What a find! Absolutely delicious Here for two days and will definitely return. Started with Hawaiian Poke - spicy marinated tuna over seaweed salad with tobiko sprinkled on top. Mouthwatering. Followed by an unagi roll which was good, nothing earth shattering. Lastly, we had the Flaming Dragon roll. This came out wrapped in foil which the server ignited. It burned for a while, cooking the talapia inside perfectly. The roll had deep fried shrimp and imitation crab inside with spicy tuna, salmon and talapia outside and tobiko sprinkled on top. So, here comes the comment on this dish: I wouldn't say impressive but yet a bit awkward by looking at it. It's nothing about freshness, indeed the fish is very fresh. They did mention sashimi of chef's choice, 18 pcs on the menu. Which they DID give 18 pcs of sashimi. But that's it. I was hoping to see more variety of the sashimi but I only get 3. Tuna, salmon and yellow tail (I believe). I was paused for few seconds, trying to process what was that LOL. If you ask am I disappointed, I would definitely tell you, "Yes, I am disappointed". We finally visited Harumi, wait was short, you sign in once you get there. On a Sunday afternoon, the wait was about 15 minutes for us. Once I walked in, I was kind of liking it already cause the decor is cute and open with tons of fresh lighting from the outside windows. The other thing that caught my attention was the fact they were spraying and wiping down the menus which is a plus for me. Our server Mia was great, very pleasant! Food was ok, nothing to really rave about, everything is small in pieces, such as sashimi. I mean very small in size. The best was the hibachi steak and shrimp. Then the carpaccios. A cute little sushi restaurant! We decided to have lunch. We had a really tasty hot tea served in metal cups. We ordered Bento and it did not disappoint. The miso soup was served very hot and the tofu and miso seemed very fresh. The tempura was cooked perfectly, all the veggies were soft with crunchy tempura skins. When I came for the first time in person this low key and not crowded spot actually was pretty good for the food they served. This seems family owned and beloved by the locals here. This place is your average sushi joint. It's located in the same plaza as the Marukai and Daiso so there is plenty of parking. However, parking can get a little crazy during meal times. Service is usually pretty good, never had any trouble being seated and getting our orders. Nothing really makes them stand out too much, but the food is good. On this day, I ordered the crazy roll and agedashi tofu to share. My boyfriend ordered the harumi roll. This was enough for the two of us. Food was good. I would come back as it is quite close to my apartment. Update: Bumping them from 3 to 4 stars for their excellent service. My friend ordered a chicken donburi and when they brought it out, there were dried bonito flakes on it. He is allergic to seafood and when he brought it up to the staff, they were extremely accomodating. Went here for lunch recently and found that the bento lunches were really good quality and portion size. Plenty of options to chose from if you want any other kinda of sushi, grilled plates, or bowls as well. Service was super quick and efficient and I thought that it was very thought that they didn't rush us to finish our lunch by pushing the bill on us. The menu here is pretty standard for a Japanese restaurant. They have noodles and rice bowls, various teriyaki and tempura options, bento, and a lot of sushi in the form of rolls, nigiri, and sashimi. I was starving, so I opted for a bento since I know those are generally pretty hearty. I got the #11 bulgogi, tempura, and California Roll bento for $19.95. Everything was pretty good and I was stuffed by the end. I only wish there was more rice, as there wasn't enough to eat with all the bulgogi. My friends were also happy with their food. A solid choice for sushi in the plaza. Despite the restaurant being overshadowed by newer, flashier restaurants nearby, the fish is fresh and the rolls are good. There was no wait when I went in for lunch and you get a free miso soup with your meal, which is nice. I was very impressed with the bulgogi bento set with sashimi, as the portion size was quite generous. The salmon sashimi was incredibly fresh and very thick, and the bulgogi was rich and plentiful (albeit slightly too sesame-y, both seed and oil). The double spicy salmon roll was also quite good and had a surprisingly spicy kick, which was nice to see. Our visit was pleasant and the bento for dinner was plentiful. We visited the mall for the Tokyo market only to discover the mall is mostly all Asian eateries which was a pleasant surprise. The bento box(bulgogi,tempora and California roll) was tasty and more than enough. That was the extent of my sampling. Parking is tight despite the size of the lot and might require a little waiting. We came to Harumi Sushi mainly because Marufuku Ramen had a long waitlist. I ordered the Tonkotsu Ramen. The price is cheaper than at other restaurants. However, the broth was thin and weak and didn't have much tonkotsu flavor. The noodles were soft and seemed like instant noodles. There was lot of seaweed and bamboo and seafood cake, plus three small pieces of pork. My wife told me that I shouldn't order ramen from a restaurant that doesn't specialize in ramen. Probably good advice. My wife had a bento with salmon teriyaki, sashimi, and tempera. The salmon was a good size but shaped in a very symmetrical oval shape, which I found to be unusual. The salmon was not dry but curiously didn't have a lot of salmon taste. The sashimi was decent but was $4 extra. The tempura was good and crispy but there wasn't a lot. My son had the chirashi bowl. The fish looked and tasted good. The pieces were good sized and there was plenty of fish. However, the bowl was $31. Overall, an okay experience but likely won't be back. read more

