Clockwise: combination plate with beef teriyaki, beef katsu, rice, and salad; Tear Jerker and Big Mac rolls; and Unagi Don with salad
    Elsie D.

I was craving sushi for a hot summer night like tonight, and it's been a long time since I've stopped in here to eat. It is indeed a cozy restaurant as all the tables were kind of cramped together, but it's clean and charming. Major kudos for the service - all the employees were friendly and quick to clear out plates, and the food came out quickly. We ordered a Big Mac roll, a tear jerker roll, an unagi don, and a combination plate with beef teriyaki and katsu. My favorite item was the Big Mac; it's served as 4 huge pieces, and the fish was definitely fresh. All the other items, though, were kind of mediocre, to be honest. Maybe we just ordered the wrong combination of food. There were a bunch of seasonal items, so maybe I'll stop by to try something odd that menu before the summer is over.

Came here for lunch and it was packed, which is always a good sign. We ordered the Maki Omakase to try a bit of everything, and it was easily the highlight of the meal. The assortment included sashimi, oysters, shrimp, and uni. It was beautifully presented and everything was fresh with melt in your mouth texture. We also tried a couple rolls, which were well-balanced and packed with flavor. The surprise was the KBBQ ribs from the bento which was super tender and flavorful. Great, friendly service despite how busy it was. A great neighborhood sushi spot that I'd definitely come back to.

The sashimi was so fresh and tasty. The blue crab don was a good deal and creamy. The abalone special was unique and something I never saw before. The presentation is good and ambience nice .

We arrived as a party of 2 on a Saturday afternoon and was seated promptly. The dragon roll was phenomenal, oversized and amazingly seasoned, and the tuna roll was an enjoyable classic as well. The combination set was the only lackluster meal in this set (compared to the roll).

I loved everything here, from the decor to the sushi to the service. The Kimi Sashimi was a beautiful dish with very fresh fish, simply prepared and simply delicious. We also split an order of the seafood yakisoba, which was also very tasty and a large portion for the price. We'll be back.

One of my go-to's! Spicy tuna tempura never fails here. The service is great and I highly recommend the hand rolls, especially the salmon skin! More reviews @eatingw3j !

Fresh sashimi, huge portion for rolls and hot dishes, friendly service. We got the Arcadia roll, mango roll, seafood yakisoba, sashimi, and California salad

i came here not expecting much since it's a small, cozy neighborhood spot, but i was actually really surprised by the quality everything looked super clean and the presentation was honestly really pretty -- you can tell they care about what they're serving the fish was fresh with thick cuts, and we tried a variety of nigiri including uni, ikura, and salmon that all tasted really solid one of my favorite parts was the sweet shrimp -- they fry the head so you get that crispy, savory bite after which was so good the sashimi bowl was also stacked and didn't feel skimpy at all, and the tempura was light, crispy, and not oily for the quality, the pricing is actually really reasonable which makes it even more worth it overall, this is one of those lowkey spots you come back to when you just want good, reliable sushi without all the hype

Been a while since I've been here for lunch. Ordered the Lunch Bento (Shrimp & Veggie Tempura and 6 pieces sashimi) and M&S Special Roll. Everything was scrumptious and filling. The peanut dressing is the best one for the salad. Their M&S special roll never disappoints, still the same flavor and portion. Nice and quick service. It was kinda busy cuz it was their lunch special time.

You're looking for a perfect sushi night out with some amazing deals and top quality sushi, Maki and sushi has got to on your radar. Service was kind and helpful and checked on us frequently enough . I was very impressed with their sushi quality overall and creative takes on dishes such as the screaming orgasm that truly has some of the best flavors coming from the sauce and the cuts of fish that they added . Also, just beautiful dishes, put out overall, such as the sashimi platter!

Very good. We arrived close to 8:00 pm and it was pretty packed. Ended up sitting at the bar as most tables were full. We ordered the bluefin tuna sushi, salmon sushi, tuna rainbow roll and kiss & say goodbye roll. The bluefin tuna was amazing. Salmon was very fresh. Definitely the highlights. The tuna rainbow roll was good. Had a little bit of heat but not overpowering. Unfortunately, the kids & say goodbye roll was baked and stuck to the foil it came out on. Location is small but efficient. Looks like they do a lot of takeout business.

This is our first time visiting Maki after the change in management. We were pleasantly surprised by the interior update that they've done to the space, it def adds more character and warmth to the restaurant. I was going to order the omakase but ended up ordering the chirashi bowl instead, which did not disappoint with the generous portion and wide selection of fish included. We also ordered one Mountain Hand Roll which is named appropriately - it is humongous! We also got the Sunshine roll which was also yummy. Their rice is on the chewier and drier side, the taste of vinegar is also more mild than most places, imo. Service was def the highlight of our visit - there was a little bit of wait on the rolls, and our server surprised us with a crispy rice sushi on the house! Half way through the meal, there was a mishap where one of the servers walked into another and knocked over some waters, it wasn't a big deal since it was just water and only a little got onto us, but they graciously gave us a nice discount on the final bill. In addition, they offered us with free ice creams! The management really trained their staff well and we def appreciate the kind gestures. Btw the sashimi and sushi omakeses look super amazing, we'll def be back to try them out!

    Do they have lunch menus?

Yes, good and affordable. Bento box is a good try.

