Disclaimer: I am a vegetarian, so I did not have any fish and can't speak to its quality. That being said, I went to Aki Sushi last night for my boyfriend's birthday. It was very busy, so the service was pretty slow at first as far as taking our order and bringing us drinks. When I ordered from the "veggie" section of the menu, I had to ask for a sauce that was vegetarian since most of the veggie rolls had eel sauce. So, if you're vegetarian, read the menu carefully, as most of the veggie rolls come with eel sauce! I asked the waitress if there was a vegetarian sauce that I could substitute, and all they had was a sweet chili sauce. For appetizers, I got the yam tempura and my boyfriend got the gyoza, which came out quickly. The yams, which came with soy sauce, were kind of bland, but my boyfriend liked his gyoza and it ended up being a lot of food. For dinner, I got the Vege-lover roll with sweet chili sauce and my boyfriend got the Fire Starter roll which had spicy raw tuna. Again, tons of food and it was very,very good. The check after the 10% discount for checking in on Facebook was $41 and change, which is very reasonable considering we also ordered two 12 oz Sapporos and got a lot of food. Overall, I give it 4 stars since the service was kind of slow to start (which I think will get better with time) and I wish they had more vegetarian sauces for the veggie rolls. Final note, the wait staff was super, super nice! Even the cooks said bye as we left! read more

I felt it was important to follow up my initial review of 5 stars with this update. This was the best food we had ever had and it was right around the corner in our own neighborhood! We were hooked...I think we went 3 to 4 times a week and we raved so much that our family bought us a gift certificate to Aki Sushi. We were hooked and addicted. Unfortunately, a few months have passed and we went back and unknowingly purchased several dishes that were inedible. It was sad and yet understandable. I always wondered how quality fresh specialty dishes were making their way here and getting eaten and ordered on time. We loved getting served specialty items, not on the menu, and being surprised with the art and flavors. Quality has ceased and our favorite place is no longer - but if things change, I hope they reach out - because we will be the first at the door every night. read more

First time eating here....great atmosphere and friendly staff. Was able to watch them make our food (take out) and was very impressed with the attention to detail of the chef. I don't understand why everyone loves this place. I enjoyed the ambiance and decorations, but I was very disappointed with the sushi rolls. I ordered around seven different rolls with my family. For every single roll, the rice kept falling off of the seaweed. I could barely pick up each piece of sushi with my chopsticks without it falling apart. This was very irritating. The poke was okay, but not made with sesame oil which is the most delicious way, it had lots of onions and cucumber in it, which was overpowering the tuna flavor. Personally，I don't like this restaurant. I will give credit to the appearance of the food there, but the taste is really not authentic. The material they used taste not fresh at all. Owner of the restaurant is not a Japanese either. The waiters there was not nice and they started to treat customers badly after some tables didn't give their expecting tips. Despite the ignorance of the people of Tri Cities, who kill everything that is progressive, new and actually of good quality, a DIAMOND named Aki Sushi emerges and saves us all who understand what the rest of the world calls sushi! For a while, the Tri Cities left my husband and I starved for good quality seafood and sushi. Endless versions of a Cali roll, deep fried and covered in a highlighter colored sauce is not our idea of sushi... Not to mention how astounded we were to find this fact in a city so near to the abundant fishing port that is Seattle, which services the entire nation (except for it's estranged neighbor Tri Cities, it seems). The place offers some of the freshest, highest quality sushi I have ever had... And coming from a city girl, that says a lot! Their prices are great and their hospitality is amazing! Some of the kindest service people we have yet encountered. I definitely recommending putting your fate in chef and ordering the Omakase, which allows the chef creative license to surprise the guest with the fish of his choice.
