Came to Akira on a Monday night and made reservations in advance. There is an underground parking lot but there weren't too many customer stalls left when we got there. The lot is a bit tight with low clearance, but there was free validated parking. Inside of the restaurant is on the smaller side, so I'm glad we made reservations. I got the teishoku with karaage chicken. The chicken was super juicy but had a nice crispy outside. It also came with salad, rice, eggplant, and pickled vegetables. The udon part of the teishoku was served at the end of the meal. We also got a toro taku roll to share. I loved all the cute dishes here! Service was friendly, and I would definitely come back here.

Food was delicious. We ordered happy hour . It's 430pm-530pm. Service was good , pleasant. Parking entrance is on young street. They validate free parking for 3 hours

Nigiri 3 piece special of the day

Happy hour with the girls... made a reservation for HH. Nice small restaurant friendly staff, nice sushi house. We ordered the special 3 piece nigiri . The nigiri was very tasty, the rice cooked perfectly. We also ordered ~ shrimp tempura roll, spicy ahi roll. Karaage chicken. Their house made creamy crab croquet was delicious. Shrimp and veg tempura was ok. Small selections of Sake but very good. Yuzu beer was a first and very smooth and tasty. We ended our HH as usual with Mango sorbet and a condensed milk ice cream with mochi balls, azuke beans and a special sauce. Very yummy! Next time we have to try their noodles and other sushi's. Reservations are recommended. Validated parking for 3 hrs. Nice place for HH or dinner.

The food overall was good but nothing stood out to me as amazing. The sushi was pretty fresh but I think I enjoyed the cooked food more. The tamago with crab and tempura were probably the dishes I enjoyed the most. It is a bit pricey compared to other shops with similar dishes. I feel like I would come back again if someone wanted to go but I wouldn't choose it alone based on the value.

Had an amazing Japanese teishoku set at Akira!I tried the miso butterfish and chicken karaage, each served with udon, rice, and side dishes. The miso butterfish was perfectly flaky and flavorful, with a rich, savory miso glaze. The chicken karaage was crispy on the outside, juicy on the inside, and seasoned just right. The udon was comforting and the rice was fluffy, complementing the main dishes nicely. The sides added variety and made the meal feel complete. Service was attentive and the atmosphere was cozy, making it a perfect spot for a satisfying Japanese meal. Highly recommend!

Love the late night happy hour here that starts at 8 PM. Service is always attentive, polite, and efficient. The restaurant is cozy and comfortable and the $3.50 draft Sapporo always hits the spot. We usually have the spicy tuna roll, shrimp and vegetable tempura, kake soba, chicken karaage, arabiki sausage, marinated eggplant.... these are off the happy hour menu. You can also order off the regular menu and there are daily specials too. The prices reflect the location... Neighborhood place with good food and good service. Street parking or three hour validation offered for parking in the back. Also open for lunch.

Atmosphere: so cute and clean with friendly staff. Food: delicious and their prices. Love that you can also order takeout bentos. Been here a couple time and always forgetting to write my review. I do have the pictures to show what I've had. It seems there's not a wrong thing to order at Akira. If there is I have yet to try it. My latest favorite place to go to right now. A true gem!

Husband was craving tendon... Akira offers tempura and has late night Happy Hour. Let's go! Called last minute when we were only 15min away on a Saturday night. They took our reservations. Convenient parking in the building - $2 w/ validation. Short wait upon arrival... place was packed at 8pm - we took the last open table. Place is cozy and nice (my teen was impressed). Ordered drinks (true HH deals) and food from the HH menu. Four of us enjoyed... cravings filled. Bonus Tip: Akira is part of ASB's Debit card 'Buy Local Hawaii' discount program. Go and enjoy, Akira.

Having lived in Japan for many years I'm very picky with Japanese food. Akira has both authentic Japanese cooking and a Japanese style service which makes you feel at home yet your personal space is respected. As a vegan (occasionally the accidental vegetarian when eating outside) my options are limited of course but this place has vegan options that are worth returning for. This was my second visit. I selected Daikon, (sushi) vegetable roll, eggplant and agedashi tofu (all dishes fully vegan) and even though I wasn't hungry suddenly my mouth was watering and my appetite grew fast. My friends who's not vegan had tempura and also ordered what I had cos they loved the taste. There was an American guest that commented that the dishes were so small. But this is part of the joy of Japanese food culture! You eat several small dishes, and often share, and this way you get a balance of many flavors and nutrients and don't overeat. "Hara Hachibu" is a Japanese saying indicating that if you eat only until you 80% full you stay healthy and live longer. What a delicious evening. I'll definitely return and bring friends.

