On our second night in PR, we stumbled across this rooftop bar, located in a quieter area of old San Juan. It is one of two spots that we bothered to visit again before leaving the island. It isn't a popular find; we happened to stumble by as we were hopping around old San Juan and my ADHD husband noticed a little sign that said rooftop bar above. After climbing a long flight of stairs, we found a tiny bar with a tiny corner patio, overlooking two quiet streets. There are only about 7 tables on patio- we have never seen more than two being occupied. The drinks are ok- not the best, but not the worst. The prices are fair and not tourist gouging. One of the best spots you'll get in town is sitting out on the corner seats of the patio, where a breeze can blow by you as you have a 160* view of the city. Enjoy! read more

12/17/23- On our last trip to PR in 2023, we ended up walking the streets of Old San Juan going home. We happened to look up at the buildings and saw this rooftop. We didn't know where to get in or if it was open. We found a sign that said Al Fresco and a set of stairs. We started climbing until we found the rooftop bar. It was moody and just a cool spot. We were the only ones there. It was only 6pm, we were early. The bartender was just putting the chairs and tables out. He greeted us and asked what we were drinking. We ordered rum, El Barrilito. The oldest rum in PR. since 1880. We also ordered their tapas board. He was very friendly and told us the story of the beautiful historical building we were in. It was once the home of Puerto Rican attorney and politician and a leading figure in the Puerto Rico Independence movement, Pedro Albizu Campos. We had a fantastic evening. The weather was perfect for outdoor terrace seating while enjoying the views of Old San Juan. read more

On a Tuesday night that wasn't even THAT busy, we had what was the slowest service and worst dining experience of our entire San Juan trip. After 90 minutes, we still hadn't been served the majority of our food. Food was coming out of the kitchen at a snails pace, one item every 15 or 20 minutes. Not sure what the issue was but the staff offered no apology and just said 'it will come'. Even the drinks took a good 20 minutes to arrive. Totally disappointing experience. Expensive little cocktail bar that sits up high upon a rooftop. Once you venture up the stairs, there is a deck, bar and an enclosed seating area. Our bartender was pretty d*** good with mixology so it was well worth the money, however, if you are a wine or beer drinker, I would venture elsewhere. One of the most disappointing experiences here with a mediocre view. Not worth a trip. Period. Don't waste your money or time. First of all it was roped off. They let us in but said we couldn't use the balcony due to construction. There was no construction. So we grabbed the second best table. The chairs wobbled horribly. My friend dropped the menu because of the chairs and they took it from her like we were children. We ordered glasses of wine after the waiter made some Suggestions. The pours were decent as were the wine but the prices were outrageous. 19 crimes wine for $50 a bottle! Our glasses were $12. We then asked for a cheese tray. My friend asked if it could have a little meat because she eats it but I don't. They co firmed cheese tray with a tiny bit of meat. It was half and half. It had 6 pieces of meat, 6 pieces of cheese and 4 pieces of dry bread. No sauce. Or jam. About 6 walnuts. And $32! The servers were taking sips right out of the bottle behind the bar. Yikes. Then some other people were trying to get in and we had to tell them to wait. Nervous if they were closed we asked. The staff were like "yeah we rope it off cause we like to make people wait to let them In" I will say the bathrooms were nice, the location was a hit and the view was ok. The antique fee was a plus too. The pours were ok too. But $40 later I feel like I really wasted my time and money. read more

Horrible experience, we went there for tapas on New Year's Eve. Got roped into the $175 pre fix menu that wasn't advertised before hand. The courses were small round pimento cheese sandwiches followed by pepperoni and tomato skewers which only one was accompanied by a ball of mozzarella. For the final dish it was a small portion of dried pork with beans and rice that was the star of the show with mac salad and imitation crab on a ritz cracker. We did get party favors and a bottle of champagne but they charged us a 30% service fee and the service was abysmal. Overall this place was a scam for the views, would not recommend anyone ever visiting here unless for drinks. read more