Disappointing First Visit - Won't Be Returning This was my first visit to Harumi, dining with two friends who have eaten here several times before. Unfortunately, our experience was very disappointing. The Pros: We each ordered the bento boxes, which were reasonably priced at $19.95 and offered a nice variety -- protein, salad, tempura, rice, and a California roll. The food came out fairly quickly, which we appreciated. The Cons: The service was the biggest issue. While our teas and waters were served promptly, refills were slow even though our glasses sat empty for quite a while. Our waitress disappeared during the meal, and we had to ask other staff members for water refills and takeout boxes. There's also an automatic 18% service fee added to every bill, regardless of party size. This was not mentioned by our server, and if we hadn't looked closely at the check, we might have added an extra tip on top of that. The worst part came at the end. After collecting our payment, our waitress returned and gave us dirty looks for several minutes -- clearly upset that we didn't leave an additional tip beyond the automatic service fee. It made for an uncomfortable and unpleasant ending to the meal. Sadly, despite the decent food, the poor service and unprofessional behavior from our server have ensured that we won't be coming back. read more

The place is always clean with food served quickly without sacrifice to quality which is much appreciated. On this visit going to give 3 stars not for the food or ambiance which I'd give a solid 4 , but the service. Quick to seat , have me order , no refill on the water or check if needed anything and the bill. I think they may have noticed I started this review before paying as I did receive about 4 thank you before leaving but the lack of service at the dinning point gives this review a 3 plus solid. We stopped by for a late lunch and ordered: sake (salmon) nigiri, smoked sake nigiri, spicy salmon hand roll, king's roll, and a chicken teriyaki rice plate. I think by our order, you can tell I'm a big salmon fan. My favorite was the sake nigiri since it just melted away in my mouth. The rest of our orders were also delicious and the food came out pretty quickly. The place is small but it wasn't too busy when we came in the late afternoon on a Sunday. We have been going here for years. Food is consistently great, delicious and fresh. The tempura is not greasy. It's so light and and flavorful. The bento boxes are fresh, so yummy! The appetizers namely agedashi, monkey brain are excellent too. The miso pork ramen on cold days is so delicious and filling. Everything is cooked perfectly. Comfy food. i dined here for the first time and want to share the good and bad of harumi. the good: the harumi roll wasnt too bad, it was tempura fried and had a nice sauce on it too. the service was alright. and the food came out very quick which was nice. the "bad": i put quotations around bad because i didnt have a bad experience, it just wasnt the best. for one the golden gate roll is very bland as u can see. usually my favorite thing about getting sushi is the presentation of it, the time and effort into all of the toppings and mixes of sauces. but it was just incredibly bland with just the mayo topping on it. no masago, green onions, etc. leaving it looking very boring. unfortunately the worst thing was the monkey brain. everything about it tasted wrong. the mushrooms were extremely dry, the spicy tuna tasted sort of funny, and there was an uneven distribution of the spicy sauce leaving some bites to be mild and the others way to spicy. i wish i liked this place because im in this shopping center a lot. its a cute looking spot from the inside and outside. but their quality of food just didnt meet my expectations, i will sadly not be back. read more

Totally get why the reviews for Harumi are SO mixed. First visit (pre-covid): Meh sushi. And, our server was kinda rude and acted like he didn't want to be there. He spilled beer on our table and walked away. And, he seemed annoyed when I asked for napkins to wipe the beer off. He's loooong gone though. She ordered the tonkatsu ramen and I got the bento: beef teriyaki, tempura, and gyoza. The ramen was ok after she added soy sauce. We tasted better one. My bento came without the miso soup which made me feel that it's incomplete bento. Miso soup should be included in a bento in my opinion. The beef teriyaki was tender but the sauce was too sweet. The rice portion was quite small and the tempura weren't as crunchy as I hope with a skinny shrimp. The bento plate also stretched out as you can see in the picture. I'm surprised with this. I love sushi! I found this place by a friend who raved about the sushi at this location. I said why not. If it's good, it's good right! I drove 20-25 min on 1/28 just for this place. The sushi was made by one of the nicest chefs named Marco. He's super cheerful, friendly and very welcoming! He went the extra mile to offer miso soup but I've never been a big fan of that so I kindly declined. He was kind enough to grant my odd requests for the platter order I placed. Unfortunately his co worker who works as a waitress wasn't as friendly and was not welcoming at all. As I was coming through the door she rushed in to tell me my order was ready and set it by the door next to the entrance/ exit. As she was charging me and I was getting payment out all I kept hearing is her anxiously tapping her fingers on the register. She took my cash and brought back change only to avoid me by simply handing me my change in a little tray (right hand out towards me holding the change tray) as she acknowledged a family who had just walked in. I was done grabbing my change and waited a second or two in hopes that she'd turn to me and acknowledge me on my way out but she continued talking to the other group. No eye contact. No thank you. NOTHING! I hope that wasn't her typical behavior towards customers because if so, clients like myself will not be returning.
