One of my go-to's! Spicy tuna tempura never fails here. The service is great and I highly recommend the hand rolls, especially the salmon skin! More reviews @eatingw3j !

The sashimi was so fresh and tasty. The blue crab don was a good deal and creamy. The abalone special was unique and something I never saw before. The presentation is good and ambience nice .

Came here for lunch and it was packed, which is always a good sign. We ordered the Maki Omakase to try a bit of everything, and it was easily the highlight of the meal. The assortment included sashimi, oysters, shrimp, and uni. It was beautifully presented and everything was fresh with melt in your mouth texture. We also tried a couple rolls, which were well-balanced and packed with flavor. The surprise was the KBBQ ribs from the bento which was super tender and flavorful. Great, friendly service despite how busy it was. A great neighborhood sushi spot that I'd definitely come back to.

We arrived as a party of 2 on a Saturday afternoon and was seated promptly. The dragon roll was phenomenal, oversized and amazingly seasoned, and the tuna roll was an enjoyable classic as well. The combination set was the only lackluster meal in this set (compared to the roll).

I loved everything here, from the decor to the sushi to the service. The Kimi Sashimi was a beautiful dish with very fresh fish, simply prepared and simply delicious. We also split an order of the seafood yakisoba, which was also very tasty and a large portion for the price. We'll be back.

Fresh sashimi, huge portion for rolls and hot dishes, friendly service. We got the Arcadia roll, mango roll, seafood yakisoba, sashimi, and California salad

i came here not expecting much since it's a small, cozy neighborhood spot, but i was actually really surprised by the quality everything looked super clean and the presentation was honestly really pretty -- you can tell they care about what they're serving the fish was fresh with thick cuts, and we tried a variety of nigiri including uni, ikura, and salmon that all tasted really solid one of my favorite parts was the sweet shrimp -- they fry the head so you get that crispy, savory bite after which was so good the sashimi bowl was also stacked and didn't feel skimpy at all, and the tempura was light, crispy, and not oily for the quality, the pricing is actually really reasonable which makes it even more worth it overall, this is one of those lowkey spots you come back to when you just want good, reliable sushi without all the hype

The restaurant staff was very welcoming, and the food was very good! The quality of the fish was exceptional and fresh.

Been a while since I've been here for lunch. Ordered the Lunch Bento (Shrimp & Veggie Tempura and 6 pieces sashimi) and M&S Special Roll. Everything was scrumptious and filling. The peanut dressing is the best one for the salad. Their M&S special roll never disappoints, still the same flavor and portion. Nice and quick service. It was kinda busy cuz it was their lunch special time.

I honestly was surprised at the quality of sashimi I got for $35 with the Kimi Sashimi. The freshness and quality of fish was without doubt but I really enjoyed the scoring and kiazami wasabi for the texture differences and tastes. The chutoro was really amazing as was the salmon belly. I was expecting the salmon but not the chutoro. Fish was great! Service was also great.

You're looking for a perfect sushi night out with some amazing deals and top quality sushi, Maki and sushi has got to on your radar. Service was kind and helpful and checked on us frequently enough . I was very impressed with their sushi quality overall and creative takes on dishes such as the screaming orgasm that truly has some of the best flavors coming from the sauce and the cuts of fish that they added . Also, just beautiful dishes, put out overall, such as the sashimi platter!

    Tuna Rainbow Roll

Very good. We arrived close to 8:00 pm and it was pretty packed. Ended up sitting at the bar as most tables were full. We ordered the bluefin tuna sushi, salmon sushi, tuna rainbow roll and kiss & say goodbye roll. The bluefin tuna was amazing. Salmon was very fresh. Definitely the highlights. The tuna rainbow roll was good. Had a little bit of heat but not overpowering. Unfortunately, the kids & say goodbye roll was baked and stuck to the foil it came out on. Location is small but efficient. Looks like they do a lot of takeout business.

Nothing beats a warm dinner with good food. The beef salad was hearty but light, the veggies still crisp.

    Do they have lunch menus?

Yes, good and affordable. Bento box is a good try.

Can I make a reservation ?Thanks

You can try. Last time I went, we were just going to walk in, but too long of a wait. Good luck.

Hi, do you accept American Express?

    yes we do

Have they been able to add more outdoor seating in the parking lot? I haven't gone since the week everything shut down in March. :-(

Sadly not, they have no room anywhere that is ideal so they still have to do takeout for now.

How does takeout work currently? Do I have to call ahead of time or do I order when I arrive?

They are still open for take out, but it's definitely quicker to order on the phone because sometimes they close early or they have a lot of orders, so you might have to wait a bit if you decide to order in person!

What brand is the cold plum sake?

They have many Jumai Jumai ginjo

Is there omakase and if so, how much do the different types cost?

They had a 9 piece nigiri omakase for $29 when I went.

Are you all you can eat (AYCE)?

sorry we don't have All you can eat.....