Great Sushi! Akira is a small, family owned gem in Honolulu that I've heard nothing but good things about. Reservations are strongly encouraged (we saw a couple of walk-ins get turned away) and well worth it. Fish is very fresh, almost to the point where it feels like it was just caught and the quality was amazing. Sashimi was a personal favorite. 10/10 would recommend.

Amazing traditional Japanese food and great happy hour specials! We tried over 15 dishes and everything was delicious! I would definitely recommend getting the 2 item combo which comes with 2 entrees, miso soup/kake udon, egg, pickles, rice, and a salad. The miso butterfish was tender, not fishy, and the miso glaze was just the right amount of sweetness. Some highlights were the chirashi bowl (fresh sashimi), the kake udon (perfectly chewy noodles), and the arare soft shell crab (extra crunch due to Japanese rice crackers). I would definitely come back for hh at 8-9:30 pm again!

It was a little bit of a wait as we were coming in with no reservation and we had came right before LATE night happy hour. I do wish we were notified like a wait time or something. After that, he did come in and gave us a table near window. This restaurant is very intimate(small) and inside of a hotel. The staff was very friendly by the time service hit. Food wise... wow, they have a wide selection of items. I really enjoyed the spicy ahi roll and oyster ponzu for appetizers. I even had to try the deep fried lobster with arare, super crisp and tasty. Personally, i wish there was a dip for it like a tempura or any type of sauce for it like a ponzu. The yuzu chicken ramen was exactly what it was, noodles were perfectly cooked and very flavorful. A bit too citrusy for my tastebuds, very yuzu forward. As for dessert, I got the akira parfait without azuki! Wow, it was perfection in a bowl! The perfect blend of sweet, savory, creammy goodness! Matcha, kinako, mochi, and the syrup is chef's kiss! It was definitely a great experience and I will definitely be back for more. Price is reasonable for Happy Hour! Definitely going to have another Deep Fried Lobster again! Mmmmm! Yum

We attempted to make reservations, but they were completely booked until the following month. Since we didn't want to miss out, we decided to order their most popular tonkatsu meal to go instead. When we arrived, there were already a lot of people waiting outside. I went in to check on our order, and they let me know it would be another 10-15 minutes. Since it was a hot day, we wandered over to the crystal-themed shop next door while we waited. It had lots of interesting items to browse, although we ended up leaving empty handed. About 15 minutes later our order was ready, and we Ubered back to our hotel, which only took a few minutes. When we opened everything up, the portion felt a bit small for the price. The tonkatsu itself was tender, but for us it didn't quite live up to all the hype. I did appreciate that you can choose clam soup instead of the traditional miso soup, and there are different rice options as well, which is a nice touch. Overall, it was a good meal, but not one that completely wowed us given the price. It's possible the experience would have been different dining in, but with the long waitlist and the hot weather, takeout was the better choice for us.

Not only that, but I have to bring my significant other along to share in the deliciousness! I don't know how I'm just now talking about Marugame Udon. When I first came here, my friend and I decided to give it a try because we saw the longest line and wanted to see what all the hype was about. There was a couple in front of us who said they come here every time they visit Hawaiʻi and that it's a must-do stop on every trip. When you walk in, it's a small place. You can watch a team member washing the noodles and portioning them into bowls right in front of you. Then you choose your bowl size, small or large, and select your broth. After that, you get to choose from a variety of fried items and other à la carte options displayed on a warmer. Seating can be limited because of how busy this place gets. You line up to get your food, pay for it, grab your condiments, utensils, and a cup of water, then find a seat and enjoy. I've already been here twice, and after writing about my experience, I need to make a third visit happen very soon! There are not enough days off in a week to enjoy all of the amazing food on this island, but I'm going to do my best to experience as many places as I can. This place is totally worth the 45-minute commute from Wahiawa.

I've done them all and they are all comfortable. You'll find way more specials at dinner time. The food is really high quality, and super consistent too! I highly recommend this place for small and big parties alike!! But make reservations for dinnertime because walk-ins are probably not gonna happen.
