My reviews can come off harsh and I apologize in advance, but I am a Chef of 20+ years and I call it as I see it.... I had recently witnessed a sanitation nightmare at Pearls Deluxe Burgers in Alameda and I wanted to try out another small hamburger joint in Alameda. As far as specialized hamburger joints go, Alameda Grill off Park St. was not what I had expected it would be like. I will say though that the over all quality of the ingredients, bun, lettuce ect. were fine - but my double cheeseburger was boring and under seasoned. I was thinking about it for awhile and realized that all I was tasting was just the burger and the cheese hanging out inbetween the buns - and all were perfectly fine and good quality - but the seasoning - or lack of seasoning did not give me the wow factor I was looking for in my cheeseburger - it came across as flat in taste (as only unseasoned cooked ground beef can taste). I guess I would have liked to have tasted some onion powder or some secret seasoning blend to make the burger patty stand out, but it was just griddled ground beef with cheese - and had I have known, what I was about to taste, I would have brought home with me large amounts of condiments to make up for the lack of flavor. This really is a hole in the wall burger place. I love their burgers. They are big, juicy, flavorful, made fresh, and to order. Their fries are the big steak kind, and I can get them extra-crispy with no hassle. There is no indoor seating, the bench or tables outside are all she wrote. I adore this place. I can call in an order (I honestly have them on my speed-dial), and swing by to pick them up. My only issue is that it is easier to have someone drop you off to pickup your order than it is to stop off and pick it up yourself because the parking options are relatively limited: metered street parking, a pay lot, and two parking spaces that are shared with the bike shop next door. For the food, I give this place 5 stars. For the parking issues (which only really come into play when I'm picking an order up alone), I have to take away one star--just because this has been a hassle more than once. read more

It's usually a culinary red flag when a place claims to be the best at something. They claim they have the best burger in town. Hmmmm, I don't think so. I went there recently and ordered a bacon cheese burger. I requested several times that they cook the bacon crispy, u know no big globs of soggy fat right? Maybe because I said it so many times it pissed them off or maybe they just don't give a sh*t cause the bacon was hardly cooked at all. Unfortunately for me I took it to go. This place seriously kicks ass. By looking you couldn't really guess how awesome this place is. I usually order the Korean BBQ Burger. This burger is full of fuckin flavor. I like this place - it's the tiniest business I've seen in a while - hole in the wall is an apt description. There are no seats inside it's just the kitchen really. The kitchen is manned by two Korean women who crank out a variety of burgers, one of whom always cooks with a surgical mask - that's a little scary. Thin patties of beef, cooked through with a variety of toppings. I don't care for the fries, they serve the thicker steak fries. I usually opt for the onion rings - caveat, these are not true slices of onion, rather they formed from onion pieces, like the frozen kind you get from the market, but I like them. The burgers are delicious (and also, the fries), but I've had a very different experience with the people who work there than other reviewers. Maybe its because I usually come near the end of their day and they've lost their smiles, but I've always found both the older and younger lady to be very unwelcoming. It reminded me of walking into the DMV. Also, when they say that their closing time is 6PM, they really mean that they stop serving much earlier so they can be gone by 6:00. Don't arrive 10 minutes before closing and expect to get a burger, because they'll turn you away. This could be a really great burger place with just a few improvements in customer service and extended operating hours for the dinner crowd. read more

