It was bottomless mimosas or sake and your glass was never empty..She was always there topping you off! We started with pork belly Caesars salad, which was tasty then went on to making our own dumplings. The instructor showed everyone up close and was around when we needed him and definitely helped everyone "start off" cooking our dumplings but the mimosas took over and he just ended up cooking.. LOL You can say it was bottomless dumplings too.. We made so many, it was way more than what anyone could eat. The products were top notch so as ugly as our dumplings were made, they all tasted great! The only thing I would have added to this event would be some sides to break up the dumplings...Maybe some bok choy or greens and some fried rice. Otherwise, great experience and restaurant. Wow! I will definitely return to Chubby Cat. I went to Chubby Cat on a Sunday evening for a date. We were greeted by the hostess. We asked to sit at the bar where we were greeted by the wonderful Rowan. Rowan was fantastic! He answered all of questions, made excellent suggestions, and dealt with my food allergies with grace and efficiency. I cannot speak highly enough about Rowan. We would go back even if the food wasn't absolutely wonderful, which it was. The place is quite lovely. The ambience is perfect for a quiet date, at least a little late on a Sunday night. It was quiet and peaceful. Now for the food. YUMMY!!! We were offered the happy hour menu, which I believe we were told they have happy hour all day every day. The happy hour menu was just enough to give you some really good small plate options. We ordered the Seaweed Salad, which was the most flavorful I have ever had, the Gyoza, which my date absolutely loved (I couldn't eat it), and the Tuna Tataki, which was seared perfectly and was served on a bed of Shitake mushrooms. As good as the tune was, the "shrooms" stole the spotlight on that plate. We also ordered a couple cocktails. I ordered a Nightshade Kiss, which was made with Japanese Whisky (never heard of Japanese Whisky, but it was delicious - kind of like a blended whiskey), made with a cherry syrup and a sweet vermouth. It is a tad bit on the sweet side. My companion had a Lychee Martini, which must have been pretty tasty because she ordered a second. We then ordered our main dishes. She ordered the Long Island Duck Ramen - a huge bowl of broth and noodles with a roasted duck. I tried a bite of the duck and it was scrumptious (I do not typically like duck). I ordered the dry-aged ribeye that came with some roasted peppers, zucchini, broccolini, and asparagus (this was offered to me as an option because the dish is normally served with the house made waffles fries). The Ribeye was divine! It was grilled to a perfect medium rare and served with a small bit of butter on the top with some herbs. Both of those dished were way too big for us to finish, so we ended up with some take home boxes. I could recommend Chubby Cat more, not only for the food, but for the service also. We had such an excellent experience at the Nigiri making class! They gave us the option of bottomless mimosas or hot or cold sake, and they also brought out a delicious chicken skewer appetizer to start. The chef came around to each table and demonstrated how to make the nigiri, and then we were provided with everything we needed, including all the fish and rice. We got 5 pieces of fish, shrimp, ikura (salmon roe), and 2 pieces of Japanese-style omelet. There was honestly so much food provided, and we left very full! Our waitress was also amazing. We visited Chubby Cat Japanese Izakaya & Sushi in Delray Beach after planning to have ramen at Ramen Labs, only to discover it had transformed into Chubby Cat. Since it's the same owner, we decided to give it a try--and we're so glad we did. We started with the pork gyoza, and wow... it was some of the best I've ever had. Perfectly cooked, flavorful, and simply superb. For our entrées, we both ordered the Spicy Tonkotsu Ramen. They definitely weren't kidding about the spice level, but it was the kind of heat that enhances the flavors instead of overwhelming them. Rich, comforting, and exactly what we were craving. Our server, Ivan, was friendly, attentive, and made sure we had everything we needed without ever being intrusive. This was a fantastic first visit to Chubby Cat. The atmosphere feels a bit more elevated than its predecessor while still being welcoming and comfortable. We'll definitely be back--and next time, the sushi is calling our name! read more

Chubby Cat Sushi was one of the best Japanese food meals we've had in a while. Our server was excellent - friendly, helpful, knowledgeable, fast, and excited about the menu and the food. He took our spicy garlic edmame order right away as well as our sake order, recommending the Tozai Snow Maiden Nigori sake, commenting about its slightly cloudier, thicker consistency (I typically like a drier sake but I would definitely order this sake again). The edmama came out in a small bowl and pieces of it were literally flailing around, nice touch and I have no idea how they did that. The sake came out in a little, square wooden box with ice and two small shot glasses. For apps, we tried the Chubby Cat salad, which was delicious - with a very light dressing on romaine, cucumber, fennel, tomatoes, and sesame dressing. The pork gyoza was also amazing with a nice dipping sauce. We also tried the lychee blossom cocktail and loved it. It wasn't too sweet and had three skewered lychees. I also tried a single piece of unagi which tasted great and the tobiko sushi. For mains, we tried torishoyu ramen with chicken and kimchi added and the grilled dry-aged Spanish branzino. Ahead of our meals, the server came to our table with a tray of different chop sticks for each of us to select. Nice touch! The ramen was delicious and I thought that my branzino was outstanding! It arrived in a very large dish (our 2-top table was low on real estate), the skin was perfectly crisped, and the meat was tender - I loved the green yazu chimichurri and the roasted vegetables. The interior has been redone from the prior ramen restaurant that was in the space - the black blinds are quite striking, the hanging flowers, pictures on the walls and even the glass refrigerator with the hanging-by-the-tail full fish make everything seem very well taken care of and fresh. This is a spot I'll definitely revisit... it's SOOO close to 5 stars for me, but on this first visit the drinks and food didn't necessarily "Wow" me, thus the missing star... although everything else did! PROS: - Located in the heart of the busy Delray Beach social strip, so it's easy to find and locate parking - Staff was super courteous as soon as we walked in and