This is a small but mighty kitchen with high quality fish and great service. Our family of 4 came to this small restaurant in a Cupertino strip mall on a Saturday night. We ordered: *vegetable tempura udon *salmon teriyaki *poki roll (like a California roll but extra, lots of tuna, including a pile of poke in the center of the plate) *spicy albacore roll (a favorite) *variety of hand rolls (favorites were salmon avocado for the kid and spicy hamachi for me) The portion sizes were very generous. The cooked dishes were all well liked. I would order the miso soup as a starter in the future. The restaurant got 75-80% full while we were there, plus they had a lot of take out orders. The portion size was slightly smaller than I expected (8 pieces, with some ginger, soy sauce, wasabi, and a lemon slice), I think a bit expensive (~20). But the roll definitely had thick cuts of salmon, and the fish felt very fatty and filling so at the end I wasn't hungry. The roll didn't blow me away, but it was satisfactory for a very simple dish to begin with. Has lots of 2-4 ppl tables, interior is all very dark colored wood / more dark / moody. Some of the BEST sushi in the bay area. This has become a local favorite for us and we are always here. Their rolls are amazing and super flavorful and are also pretty unique -- they have all the classics but also some unique twists. Our favorite is the spicy salmon roll (without rice). I don't know how they do it, but there's just so much goodness packed in there. Service is great -- super friendly, very quick to bring the rolls out. We are sometimes in and out within 30 minutes. The interior is nice, clean, and modern with some unique vintage decor on the walls. Overall -- 10 out of 10 would recommend. I expect to see lines out the door at this place soon. read more

We ate in and had miso soup, side house salad (had a nice refreshing dressing maybe raspberry) , crunch roll, lion king and chicken teriyaki (bc husband isn't a huge fan of sushi), but we both really liked everything we ordered. Place was clean and welcoming, server was quick to refill waters. They also had some outside seating, but looked closed. It was also super hot so we wouldn't have eaten outside anyway. Tuesday night walked in around 5:30pm, there was no one here. Inside restaurant, dimming light with clean clear set up. And greeted and welcomed in right away. The pictures hanging in the restaurant caught my attention: American history and Japanese culture... very interesting collections. The waitress or owner ( not sure) took our order, two dinner bentos, unagi, Kizuna roll ( highly recommended)and curry chicken plate. First review of 2025 We were in the mood for sushi on the first day of 2025, and decided to order take out from Kizuna. We had dined in here before but didn't get a chance to post a review. This time we only ordered sushi and sashimi. The sashimi portion size was generous and the fish was melt in your mouth quality (6 pcs order) and they served an extra piece with the order. All the sushi rolls (all specialty rolls), were great, really enjoyed the ones with calamari on the outside as well as fried scallops! Solid sushi! This restaurant has such cute vibes. We came in on a Wednesday evening and were seated immediately. Friendly service and food came out promptly. Food: - Mango Crunch: We could definitely taste the mango - where at some point it was very overpowering. They were generous with the large mango pieces in the roll, especially the mango sauce. We thought it could've done fine without the extra sauce. 7/10 - Sunrise: The salmon tasted fresh and soft while the tuna had a bounce to it. The tuna had a slight fishy aftertaste and the roll itself was tangy. 7/10 - Avengers: Hugeee rolls! This was our favorite. We enjoyed the different slices of fish on top drizzled in the spicy Mayo and tobiko. The deep fried shrimp inside gave a different texture to the roll. 9/10 - Spider: Another huge roll! The deep fried soft shell crab was really yummy and it wasn't too soft or too hard. I was not expecting yamagobo (pickled burdock root) inside, which gave a pleasant crunch and slight pickle-y taste to the roll. 8/10 - Rainbow: It didn't really stand out much to me. The tuna and albacore had a slight fishy taste to them, but the others tasted fine. The rice was a bit too tangy in some parts for me. 7/10 Definitely give this place a chance for some of their big rolls (bang for your buck!) and vibe-y interior. Kizuna rebranded in recent months and is now focused on bentos and sushi! Still an excellent and solid place providing Japanese cuisine - the bentos still feature a teriyaki protein (chicken, beef, salmon) as the entree, with choice of 1 or 2 sides, and the sides include the choice of various sashimi, rolls and hand rolls. Portion size is great for the price, not cheap but pretty fair for the area. The bentos also come with soup, rice, and salad as well. I've personally tried the salmon teriyaki bento and the beef teriyaki bento -- both were excellent. For sides, we particularly enjoyed the sashimi (3 thick pieces), tuna roll and california hand roll. There's also non-sushi side options like tonkatsu and gyoza as well, you can choose from almost a dozen options. They still offer online order like they did before the rebrand, and it was super easy to submit & get a confirmation. Order was ready when I arrived to pick up. Parking can be a bit tricky on weekends due to Dynasty nearby, but park closer to the dance studio and you shouldn't have any issues. Staff was friendly and greeted me right away when I walked in. Haven't dined in since the rebrand, so can't speak to that, but will definitely be back! read more

