This review is long overdue. I saw Dr. Aki ~10-13+ years ago when I got braces in high school. He is a kind doctor who takes the time to create the best treatment plan for you. He is a kind man who truly cares about his patience and their health. His staff was/is also very friendly and they do try to remember personal things about you to make the visits a little more warm. I also appreciated all the other small things they did for their kid patients such as monthly games, for example guessing how many balls were in a jar. There were various things you could win, like movie tickets. At least you would leave the office each time with some hope that you could potentially win a prize even as your teeth are sore from your braces being tightened. With these added treats, you can tell Dr. Aki and his staff cared about the overall experience. I loved my end results and anyone who had braces would say it's worth the pain, inconvenience, and $$$. However, I did wish I was more consistent with wearing my retainers every night the years right after coming off braces. My teeth have definitely shifted a bit but they are still in great shape! I've received compliments from my dentist and dentist friends that he did a good job. I saw Dr. Aki recently just to do a quick check-in with my retainers and mouth guard situation. Thankfully my teeth are still looking good! I'm also glad to see that he is still in business despite the rough year coming out of the pandemic. My experience at Dr. Aki's office, from consultation to retainer checks, were quick, painless, and extremely positive. In terms of braces (and perhaps other things) I was a late bloomer. I was 17 when I had my first consultation, so when all of my friends were being freed from their wires, I was getting strapped in. Despite my reluctance, Dr. Aki and his staff were incredibly friendly and professional, and made it a point to make me feel as comfortable and at ease as possible. The office is extremely clean and kid-friendly, and more than once I shamelessly pushed a kid off the game consul they have set up in the waiting room. They made no promises they couldn't keep, and I got my braces on (and off!) without any incident. If you're thinking about (or just have to) get braces, I highly recommend this office. read more

I HIGHLY RECOMMEND DR. AKI. He is one of the few doctors I have which I actually enjoy seeing. Dr. Aki was one of two orthodontists which I first saw when deciding who to go to for the very important teenage teeth straightening brace face days. Dr. Aki went with a much simpler route, not having to have braces on multiple times, but all in one shot. He made the process as comfortable and painless as possible. I've been braceless for 6 years now and my teeth are still as straight as ever. Not only is Dr. Aki amazing at what he does, but he's also one of the most personable friendly people around. Like I said I've been without braces for years now, yet for each maintenance appointment (now only once a year) he's always interested in what I've been doing with my life since the last time I've seen him just as if I was still a patient there. Came here for braces in 2007/2008? Got them off 2010. Dr. Aki and his team are amazing! They treat you like family and I'm pretty sure like 60% of Union City kids and adults go here to get braces and retainers. My sister got braces around 2015/2016? She's almost done but you definitely can see amazing results coming along! My daughter MOST DEFINITELY will need braces when she's older and we'll be back here! read more

Dr Aki is without a doubt one of the best, most honest orthodontist out there. He has treated many members of my family, including my brother as he guided him through a double jaw surgery. Most recently, Dr Aki has helped me with my 13 year olds braces. I would say he is conservative but acts with the most up to date knowledge. On top of his experience and honesty Dr Aki is funny, caring, genuine and really connects with his patients. I wouldn't travel from Pleasanton to Hayward if he wasn't the best. read more

By far the most attentive, caring, and friendliest staff ever! I only have nothing but the best to say about this practice. I've been seeing Dr. Aki since I was in middle school and still to this day. Which I am now in College. It is a great feeling to know that they want to follow up, even after having my braces off. It shows that they care about their patients and are willing to help solve any concerning issues. Just walking into their offices, the entire staff knows you by name! The staff are incredibly polite and are always asking about how you are doing. The office always has some sort of engaging activity/game which can win you some sweet prizes. My child is a patient at Dr. Aki's office. Dr. Aki is great and all but as much as I want to like him, it's always an inconvenience to see him. He's closed on weekends, doesn't see patients on Friday's and is only available after 2 pm on certain days. I think the best ability is availability and to be honest, it just seems like he's never available on days or times that's convenient for the average working parent. Most of his patients are young teens so good luck trying to book an appointment after school. I often find myself having to book a month in advance to get an appointment that's not convenient for myself or my child (it's a take it or leave it deal). My child's brackets and or wires are always breaking or coming off and it's a real hassle to schedule an appointment just to get that fixed. I often find myself bringing my child in 2-3 times a month for broken brackets. Again, I'm sure Dr. Aki is a great orthodontist. My child's teeth seem to be ok but it's really frustrating having to deal with his availability. read more

Dr. Aki and his office have been an instrumental part of my orthodontic experience. I've been with Dr. Aki and his office for much longer than I should have, due to my own fault's, and they still treated me with respect even with the numerous amount of inconveniences. Such as giving me a discount for a new retainer because my teeth had moved during one of my college summer vacations. I have nothing but positive things to say about my experience here. Dr. Aki and everyone that works there are amazing. They know you by name and care to get to know you. The office itself is very clean and inviting. When the waiting room is packed, you never wait longer than 10-15 minutes. If you come early, you can get seen earlier than your scheduled appointment time. From consultation, to adjustments & wire tightenings, to the yearly retainer checks, I don't have anything bad or negative to say about this place. I would say the last appointment when they see you for the last time is kind of sad though; it almost feels like a small graduation. I highly recommend this practice. read more

Dr. Aki is sort of a family orthodontist. He helped my mother during her college years and then he fixed my brothers and mine! The environment in his office is comforting and friendly. The staff are some of the nicest people. The way they schedule patients is really efficient and the wait time isn't something I worry about. Even after my braces were off, Dr. Aki would check up on my retainers and we found that my bottom ones were piercing my gums to bleed on occasions. So then Dr. Aki fixed it by giving me an different type of retainers. He is an experienced orthodontist and I highly recommend him! Dr. Todd Aki, as well as his staff, are the epitome of professionalism! Both of my daughters had their braces put on by Dr. Aki and because of the wonderful outcome in both cases, I have referred many of my friends to his office.