the entire time we were there - The ambiance inside and out is excellent... you can see lots of thought was put into the decor. It actually took us a minute to decide whether to eat inside or outside, both were eye catching... but with the amazing weather that day we chose outside! - The entire restaurant was clean and tidy - Drinks & food were brought out quickly - Outdoor dining area is somewhat enclosed from the street and has lovely pink Cherry Blossoms all over the ceiling, creating a pretty & semi-private outdoor setting (no seating beside the sidewalk like many other patios) - The cost/value for the meal was average for the area CONS: - The cocktails we ordered were not strong... we actually couldn't taste it in either of our drinks (and neither of us drinks excessively btw!) - Also the rolls we ordered lacked a little bit of flavor... needed perhaps a sauce of some kind (and we all know I eat a LOT of Japanese food so I know what I'm talkin about! This review is for the DIY sushi making class. A friend and I went today and let me say, it was amazing! It was worth it for the price as well. You get an appetizer of gyozas, choice of beverage (sake or bottomless mimosas), and then you choose three different fish to begin making your sushi rolls. You get all of the makings you need to customize your rolls. It was a fun experience and then of course getting to eat your creation afterwards. You can take whatever you can't finish with you and they give you a cute insulated bag with a ceramic soy sauce holder and post card. The service was excellent and everything tasted fresh. Came here for my birthday with my boyfriend, atmosphere is modern and trendy without feeling too gauche. The service was good and attentive, you get to choose your own chopsticks too! Unfortunately when i went they were all out of my two favorite beers but the food was amazing. It a core is plea pleasant which makes your stay very comfortable. Super tasty and fresh sushi in the Delray Area! My friend and I came in here for a fab sushi dinner to celebrate my birthday. For starters, our server was really sweet and friendly; she also recommended several tasty cocktails. I had one of the high balls (second from the top on the list) and my friend had this lychee spritz cocktail - both were delicious. After ordering, we got to select our own chopsticks to use with our meal. We had the trio toro sushi, the tri-scallop roll, pieces of o toro and scallop sushi, the chubby maki roll, the linux roll, and scallop tobiko rolls. Everything came out truly fresh and tasty - I would recommend all of the dishes we had to be honest. We then also had the mango popsicle as a birthday dessert. This is my absolute favorite Raman place! The bone broth is slo cooked for 48 hours and it tastes amazing, The Chubby cat signature roll with fish eggs is my new favorite! I came here on a Friday night with friends to enjoy some sushi. We had reservations and were seated promptly. There is parking available in the front but it gets packed and we did not see any available spots and parked directly in the garage opposite chubby cat. This a very chic and modern sushi vibe with floral decor and cute little cat figures everywhere and spread on our table. The server also came around at the beginning to have us pic our own chopsticks. This was nice effort to enhance the meal but the food was just not it. We ordered the crispy smelt fish as an appetizer which came in a tempura batter but still have bones inside! I have never had tempura with bones and it was just off putting and difficult to it because there was a bone in every bite. We ordered the Lobster Roll and our friends ordered the cowgirl Roll. We did not read the roll ingredients so we did not know the lobster roll had wagyu and we do not eat beef. This was our fault, I'll admit. However, when we double checked with a staff member (not our server) she told us it was the cowgirl roll...so we were waiting...and waiting...and by this time our friends finished their food. When our original server returned he then confirmed with us it is actually the lobster roll. We ended up ordering another roll which was completely basic and honestly just so we could feel full (since our friends were already finished). I honestly felt like I was eating gas station sushi. We did order the TrioToro at the beginning which was the best roll out of the bunch but I've had better Bluefin tuna elsewhere and it was so overpriced. The spicy mayo was RANCH. It was not spicy mayo. I think the concept is great but there needs to be way more effort in food prep, food quality, menu revision, and becoming well-versed with the names of the rolls, etc. between staff. Just came back from another wonderful dinner at Chubby Cat sushi in downtown Delray Beach. This is probably the best sushi experience I've had in Florida so far. There's no sense in telling you what we had for dinner because everything on their menu is creative, unusual and incredible. The service is Manhattan professionalism with a friendly informative twist. Our server was ANDREW, who I will definitely ask for specifically next time we go. He advised us on the preparation and ingredients of each dish we questioned, and helped us make healthy delicious choices. An Edamame Dumpling appetizer was excellent as was grilled/skewered chicken but I was surprised at how good the Chicken Ramen (Torishoyu) was and it can be difficult to find Ramen without a pork base but Chubby Cat has it and it's worth ordering. I found this restaurant while trying to escape the chaos of Atlantic Avenue on a busy Saturday night with my kids. We specifically wanted to sit inside, but the hostess insisted there were no tables available. When I stepped inside to use the restroom, the dining room was nearly empty, only two tables seated. After pushing back, she suddenly "found" us a table. That shouldn't require a negotiation. I understand not every restaurant caters to families, and that's fine. But basic courtesy and honesty shouldn't be optional. Our waiter was kind and tried to be helpful, but overall service was slow and inattentive at time given the empty dining room. Dirty dishes sat on the table, and my empty drink was taken without even asking if I wanted another. Several items we ordered were completely forgotten, but by that point we had already waited so long that we lost our appetite and didn't even bother addressing it. What made it more frustrating was watching three sushi chefs standing around, yet it still took nearly an hour to get a single roll. It just didn't add up. At this point, I'm starting to wonder if my expectations are too high, or if bare minimum service is simply the standard here. Either way, the experience felt off. read more