I came here on a Wednesday with a friend, since I had previously came here back when it was Kizuna curry! I was curious whether the rebrand was successful or not, and in my opinion it was! They serve a bit of everything so it was difficult to decide on what to order. I opted for the 4 piece salmon sashimi and the chicken katsu curry, since I wanted to see if their recipe had changed after changing their brand. My friend ordered the scallop hand roll and mixed tempura. I tried one of the shrimp pieces and it was really good! The breading was light and crisp, not too heavy. It let the flavor of the shrimp shine through. The fish was fresh and generously cut. The curry was the most polarizing to me- it wasn't the same curry I remembered, and it didn't stand out to me as much as their old recipe did. I wish they'd serve it with beef sukiyaki or something that isn't katsu/breaded to help absorb the curry flavor along with the rice. I love what they've done with the interior- previously it was all take-out boxes and self-serve water dispensers, likely remnants of when they were operating throughout COVID when their doors were not open for diners. Luckily, it is now fully furnished and has a lot of Studio Ghibli posters and American memorabilia up on the wall. Really stylish, I look forward to trying it once more. read more

If you are looking for the old Kizuna, it doesn't exist anymore. I could cry. I didn't know until today. I stepped into today and things looked different. Then I realized they change ownership. Kizuna used to have the best curry in the bay area. No longer. It used to be really deep flavored curry, with bits of meat, carrots and potato, made with care and love. Now it's just your generic curry. It's not terrible, just not the same. I am so so sad. I used to drive down from SF just to get some curry. Now I need to find a new place. It's a completely different menu and ownership but I think there is still much to like if you come with the expectation that this is a completely different restaurant that specializes in bentos and sushi rolls. Rice wasn't soft nor good, was hard and kinda thin. Far worse than the Japanese rice I'm use to (which I cook in my $800 cooker). The sushi was kinda broken up and the taste wasn't that good. Used to come here often when they served curry, donburis, and udon. Now that they have sushi, they've really up'ed their game. Ordered one of the salmon rolls and it was nice and fresh. I was really disappointed to hear that the original Kizuna restaurant was about to close its doors. At that time, the owners were primarily serving the local community through outdoor dining, but it remained our go to place for great curry dishes. Several months ago, my husband and I happened to drive by Kizuna. We noticed an "open" sign in the window, and wondered if Kizuna had re-opened. Curious, we walked into an empty restaurant, but definitely open for business. We decided to give it a try. While the menu was new, it included a variety of bento box options and sushi. Always skeptical of new restaurants, we were pleasantly surprised. I selected a beef teri and gyoza bento combination. My husband had salmon teri and tempura. Both dishes included rice, salad and miso soup. Everything was prepared beautifully and absolutely delicious. Plus, the portions were sizable and we had leftovers to take home. The "new" Kizuna is once again our go to restaurant when we want to eat great Japanese food. Since our initial visit, we've also tried the katsu, mixed tempura and sushi, all of which were just as good. The Japanese dishes at Kizuna are always consistent and the current owners (husband and wife) are gracious and welcoming. Please give Kizuna a try. You'll love it. read more
