Really wonderful upscale Asian spot in Delray. This was some of the best sushi we've had in a while! I highly recommend the cow-wow roll and pop rockin' roll. Oh and the seared halibut -- impeccable. The service was top notch as well. Drinks are unique and delicious. We ended up valeting at the hotel since it was raining... just FYI it'll cost you 20 bucks if you go that route. All I can say is wow... We have been wanting to come to Akira Back for a while and we finally got the chance to. The ambiance feels like you're in New York. There's a lot of natural light with the windows but once it gets dark the restaurant transforms. The dim lighting enhances the environment. We order many dishes but the stand out ones were the truffle bomb (4piece), crab hand roll, and tuna pizza. The flavors were absolutely amazing. I can't wait to try everything on the menu. The thin crust on the tuna pizza is actually a handmade flour tortilla. It's so light and layered with flavor! To drink, we had the Tiger Lily. You could taste every ingredient. The front notes were wasabi but the after taste was ginger. For dessert, we had the chocolate in the cup. I wish I ordered one for myself. It tastes like a Ferraro Roche. Overall, the level of precision and gastronomy is so unique to the Delray area. You will definitely have an amazing experience. Come here open minded and with an appetite! You will need to order quite a bit of dishes to share. The service seemed a little off, maybe because it was Memorial Day. I was a little disappointed given the price point and prestige of the chef. Very disappointed on Brunch experience and it's rather deceiving. I thought we were going up have an amazing selection as it states hosted by Akira Back. I had hoped that this would be a great introduction to the more prestigious omakase experience as it boasts a menu of Akira's greatest hits. It is far from that. Rosewater is a beautiful setting and the experience itself was really nice. Mimi our server was so wonderful and really allowed us to enjoy the experience. We were greeted with a complimentary cocktail that was good, but no one said they would want to drink it again. You get plenty of food, but honestly we were expecting higher quality, more intriguing flavors and would have sacrificed the huge bowl of edamame and cucumbers. Only two dishes stood out, the protein roll was a fan favorite with the salmon tataki second best. All the rest meh...not much flavor, too much rice, off balanced or drowning in sauce. Japanese food has always been delicate with subtle notes and perfect balance ... this was bland or heavy and clunky. Also they need to work on coordination in the kitchen, as some dishes arrived on top of one another, and others we waited quite awhile for. Edamame: drowning in too much kimchi butter California Roll: the most tasteless and boring California ever, and I LOVE California rolls. Throw some masago on it, flavor the rice and use a lot less of it! Hamachi Jalapeno: it was lost in all the flavorless rice. Pop Rockin: it has a tad more flavor but kinda lost again Veggie: big crunch but an insult to veggies as you did it no justice Salmon Tataki: second best dish Tuna Tacos: ok but no wow here Salmon Cones: salmon has a nice flavor but was not spicy, but that cone though cute was just eww tasting and texture was chewy as if stale instead of crisp. Cucumber: this dish needs to marinate...there was had no flavor whatsoever except for the pieces which sat in the marinade on the bottom. Carrots: I loved the carrots but the dish and flavors clashed with everything Rock Shrimp: death by drowning Pork Gyoza: the large amount of peas in the filling was odd Short Rib: our least favorite dish of all! Crispy Rice: the tuna got lost on the huge piece of rice drowned in sauce which took a good 4 minutes of chewing, i didn't think I'd ever get to swallowing it. Had really high hopes for this spot but was extremely disappointed. Our server was very friendly and attentive but that was the most pleasant thing about the experience. Considering the price point, almost every dish was underwhelming and below average. The tuna pizza was mediocre at best and wasn't seasoned evenly. The most disappointing item on the order was the $160 omakase "box". It wasn't fresh at all and lacked any significant flavor/umami. To sum it up it was just unequivocally BAD for any price point, let alone $160. Finally, while the ambiance is mostly high end, the blue lights threw me off. It was very difficult to see the the true tones of the food unless I used the flash on my phone. Unfortunately, I would not recommend and wouldn't go back. read more

