Stopped in for RI Food Fights Taco Mania! Meats were mostly okay but chorizo stood out more than the others. I forgot to use their home made salsas so next time I need to use them for tacos because I think it would heighten the flavors. Birria ramen was decent. The soup had a pretty complex and deep flavor . Noodles were just instant noodles so nothing special. Burrito bowls were okay. It was pretty basic. Agua frescas were pretty good but was on the sweeter side. I personally liked the passion fruits one better. Service was relatively quick and good. Overall the place was pretty good. I was lucky that I was able to be seated but if I were to go back I would plan for take out. I would get homemade tortilla taco with chorizo again and maybe try their other options. Casa Azul used to be close to one of the places I worked, so I've been here many times. Moved to Boston but was in Providence recently, so decided to stop by. Overall, I really like Casa Azul, but their inconsistency kills me. I love a handmade soft corn tortilla. The first time I got tacos, the tortillas were perfect. The second time, way too thick. Third time, perfect again. And so on... I've had bowls and burritos where the meat was just room temp (which should really not be acceptable) or a little dry. But most times, it's hot and well-cooked. Flavors are great, prices reasonable, good drink options, staff is always very friendly. Not sure what the deal is with their inconsistency but I'd say it's 80% great, 20% just good. read more

I remember coming here a while ago and having high expectations this time, but I was not impressed. I ordered the carnitas red chilaquiles from the spring specials menu. The nachos were a bit cold, the meat was in chunks rather than shredded and seemed like it was just boiled rather than slow cooked to get a pull apart texture. My friend ordered the chicken tacos and they also looked like they were sloppily put together. There might be some items on the menu that are delicious but these in particular I would not try again. We were introduced to Casa Azul Taquería through RI Food Fights #TacoMania several years ago & it is always a fabulous experience! Just rated 94th of the best taco restaurants in the United States on Yelp. It is located on a weird strip of Allens Avenue but don't let that keep you away - the restaurant is adorable. Depending on the time you go, parking can be a little difficult but you can park on most of the streets surrounding the restaurant. I love everything about Casa Azul Taquería! Food is just so good, staff is friendly & the decor is cute. Lots of takeout happening because the restaurant seats only approximately 20 people inside with some patio seating out front. A nice selection of Mexican beers & a bunch of great margarita options. You can tell there is love in everything they do. The pork posole is to die for & while I'm not a vegan, it is great to see a menu dedicated to that option. Hubby wants to go back just for the birria ramen but I will fight him to get the birria nachos! I've visited several times and never ever been disappointed. The birria ramen was out of this world, but birria tacos are also amazing. I had some good ole carnitas tacos as well. The meat was juicy and flavorful without being super fatty. That's the key. Some places put all fat in your taco. The art is amazing, and despite the inspiration by Kahlo's eponymous home, the interesting and loud art on the wall is by Taryn Nunez. Clean tables and chairs, and a small outdoor seating area. I think their birria tacos are great but the rest of their tacos kind of fell flat for me? I had the carnitas, potato & chorizo, and the chicken tinga. The potato and chorizo could have used more chorizo but the potato was soft and flavorful. The chicken tinga was hot but lacked flavor. The carnitas tacos were a bit dry. Quality got worse after their move. I got the Birria tacos and consome as I have in the past and it's not even half way full. They didn't put a top on (carry out) and it spilled all over and into the bag. Lemons were dry and useless. Salsas are tiny and not even full so stingy. Tried this spot for the first time as take out. This cute little oasis is located just outside Providence with a view of the city at at would be great. Definitely have to come back after sunset to check THAT out. In the meantime enjoyed the indoor atmosphere and vibe. Very clean. The menu is broad but more surprising was the vegan options, I'm not vegan but have the choice is great. And it's not just a couple of items, they have a whole section designed with creative dishes and specials. Prices are great, $10 burrito and $14 for the special of the month- Shrimp Fajitas! We enjoyed our food down the road at India Point Park by the water across from a live country concert. LOL. read more

Came for the birria tacos, which did not disappoint -- incredibly flavorful and loved dipping them in the consome (which was definitely on the saltier side, but paired very well with the rice/beans I "borrowed" from other dishes"). We ordered the shrimp fajita burrito and the vegan chorizo burrito. Both were about 2/3 filled with white rice (which is way too much). We came here looking for some tacos We ordered some street tacos with homemade tortillas for an up charge Chips and salsa The chips and salsa was 4 bucks which was not worth it They were good but Most places just give you free chips and salsa The hand made tortillas were not good at all My son picked his up and took one bite and the whole thing just crumbled apart and was a mess The only reason mine didn't fall apart totally was because I basically had to 2 hand it to keep it together The flavors were mediocre at best I don't mind spending a few bucks to eat but I would expect a lot more quality wise for 42 dollars I don't like leaving bad reviews but there are so many more way better taco places within 10 minutes with better prices and way better depths of flavor I would take those hand made tortillas off the menu if that's how they are consistently I will say it is clean and the service was good read more

This updated review is long over due. I was out of commission for a bit and couldn't get to all the reviews piling up! But, this one is absolutely first. After my poor review, owner touched base with me promptly. Was very professional and apologetic. I was given a gift card and warmly invited back to dine. My partner and I found ourselves heading that way on Valentine's Day. We both worked all day and just wanted a little romance before the days end. Small, quaint establishment; which also closed an hour after we showed up. Was about to leave but, they insisted we stay, have a bite and enjoy our time together. We so did. The food was amazing. The server (I believe her name was Gabi) was attentive but, not overboard. (I love that) Even with them closing soon, we didn't feel rushed at all. The inside was so adorable. It made our exhausting day so much brighter. I ordered Chimi with tinga and a sprite. My partner ordered a chimi with Al pastor and a Modelo. Both delicious! We shared a chocolate raspberry cake for dessert. Even closing for the evening, they took the time to decorate the dessert plate. Big plus, the server offered to take some pictures. We came here to try the Birria Tacos + Consome reviewers were raving about. It was disappointing in that the meat and soup dip lacked seasoning and salt. The entire dish was pretty bland. The homemade horchata was okay. I've had way better. The vegan coconut rice pudding was also not very good; it was dry, bland, and the rice was hard--not the usual soft and creamy way pudding is supposed to be. So...why did I give it four stars? It's actually a cute casual place for dining in, which is unusual for a Mexican restaurant In northern Rhode Island. It's clean, colorful, and the artwork is creative! There's also a ton of street parking and the location isn't too crowded. They also have a few outdoor seating where we sat to stay clear of Covid. (My husband is due for a booster shot that isn't yet available. We're trying to avoid the highly transmissible Delta variant). I like that they offered complimentary chips with salsa verde and that the dishes were well presented.
