The food here is always good. Service is iffy, but they seem to try. However, last nite my husband went for dinner w 4 friends. His bill was $15, and he tipped 20%, $3. When he reviewed his credit card statement, the charge was $23. He stopped at the restaurant and they pulled up the receipt which the tip had been CLEARLY changed from a 3 to an 8. Hi thought the food was good but service was awful ! The staff hides in the kitchen ! asked for a appetizer then told waitress to wait until I finished my appetizer before my dinner came out then 2 minutes later out came the food! Just tried this last night. Have been soooooo craving decent Asian food since leaving CA. Am pleased to say that this one was the best we have found yet. There is actually some nice ambiance (rare for Asian places in the south) Lighting at bar is trendy. A clean, modern vibe. Our server was attentive and competent. We had homemade dumplings (yum) and Mongolian Beef (a little bland) and green beens with Shrimp --very good. Very fresh and sweet shrimp. Seems they have beer at least. I did see a lot of bottles behind the bar, so don't know if they have full liquor license or not, but obviously intend to get one. Overall I am very glad to have this place as a new go to. Unfortunately my dinning experience was not a good one . I was very disappointed because Bluffton needs a good Chinese restaurant. The Egg drop soup was bland and nothing special . The Hot and Sour soup was also nothing special and also bland. UGH ... these soups are so easy to prepare . This establishment has a Very very limited menu if you want Japanese cuisine. All they have is sushi roll which has to be pre made . The "handmade pork egg roll" came already cut into pieces and was lacking flavor. The Tuna carpaccio was very chintzy on the tuna and was served on top of a shit load of greens . The tuna roll was nothing special and it had been pre made and not fresh made. How Do you screw lettuce wraps??? They managed to serve lettuce that lost its freshness two days ago and could not form the taco like shape. How messy ... What a disappointment dealing with high prices and most items I tried lacked flavor. This place will not last 12 - 15 months. Not one restaurant has been successful at this location . We still do not have a palatable Chinese/ American in Bluffton . UGH!!!!! BTW - Take a look at the other reviews . I understand that restaurants are doing their best. My family and I are also trying to do our best to stay safe during COVID, which is why we ordered takeout. We ordered online, were given a confirmation number, and told that our order would be ready in 15 minutes. We ended up waiting for a total of 45 minutes, in a very crowded restaurant, where we were told that the 15 minute wait message is automated. Also, we did not see any parking spaces designated for Grab and Go. The food was delicious, and we would not have minded the wait had we been told a semi-accurate time in the first place. "Shorty" from Brooklyn was our server. Upon entering at 5:30 we got sat right away. Last time we went we had to wait 30 min. The food and service was exceptional. I had the lettuce wraps and they were outstanding. My husband had the honey chicken with fried rice and he was not disappointed. Both of our kids meals were delicious as well.one had wonton soup and fried rice with shrimp. They don't have children portions and kids could share meals but we try something new each time. Akomeya is a very nicely decorated space with booths and tables and banquettes generously spaced. The lighting is subdued but adequate. The menu is traditional "Chinese" fare: General Tso's, Moo Goo Gai Pan, Kung Pao, Sesame chicken, etc and the traditional appetizers and soups. The Edamame were the best we have ever had, plump, warm and nicely salted. Our Mains were very tasty and spiced as requested, not to warm but with a touch of heat. Entrees come with white rice but fried rice is offered for an uncharge ($1.50). We arrived about 12:30pm to a sparse crowd, plenty of open tables. We just had dinner and I was not impressed. Started off when we ordered Ice Tea and water. We got the water but the Ice Tea never came till we finally got the Server's attention. My wife ordered the Kung Pao Chicken. It looked delicious and was mixed with the celery and baby corn. Says there are peanuts yet none to be found. The menu says it is spicy, well it sure was. It was so spicy you could not eat it! My wife and I love spicy food, yet this was nuclear!! I gave half my Honey Chicken to her and as we were finished the Server finally came over to ask how our meal was. We told her that the Kung Pao was inedible because it was so hot. She got the menu and pointed out that it says spicy. We told her its to the point it burns your mouth. Wife said even if she ate the rice it still burned her mouth. You could smell the spices coming off the dish. She asked if she wanted another one. We declined and said no it's too spicy. I did notice a manager dealing with another customer's complaint about his meal. I would think being a new restaurant that the Manager would be going around to ask how everything was and getting feed back. Instead our Server just brought us our check and charged the full amount even though we sent a dish back that had 2 bites out of it. The menu was pretty limited since they did not have any tuna. So any tuna dish or sushi was not being served. The service was something to be desired and it was not that busy. For the price there are plenty of other places that I think are better and with better service. Since it is a new place, we may give it another try, but the risk of having to pay for another inedible dish may not be worth it. read more