This is the best burger place in town. If you're strictly talking about the food. Pretty much take out only. They have a few benches and seats outside. But I usually just take out, so it's not a problem for me. The burgers are great! Fresh ingredients, not too meaty or greasy (like Burgermeister) and just the right size. Their basic burger is just a bit larger than a double double. My all time favorite is Fat Burger, but with none around Alameda, this joint serves me just fine. And , they have other yummy sandwiches, too. Since it's Korean-owned, they have an awesome bulgogi sandwich. It has mushrooms and onions sautéed into it! Their Philly cheese is also one of my top picks. They must use some high quality lean meat, because none of their sandwiches are ever that greasy. Their fries are thick-cut steak style. I prefer skinny, myself, but they do have other options for the fryer, like onion rings, and curly fries. After a rough day I decided to treat myself to a burger and sweet potato fries at Alameda Grill. I walked in at 4:40pm (closing time posted is 6pm) and there were burgers already cooking on the grill. Was so looking forward to it! Stopped in here for a double cheeseburger w/bacon and some of those big fat fries for lunch today. I'm glad I did! WHereas the "Red Onion" place at the other end of Park Street overloads their burgers with so much stuff that the actual BURGER gets lost, the Alameda Grill does it RIGHT! Yowzah! One of the best burgers I've had in a long, long time! ANd those big fat steak fries were perfect...just the right crispness, hot as could be. The burger itself? Just about as close to burger perfection as it could get. The bun was perfect. Just a hint of crunchy where it contacted the grill. The two patties were cooked and stacked perfectly. The bacon was right. Onion, tomato, lettuce, all of it was just right. It stayed together as I ate it...it didn't slop out all over everywhere and require a fork to finish. It was one righteous burger! Sure, there's almost nowhere to sit, but you know what? That adds to the experience...it's the "community burger hut"...you're up close and personal with your burger and your neighbors, and it's OK. I would almost knock off a half-star for lack of fountain drinks, but that seems to be the norm here in Alameda. Almost none of the hole-in-the-wall type places I've been have fountain drinks, just cans and bottles. But that's really ok, too. Tried the Deluxe Korean BBQ Veggie Burger for the first time, and I'm definitely a fan. The hot sauce is such a perfect addition. We've been here a few times and it never fails to satisfy. The burger bun is pretty basic, but the fillings and toppings were quite yummy. It's not gourmet, but one of the best burgers for the price range $7 - $9. Alright, I promised myself to write a review after visiting this place for the first time today. They might remember me for ordering SWEET POTATO FRIES today. Their service is great! The people who run this business know how to please their customers and accommodate to their requests. It was indeed a pleasant experience. Must be one of the better burger places I've been to. Meat patty could use a bit more seasoning to it, but you can always season it according to your taste. Today, I had a giant cheeseburger with mushrooms. The bun and all the trimmings were good. I just added a little bit of ketchup, and I had a great lunch. Wait time was less than 10 minutes for my order to come out. Outside seating certainly not adequate for the number of customers who dine in. But I saw several customers who obviously called in and had their orders to go. Either way, you'll certainly enjoy their food. I frequent this area for other food establishments, and I find parking really not much of a problem. Never look for parking space along Park St., go a block away, and there's plenty back there. Will definitely come back... read more

I really hate to to do this but Alameda grill has done me wrong for the last time. Alameda Grill does indeed make a good and cheap burger, mind you the meat is frozen so I would expect it to be reasonably less than places that use fresh meat. They also have a good selection of other stuff so if you don't want a regular burger this may be the place to go but be forewarned sometimes the fries have a very bad aftertaste I take that as a sign they do not change their frying Oil as often as they should. I used to go here when I wanted something that was cheap and consistently good and usually I chose Alameda grill because it is really close to my house. I usually didn't mind the wait, which can be long if there are orders ahead of yours between 10 and 20 mins. The plus is; this place is great for people who live on the island because it can be tiresome to make a long drive when all you want is a junky ass burger. I really like their cheeseburgers but the last two or three times I have been waiting for ever, the last straw was when the old Chinese lady behind the counter made someone who's order was after mine, before mine. She did it to me the visit before as well but I shurged it off. The young women who runs the cash is very nice and every time she has served me it makes me want to come back beacuse she really puts fort an effort but the old lady must observe the unspoken rule of serve colored people only after white people. I don't know how else to explain it. I wanted to ask her myself but she quickly nodded me away with a NO...you next. OK.... it does not take a genius to figure it out: an order comes in a full five minutes after mine and it is the same order the exact same thing, if I see that person leaving the restaurant with an order identical to mine and I have to wait an additional five minutes for my order there is definitely an element of bad business. I came back here recently because I was reminiscing about how good this place was in high school. It tasted a lot plainer than what I remembered and I got the cheeseburger. Maybe under new management? It was just okay, it wasn't terrible tasting or anything, just not super flavorful. But the reason why I'm giving it 1 star is because I had the worst food poisoning experience in my life shortly after eating here. The Korean burger is the best and depending if you like it really spicy-they have a deluxe version with jalapeños and cheese. These gourmet burgers are well priced at under $8!
