Came back again for another family party, but this time I was pretty disappointed. The service was just ok - none of the servers offered to refill our bread basket, refill our drinks or bring pitchers of soda and water for the table. Instead they put the beverages in pitchers on a table in the corner and everyone had to get up and get it themselves so if there was no more soda or water you had to wait until they brought out more. The food was served family style. They had bruschetta as an appetizer and it was just bland and the bread was chewy - much was leftover. They served caesar salad and it was just ok - the croutons tasted stale. There were four entrees - cavatelli & broccoli which was was swimming in this liquid (wasn't sure if it was a sauce or water) and looked over cooked and I did not eat this; farfalle and vegetables (mushrooms, peas and carrots) - this I did eat and it was good; chicken with spinach and tomatoes (I think) - the chicken didn't look cooked and it was again swimming in this watery sauce - I didn't eat any of this and I noticed everyone else left it on their plate -- my sister in law said it wasn't good; and eggplant parmesean - this I did eat and it was good. I noticed that they served just enough chicken and eggplant so that there was exactly one portion for each person and nothing more was offered. There was some of the pastas left but I really didn't want any more. When it came time for dessert, whoever in the kitchen cut up the birthday cake did a terrible job. My sister in law got a huge piece, my piece was mostly icing and my sister's piece was a chopped up mess of a middle piece with no icing. They then placed two carafes on the dessert table for regular and decaf coffee - everyone ran up for a cup and they quickly ran out of the regular with no more coming out so we were left to drink decaf. There were no spoons to stir the coffee, no more creamers, and I went in search of splenda which was on a the beverage table. Not to mention the coffee was quite strong and three creamers didn't lighten it up much. Oddly the restaurant itself was very empty - we were the only party in the place and I know that because you have to walk past the main the dining area to reach the restrooms and there were literally no customers. Maybe it was because it was a beautiful day and every one went to eat someplace else where they had outside seating? All in all I personally would not come here to eat on my own as the service and food were lacking. read more

This place doesn't even deserve one star ! The Place is extremely dirty. My son got sick after eating a bolognese dish. We took him to the doctors to be told food poisioning. We complained immediately thereafter to only be told it never happens there and if we were unhappy then go some place else and we are not welcomed back. Not a way to handle a very serious complaint. I got take out for my wife and me. We ordered Ceasar salads, but what we got was salads without the dressing just Romain lettuce and croutons. my wife ordered Cavalli & broccoli which was swimming Garlic and butter, it was like soup not a creamy sauce like it should have been. I ordered Rigatoni Bolognese which was bland it was missing carrots, touch of cream and parmesan, and the noodles where very under cooked. Ugh. This place had rude staff that seemed more concerned with hanging out then working. And the food was soooo bland. The side salad that came with the dinner was swimming in an oil/vinegar dressing (more oil than anything). It tasted greasy, not fresh and it had been pre-prepped...the lettuce was limp and oily. Fantastic atmosphere, great people and even better food. We went with a group of 9 on a Saturday night. It was busy but we did not have to wait for anything. The food was delicious, portions were so big even the men in our group brought food home...and they NEVER leave food on their plates! Oh, and we could not get enough of the bread. My dad who is extremely particular about restaurants (because he is a self made chef himself) said he will definitely come back. My sons asked if we can make it the new birthday dinner restaurant. We showed up early on Father's Day after my daughter's dance recital. We didn't have reservations because we had no way of knowing when the recital would end. They looked at us like we had two heads when we said we didn't have a reservation. Keep in mind, they had about a dozen empty tables. The host went back to the manager to ask if there was anything that could do. She came back to us and asked if we wanted to sit outside. It was 94 degrees out so we said no. Again we got a look like we had two heads. She said let me go talk to ny manager again. Needless to say, we moved on and we won't me returning. read more

