Gyro Plate
Sandra K.

We got a gyro bowl and the gyro plate and added an extra pita. It was really delicious. My two year old loved all of it from the pita to the meet to the hummus and the veggies. Everything was fresh and hot and a good amount of food. Really pleased there's a store in the heights now.

Was disappointed with my experience here. I have ordered from the original location many times in the past and loved it. This is my first visit to the heights spot and it was unfortunately subpar. Meat was overdone and crunchy, was original told they were out of tzatziki when our food was brought out but then they found some. Cauliflower was good! Overall just not the quality I expected or have seen in the past. Two small tables inside and window/bar seating. Parking is easy!

Don't be fooled. It wasn't good.

Wow. Such a disappointment. We got the schwarma plate and hummus with gyro. There was a lot of food but nothing was good. The chicken schwarma was extra, extra dry. It was a slow day so maybe the meat has been sitting out all day and they reheated it? That's what it tasted like. The salad that came with was confused about how it wanted to taste. The gyro was fine but the hummus tasted as if came from the grocery store. Finally, the pita was cold and hard. Atmosphere and service were lackluster.

Gyro Sandwich

Came here for lunch on a Monday to eat-in. They have a couple of 2-seater tables and several counter seats, but most people were getting to-go. I opted for the Gyro Sandwich plus a side of fries and their garlic sauce (more like a garlic paste as it is quite thick). Food came out pretty fast, and piping hot. Fresh! Everything was top-notch: the meat was juicy and flavorful, the veggies were slightly roasted and soft, the pita wrapping soft and pillowy. Add to that a topping of the tzatziki sauce and it was heaven, certainly best gyro I have had in Houston. Fries were standard, but perfectly crisp with a soft interior. Garlic sauce was a great way to dip, but my breath is certainly suffering for it! I was very surprised by the size and variety in the menu from such a small place. Can't wait to come back and try some other items!

We stopped by specifically for baklava since we were craving it. It was good and well priced. I personally like it a little bit sweeter, but I have a sweet tooth lol. It's still really good and not as gooey as some others I've tried. It's a very small shop, and parking lot is limited. My bf went in and said it was quick and easy to pickup! Will stop by again next time I have a craving for something sweet

Finally got to check out the new heights location after frequenting the Montrose location for years! Same great food and service! My favorite is the gyro so today I got a gyro sandwich with some French fries. I LOVE their Tzatziki sauce-used every last bit they gave me! Come check them out-they serve breakfast from 10 AM to 1 PM so I gotta come back to try that!

Chicken Shawarma Sandwich

Fresh, Authentic, and Delicious! I had the pleasure of dining at Al(s) Quick Stop in The Heights. The first time I ordered the platter it comes with fresh veggies, 2 meats on a bed of rice, hummus, and a very fluffy piece of Pita Bread. The meat is very fresh straight of the Rotisserie and moist, without the dryness in some restaurants off Hillcroft. On my second visit I had the chicken Shawarma Sandwich which is in my opinion the best in Houston! It was tender with fresh veggies and the garlic sauce is out of this world. I only imagine if I had added fries....cue (Homer Simpson GIF). It is nothing like the Halal Guys so do not expect the same flavors. I liken it to a true Mediterranean food experience. I reminisce on a good Hala Food Cart in NYC but fresher food! I also had the pleasure of meeting the owner. He was telling me the story about the name Al not Al's and his expansion into The Heights. My friend and I enjoyed his candor tremendously! If you're in The Heights don't sleep on Al Quick Stop. Good ownership and better food!

This is the hairs that I pulled out my food.

I ordered Gyro fries thru Lunchdrop. I took about 2 bites and the food was amazin, I opened the white sauce they give you to dipped my fries in it, when I opened it, it was a black hair in my sauce so It was easy to see. My hair in long blonde and black Don't was not my hair. No biggie... I removed the hair and just continued to eat my food. I'll leave the white sauce alone. took a few more bites of my food and it was another short black hair in my friea mixed with the melted cheese. I was disappointed at that point and couldn't eat the rest of my food. I would have given more start bcuz the food was good but I couldn't get past the hairs In my food.

