Stumbled upon Akinori one day and we had a great lunch! The chirashi was very fresh and the dry aged kanpachi yuzu truffle oil was delicious! They dry age alot of their fish so it gives it a different texture and taste. Our waitress was super friendly and hope to come back soon to try their omakase. There's also plenty of street parking right outside the restaurant.

One of my go to sushi spots when Kisen, Shinkai or Masamitsu are too busy! My some of my friends say this is a cute date spot. But I enjoy going to the sushi bar and drinking my sake with'em and having the sushi snack here in my peace time. On the North bound side of Colorado Blvd right next to this psychic shop. Closest cross streets are Colorado Blvd & Rosemead. Cute little sushi shop. I am impressed with their food and service though! It's a two way street on Colorado but from my personal experience you can find street parking right in front of the shop no problem. One door is both the entrance and exit so it might feel a bit cramped at first and if they don't greet you and seem busy.. well accept that fact that they are BUSY AF! That's right! Call ahead and see if you can reserve a table. They only have between one to three sushi chefs and one server so patience is necessary here. Like I said.. cute spot inside! Not much space but it is clean and simple. Not many tables, small sushi bar and restrooms back in the hall. You will be passing their aging fish machine in the little hall. Food? Why yes, it is bomb! AND fresh! Think Jack in the Box.. they don't make it until you order it! Haha Well they also special in dry aged sushi in house so some of the raw fish you will be getting won't have that fishy taste and it will be more buttery, more firm and less chewy! Not sure if I explained that right :P They started dry aging about a year ago. It's one of the few spots I know that have warm rice when you order the sushi. Service! When they have time you will get your usual restaurant service. Being greeted, asked for drinks, drinks dropped off, asked for ur order & receiving. All the workers here are simply nice and friendly! We've driven by Akinori many times and finally decided to try it. It's a very small space with about five bar seats and a handful of two-top tables. I wouldn't recommend it for large groups, four people is probably the max. We visited on a weekday for lunch and were seated right away. The two of us shared the agedashi tofu, Brussels sprouts, fresh mountain roll, salmon sampler, and a negitoro roll. To be honest, the portions felt quite small, or maybe we're just big eaters? Because we finished everything almost immediately. We could've easily eaten a second round, but it would have been way too pricey. Service was friendly and parking is street-only. We couldn't figure out what language the workers were speaking, but definitely not Japanese. Overall, the experience was fine but not particularly memorable.

High quality sushi bar that's been open less than 2 years. Akinori has dry aged fish which like beef, is fish with reduced moisture that brings out the flavor of the fish. They have different cuts of tuna which they have aged. We had Dry Aged Toro and ChuToro, which were buttery smooth. Also had Sear Albacore and the Akinori Sushi Roll. We also liked the Miso Cod Dinner and Agedashi Tofu, their version of the latter is less battered than other places. Good service from Quon who was the one server in the restaurant. Sushi bar has room for 10+ diners. Street parking only. Can be pricy depending on what you order.

Great service and sushi was delicious. Trick or treat roll was really good and had a little kick to it. Fried vegetable tempura was also done really well with a good variety. The sashimi combo was good and it came with soup, salad and rice. Overall good place.

Wow, I randomly found this place on yelp and I am so thankful I did because my friend and I had the most awesome lunch today on a Friday around 3 PM. It's a very small petite restaurant very cozy but the fish quality really blew my mind !!! We started off with a salmon carpaccio and a dry aged kanpachi with Yuzu !!! These were so beautiful plated and opposite in flavor profile, but so delicious. The bluefin sampler is out of this world!! Every bite melts in your mouth!!! I will come back just for this! We sat at the bar and the sushi chef just gave us recommendations and we would order through him! It was really lovely I highly recommend this place I am definitely coming back! What a gem! 10/10

Akinori is my favorite Japanese sushi store if you are craving, oh trust me this is the place to visit. You will enjoy some of the freshness and more satisfying quality dry aged fish. This place is not too crowded lunch dinner weekend weekdays and that one you know what you to do. Come check out and support local small business to keep their great food running