When I started going to Alfonso's/Alfresco's a decade ago the food was consistently good, and the staff was attentive. Years later, I only went to Alfresco's for the chicken wings because members of my party have gotten food poisoning on multiple occasions from the shellfish (primarily undercooked and oftentimes spoiled fish). There have been numerous instances of food poisoning from the salad dressing because of rancid oil, and the excessive quantity that drenches it. The staff is horribly horribly mean and I have witnessed atrocities done by the wait staff and owners to the longtime regular customers. Two instances come forefront to my mind: an elderly man with an oxygen mask and tank and wheelchair was seated for lunch with his daughter and had been waiting for their pizza for over an hour and a half and were finally able to flag down a waiter to ask them when their food was coming out. The waiter rolled his eyes and walked away. A short brunette waitress came back and informed them their pizza was not in the kitchen. The woman asked the waitress if they were still making it and the waitress responded with mean eyes and an attitude that they had knowingly sold their pizza to someone else. At that point Chuck, the owner, came over and instead of mollifying the situation, started arguing with the passive customer, calling these quiet, innocent customers names, and cursing at them and shouted at them to leave the restaurant and never come back. As someone who was sitting at the table adjacent to this couple, I heard everything verbatim, and was horrified at witnessing not only customers, but human beings treated as though they were vermin and lesser than excrement. The customers were not raising their voices, nor were they arguing. They just wanted to know if they could have their pizza. It wasn't just the waiters who instigated, it was the owner who gave his staff free run and egged them on as well. After viewing this atrocity I did not go back to this establishment for over 3 years. I went back a few years later and was horrified to know that those same waiters still worked there and it was that day that another incident occurred. Basically the same thing happened again where a young family got the wrong orders, and while trying to tell the waiters about the mixup because of food allergies, the owner Chuck, again, kicked them out. I didn't go there again until they changed names and locations, without realizing it was the same establishment. I didn't witness another incident like those, but the wait staff was the same from years ago as well as some new rude and untrained additions. I ordered the wings, the one thing that was consistently good, only to see that when they came out they changed the recipe and not for the better, mirrored by the entrees as well. read more

We have never had a worse dining experience. It took an extraordinarily long time for our main course to arrive. The restaurant was only about 10% capacity so I'm not sure why such a delay. Then one of the orders was incorrect. The waitress said "sorry" and that they could make the correct order in 8 to 10 minutes. Not sure how their clocks operate but it was 35 minutes by my watch. The waitress didn't seem to care about serving her customers. She never came to check on us to see if everything was okay. Perhaps that was a good thing because the food was poor to marginal. If you are looking for gluten free, keep looking. Pizza crust was like leather. The manager or owner seemed very unconcerned when my wife talked to him when we were leaving. So if you like really bad service, lousy food and a management that seems okay with that, then this is your place! Based on my experience, I would expect to see a new restaurant inhabiting this space next year. read more

I had to plan a repast following a funeral, but had to do it from another state. The staff was wonderful and double checked the arrangements. The uncertainty of the size of the group was something they were comfortable with managing. Frank was very helpful during the event and did not rush us. The family was able to visit freely. Frank also caught a mistake I made with the tip and approached me for clarification. The honesty was so appreciated, I would highly recommend this restaurant for a private party. read more

I have frequented Al Frescos with my family many times. Food is good. The one star is from our experience last night. I was looking forward to enjoying some good food with my wife and daughter. We arrived around 5:45 PM, and escorted to the main dining area toward the rear of the restaurant at a table in the center of the room directly in the path of the kitchen doors. At this point the restaurant was not packed, but had a few tables filled with diners'. Our waiter, a gentleman whose name starts with "R" took our order for appetizers and main course. Over the next 15 - 20 minutes other diners' arrived and were seated in our area. As we waited and talked, other diners' were being brought bread and butter, not us. While we joked about not needing more carbs in our diets, diners' seated 20 minutes after we arrived were served their meal. That was it for us. I put money on the table for the 2 sodas my wife and daughter had and got up and left. Upon exiting I asked two gentlemen by the bar and girl in the take out window if there was a manager around. They looked perplexed, but the girl said she would try to find someone. At this point waiter "R" came to us stating our food just came out. I basically said that waiting 45 minutes for fried calamari, garlic bread, mozzarella sticks and a pizza was unacceptable, while others were receiving more complex meals before us. Not sure whether we will be back. If so, we'll bring our own snacks to tide us over until our order arrives! read more

