Al Son de Mi Barrio (which means "to the sound of my neighborhood" in English), it's a little cute, hole in the wall restaurant at the corner of Atwells and Valley. My friend Mechelle wanted some street tacos and we decided on this restaurant based on the good reviews. We walked in and sure enough, there are only 6 tables in the entire place for a sit down meal....small, cozy and authentic. Since I speak Spanish, I said hello to the lady behind the counter and she was super nice and friendly. She brought the menus and asked what we wanted to drink, I said tap water.... We ordered some tacos and they were all Wonderful.... The corn tortillas were grilled and warm when they hit our table and the fillings were delicious. I had the chorizo, carnitas and barbacoa....all three were good, but the carnitas was outstanding...I will get that again next time I visit... My friend Mechelle got the asada and the shrimp and she loved both...the shrimp pieces were big and grilled.... Overall great service, friendly staff, excellent flavors and affordable prices... There is a small parking lot next to the restaurant and some street parking as well. If you love street tacos, this is the place...while there, I saw a plate of nachos go by and I will get nachos next time...their menu also has burritos, tamales, huaraches, quesadillas, etc....Lots of choices...... read more

My partner and I were craving tacos so we looked in the area and decided on trying this place and we were so glad we did. I got two Al Pastor tacos and a Horchata. The filling was juicy and flavorful while the tortilla was moist and the perfect texture. It's a small place, and even though we came around 2:30pm, it was still pretty busy with people coming in to eat. The service was friendly and very speedy. If I'm ever back in the area, I'd love to come have tacos here again. read more

Al Son de Mi Barrio Initially came into this restaurant and was told that there would be a long wait, so we left for about a half hour and came back. My girlfriend and I felt for the lady who was cooking (assuming she was the owner as well) because she was all alone and expressed that she didn't have any help at the moment. We came back and the cook made us some delicious tacos. We ate carne asada and chourico tacos. These tacos were good, nothing spectacular, but loved it's simplicity - meat, tortilla, onions and cilantro...that's it! Unassuming little place. The tacos were delicious. Everything tasted fresh. If you're close probably great for takeout as it's pretty small and there was a shooting barely a block away while we were there (around 5pm). As someone who is Mexican and grew up in California, I have struggled to find authentic Mexican food on the East Coast. Al Son de Mi Barrio tasted like home to me. Wanting to try out some cheap tacos without the obligation of purchasing alcoholic beverages, we were pleasantly surprised to encounter some of the best tacos we've so far in Providence. Don't let its no frills exterior deter you from getting the tastiest Al Pastor around. For $2, the tacos are packed full with the protein your choice. The torta was overwhelmingly large and delicious. At 6:30 on a Tuesday, there was lots of takeout traffic but few customers eating inside. Parking is pretty easy. We street parked around the corner, but there were ample spaces out front as well. We will be back! read more

The special taco with chorizo was especially tasty. Not much in the way of seating inside--3 high tops with 2 seats each, but the server was very attentive and answered any questions we had about the menu. We only went here because it was close to our Airbnb and we were hungry. The outside doesn't look like much but their tacos are delicious. Maybe because I was craving tacos and they aren't as common in the northeast as they are in the south but these really hit the spot. They are dirt cheap ($2-3) and served on soft pliable corn tacos. They have a better selection of meat than most mexican places in the area (i was surprised to see tongue on the menu) and all of their ingredients were very good quality. I have very little patience for gringo tacos when the real thing is so flavorful, inexpensive ($1.50/regular taco since this spot opened), and if you know where to look, no longer hard to find in Providence (whew!). Located in the at times nightmarishly busy intersection diagonal from the Price Rite-Eagle Square, Al Son De Mi Barrio is the dining-in offshoot of their stellar food truck regularly located off Manton Ave. This permanent space has 4 small 2-seater tables for dining in if you want, but there's been times it's been crammed with so many people it looks like the clown car at the circus. I've mainly gotten carry out b/c the space itself is very cramped, as in, take 3 steps in and you're at the register. I'd probably be a regular here if 2 things happened: 1. the street parking situation got better and 2. service speed regularly improves. Service in particular can be excruciatingly slow, so I'd ask what the wait time is before you pay. Because of slow service, I actually prefer their nearby taco truck, but it would be tough to find much better indoor tacos than these at this price point within a 20 minute drive from this place. Went here yesterday and had a great experience! I love mixed tacos and these are some of the best if you don't mind that mixed includes tongue and tendon bits. They were a little too much for me so in the future I will stick to the Carnitas and Pastor which are fantastic. The food is always fresh and prepared quickly by friendly and happy staff.