Akinori is a small, cozy store front on a not too busy section of Colorado Boulevard just east of Rosemead Boulevard with street parking. Interior is a clean Japanese minimalist style that provides a serene appearing environment. Sushi bar and small tables that can be put together for a 6-8 person group. Huge selection of Californicized Sushi rolls with the usual suspects of Sriracha, mayonnaise, "eel sauce ". But there is a good selection of traditional Japanese Èdo Maè Nigiri hand molded Sushi and Sashimi sliced seafood. There are cooked foods like Teri Yaki's, Miso marinated Black Cod. The standard Japanese apps are also cooked for those who must have everything irradiated by infrared. 1) Calamari Fritti: Fried rings of squid and tentacles are thinly battered in corn starch. Really light crispy crust surrounds the delicate, lightly ocean sweet chewy flesh. 2) Ika Nigiri Sushi: The slice of white flesh Squid is an artistic exercise in Muki Mono, art of Japanese food carving. It is cut and feathered to look like frilly flower petals. Dark pink, ornamental Shiso flowers which are unusual to find in late winter contrasts to the whiteness of the squid along with a touch of green Yuzu Koshō paste made from fermented, salted Yuzu citrus zest & piquant green chiles. The squid has overall very excellent knife skills, but the squid itself was a bit mushy and lacked Hari, a toned, muscular firmness. Perhaps a short salt brine would have firmed up the squid. Shari, Japanese rice vinegar sprinkled cooked rice, was competently done. 3) Tonkatsu: Ton refers to pork. Katsu refers to Cutlet. The thick slice of pork is breaded with Japanese Panko to achieve excellent crunchiness. Pork is a bit fatty to add richness. Sweet porcine meat that will satisfy carnivores. Nice touch was placing a metal net under the Tonkatsu so the bottom of the Tonkatsu can breath out moisture without getting the crust soggy. Accompanying shredded Daikon radish provides a refreshing, cool, watery cleansing of the palate. Salad, Japanese Cucumber and yellow Daikon pickles, white steamed rice rounds out this pleasing all in one set meal. Akinori may not be the best that L.A. has to offer, but it is a great neighborhood find. There is something for everyone. I was particularly impressed with my Tonkatsu. 4- stars

This place was absolutely yummy sushi and sashimi. I hope they stay around. The spider roll was so yummy and delicate. The eel roll was simple it yummy yum yum. The salmon belly sashimi as off the chart. Flavor and texture was so good. They have really good if you're looking for a bargain. They had a roll I am sorry I don't remember the name of it but it was like spicy crab with salmon on the top with some delicious sauce. See my photos.

We've been to Akinori many times, and honestly, I was a little hesitant to post a review -- only because I didn't want this place to get too popular that we'd have trouble getting seats! But this restaurant truly deserves recognition. This sushi spot is absolutely amazing -- they serve some of the freshest fish for both sushi and sashimi, and everything is always beautifully prepared and presented. The restaurant is spotless, which makes the dining experience even more enjoyable. We actually stumbled upon Akinori earlier this year since we live nearby and thought, "Why not try it? It's just a stone's throw away." Ever since that first visit, we've been back many times and have enjoyed every single experience. Their sushi always looks incredible, tastes even better, and never has that overly "fishy" smell or taste -- you can tell it's top quality. There are too many great dishes to name because we've tried so many, and all have been consistently excellent. Food on pricier end but I suppose thats how all sushi places are. Most of the food tasted good though. The pork have some fat so its not just all dry. Maybe sashimi would be better next time rather than rolls.

10000% yes! The vibe, the staff, the food. A very small a cozy sushi place that gives Japanese vibes. There's plenty of street parking. You know they take their time with their rolls because it does take sometime for them to come out but they are worth the wait! We had the OMG roll which was phenomenal, fresh mountain roll and the 210 roll. I'll be dreaming about this place until my next visit.

We went on a whim to this cute hidden spot off Colorado. The outside is nicely decorated as well as the indoors. We were welcomed on a Sunday at "linner" time and it was quiet and lovely. Later, more customers arrived and sat at the sushi bar and near the windows. Appetizers such as the cucumber salad (simple but yummy) and the chicken karaage were all delicious! The regular edamame was fine. We ordered the sashimi combo and the 210 roll-- all lovely portions. Clean and succinct services throughout our time there! Highly recommend and the rates were decent!

