The famous Kabob Combo! So Amazing
    Cliff M.

Stopped in for lunch and had my favorite kabob combo and tried their new cookies A++, a true Houston staple.

Whenever I'm craving fresh hot food and don't have the energy to think, Al's is my go-to, specifically THIS location. I have one closer to me in the Heights but the presentation, serving size, taste is never the same as the one on Waugh Dr. Even when I order via Uber Eats it hits. The gyro and gyro plate are 10/10 every time, and I've had it manyyy times. Also love that it feels balanced - protein, carb, veggies

Great spot for middle eastern food! Been here a few times. Always fresh and good service. Place is pretty authentic.

Run, don't walk to this unassuming corner store. I was so pleasantly surprised to taste and love everything on my plate. It's always an aspiration, but is still the best feeling when it comes to plan. The combo plate with gyro and lamb was to die for, the hummus was incredibly flavorful, the cucumber salad has the perfect combination of pickles/scrumptious vegetables, all tied together with the rice. I balked at the price but definition worth it. Service is amazing and quick, my order was done prior to my pickup time.

In the mood for some good Mediterranean food ? Check out Al Quick Stop. Uber Eats will also deliver from this restaurant. The food was really good and hit the spot on a Saturday night! I especially liked the lit Baklava. Definitely worth checking it out!

Coworkers wanted gyro/kabob for lunch and asked me for a recommendation. I suggested Al's and informed them it's been over a year since my last visit, but that when I used to go regularly, I was always satisfied. Well, today, we placed an order for 2 chicken kabob plates, 1 gyro with extra meat, and 1 hummus supreme with extra meat at 1235p(ish) via doordash. We received a notification that food was picked up at 1256p, and at 110p our driver was dropping it off. Unfortunately, all of our food was lukewarm-cold and both gyro meat and chicken were dry. My hummus supreme lacked flavor and extra meat that was paid for. All pita bread had to be reheated. Boss didnt even words for his gyro other than to say "do not order again." Sadly, more than half the food ended up in the garbage. Really hoped we'd be adding them to monthly rotation, but that won't be happening.

I've been wondering about all the high reviews for Al's Quick Stop! Finally decided to give it a shot cause the photos make the food look dang good! Placed an order for pick-up with Yelp and the food was ready by the time we got there! Maybe it's the novelty of it being a convenience store type of place - literally it's a store with most of the place cleared out for food! Almost like a taco stand. There's parking out in front and to the side of the place. We ordered the falafels - super crispy, tasted like burnt corn bread is what the bf said! Lol! They did lack flavor - even when dipped in sauce. Definitely wasn't the best falafels I've had in town. 3/5 The gyro sandwich - ok the redeeming factor for this place is the gyro meat. It was soft, it was tender and the flavors were good.. though the flavors are very light. It comes with some grilled onions and tzakziki sauce.. I didn't see any tomatoes but maybe it was served on the side with the pickled veggies. The pita was thick and pillowy. It was alright, but I've definitely had way better and way more flavorful gyros in town. 3/5 The hummus supreme - basically a layer of hummus with some gyro meat on top. Comes with a pita - but a different kind from the gyro sandwich pita. This one is thinner. The meat was as described above - tender, moist, seasoned well. But the hummus was lacking - I thought it was just ok as well. 3/5 Overall, Al's was alright. I wouldn't give it the ratings it has on Yelp and I definitely would grab the same dishes at other places around town. Would probably not come back here since I wasn't really amazed/impressed by anything we ordered.

Found this place randomly. It's interesting to find a small convenience store and a restaurant together here. They are running a promo with ordering from their website with min $15, get $3 off. That's a pretty good deal! We ate inside and the place didn't smell much like a grease, as you'd expect when the kitchen is out there and not in the back. Food came out fresh and ultra warm. Their chili sauce isn't so spicy. Staff was friendly. They had a lot of pickups too. Maybe a good spot for food delivery? Making mental note!

Hi, we've moved to Florida and I need a Lentil Soup fix. Al has the only Lentil Soup I really enjoy. Any ideas what kind of recipe I should search for online to make something halfway close? Curry Lentil soup? Brown Lentil soup? Thanks!

Hey! I would look up "red lentil soup recipes" or "Lebanese lentil soup recipe" either of those should get you on the right track.

Again this meal comes with the same enjoyable side salad with bread and I chose the Briami as the supplied side dish. The Kokkinisto (Greek beef stew) arrived on a bed of rice and covered in its herbed tomato sauce with garlic and onions. The Briami was in a separate bowl of stewed veggies in a light tomato sauce. I liked this meal better. The stew had good flavor with tender beef and a tasty red sauce. Also the veggies were good tasting too. I gave this meal a 4. Finally the waitress was very friendly. I believe her name was Jennifer? I like this restaurant and believe they serve good tasting and authentic Greek food.

Established back in 1977, this Greek café has grown from a humble walk‑up window into a full‑fledged neighborhood institution, beloved for its hearty Mediterranean comfort food and lively, come‑as‑you‑are atmosphere. The Montrose location stays bustling from lunch through late night, drawing in everyone from families to night‑owls to longtime regulars who've been coming here for decades. What keeps people returning is simple: the food hits. Diners consistently praise the authentic Greek flavors, especially the gyro plates -- a blend of beef and lamb shaved from the spit, tucked into warm, fresh pita, and finished with cool, garlicky tzatziki. Portions are generous without being sloppy, and the pricing stays reasonable, making it one of the best value spots in the neighborhood. Your gyro arrives stacked, your fries come hot, and your plate feels like it was built by someone who actually wants you to leave full. The menu is huge, but the classics shine brightest. The Greek salad is crisp and refreshing, loaded with feta, olives, tomatoes, and their famous dressing. Service here is fast, friendly, and efficient -- the kind of counter‑style operation where the staff keeps things moving without losing the warmth that makes the place feel welcoming. Guests frequently mention how upbeat and helpful the team is, even during rush hours. The vibe is lively but never chaotic: families grabbing dinner, couples sharing mezze plates, and regulars chatting with staff like old friends. It's casual, energetic, and unmistakably Montrose. One thing that sets Niko Niko's apart is its deep Houston history. The Fetokakis family has run the restaurant for nearly half a century, maintaining a strong work ethic and a commitment to quality that helped the café earn multiple Houston Press awards over the years -- from Best Pork Chops to Best Family‑Owned Restaurant. Even as the city has changed around it, Niko Niko's has stayed true to its roots: hearty food, Greek hospitality, and a community‑driven spirit. Whether you're grabbing a quick gyro, sitting down for a full spread, or stopping by for dessert after a night out, Niko Niko's delivers exactly what a neighborhood staple should: great food, great value, and a welcoming atmosphere. The flavors are bold, the portions are generous, and the experience feels like Houston -- diverse, warm, and full of character. If you're in Montrose and craving Greek comfort done right, this spot remains one of the city's most reliable pleasures.
