I called Akamai Appliance because I found Sid so reliable. I had an old kitchen drop in stove. The new stove is bigger. Sid uninstalled the cabinet, first taking off the granite. He had to take the old cabinet to a cabinet maker and remake the cabinet 9" smaller. Sid made all of the arrangements. He cut the granite with a saw and regrouted and caulked the countertop. Service Requested: Washing machine shocks went out and machine was unbalanced. Was skipping spin cycle. Sid called within 20 minutes of the maintenance request going to my property manager. That means he had to have called immediately after receiving the order from my management company...on New Years Eve! Having read many accolades for Syd owner of Akamai, we called Syd and received a prompt response that he was booked for rest of week but will do his best to service on the weekend. Extremely Unprofessional and Disappointing Service (communication/ text issues Read all the 1 stars, they really seem to paint a picture. Read his responses, too. No Aloha.) I rarely write negative reviews, but this experience warrants one. We rent an apartment, and to clarify, we didn't choose Akamai Appliance -- our rental company did. In the past, we've had no complaints. A young man from Akamai Appliance, whether an employee or the owner, was pleasant and did great work when he previously serviced our home (while working on our dishwasher he had to call his boss to ask some questions. I belive his boss was "Sid". Very friendly dude who came out). So, when our rental company scheduled Akamai Appliance to fix our fridge, we were glad to have them back. We initially scheduled an appointment for 10-12 on a Sunday, which worked perfectly for us since we work on Sundays and could adjust our schedule accordingly. However, about 30 minutes before the scheduled time, we received a text stating that the window had changed to 12-2. While not ideal, we adjusted as best as possible, letting them know that due to work, we wouldn't be available between 12:45 and 1:45. I clearly communicated that if they could give me an exact time closer to either 12 or 2, we would do our best to accommodate. After some back-and-forth, we confirmed they would aim for 2 PM. Around 1:15, however, I received a text that they would arrive at 1:45, asking us to have the fridge turned on. I responded, clarifying that the earliest we could be back was hopefully 1:45, and apologized once again for the inconvenience. What followed was an incredibly unprofessional and rude response: "My dude, find somebody else. You ain't the only job I'm trying to help with today and I have a family. I don't even work Saturday and Sundays, but this is my only day I could come and try and help you." I respect anyone working hard and understand that people have personal lives, but we all do. I also work long hours to support my family. We were texting casually up until that point, so my use of "my dude" was meant in the same friendly tone, yet he used it as an excuse to be dismissive and condescending. He changed the schedule on us and then became hostile when we couldn't accommodate his new time. I didn't know his availability, and when we were told Sunday would work, we took them at their word. Even after his unprofessional response, I apologized again for the misunderstanding and offered to move forward if he was still willing to come out. This kind of treatment is completely unacceptable. Everyone has a family and responsibilities, but that doesn't excuse treating customers poorly. Maybe he was having a bad day, but that doesn't justify his attitude. Happy to share the screenshots, as i have with our rental company. If you value professionalism and respect in customer service, I cannot recommend Akamai Appliance. Huge yikes. read more

I'm so thankful that yelp exists because I was able to find a local business with so many positive reviews! :) I noticed our refrigerator started acting wonky a few weeks ago, but didn't think it would get this bad. Our fridge was not cold (even after turning the coldness to the highest level) and our freezer was extra cold!! I also noticed the vent in our fridge side was all backed up with frozen ice... my mom and I couldn't figure out what to do, so we looked on yelp! We found Akamai Appliances and I called at 9am to see if they could come fix our fridge the same day. He asked where I was located and told me he could come same day between 3-5pm. I texted him my address and sent fridge info - model and serial numbers. He came between the 3-5pm frame time he gave and I believe he fixed everything in about 20 mins... it was pretty fast! He had a cool gadget with hot air so he could defrost all the ice that was stuck in our vent (what he was doing in the photo)! He also explained what coldness settings to keep my fridge and freezer at. I have to keep my fridge at the