This place really pleasantly surprised me. It's a small, clean, intimate space, great atmosphere for a relaxed, casual night out. The fish is really fresh, and the rolls are interesting/creative! Also the service is very welcoming. A bit more expensive than your average sushi spot, but it's worth it to not have subpar fish, and we ordered multiple rolls + dessert. Had lunch here today. Service and food were great. Had the Katsu. It was very crispy and tender. Also had the OMG roll also very delicious. I'm a fisherman so I consider myself a fish snob because I really know fresh. For a Sunday, the sushi was very good. Will be coming back here again as a regular. read more

As another reviewer mentioned, thai chefs and thai rice served here -- understandable since Japanese rice price doubled this year -- but they charge premium sushi prices so this will be merited accordingly on such assessments. Amateurs' levels of su-meshi making. Instead of waiting for the rice and vinegar to cooldown and ferment together in a hangiri bowl, it is made on the spot in room temperature in a aluminum pan then served right away. Initiate levels of knife work on fishes as the cuts are disproportionate and portions are smaller. The thai rice mentioned above does not have adequate holding strength and pieces from the rolls are falling apart as plates are prepared. +1 for fresh ingredients and +1 for plate assortment. This would be Five stars for the inexperienced tourists. read more

I highly recommend this place!!!! Everything was delicious!!!! I have to say I was not disappointed at all. Food itself was pretty good, the fish tasted fresh and prices were reasonable. Dessert was amazing. The staffs were very polite and attentive. Akinori sushi is relatively new, but definitely a favorite, not only for the great value but for the light and friendly service, and excellent taste. Worth a shot!!!! Just checking out the new spot in town. AKINORI Sushi is superb, the fish is so fresh, ordered the Omakase sushi set and you would not disappointed. Their appetizers are so good as well, I would recommend the baked mussels and spicy garlic edamame ( really good for starters). If you do not eat raw fish the chicken teriyaki is another option for you, the marinated Chicken is super delicious. Staffs are so nice and attentive. Also, the restaurant makes you feel warm and cozy. I would recommend this place!! read more

So happy to have sushi place close by. Everything was Fresh and delicious . Quality of fish was great ! We tried the # 210 roll, Akinori roll, the red snapper sushi , and the seabass with miso. This is a small sushi restaurant that opened in late 2024. Not all the dishes are traditional Japanese. I still enjoyed their spin on some of the dishes, like marinated salmon roe on the chawanmushi (savory steamed egg custard). I will probably go many more times to figure out which dishes I like. The servers are friendly. It's good food for a reasonable price. read more

This is my new favorite restaurant. The sushi is the best I've had in all of LA hands down. Extremely fresh sushi, absolutely delicious, incredibly kind and attentive service, and lovely relaxing atmosphere. We live 40 minutes away and plan to come here at least a few times a month. oh. my. goodness. the rainbow roll is easily the best i've ever had!! the fish was so perfectly tender and just perfection. I'm not someone super picky about raw fish, but i definitely appreciate a clean, tender cut. The portions are surprisingly large and the roll I got alone was filling. The staff greeted me when I entered and they made my order fast within 20 minutes of ordering. Service was great! read more

We stopped in for a late lunch and learned that the restaurant had only been open for a week. It's a very spartan clean look that is small and intimate. The staff was very friendly and attentive. Given the recent opening they seem to be interested in getting everything right. The menu was well developed with proper offerings to be expected from a sushi restaurant. We ordered a number of appetizers to begin (tuna collar, fried dumplings , tuna on crispy rice, shishito peppers, spicy edamame). For entrees we had miso cod, sushi, and a few rolls. Everything that was ordered was super fresh, well prepared, and nicely presented. We will from time to time take a drive there again to have a great meal. read more

First, and foremost, the fish is fresh. The presentation was great and what you would expect from 5 star establishment. The service was very good and prompt. Being it is a small and new restaurant, there was no wait and we got our food quickly. We came in with a recommendation by our neighbor to try the salmon skin salad and it did not disappoint. The skins were crisp and added balanced soft greens. The chicken kaarage, was not oily and crispy as well. I suspect, they used an air fryer which would explain this. Overall, this definitely deserves the highest ratings! read more

Sucks that we're moving to WA state and just found this place. Sushi has sucked since COVID, which is understandable given the uncertainties of the economy and increase in costs. It's hard to find good quality fish. This place has really delicious fish. The tuna was nicely aged, but tasted fresh, rich and flavorful. We had the 7-piece omakase. Everything was delicious. They had a truffle piece that was so tender and had that nice earthy umami from the truffle oil. All of the fish was perfectly delicious. Awesome customer service. Our waitress was so nice and warm. She was genuinely friendly to our kids. I would come regularly if we weren't moving. Sushi sucks where I currently live (Glendale). read more

