First review of 2025 We were in the mood for sushi on the first day of 2025, and decided to order take out from Kizuna. We had dined in here before but didn't get a chance to post a review. This time we only ordered sushi and sashimi. The sashimi portion size was generous and the fish was melt in your mouth quality (6 pcs order) and they served an extra piece with the order. All the sushi rolls (all specialty rolls), were great, really enjoyed the ones with calamari on the outside as well as fried scallops! I cannot comment on the service but as I recall, the service was good last time we dined here... Interior is decorated with manga framed characters and has a cute modern Japanese vibe to it... Solid place to order sushi from.

    Spicy dragon!! Soooo yummy

The service was very friendly and prompt! We ordered the spicy dragon and the raider roll. They came out fairly quickly, but I know they made them fresh because we sat at the bar counter. Love the Totoro artwork inside :)

Solid sushi! This restaurant has such cute vibes. We came in on a Wednesday evening and were seated immediately. Friendly service and food came out promptly. Food: - Mango Crunch: We could definitely taste the mango - where at some point it was very overpowering. They were generous with the large mango pieces in the roll, especially the mango sauce. We thought it could've done fine without the extra sauce. 7/10 - Sunrise: The salmon tasted fresh and soft while the tuna had a bounce to it. The tuna had a slight fishy aftertaste and the roll itself was tangy. 7/10 - Avengers: Hugeee rolls! This was our favorite. We enjoyed the different slices of fish on top drizzled in the spicy Mayo and tobiko. The deep fried shrimp inside gave a different texture to the roll. 9/10 - Spider: Another huge roll! The deep fried soft shell crab was really yummy and it wasn't too soft or too hard. I was not expecting yamagobo (pickled burdock root) inside, which gave a pleasant crunch and slight pickle-y taste to the roll. 8/10 - Rainbow: It didn't really stand out much to me. The tuna and albacore had a slight fishy taste to them, but the others tasted fine. The rice was a bit too tangy in some parts for me. 7/10 Definitely give this place a chance for some of their big rolls (bang for your buck!) and vibe-y interior. I'm a fan of their Studio Ghibli art work!

    beef teriyaki bento (2 sides) - $20

Kizuna rebranded in recent months and is now focused on bentos and sushi! Still an excellent and solid place providing Japanese cuisine - the bentos still feature a teriyaki protein (chicken, beef, salmon) as the entree, with choice of 1 or 2 sides, and the sides include the choice of various sashimi, rolls and hand rolls. Portion size is great for the price, not cheap but pretty fair for the area. The bentos also come with soup, rice, and salad as well. I've personally tried the salmon teriyaki bento and the beef teriyaki bento -- both were excellent. For sides, we particularly enjoyed the sashimi (3 thick pieces), tuna roll and california hand roll. There's also non-sushi side options like tonkatsu and gyoza as well, you can choose from almost a dozen options. They still offer online order like they did before the rebrand, and it was super easy to submit & get a confirmation. Order was ready when I arrived to pick up. Parking can be a bit tricky on weekends due to Dynasty nearby, but park closer to the dance studio and you shouldn't have any issues. Staff was friendly and greeted me right away when I walked in. Haven't dined in since the rebrand, so can't speak to that, but will definitely be back!

    Chicken katsu curry

I came here on a Wednesday with a friend, since I had previously came here back when it was Kizuna curry! I was curious whether the rebrand was successful or not, and in my opinion it was! They serve a bit of everything so it was difficult to decide on what to order. I opted for the 4 piece salmon sashimi and the chicken katsu curry, since I wanted to see if their recipe had changed after changing their brand. My friend ordered the scallop hand roll and mixed tempura. I tried one of the shrimp pieces and it was really good! The breading was light and crisp, not too heavy. It let the flavor of the shrimp shine through. The fish was fresh and generously cut. The curry was the most polarizing to me- it wasn't the same curry I remembered, and it didn't stand out to me as much as their old recipe did. I wish they'd serve it with beef sukiyaki or something that isn't katsu/breaded to help absorb the curry flavor along with the rice. I love what they've done with the interior- previously it was all take-out boxes and self-serve water dispensers, likely remnants of when they were operating throughout COVID when their doors were not open for diners. Luckily, it is now fully furnished and has a lot of Studio Ghibli posters and American memorabilia up on the wall. Really stylish, I look forward to trying it once more.

