellent Oshitashi, Agedashi Tofu, salmon skin rolls, Yaki Onigiri, Sashimi Salad, Grilled sliced beef tongue (not really into stuff like that but it was actually good). My mom was tempted to order one of their daily bentos, but the sashimi salad spoke to her! We've never seen this dish before. The quality of the steak in the curry rice was not good. For $24, I would not purchase again. I understand that it's meant to be eaten with the curry rice, so it's not seasoned. However, the steak itself was too tough. The curry taste was okay, I did like the touch of ground beef in the curry itself. The salmon sashimi and nigiri was very delicious, though! Well cut and they offer a reasonable portion. Ajito is a treat for our family. We love the special bento boxes A, B and C run daily on Facebook and Instagram, and the other regular bentos like the Kaisen, Vegetable & Tofu, Karaage and Unagi options. They are all reasonably priced, huge and diverse (think of a curated plate equivalent to a showcase at the end of The Price is Right!). Ajito's food also seems so much more authentic and unique than the everyday Americanized Japanese food with generic nigiri on unseasoned sushi rice and bland sushi rolls we're so used to finding here, even in Cupertino. Sure, Ajito has all the favorites but their selections, styling, sauces and sides really make Ajito stand out. Beyond the special bentos, a few of my personal fave dishes are the Agedashi Tofu and the Unagi Don. On my list to try next are the Sashimi Salad, Yaki Onigiri and the Takowasa. We also tried yellowtail and scallops sushi which is delicious. The tonkotsu ramen comes with two fried shrimp and a half cooked boil egg and a few pieces of chicken so if you are looking for ramen with pork belly then this is not for you. The soup was delicious and rich. Please pay attention to their business hours. They have two different business hours. One for take out and one for dine in. Also the dine in menu is different from the take out menu. Dinner is reservation only so I saw them turned down walk in guests. This is our favorite neighborhood Japanese place for lunch, we have been going at least once every couple of weeks for the past few months. Our kids love the kids bento box which come with a toy they get to pick. It's one of the few times we don't have to nag them to finish their food! My husband and I love the kaiseki sushi bento, and their specials are great too, just had a gindara (black cod) there and was delicious.