Went here for an early meal the second time in recent weeks. My Mix Sashimi was glorious - fresh and thickly cut, with a buttery texture. Our vegetable tempura was out of this world - served hot with just the right crunch. The cucumber salad was refreshing. My husband's salmon hand roll was "like a meal", with wonderful crunchy bits of skin placed inside the roll. The crab sushi roll was perfection. And the hot green tea was delicious. Wonderful service, beautiful dishes and ambiance, friendly staff, easy parking (at 5:00pm anyway). You'll get a table right away if you're early like us. read more

First time trying this place. I know they have only been around for a few weeks but everything was so good, fish was very fresh. There wasn't anything that I didn't like. The staff were so friendly and had great recommendations. I will definitely be back. I'm glad I live so close. read more

Wanted to check this new place out since we were so close and they are offering 10% during this soft opening. Majority of chef/workers and customers while we were there do seem to be Thai but chirashi and sashimi set we had were fresh and good quality. I do wish the chirashi had a little more rice just to have enough to eat with the fish. Prices do seem higher for the area so not sure if we would regularly come unless they implemented either lunch specials or happy hour times like the others in the area. read more

The servers were very attentive and even cleared plates very quickly that were in our way. My husband works down the street and I am so glad we took a leap of faith and tried a new sushi spot!

The soup wasn't really my taste, but it did taste warm and nourishing. I got the Daily Combo Special which comes with an Omelet Curry Rice, Tonkatsu or Chicken Katsu and an iced lemon tea or soda. It also comes with a side salad. The katsu itself was decent, but the omelet egg is not seasoned at all. It really needs to curry sauce to go with it. Overall, not bad. Probably closer to 3.5 stars?

The food was substandard. In So Cal, we have tons of choices for this sort of food and desserts. We made the trip to Pasadena because of our experience with Nana's in Hawaii. After the ordering process, the 4 desserts we ordered took a very long time to prepare. Our situation was not unique. Many people before and after us had long faces and watched as others finally got their food. We had two lattes, a matcha soft serve and a parfait. All but soft serve were overflowing and dripping out of their cups/glasses as soon as we touched them. Despite the lattes chocolate syrups, milk and whipped cream - they somehow managed to be watery and lack taste. As for the hojicha parfait, the design of the glass was not user friendly. They are tall and narrow. Because everything was packed too tightly, it was impossible to get a spoon into the glass without things coming out of it. It was a chore and unpleasurable. I understand that using cereal is a thing for these desserts. IMO this is a very cheap and low end ingredient for something with a perceived elevated experience as Nana's tries to present. I don't believe Nana's in Hawaii had glasses, just plastic cups, so having cereal in my dessert that came in a plastic cup really didn't phase me, but with all that cereal pouring out of the glass cup as I tried to get the contents inside that tiny glass was a really frustrating experience. It just didn't add-up. It made no sense what was happening. The parfait had one small scoop of hojicha and the majority of the glass was full of plain soft serve. As I said, in So Cal we have so, so many choices. What is the point of coming to this place for vanilla soft serve? We will not be back - very disappointing. My wife and I grew up in the area, so I understand that the buildings are old, but Nana's was a new build at the time of this writing, and it looked like it had been there for a decade. I understand that there are things that can't be done about the building, but I did expect more from the interior. As the sun was blasting in my kid's faces, I noticed there were no shades. I also noticed they didn't clean their windows! Because of the sun blaring in their eyes, I then noticed the lack of finish in the window sills... I heard this was a flagship store, but sorta seems like a neglected franchise.

Lean in to what their specials are. Both dishes were amazing. The Panda Inn Special featured large plump bites of lobster, chicken, and shrimp, with a medley of vegetables and smaller pieces of pork. The Panda Beef was shockingly amazing with crisp and flavorful slices of beef. We finished up dinner with Chocolate Lava Cake and the Warm Rice Pudding, the latter of which is also made in house. Both were a very great end to the dinner. Other notes that were very appreciated: - the checkbook and how nice it looked -they took the parking ticket with the check so we didn't have to go validate it ourselves - white rice is free? - the bar had an automatic wine glass shiner that was fun to look at - take out bag has a very luxury feel to it