Can I make a reservation ?Thanks

You can try. Last time I went, we were just going to walk in, but too long of a wait. Good luck.

Hi, do you accept American Express?

    yes we do

Have they been able to add more outdoor seating in the parking lot? I haven't gone since the week everything shut down in March. :-(

Sadly not, they have no room anywhere that is ideal so they still have to do takeout for now.

How does takeout work currently? Do I have to call ahead of time or do I order when I arrive?

They are still open for take out, but it's definitely quicker to order on the phone because sometimes they close early or they have a lot of orders, so you might have to wait a bit if you decide to order in person!

What brand is the cold plum sake?

They have many Jumai Jumai ginjo

Is there omakase and if so, how much do the different types cost?

They had a 9 piece nigiri omakase for $29 when I went.

Are you all you can eat (AYCE)?

sorry we don't have All you can eat.....

Come for the food, but LOOK AT THIS PLACE…read more Okay, I have to start with the atmosphere because this place is absolutely STUNNING. The second you walk in, there is so much to look at. The woodwork, the hanging wooden plaques, the Japanese-inspired décor, the trees throughout the restaurant, the lighting, and especially the little honeycomb-style booths built into the walls. It almost feels like you've stepped into this little Japanese village rather than just another restaurant. Whoever designed this place understood the assignment. I went during the week, so thankfully it wasn't very crowded, and my friend and I were able to sit upstairs in one of the honeycomb booths. If one is available, DO IT. It made the whole experience that much more fun, and you get such a cool view of the restaurant from up there. Now, FOOD. I ordered the Pork Tonkatsu Omurice with curry sauce, which comes with chicken fried rice wrapped in that beautiful fluffy omelet, topped with pork tonkatsu and curry. When they bring it out, they actually ask if you'd like to record the presentation before they cut/open the egg--which, obviously, YES. It's one of those little touches that turns ordering food into an actual experience. And it was BOMB. The egg was fluffy, the pork tonkatsu had that crispy texture, and everything worked really well with the fried rice and curry. The curry itself isn't particularly spicy, so if you're someone who doesn't tolerate much heat, don't let the word curry scare you. It had plenty of flavor without being hot. Personally, I like my food SPICY spicy, so I added some extra spice to mine, but that's completely personal preference. I also ordered the Thai iced tea, and that was delicious--fresh, creamy, refreshing, and exactly what I wanted with the meal. Overall, I genuinely enjoyed the food, but I think the atmosphere is what pushed the experience over the top for me. The restaurant itself is just SO COOL. There are restaurants where you eat, leave, and that's it--and then there are places where you're looking around the entire time because you keep noticing another little detail. KYURAMEN was definitely the latter. Good food + Thai tea + an omurice presentation + sitting inside a freaking honeycomb booth overlooking this gorgeous restaurant? Yeah. I'm coming back. Tip: If you have the option to sit in one of the elevated honeycomb booths, absolutely take it. It makes the experience.

Our server was friendly and knowledgeable. When we asked for recommendations, he pointed us in the right direction. We ordered the Sapporo Miso Ramen (Mild), Tokyo Tonkotsu Shoyu Ramen, the Tonkatsu Omurice, and started with the Yakitori Platter. The ramen was excellent. The broth was rich and flavorful, and the noodles were cooked perfectly. The Yakitori Platter was a great choice because it let us sample a variety of grilled proteins, and even the grilled zucchini was incredibly delicious. The presentation of the Tonkatsu Omurice was impressive, and the curry sauce was well-balanced with just the right amount of spice to complement the crispy tonkatsu. Overall, we had a great dining experience with delicious food, excellent service, and a fun atmosphere. We'll definitely be back to try more items on the menu. Until next time, enjoy!

The rest ordered 18 pieces of Negitoro Rolls, Deluxe sushi dinner, and Traditional Edomae Style Sushi Dinner. We also got water and one can of Diet Coke. They also served some pickled dishes and salad (but chicken dinner had salad so I didn't get it yet), and we really enjoyed the dressing. There was one cut I did not particularly care for. *7/10 chicken wings *10/10 Beef tongue-- Tender, but firm. It was so good, that we ordered two! The only reason that I only gave it a four out of five stars is because the service was slow. All of our dishes, came out in time, but no drink refills were given and the server never came back to collect our check for payment. So we had to walk it up to them ourselves. For a small space, with three servers, it shouldn't be hard to attend to all the customers. The menu can be pricey, but food is delicious! Along with exceptional service, eating here is worth it.

The place was empty when we arrived, yet they made us feel unwelcome from the start -- no offer to sit, and it felt heavily implied that omakase was required to get a table rather than just asking us outright what we wanted. The waiter was friendly enough, so I have no real complaint about service. But the food was mediocre at best -- nowhere near the quality you'd expect for $221.67. On top of that, they added an 18% gratuity for a party of two with zero heads-up. Every other restaurant I've been to gives you that disclosure upfront. Finding it on the bill was a frustrating surprise. I came in expecting at least above-average yakitori. What we got was deeply disappointing. I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone looking for quality omakase. Save your money.

Parking is abundantly available since it's located in a shared strip center. There's a sushi bar, but I opted to dine at a table with a view of the sushi bar where there were two itamae chefs. The service was prompt, but the waitress hostess staff was all business and could have been friendlier although she might have been overwhelmed, since she was seating patrons, taking orders and serving customers.