highest setting for a couple of days just so that it'll get fully cold again, then I can turn it down a little. My mom and I are super happy it's all fixed! For the past year I've been having frost issues in my 3 year old refrigerator. The icemaker in our Refrigerator went kaput and we just simply couldn't do without it, so I went to Yelp searching for someone who could repair or replace it. Came across Akamai Appliance because of their excellent reviews, so I gave them a call. My call was routed to a voicemail, so I left a message with my name and number. I swear, less than a minute after I hung up, I received a call back from Sid Yee, owner of Akamai Appliance. He asked me for the make and model number of our fridge and explained how to find it on the inside of the door. I snapped a picture of it and texted it back to him. A few hours later I received a text back from him giving me an estimate of how much the new icemaker would cost and what his labor charge would be. He told us he could do it the very next day, so we accepted. He arrived the next day just as promised and installed the new icemaker in no time, for a very reasonable price. Don't you just marvel at the beautiful shiny appliances sold everywhere, making our kitchen new looking and gourmet meal ready? We do at our house and when those darn codes come up on the panel we can't call for help fast enough. Cd-10.......red alert, our oven won't work. The electronic pad ceased to exist! Okay, enter the model and brand along with the code the search mode....communication error. Your key pad is dead and needs replacement is needed. No problem, the range top can still be used but you're out of luck trying to turn on that oven. Turning to Yelp, called Akamai Appliance and spoke to Sid. Sent a photo of the message/code flashing on the touchpad along with a photo of the ID plate and range front, Sid said he'd call back with the parts and repair/service prices the next day. As promised, the next day I received a text from Sid advising the repair price asking if I wanted him to order...yep I do need that oven. Ten days later Sid texted he had the part and would be over the next day. Hallelujah I was soooo happy. Didn't take him long to disassemble the touch pad and replace it, test it and pronounce it repaired. Works like a champ, I really think it's improved my baking skills. Then he says oh I didn't read the txt well(RED Flag#1). I text him again about 2 hours later to see if he can come earlier. No response for a day. I text again with the same message on the day of service. No Response(RED Flag #2). My scheduled time was set at 2-4 pm. I call to check at 3:30 and his response was oh hmm let me text you back. He text me that he is over booked and if he can come tomorrow. But he's not sure if he's going to work or not! I'm done As someone whom works in the service industry as well. We treat all of our customers with respect and let them know up front if we can or cannot do the job. Our family has been in business for 50 years so far. And still going strong. Whom ever is willing to read this message, don't waste your time. Look for a more reliable tech to repair your appliances. The lowest score I could give was one star. This company is MVP of the year! Our restaurant's gas stove/range was doused by a sprinkler and stopped working. We were desperate for anyone to help us but on a weeknight, after 6PM, it was hard to get a hold of anyone. Fortunately, Akamai Appliance answered and Sid (I believe) helped us diagnose the problem initially. While he wasn't able to come out that night, he said the next day he could come out, tentatively. I followed up with him the next day and he came out around 2PM. He got a replacement part from City Mill only to find out it didn't fit. So he went to Home Depot and got the correct part. After that, it worked! Lifesaver - for real! He went above and beyond service we never expected! After speaking to all the other appliance repair companies that required all this BS about the stove and appliance and blah blah blah, I am so grateful that Sid did it without any trouble. Another update: My washer may just be old and so it may have had a temporary clog from built up lint that blocked a valve. Sid took the time to explain what can happen, so we can test out and observe the washer cycle and see that the problem was solved. It appears to work fine now. He helped to put the panels together better than the last repairman had done a sloppy job. If that's not all, his charge was less than I expected from the billing he estimated after the first job. Awesome customer service! Called to ask them to repair my old Kenmore dishwasher that had buttons blinking and the reset function disabled. They were great to give honest advice that the repair would cost close to buying a new one so I might as well skip trying to get it fixed.