Decided to give it a try the other night and was disappointed. I ordered a gluten free pizza and it was the worst I've ever tried. It tasted like sauce and cheese on top of a potato pancake. Wanted to see if the food was any different than Alfonso's. We had Buffalo calamari which was a generous portion but the coating was not as crispy as others that I've had. I had the chicken portobello which was very bland and the sauce was thinnest. My husband had the tilapia francese which had no real flavor or seasoning. Our salad and rolls were delivered WITH the appetizer and about 7 minutes later our entrees were delivered. They were efficient but definitely not a meal to linger over. Wow - what a great night! We had a post-holiday gathering & the food was amazing. Two of us are gluten free & it was wonderful to be able to order almost anything off the menu. Usually we have food envy when we go out. I ordered the Chicken Trentino & my daughter got the Chicken Parmesan (both gluten free) & we both LOVED our dinners. Others had Lasagna & Pasta special with Sausage. Everyone loved their meals. Server was attentive on a busy night & leftovers abounded. Great experience. After being very disappointed by the last two restaurants that have occupied this location, I was almost hesitant to give it a try. The decor is absolutely beautiful and the space could be more inviting. The wait staff is the same group from their old restaurant and they are extremely good at what they do. These are the same owners of Alfonso's 202. As someone who enjoyed their food but didn't go there often because of the bright lighting, they have stepped it up with Al Fresco. The new location has a dimly lit area with fireplace - great ambiance. The menu offers much more complex dishes and nice daily specials. We've visited twice and have been very pleased with the food, service and ambiance. They've only been opened for a short while so I'm sure some of the negative reviews here were related to the new staff and kitchen working out the kinks. You may have to wait a little on Friday and Saturday nights, but it will be worth your while. read more

We had my daughters graduation party here. The staff was attentive and helpful with the setup for the party. The room was perfect for fifty people. It would be more helpful though to have the gluten free menu readily available online with a clear distinction that BOGO Tuesday night special is NOT extended to gluten free pizzas - to the extent that gluten free pizzas are not made at all on Tuesdays due to cross contamination concerns. read more

Al Frescos is a BYOB restaurant in Flemington, New Jersey. The restaurant has ample parking. We waited about 10 minutes to be seated and the reception area was very warm and inviting and the hostess was pleasant. We received good service and there was a variety of food on the menu, The food was delicious, I had a seafood dish which was very fresh and my husband had chicken Marsala which was also very taste and fresh. We finished with Tiramisu. yummy! The Ambience was great and can't wait to go back . We highly recommend it! read more

I LOVE Al fresco's!! It is a family restaurant with great food. I love that there is something for everyone and the staff is very attentive and friendly. My daughter loves the hot chicken sub! My husband and my son love the pizzas. The salads are divine and the portions are generous. The chicken soup is homemade, like my grandma used to make, delicious!! Saturdays are busy but worth the wait. If you have a large party and wait for last minute to call in don't blame the restaurant for your procrastination!!! We have always liked the food at Alfonso's on 202, but not the bright lights so we usually got take out from there, and and have been to Al Fresco's quite a few times since they opened. h Last week my husband and I went to Al Fresco's, ordered dinner, the waiter was a very personable, helpful young man. Not even sixty seconds and that is not an exaggeration at all, after the salads were brought to our table the entree was served to us! We just looked at the server who was not our waiter and said we were just served the salad a few seconds ago, she shrugged her shoulders & smiled. We later learned she did not speak much English, then why was she on the floor? She then must have indicated to this person who we were eventually told was the manager, that we were not happy about something, so he came over to our table. We told him our dinner came out about twenty seconds after the salad, he said he did not know why this happened, he is used to working at fine dining restaurants, such a stupid statement! What does that have to do with the food being bought out that fast? We have dinner out often they are not all fine dining establishments, some are just pizzerias/Italian restaurants, and not fine dining at all, they know enough not to bring the food out until after you are done with the salad! We told the waiter, who was a young high school boy, so it seemed he was, he said the manager tells that to everyone about working in fine dining and does not know why he keeps telling people that. The young waiter said it was most likely because there is no wait that the entree was served so soon, that is what we thought, it was very empty, although the kitchen staff should be told or know better. The young waiter had a lot more intelligence then the manager who after he kept telling us about woking in fine dining offered to send the dinners back and have them remake it, we were not doing that at all. This is the first time I have ever written a negative review about a restaurant, and we have been going out to dinner very often for well over 25 years. The chicken special was not very good either, we usually think their food is pretty good. Have a feeling we will not be going back there.