Chicken teriyaki/ salmon & tuna sashimi / salmon roll

I went yesterday for lunch to try this place with new owner I used to go there since they opened with original Japanese owner, our favorite dish was always Tempura Donburi. This time we ordered lunch box. Both chicken & beef meats are tender, but too much sweet teriyaki sauce was covered. Sashimi & rolls are okay. Overall nothing special.

The sushi was ok, not amazing not horrible. The fish could have been fresher. Other places are better for the same price.

food was good. we ordered three rolls and the i think it was called avengers was the best one there. I didn't get to try the sashimi/nigiri but overall the flavor was good and i would come here again. plus it is very close by to me and in a great plaza. the server was nice and friendly too

    - Dinner Bento Box (Beef) - Raiders Sushi - Chicken Katsu

Service was quick and their spicy tuna was super fresh! Their beef dinner bento box was like... steak and it tasted so good. If you're not into a lot of sauce, request for sauce on the side! Overall, I would definitely come back again :)

Top dragon roll. Bottom spider roll. Good sized. It filled me up.

It is much slimmer pickings than the sake, but enjoyed our sparkling wine paired with the kaiseki very much. The dishes were all excellent. The thing that lingered in my mind even till this day, a week after I am writing this review, is that umami flavor bomb chawanmushi with mosel mushroom and uni (never can go wrong with uni). The other thing that I thought took more skill, attention, and was unique to the chef's background was their dashi/broth. It was a complex of flavors from the sea that all paired well together. I thoroughly enjoyed every sip, and the flavors waking up all parts of my tongue. One more part - the meat dishes were not my favorite. They just do the seafood so well. Oh! And dessert, of course, the Japanese melons were as if it was dipped in fructose lol Ambiance is dressy and date-worthy :) the elderly ladies beside me were sporting their Birkens and taking pics of their food next to it

Their website says to contact them via phone messaging, but they don't even reply to THAT. Fortunately, there is another Japanese restaurant just one block down (Hachi ju Hachi) which serves superb, authentic Japanese food and which warmly WELCOMES its customers. We went there instead and are of the opinion we didn't miss out on anything by giving this kaiseki joint a pass.

My only minor gripe was the pacing as we had 3 dishes on our small square table at one point in the meal. I understand though, since they clearly had a busy night ahead as the restaurant filled up quickly after 7:30 PM. Ambience is kind of loud due to the chatter and closely spaced tables. We're glad we picked here to show them what the Bay Area can do in terms of more authentic Japanese food. The decor is traditional and not fancy, but comfortable and clean. The shishito peppers were really tasty, not too hot, pleasantly hot. Edamame was typical, nothing really special, but it's a bit difficult to really elevate edamame. The braised pork was good and the lean parts were easy to selectively eat. Nothing here is aggressively seasoned, but also not at all bland, so it's a good balance of flavorful but not overbearing. The grilled chicken wings were okay, but nothing outstanding or memorable - but simple and fine. Our "main" dishes, the deluxe meshi, nike tofu, and okonomiyaki were all great! Wish this were a little closer to where we live, but we enjoy coming here whenever we do and I recommend this for trying more traditional dishes when you want something different than simple teriyaki and sushi rolls.

Other than the edamame, which was very bland, everything was very flavorful. The pork was very soft, and the sliced thin beef paired really well with the tofu in the niku tofu. Both dishes came piping hot, and were very comforting, like home-cooked food. The shishito peppers came with a lot of bonito flakes; they're charred very well and not spicy at all. Wings well nicely grilled, too. The seafood okonomiyaki was not bad. It's a bit softer than I expected, but had quite a lot of seafood. The large Deluxe Meshi was pretty big. It came in a hot stone pot with a generous amount of salmon, eel, flying fish roe and a poached egg. I loved how crispy the rice around the pot was. No wonder it's their most popular dish. If you like authentic Japanese food, I would highly recommend this place.
