A friend and I ordered both the tantan and tonkotsu ramen, as well as some gyoza. The gyoza were fine, with a tasty dipping sauce, but the ramen was great for the Tri Cities! I preferred the spicy tantan broth while my friend preferred the tonkotsu. Both had fresh, yummy toppings with PLENTY of noodles and perfectly cooked eggs. I would definitely get ramen from here again! I only wish they had more varieties! read more

Every city and every town offers sushi but they are not equal. It is not cheap to order quality sushi and have it prepared by a skilled sushi chef. Aki offers one of the freshest and best quality sushis I've ever tried all over the country and Vancouver, BC. The selections and variety are on par with Kashiba in downtown Seattle. I've enjoyed the omakase at Kashiba and spent over a hundred dollars per person and can say I am equally satisfied eating here. It is very rare to be able to find a sushi restaurant that offers black (Spanish) and Japanese red snapper, geoduck, wild Alaskan king salmon, blue fin tuna, otoro, chutoro, monkfish liver, kanpachi (amberjack), halibut, king mackerel (sawara), sweet shrimp (amaebi) and more. Yes, I have tried all of them and every one of them is exquisite in flavor. Their sushi chefs are skilled, helpful and generous. They are known to give customers free sushi to try while waiting for their order. One huge praise, I've never had their sushi where I had to pull out sinewy pieces from the fish like other restaurants in TC. That is a pet peeve of mine. Do not waste your money here. We ordered takeout. I was craving chicken teriyaki, and Aki had good reviews. I never leave reviews, but this was DISGUSTING. The chicken was completely over-cooked white meat, hardly any flavor, hard to chew, with some seemingly non-toasted sesame seeds sprinkled over the top. It didn't taste like teriyaki AT ALL, and they didn't include any extra sauce (except for two tiny packets of soy sauce). The crispy roll I ordered was marginal, but I've had much better at Sushi Ya. The side of veggies I ordered to go with my teriyaki was probably the best thing out of the whole meal. A complete waste of $45. The service keeps getting worse every time I return. Simple inquires are met with hostility and dishonesty. I simple asked which are the freshest cut and when did they arrive. The waiters here have zero integrity or knowledge. It's entertaining to say the least coming from the male waiters here. They simply do not care. Don't get me wrong, the sushi is pretty good. The service has been going downhill since i've started going here. I was a little upset this last time i went in for lunch on Friday 10/26/2018. First I asked if I could sit at a table not wedged between to other parties as there were plenty of tables. I was told they needed to save those for larger parties yet no one else came in. After this we had our waters refilled plenty of times before our food came. After that we didn't see anyone again until it was time to pay. Sometimes when i have gone we are brought complimentary edamame, sometimes not. The teriyaki chicken my dad ordered was the worst teriyaki that he's had in a long time, he didn't want to complain though. He couldn't even finish it. Vegetarian rolls are awesome here. We tried the Buddha roll and it was delicious. The sweet potato works great with all the other fresh flavors. Udon noodles had a sweet and tangy flavor which made them delicious as well. The atmosphere is also great. Cool urban vibe on the inside which is certainly unexpected. The staff is super friendly. It feels like you are being transported to a new location when you step in the door. I highly recommend the vegetarian rolls. Writing Yelp reviews hungry is like going to the grocery store hungry. Impressed immediately with the sushi chefs in uniforms and hats along with what I call modern sushi bar ambiance. I was seated at the bar(my request) and given a very nice detailed menu on a clipboard. I ordered hamachi, albacore, uni and king salmon (wild) nigiri style. Uni was excellent and the hamachi a little mild . King salmon was excellent! I also found the rice to be moist sweet and again excellent! I made a special trip (I live over an hour away) on my vacation for their Omakase experience. I unfortunately was told they were not doing Omakase that day. I was very disappointed and ordered something else. Their sushi is the best in central Washington and you have to come when they open to get a seat. It's that popular and good! I was very disappointed that I made a special trip in vain when I came on a day they were not doing Omakase. We met up with some friends who wanted to try Aki Sushi. Pulled up, it's in a small strip plaza and not well identified but OMG what a gem! The place is nicely decorated and feels clean, modern and fun to be in, tables are comfortable. we ordered a variety of sushi, sashimi and nigiri- the plates that came out were beautifully prepared and amazingly fresh and delicious. This IS the sushi place we've been waiting for in the TC. They not only have the "usual" rolls but also a variety of updated twists that are refreshing to see. We were all extremely happy with our choices and the staff was friendly, knowledgeable and attentive. I will be going regularly and I highly recommend anyone looking for a good sushi spot check it out! read more

Aki Sushi was open, and well-reviewed, and nearby, and we were happy to give it a try. Glad we did - fresh fish, perfect sushi rice - my compliments to the Sushi Chef! There has been lots of buzz about Aki Sushi and I can say it is well deserved. If you've read some of my reviews, you know I'm picky about sushi; I've made it, I've eaten lots of it in lots of different cities and I know what decent sushi should taste like and Aki delivers decent sushi! I went there for lunch with my wife, oldest daughter and her friend and found a table pretty quickly in the small restaurant (occupancy now up to 49 from 38!!). Service was prompt and we were served some edamame appetizers to start. I ordered the kitchen and sushi combo - Saba Shioyaki ( grilled mackerel) and spicy salmon roll with miso soups. I also ordered a Rainbow roll. I figured this would tell me how well their kitchen and sushi chefs worked. It is very reasonable with the combo $11 and the roll $8.50. My wife ordered the chicken teriyaki while the others ordered the kitchen/sushi combo and some fried sushi. The sushi came out super fast. Now sushi is all about the rice and their rice is very good IMHO. It's the right type, seasoned very well with a sweetish-vinegary taste and was at room temperature. The spicy salmon roll was definitely spicy with a buttery tasting salmon. The Rainbow roll was also very good with very fresh fish and avocado on it. Yummy! The saba shioyaki came out later and was a single largish fillet of mackerel on a bed of mixed greens with a side of rice and ponzu sauce. Oddly, it had a single slice of radish vice some traditional daikon. It has a crispy outside with juicy center. Slightly salty, it went pretty well with the lemony ponzu sauce. One note, the rice was a different kind than is served with the sushi. The sushi was a short grain, sushi rice while the mackerel has a long grain rice. That is attention to detail! My wife had a comment on her teriyaki, it was a pretty small portion even for a lunch. Other sushi places have larger teriyaki dishes and even bento plates at the same or similar prices as Aki. She said the teriyaki was very good. Overall, a very good sushi meal at very reasonable prices. It is now my favorite sushi place in the tri-cities. It's pretty small so expect a wait. read more