Thank you chefs and staffs for a wonderful dining experience.

Dating back to the 2nd Century BC; sushi was a favored Japanese cuisine far before any methods of…read morerefrigeration were yet invented. In order to keep fish fresh; rice was laden with rice vinegar and the fish marinaded in soy rice to keep the fish from spoiling (the rice was discarded and only the fish was consumed). As time went on, the art of sushi evolved to where the rice was eaten alongside the fish and during the Edo Period: this method of quickly fermenting with vinegar preventing spoiling; allowed for sushi to be served as street food without refrigeration even as the nigiri style so popular was born. If you are interested in this quick prep Edomae style of sushi; look no further than Arcadia's Sushi Kisen (which I assume is a play off the Japanese word, 'kaizen' meaning 'better, improved' so "better sushi") being one of the few Edomae sushi restaurants and Arcadia's first. Sushi Kisen offers 30-40 fish weekly shipped in straight from Tokyo twice a week! Located in a small corner shopping plaza on Baldwin Ave near the Arcadia intersection (about a mile from the LA Arboretum); the parking lot can be a bit congested as the plaza is filled with numerous restaurants, a bakery, a tea spot, etc. Crossing the threshold into Sushi Kisen reveals a medium-sized eatery with a sushi bar, wooden slat room dividers, and a dining area with tables and booths. Sushi Kisen eschews any bells and whistles in interior design for simplicity but the lines are still modern and clean to their benefit. My boyfriend and I were initially seated but quickly moved to allow our table to be used for a reservation that just phoned in; and thus, we were moved to a tiny back corner table where my I was two inches from the register and phone. This isn't awful, per se, but I was continuously becoming very friendly (metaphorically) with staff using the register and/or answering calls. It just didn't make me feel wholly welcome. For our sushi feast, my boyfriend and I ordered Mozuku seaweed ($8.00), Assorted Vegetable Tempura ($10), Deluxe Sushi Dinner (chef's choice nigiri and rolls, picked vegetables, miso soup, miso dressing salad - $45), Japanese King Mackerel Nigiri (2 pieces - $14), Unagi Eel (2 pieces - $13), Fatty Blue Fin w/ Takuan roll (12.50), and Glass Shrimp (2 pieces - $21.00). I am just going to get right into the nitty-gritty and say I simply did not like Sushi Kisen, at all. It might just be me (the restaurant was full so clearly people like it) and maybe I just don't gel with Edomae style. My favorites - the miso soup, salad, pickled vegetables and vegetable tempura - weren't even sushi! I love seaweed salad so I made the mistake of thinking this seaweed would be similar but it was a bowl of slop straight from the ocean and I found it putrid and inedible. But again, that may be my fault for not knowing. But what WASN'T my fault were my issues with the actual sushi: the glass shrimp was okay but a super weird texture and not worth $21 and would make more sense at half that price. The Japanese King Mackerel was the worst king mack I have ever had! It was grossly briny and "muddy" and tasted of poor quality even though I know it wasn't (but it shouldn't taste that way!). None of my boyfriend's Deluxe Sushi Dinner was that appetizing either and he didn't seem overly impressed. The Fatty Blue Fin roll was fine... but I truly sensed no flavor of any sort being simply bland. But at least it wasn't gross like much of the others that were not worth their price points. The eel was perfect - I am glad they didn't ruin that because I have quite the romance with eel. Again, I'll take some of the blame that maybe Sushi Kisen just isn't my preference but I think it runs deeper and they simply aren't as great as presented (which I can confirm from all of their recent reviews that share my same sentiment). Coupled with odd seating and a very disappointing sushi dinner; Sushi Kisen is simply not for me and a spot best decided for yourself whether worth a visit. To be fair, my boyfriend and I have had worse sushi so Sushi Kisen wasn't God-awful; but definitely not great, either.

There is a physical Drink menu (sake, beer, etc.) and the food menu can be viewed by scanning a QR code with your phone. The waitress made suggestions about which dishes she personally liked & we ordered whatever she suggested, along with some of the things we thought looked good. *7/10 Toro w/ seaweed *8/10 Moriwase (chef's selection of sashimi) 2 each of 5 different sashimi. There was one cut I did not particularly care for. *7/10 chicken wings *10/10 Beef tongue-- Tender, but firm. Delicious, a must try! *10/10 Ankimo-- creamy and paired well with the ponzu and fresh seaweed *10/10 Fried Seabass-- they served the entire fish, which is rare. *10/10 Sous-vide Duck breast-- must try! *10/10 Nikomi stew--simple, but delicious! *10/10 Matcha Oolong Panna Cotta-- subtly sweet with a smooth texture. It was so good, that we ordered two! The only reason that I only gave it a four out of five stars is because the service was slow. All of our dishes, came out in time, but no drink refills were given and the server never came back to collect our check for payment. So we had to walk it up to them ourselves.