Came back to Akira Back with friends from France and the family. We had Rob as our server. He was a great fit for our table. He was personable, helpful, and efficient. The room is a bit loud, but we were able to hear each other on a large round table. We had a sushi pizza, which we ordered two more because everyone at the table loved it. We had the cow wow room, sashimi, power roll, a few others however I can't remember right now. Just know every dish was delicious! We had the ice cream cigar which was tasty. There were no simulated ashes this time though. Mochi was good and something fried with apple I think. I didn't have it, however everyone loved it too. If you haven't been, definitely go. You can walk off your meal around Delray when you are done. We went up to the bar up stairs after to check it out. It was a bit quiet, however a nice outdoor area to relax. We dined in for my birthday. This restaurant was on our radar because we had been to the Orlando location and had a fantastic experience. This restaurant is very, very nice, dimly lit with a chic vibe. I had the crab legs at the other location, but here they were not gluten-free, so I went for the Nazo 9 omakase. I like trying new things, and my 9 items chosen and prepared gluten-free by the chef were very interesting! The presentation is really cool, and it draws attention. Our waiter was very nice and informative. The whole dining experience was worth every penny. The restaurant is a part of the Ray Hotel, so you can park valet or on the street, and the restaurant is just located on the left side of the building. I dropped in without a reso at 5pm and was first to sit outside. It's such a cute little patio, feels secluded yet in the middle of all things happening. Savannah was an all star server - I got the Geisha cocktail with vodka because of her and she didn't steer me wrong (I told her what I was in the mood for and she nailed it). The perfect storm roll was a splash of unexpected spice that you get used to bc the pieces just dissolve in your mouth and it tastes phenomenal. The tuna nigiri was just as good and easy to eat! Passing through Del Ray beach during our road trip, we decided to spend our thanksgiving dinner in one of the restaurants of Award winning Michelin star chef Akira Back Parking: the Ray hotel provides valet parking for $25 but there is also available free street parking if you can find one We were seated immediately and greeted by our amazing server Frankie. We love Frankie as he has good understanding of the menu and able to elaborate on each dish Cocktails- if you like wasabi flavor, try the Tiger Lily! I love this but maybe not if you do not like wasabi. This drink is something unique and different. The lychee-tini, Geisha and Shiso sunset are just regular cocktails which are also good but nothing special Appetizers- we had very high expectations for the AB tuna pizza as we have tried different preparations of this from other famous restaurants; it's good but not as we expected it to be. Still a must try if you have not had this dish The Nazo 9 is a must try. My husband was very excited about this. It's a mystery box composed of 9 petite dishes not offered in the menu. Each has 2 pieces (i shared this with him). Presentation is cool and camera worthy. I agree with the other yelp reviews that it will not fill you up but, it's an experience of flavors that you usually get in tasting menus. For the Robata, we got the giant prawns, it has 2 big prawns, grilled to perfection, with really yummy roasted corn. Love the flavor of this Main- miso black cod is something I always order in other restaurants and this one did not disappoint. Definitely a must try. Fish is so soft, juicy and flavorful. The miso flavor get right into the meat. We got the Alaskan king crab fried rice that goes really well with the cod. The rice is a very good amount and also has good proportion of crab meat We tried the Perfect storm roll thinking it has all the meat we like - shrimp ,tuna salmon belly. It's good good but nothing too special. Dessert- we were hoping to try the AB cigar but unfortunately was not available. We tried the Chocolate cup and Yuzu Citrus. The chocolate cup is vanilla ice cream with brownie and Nutella. My daughter liked this. Interesting and unique Japanese/Korean tapas (sharing) restaurant. Flair, excellent service and some off the chart bites of deliciousness in a pretty, bright venue in The Ray hotel. We had the "surprise me" bento box--it comes to the table with great ceremony (I won't spoil the surprise) but below is a pic of the open box. Too many things to describe, but all were good, some excellent and others super excellent. The tuna AB pizza (the chef's signature creation that is served at all his restaurants) is the bomb!! I'll be at the bar alone eating one with a glass of bubbles soon -- just so I won't have to share it. The filet (sliced) with mushrooms was yummy as was the yellowtail Serrano. I heard a lot of buzz about Akira and was hopeful it would meet expectations since Delray doesn't have a huge selection of Asian fusion. Located inside The Ray hotel, the restaurant is beautifully decorated with plants hanging from the ceiling and plush seats with marble tables. It looks like a nice date night spot or intimate gathering, but it was a little off-putting that the loud music and large tables made me feel very separated from my party and I was constantly shouting to have a convo. Anyway, the Ab Tuna pizza app was probably the best thing we ate all evening. What looks like simplicity in presentation is a far cry from the