This was one of the sweetest places we went to. We actually went twice! The first night, we met John who is from LA and gave us amazing recs. The second night, we met the owner Anna who is so sweet, accommodating, hilarious and generous. We asked if they had fried olives and the kitchen made them for us!! Ooof. This is going to be a rough one. The good: - this is one of the few rooftop establishments in Old San Juan, albeit there isn't much of a view. The bad: - there were only 3 or 4 menu items available. What did come up looked very disappointing. Hummus and peppers? Two small peppers slides in half with hummus smeared on it. - bugs. Awesome place with relaxing music. Very generous pours of wine and very good food. They also have happy hour on Friday nights of $5 sangrias. The outside rooftop seating is very comfortable and the inside area has a patio furniture which is very comfy. I will definitely come back. read more

We mistakenly went to this place thinking it was Mezzanine. Mezzanine's patio was closed and they told us to go upstairs for the rooftop. The only good thing about this place is the fact that it is a rooftop. The waitress warned us that it would take awhile for the food but we thought the food would actually be edible. It was disgusting. I ordered Drunken Mushrooms and I think whoever made them was drunk because they were salted so much as to be inedible. A very tiny portion that was literally sliced mushrooms in wine sautéed and it was $16! My friend ordered peppers stuffed with hummus and it was literally small peppers sliced in half with hummus slathered on it -- something you could get in your kitchen. They forgot my friend's wine and I had to remind them, and they constantly brought out drinks not knowing which table to take them to. When we had had enough, nearly 2 hours later, we asked for the check for what we had eaten and miraculously some of the rest of our order appeared. Fish tacos with grocery store salad on top with grocery store tortillas. We put $40 on the table which we thought was reasonable and got major attitude from the waitress. This was absolutely the best service I have ever experienced. John was like a family friend who was hosting a get together, he made everyone feel welcome and cared for. We could not be happier with our experience. The wine, mojitos, and piña coladas were perfect. We were taking some pictures and he even took some of the three of us so we could all be in them! First time here and it sounded appealing but it wasn't. The walk upstairs isn't bad. You just have to walk 3 flights of stairs. Good exercise. I went with my significant other. We ordered margaritas, ceviche, and tostones. For the Happy Hour prices, you could only get 2 drinks for 1 person and was told that sharing the second drink was not allowed which makes absolutely no sense; we instead decided to get 2 for the each of us. Unfortunately, we never got the second margarita because they had "no ice left." The ceviche was about $16; not worth it for the amount they gave us. It was in a martini glass. For $16 you can buy most of the material to make about 5-6 orders of ceviche. It was good food, just not enough for the price. The tostones were good. The service wasn't good at all and that is mainly because there was only 1 person working for the whole restaurant. I felt extremely sorry for the worker and it made us and the worker embarrassed. There's no reason why someone should be working alone serving customers. The business owner should work to get this rectified; this place will not last long if the same issue persists. Pros: Rooftop dining in beautiful Old San Juan. My glass of wine was good. The food was as good as any prepped grocery store food. Cons: The space is TINY, so be prepared. They squeezed every table into a very small space. The service was slow, the menu was overpriced and the staff was rude. The owner was pretty awful. They didn't have enough menus (there were maybe ten small tables and they had six menus?) so everyone in the restaurant had to share. When she saw a menu sitting on my table, she approached me, grabbed it, scowled at me and made a rude comment. It made me feel very uncomfortable. I thought the waiter would collect it if it were needed that much. It was sitting there, waiting for him. I want to add, it wasn't just my experience that was bad. Everyone sitting around me had to ask for the bill multiple times. We all waited at least 20 minutes after asking for it. I felt bad for the girls next to me, they asked before I did and were still waiting after. I also want to add, for being a wine restaurant, the staff was not knowledgeable on the wines. The server didn't know the names of the wines and only knew it was red because the menu said it. I've never been in a wine bar where the staff didn't know wines. There are far better, kinder, friendlier, more spacious and more delicious rooftops in Old San Juan. Don't waste your time here. read more