The hummus was good, but the meat was over fried on the griddle. The pita were hard and dry. Did not care for the tabouli. Two stars

I had heard great things about the cafe at this new location, and had even tried their former location on Hillcroft a couple years ago as part of TooGoodToGo. While the concept is casual, the restaurant itself is very polished and feels like an upscale cafe. There is plenty of seating indoors as well as a huge patio outdoors. We opted to sit on the patio on a (rare) nice Houston day. The tables were spacious and the patio seating was very comfortable. We ordered the Kofta Kabob and Chicken Kabob specialty platters. These platters come with your choice of two sides - we went for the Fried Cauliflower, Tabouli Salad, Hummus, and Muhammara. The meats were so good and hit the spot. The Kofta Kabob had a complexity of flavor to it; so many spices that blended together really well. I will say that the post-meal burps of these spices were...smellier than usual. The Chicken Kabob was also flavorful and had a nice smokiness to it from the grill. I liked the slight crunch provided by the char along the edges. If I knew how to make chicken like this, it would be my daily meal prep! The Fried Cauliflower had a nice sear to it with lots of flavor. The Tabouli Salad and Hummus were comparable to those I've had at other Mediterranean places. The Muhammara was my favorite of the sides! It is a dip like hummus but also incorporates tomatoes, red bell peppers, and onions, among other spices; there was so much flavor to it and I could snack on this all day. The included pita bread was large, fluffy, and piping hot - perfect for dipping between the two side dips we got. Service was quick and friendly. The employee taking our order behind the counter was friendly and gave us the recommendation for the Muhammara - great rec. When our food was brought out and we had questions on some of the ingredients, the staff was very knowledgeable and knew right away what everything was.

The food is flavorful and seems more authentic as it's family owned and staff is very welcoming, helpful and friendly. We went on Saturday, got two Combo Dinners as you choose two mains and two sides. My husband got chicken and beef kafta with sides of hummus and fried cauliflower and I had beef kabob and beef kafta with sides of baba ganoush and greek salad. Upon delivery to our table (you order at counter) I was pleased to see the generous portion sizes then as we dug in, the flavors were yum! Even though there with many people there, there was plenty of seating and a nice sized patio we should have sat and enjoyed the cool breeze as it's on the East side of the restaurant. I don't think beer/wine or available so it's probably BYOB, didn't ask. The sweets looked really good. Abddallah's will certainly be one of our regular dining spots from now on. We should have tried it sooner!

The place is new but not recently new, so I was impress that they were still attracting a crowd. The place was packed and busy but the host was still able to seat us immediately. With reservation, of course. Our seat was a banquet seating and when the host directed us to our table, we notice the party seated next to our table had placed all their personal belongings on our seats. We had to ask the host to ask them to remove their personals so that we can sit down. I felt that the host should have done that and not upon our request. Our server was Keamogetswe and she jumped right into explaining the menu since it was our first time. I am used to ordering drinks first and while waiting for our drinks, explore the food menu. That way, we can ask questions about any item we were unfamiliar with on the menu. Anyways, we ordered our food and they came out very fast. For starters, we had the grilled shrimp which was just two shrimps. They were not prawns so the size of the two shrimps for $18 was not worth it to me. We also tried the Rumi's wings. They were average to me. Nothing to brag about. For the main course, we wanted to try several dishes and settle for a family style meal. We had the braised lamb shank, chicken kabob and the Koobideh Kabob. Since all plates came with rice, Keamogetswe suggest we try different rice options which was a great suggestion. So for the rice, we had the Adas, the Baghali and the Shirin. I have to admit that the braised lamb was amazing. The stew it sat in was very flavorful and the meat melted off the bone it came with. The Koobideh was also another favorite of mine. Both, I highly recommend everyone to try. And my favorite rice was the Shirin. As we moved on to dessert, we had the burnt honey & pistachio cake and the persian ice cream sandwich. Both taste great but the persian ice cream sandwich itself was vanilla wafer. Different but it made it easier to eat with your fingers. The weird thing was when the dessert was served to us, so was the check. I am used to us eating dessert or just starting to enjoy dessert before being handed the check. And when they do hand me the check, they would mention that it was no rush and when I am ready to take care of it. But that didn't happen and I decided to get it out of the way so I can just enjoy the dessert. As we were conversing and finishing our drinks, they started to clear our table and even picked up the signed check or tab. It felt like they were hinting us to get up. I feel that if there was a time frame to dine with them, they should have made us aware of it before dinner or when we made reservation like how Toca Madera does. So that made me feel uncomfortable. But this could just be me.