explosion of flavors that you get at the first bite. A little bit of crunch from the cracker, a soft piece of tuna, and somewhere sandwiched between lies the truffle oil and some amazing sauce that makes this app dynamite. The grilled octopus with its accompanying sauce was also good, but not the best I've ever had. I enjoyed both the hot mess and perfect storm rolls, the hot mess roll is a good option if you want to minimize the carbs because it's wrapped in rice paper, and has a nice kick. The side of Japanese mushrooms was also nice to try; the sauce was reminiscent of Filipino adobo. We also shared the kimchee fried rice and the scallops on the half shell. I would say the scallops were my least favorite of all the dishes. The preparation was just too salty for me although the scallops themselves were soft and cooked perfectly. I'm sure we ran up the bill quite a bit by the end of the evening. The food was good, service was consistent, but price point is on the high side for plates that are supposed to be shareable. Well we were so excited to go to this restaurant since they just opened but our experience started great then finished bad . I didn't expect to be leaving a bad review but sadly I am . If you are planning to go there there is different parking options. We valet at hotel $20 where the restaurant is located at ! We had a reservation at 6:30 pm . The hostess was super nice. She took us to our table right away. Our server came and he was super friendly at the beginning before he got busy. They just opened a few days ago so we saw lots of people that seems important there . Chef Akira was walking around and looking at everything. We did not order any drinks but we saw some drinks that were been served and they all look really good. We explained our seer that I could not have gluten. He went to talk to the chef and came back asking if this was because of an allergy or choice. I just have not have time explain but I did . Allergy . Then he came back and tell me is a flour allergy because is diferente then soy sauce then. I is not is the same thing. Soy sauce had gluten that is why the make gluten free now. But he knew because then he says we haven't got the shipment for gluten free soy sauce yet. Sometimes when you don't know what to say is better not to say anything. My doctor made stop eating gluten for a reason , He seems nice so I was like at least he is trying. We were so annoyed but waited . He came by us and said this is what happened when we get busy sushi takes a while . But we didn't have a roll it was 3 pieces of yellowtail and the Eggs. When we finally got it the salmon roe didn't have any rice . So I asked him where is the rice and he said I ordered sashimi it should have rice and I said no sashimi doesn't have rice nigiri does and he made sound like I was crazy , I been eating sushi for so long that At least I know . He took back and didn't said much but don't look that happy. We didn't want to wait same as before so we told him not to worry about just to give us the check and he goes ok. While all this was happening we wanted it to order more food but could not because our server was not really around . We know he was busy but still ask . He only check on us at beginning to see how the octopus was but never came again about the other food. We didn't complain at all . Our server knew . He should have gone and talk the manager and tell them how long we were wearing for this. So I saw the made the salmon roe that right way and chef was looking for our server . When the manager found him he told him he didn't need it anymore so the brought it back to the sushi bar . The only reason we cancel it was because of the wait before. Our server should have come to our table , apologized and said the here it is they made and apologized but he didn't. So after seen all this we realized that our Time there was done and that we should not order anything else even though we were still hungry. The GM came to our table once and he was super nice ! I've been waiting to come for some time. It wasn't until i was in Vegas staying at the bellagio i realized the name of the restaurant is named after the chef. The quality of every single dish we had was incredible. The service was very good, Savannah did an incredible job going over some of her favorite dishes and personal recommendations. The Tuna Pizza and tuna tatami to start was exceptional. Even as an Uni and sweet shrimp and truffle lover, i think the truffle bomb could be so much better. Quality was fine of course, but i just don't think the dish meshed. On to the $50 per ounce, 4oz minimum A5 Wagyu....pretty damn amazing. Just like butter. All of the ala carte nigiri and sashimi + handrolls was phenomenal. Uni w quali egg, chu toro, tamago, unagi. It was all fantastic. I'm a nori lover. I always prefer a hand roll with nori 100/100 times, there's nothing fun for me about rice paper at such an extraordinary restaurant and experience. Maybe give an either or option? Idk. Just thinking out loud. Whatever the dessert was, was also really good. Maybe milk in a box or something catchy. I'll be back again.
