This is a hidden GEM! I must say that it gives a very different vibe just coming seeing the interior upon entering. It's cozy but elegant when compared to others in the same cuisine. The offerings on the menu were excellent but to the side you'll find...The Secret menu looks to be the star of the show. It did not miss. The meats are well seasoned, and the flavors are layered and meld together nicely. The service was good and we got to talk with the owner and family. I will definitely support as the quality is definitely worth the price. $18 for a burrito and a little more for the secret menu nachos, but when I saw the presentation and amount of food when they came out, my jaw dropped. My mouth was not disappointed. I will recommend it to everyone. Go there and taste their secret menu! That menu changes and I look forward to what else they come up with! read more

Cute place and relatively easy parking. The front windows are blacked out which keeps the inside cooler and gives a bit of ambiance. The decor is dark and trendy and the menu is pretty extensive. There were quite a few people eating mid-day on a weekday - always a good sign. The young man working was friendly and let me know breakfast was still an option. I ended up ordering a carne asada taco and a birria taco. He let me know they'll bring it to me, which he did, along with napkins, water, a fork, and 2 salsas. The red salsa was good at first but then had a bitter flavor like it has chili powder. I'm not usually a fan of green salsas but theirs is really fresh and vibrant. The tacos are beautiful! And huge! But for me, these were hard to eat. I love tacos as an easy handheld light meal. The birria taco had stuff all over it and was too soft to pick up, so I ate it with the fork. It seemed to have chili powder on the outside which overpowered any other flavors. I noticed other reviews mentioned their birria tacos were crispy and came with consomme, so maybe this was an off day as mine had no consomme and was very soggy. The green salsa went well with this one. Then it was time to tackle the enormous carne asada taco. I picked it up and tried to take a bite with everything, unsuccessfully. Its so big you have to bite a little here and bite a little there. I set it down and it really lost structure. I could have used the fork to balance all the innards in the middle again, but I wasn't really loving it and was getting full. I tried some of the meat with the different salsas, and felt the meat had a bad taste, not like it was off but just cooked in a certain way. I decided I'd had enough. This place is really cute and has a lot of options- and great reviews! And you can tell they put a lot into presentation of both the restaurant and the food. YUCK!! I had high hopes that they knew what they were doing...nope!! I am a Birria expert. What they served was in NO way anything even remotely close to it. The meat was disgusting. Stringy, bland, gray. No flavor. The tortillas were served on the side. WTF. They didn't even serve it with consommé...I had to ask for it and they gave me a tiny-two tablespoons worth. I guess that is ok, because it was HORRIBLE anyway. All oil, ZERO flavor. Come on. I'm not even sure why I got a take out container for my leftovers. Finally got to check this place out and really enjoyed it. Food was made fresh and it was delicious. The green cheese enchiladas had great flavor and the beans and fluffy rice were so yummy. My son got the burrito and pretty much ate it all. If I could offer one suggestion it would be to have some chips in salsa available because I feel like that's a great start to prepare you for fantastic Mexican food. Nice score at Lujos Cocina Mexicana. Located in a strip mall where patrons do not know how to park. The restaurant looks small from the outside and that is because it is small on the inside. You order your meal at the counter and it is delivered to your table. Ordered red and green enchiladas on their house special board with el pastor protein. You can also pick chicken or just cheese. Was not sure what to expect, when the dish arrived I could tell it was special. The dish was served with a small skillet of refried beans and a packed Spanish rice. A flower was growing out of my enchiladas the plate border had dollops of creama. Perfectly seasoned and very tasty. No chips and salsa with this dish. I assume those were extra. The food was great, and I really liked how many vegetarian options there were. It all seemed pretty authentic, and the interior was modern and clean. Service was really slow when I was there, despite there being only one other guest, which is the only reason I'm giving it a 4 star instead of 5. I would prefer to have a server come to the table over a counter service/server come to your table mixed style. From the friendly and helpful staff to the presentation of the food we were already so impressed. The food MY LORD is so fresh, so delicious, and gorgeous! I'm a big fan of presentation and after the one owners Paula told us the story behind this place, I was sold. Mom and pop diner meets high end restaurant. Hidden Gem! Arguably the best Mexican food I've had in AZ. NEW FAVORITE SPOT!!! My wife and I both got wet burritos (one Chicken & one Carne Asada w/red sauce) and they were both full of flavor. The Carne Asada was cooked to perfection and the chicken had just the right amount of juice after being braised and shredded. Their hot sauces have great flavor and if you like spicy, make sure to ask for their hottest. The entire staff was super friendly and made sure all of their customers had everything they needed. Quick update: I did go back because, as I mentioned... it's a quality carne asada burro. But, I still walked out paying just north of $20. Also, they have since posted a sign near the register about the "Carne Asada Surcharge". So if y'all are good with that price point, hit 'em up! **Make sure to ask them for the type of salsa you want (green / red), they only put a single green salsa in my bag, and I wanted red. I had the "Navidad" enchiladas on their secret menu and I couldn't believe how much flavor they were able to fit into such an unassuming dish! I love Mexican food, but this was not your average Mexican food. This was next level! The restaurant is hidden in a strip mall (like so many of the best restaurants I have been to) right between a coffee house and a day spa. If you blink, you will miss it.
