I've been coming to AK's Donuts for years, and I can't believe I never took the time to write a review. This has become one of my favorite local donut shops, and the owners are a big reason why. They're always friendly, welcoming, and genuinely appreciate their customers. I frequently call ahead to place my order, and they're always accommodating and have everything ready when I arrive. I was weary of this place cause it is rated a B... I decided to try it anyways. Okay the bagel sandwiches are delicious. I feel like donuts are pretty similar but the breakfast sandwiches were so good. I had low expectations but then my first bite of the bagel sandwiches was so good! Got donuts here for dessert. I prefer cake donuts and there were only a couple options left. It was mostly glazed donuts. Got the cinnamon sugar sprinkles cake donut. Very good. A little sweeter than I prefer but I liked the texture. Price is also very reasonable. Would've been great with coffee. We were told that this was a Korean donut place but I guess that's mostly because it's Korean owned. I didn't really notice any taste difference between donuts here and those I've eaten elsewhere. The gentleman behind the counter was very friendly and helpful. It's a small store in a strip mall. Parking is close and up front. Lots of seating inside. read more

Went into the store around 2pm no one was in the front which I don't expect them to be, I waited around for a bit no one was coming out I asked a customer sitting at the table if there was anyone here to attend? She said yes. I guess they heard me in the back a lady came out I asked her how much was the coffee? she gave a price for the small I asked the price for the med she pointed to the prices on the board and walked back to where she was at the back of the store never came back out. Usually it's not the best service you get from donut shops and I expect that so when you get good service then you know at least they are trying you know that little extra stuff but this shop couldn't be bothered. I've been coming here for many years. My favorite is their ham and cheese , love the fact that it does have cheese in it. I've tried other local ones and the cheese is nowhere to be found. January 29, 2023 stopped by our favorite donut place for apple strudels. They're always packed with people which is great service great donuts and strudels sandwiches coffee drinks great lottery also. I definitely recommend this place you will not be disappointed. Great mom and pop donut place. You can't go wrong here. I had two donuts and a medium cup of coffee for just $3.65. Great deal for some delicious coffee and tasty donuts. I love these independent donut places. Please keep supporting them so they can stay in business. Ak's also sells boba drinks, sandwiches, ice cream, and lottery tickets. My friend had a breakfast bagel and he loved it. I had a blueberry and a crumb donut. Both of them were light and not greasy tasting. Great job, AK!! The donuts and other pastries tastes fine and fresh. However, each of the four times I've been there over the yeas have been met with either rude behavior or just barely friendly. Usually I never respond to their demeanor, I just place an order and leave. Good food though! read more

Saturday was day-one of a double-down swim meet in La Mirada, and I always like to find a nearby donut place to sugar-up my teenage swimmer before his events. Ak's is arguably the closest donut store to the La Mirada swim complex, so I sauntered in before I'd had my morning coffee, and was greeted by friendly people and the delightful smell of a dark roast brewing in the perpetual pot. A couple of chocolate old fashioned, an apple fritter, and a bag of donut holes, and I was on my way out the door in two minutes. Oh and an industrial sized cup of coffee. Yeah baby. The chocolate old fashioned were good, but the apple fritter was divine: bigger than a lot of places with a conservative pour of batter into the oil... and big hunks of apple in the middle. Maybe the "heating up" in the sun on the dash of my truck helped, but it was an awesome one. All the usual other stuff you'd find in a donut shop: lotto, smokes, sandwiches, smoothies, and salty regulars who are on a first name basis. Me? I'm in and out... until the next time my kid is swimming nearby and I need a weak excuse to blow my "couple of good days" on the diet front. I'll see you again AK! read more

Do you remember when you were a kid and dreamed of the next time you would enjoy that rare trip to the donut shop on a weekend, and what a special treat it was? This place hit that nostalgia for me, in a great way. Not only did it fulfill my childhood memories of the donuts I love, but it gave me a new one as an adult. I needed breakfast on the way to HD and I decided to come here for the first time and see if they had any breakfast sandwiches. They have quite a few listed up on the menu. I chose the sausage, egg and cheese on a croissant. I was offed jalapenos to go on it, and after I got over a bit of my surprise I agreed. Holy smokes was this a great addition to my breakfast sandwich! They are pickled jalapenos and put on the sandwich but are not cooked. That extra little bit of crunch and flavor is like a taste explosion. LOVED IT! My new breakfast sandwich favorite! I would be remiss if I did not mention how good the croissant was. Tender, flaky, buttery, and pretty large. Everything I love in a croissant. Even the egg was cooked properly so that it was hard but not all dried out and rubbery. As for my childhood nostalgia being trigger here, it was the Glazed Old Fashioned and the Blueberry Cake Donut. Both of them were so tender, moist and flavorful. Tons of little dots of blueberry in that donut too. This trip to AK's Donuts hit a great nostalgia trigger that was a great way to start off my day. Now I need to find a nostalgia trigger for exercise to I can go back more often. Since coming here to post this review I noticed a few other reviews mention rudeness of the staff (which seemed to be the owners (a husband and wife team). Third time there and the customer service has always been bad. People there are rude, especially the man in the back that makes the sandwiches. I've greeted them every time and have never been greeted back. Can't go back to this place. When the donuts are fresh, they are really good but seems lately the donuts have been tasting a day or two old and very stale. I don't know what changed. And it's not like I'm going in the middle of the day, i am always there before 7. Customer service isn't great but not completely horrible either. While my wife had her hair done, I decided to take a walk. Saw this donut shop so I crossed Imperial Hwy to get here and eat a snack. The donut shop is nothing fancy. I believe they even serve ice cream here. There are some tables and chairs for dining in which is what I did. The donut prices are affordable. I think that they are Cash Only. There is an ATM inside just in case you don't have money. A Mixed dozen is $8.29. Individual prices range from 80 cents to $1.20 or a bit higher. I tried their Custard filled Chocolate donut for 95 cents. It was really good. The dough was as good as any I've tried elsewhere. Quality stuff! So 5 stars for this donut! I started this review believing I'd give them 4 stars. Honestly, though, I can't knock them off a star for anything on this one visit I had to their shop.
