Best pizza in central Florida. The crust is fermented for three days and you can really taste the deep flavor that develops from a long ferment. It also creates a beautiful texture that's light and crispy without being heavy and gummy like a lot of other places. There's no flop on their pies - just a satisfying shatter of the exterior of the dough and a complex easy to chew flavor underneath. On the Detroit pizzas, even with the size of the dough it is not heavy. It has a light and airy texture almost similar to a focaccia bread. The bottom has a beautiful browning from fringing olive oil, and the edges come with the addicting lacy burnt cheese. Their sauce is also very robust. It doesn't have the "we just opened a can and dumped sugar in it" flavor of a lot of places. To me it tastes more savory and like it was cooked down. It's a wonderful contrast to the milky mozzarella and punchy salty grated pecorino or parmasean they finish their pizzas with. Incredible service too. read more

I was so excited to finally have an option besides droopy NY style slices (although they have those too, and they're probably amazing). Recently my wife and I went to Downtown Winter Garden, to have dinner at AJ's Pizza Joint. This is a new restaurant to the area, it's been open for a few months. As soon as we arrived we checked in with the hostess, she told us we had a 20 minute wait. As we waited we looked at the menu that is posted on the wall. I noticed that the restaurant is on the smaller side. The floor has a vast variety of movie posters. They had good music playing through the restaurant. Once the hostess texted us, we were walked to our table. Our server came to us immediately, gave us menus. We decided to order some starters and drinks; For starters we got the *AJ's Garlic Nots (Garlic oil, Grana Padano parmesan, served with marinara) The garlic nots were absolutely delicious. Had a great crunch, the middle was soft and hot. Had a good amount of parmesan and the garlic was flavorful and not too pungent. *Meatball Trio (Beef, pork and veal, with mozza and fresh basil) These meatballs were outstanding. Simply put they were moist and perfect. As far as drinks go, my wife ordered the Frankie V(Peach nectar, amontillado sherry, mint) and later on she ordered the Florida Grown (Prosecco, strawberry, grapefruit, orange cordia) My wife said both drinks were delicious. I ordered the Hot Topic (Grilled pineapple, sake, jalapeño, fresh pressed lime, agave, tajín) and later on I ordered a Sierra Nevada Hazy Little Thing IPA. I loved the Hot Topic grilled pineapple and jalapeno is a great combo. I also love Sierra Nevada Hazy, i couldn't pass it up. We also decided to share a pizza. It was difficult to choose due to everything looking delicious. We decided on a NY Style pizza(Hand tossed and made with signature tomato sauce, shredded mozzarella, finished with Grana padano Parmesan cheese, and garlic oil) Half as a Uncle Roni (Loaded with cupped pepperoni) and the other half as a Supreme New Yorker (Hot calabrese, spicy Italian sausage, classic pepperoni, extra creamy ricotta) I loved both halves of the pizza we ordered. Uncle Roni's pepperoni was crispy and spicy. The Supreme New Yorker, was a symphony of flavor. Everything complements well on this. The dough for the New York style is just the best. Love the garlic oil. Also want to talk about the restroom. It's pretty cool. If you hit a red button on the wall, music and a disco ball will start playing. Check it out when you dine here. The atmosphere reminded me of the small pizza places I grew up with and worked at in Chicago. The selection of pizza was fantastic. I appreciate the slices of pizza, and the variety they provide on a daily basis. And the red sauce! OMG THE RED SAUCE! I would eat it on cardboard if they offered it. So fresh and flavorful! My only recommendations: 1. For the price, I'd like to see more garlic knots. They were really good but only 5 came with the order. For the price, I'd like 8. 2. The menu is what you'd expect from a NY style pizza place but they offer some very unique pizzas. Lots of great choices. They have a weekday lunch special that includes two slices and a beverage. The pizza is very tasty and pairs well with their AJ's Lager. The service was great and we are so glad to have another food option on Plant Street. Sat at the bar with my fiance. 3 TVs to entertain you while you dine. They also have a number of larger party tables as well. The servers were extremely nice and attentive and welcoming. The menu has a good variety of different pies, from NY style, marghareta, Detroit, and one other one. They also have salads, meatballs, and more For the bevies they had a decent selection of beers, wine, and some cocktails made with sake, Prosecco, and a few other low ABV drinks. They do not have liquor, but hey go grab a pie and some beer, and if you are jonesing for the hard stuff just grab a drink at any one of the other bars in the area. We got a NY style pie split between the hot honey, and the supreme. Both were delicious but my lady favored the hot honey style pie. 18" was around $25 not a bad price for a quality pie. The crust was great and had good structure, the ingredients were fresh and you could taste the quality. We also got a Caesar salad to start. The dressing was great! We have pizza Friday always through AJs! I go w/ friends during the week when the kids are at school, etc. Last month when my husband was waiting for pick-up he mentioned a party of 10 on a Saturday that we invited for 2pm lunch, he would be in Asia during this time and wanted to make sure all would run smooth. . West of Orlando, in Winter Garden, AJ's Pizza Joint is serving some amazing za. I've been meaning to try them for a while because they offer a variety of styles of pizza, including New York, Sicilian, and Detroit. When getting a table on a Sunday afternoon the hostess said a table was about a 20 minute wait but we could sit at the bar (which looked full to me) but she pointed out their "pizza bar" which was further back in the restaurant and instead of having the bar and tv backdrop was set up to see their kitchen assembling and baking the pizzas. To a foodie, this was the best seat in the house, and I'd recommend and would prefer sitting there in the future so I can see how the magic is made. The person expediting (which turned out to be JC - the general manager) gave us menus and told us to let him know if we had any questions as soon as we sat down. Our server came to get our drinks and order shortly after. We watched JC quality control (checking for a proper cook and undercarriage) on every pizza that came out of the oven before finishing and sending them out (even sending one or two back when he thought they needed another minute in the oven (serious props for the attention to quality and detail). We got garlic knots and a meatball slider to start. Both were great, but I'm partial to a good homemade meatball (bonus points that I could order just a single slider instead of a set). Our Roni Detroit pizza came out, but these pictures don't do it justice. It was beautiful. Crispy cheese edge, thick but fluffy crust, cupped pepperoni, and thick red sauce spread across the top. Everything about this pizza hits right for its style, melty and crispy cheese, fluffy interior, hearty tomato-forward sauce, and freshly grated parm on top. With the apps, we only at one slice each, but I'm not mad about having leftovers to be able to eat later. While the Detroit-style pies run about $30 each, you could get at least a couple of meals out of a single pizza, especially if you get or have any apps or a salad with it, and even at that, the quality of the food is absolutely worth the price in my opinion. JC chatted with us while very steadily cracking out food the whole time, and the servers were also very nice. We'll absolutely be back and would highly recommend everyone who enjoys good pizza to check them out! Very popular, crowded, loud pizza place in WG. They just built it too small. We had to wait 40 minutes for a table and it took over an hour for food to hit the table. The pizza was excellent. Maybe they should prioritize inside guests to take out, but they were operating over capacity and it showed. Beer wasn't very cold at all. Again, excellent pizza! Not sure worth the experience.
