Worst movie theater ever !!!! Bad customer service .. extremely rude workers I will never ever return to this movie theater ever again

I've come here a few times and was disappointed every time. Saw the recent Spider-Man and the theater had an issue where the last 10 minutes and end credits didn't show - just a black screen and audio. Most recently I saw the Batman at a late screening but when the movie ended, no clean bathrooms and no bathroom tissue in half the "available" stalls. A full line of stalls and only 2 probably had tissue or no traveling piss puddles. The staff then had the nerve to bark at people looking for a bathroom on a different floor. This place could be so much better and I like the concept. However, they fail so much with basic things like a bathroom checklist and functioning theater equipment. I've also only come at night so maybe they have a more efficient operation during the daytime... read more

If you like movies, specifically cult favorites and you like having a cold beer with truffle popcorn then The Alamo Drafthouse is the place for you!! My friend and I recently snagged some tickets for the "Multiple Maniacs" updated version for the big screen!! Also with a Q&A with the Prince of Puke himself, John Waters!!! And his autographed new book "Make Trouble"!! I know ..dreams do come true. I, in typical fashion was double booked and I was down to the wire arriving. Thank goodness for reserved seats. My friend and I ran in and quickly wrote down two waters and two Flower Power IPAs on a little order sheet and stuck it upwards. It was just as quickly picked up and just like that we got our drinks. We also couldn't resist the giant bowl of truffle popcorn. It was the perfect choice for us. The evening was perfection from the service to the film to the Q&A! I applaud the Alamo for keeping the standard and experience as wonderful as my introduction to the Alamo in Austin TX many years ago. After the movie one can not resist a selfie on the Shining patterned rug!! And then there's the extremely interesting and morbidly beautiful cocktail bar and restaurant at the House of Wax. This place could not be a more perfect date night spot! Hint hint, nudge nudge! I can not wait to return and try some more of the food and have an after movie cocktail!! Love this place! read more

Went for easter with my hubby and kids to see sonic2. Let's start with the good. Friendly staff as we walked in. Big spacious seats but they do not recline . Get there a few minutes early to be able to order . We ordered burgers they were delicious. Fries a bit salty. Ordered a pizza for my youngest had to ask what happened to it twice. Finally i asked for a manager he put pizza on the house .Even with putting the light on service was terrible. Waited forever for refills. Our main waitress Grace I didn't see her again until i had to flag her down about pizza which she clearly never put in order. Then at last i saw her when she gave us bill. Nice theater BUT must do better with the food service. Especially with their prices read more

If a new movie is out, I pray they're showing it. Always an enjoyable experience. The waiters/food prep could be a little quicker but I get it, it's usually a packed theater. The Parmesan truffle popcorn deserves 5 stars alone. read more

This was a fun spot for a date night this summer, especially to see the premiere of the little mermaid live action! First impressions: I was a bit disappointed to find out that the seats weren't reclining in the theatre, only the first row, which sucked because I specially looked up reclining theaters to find this spot. However, since it is sort of a "full service movie theatre," the staff was super friendly and knowledgeable to newcomers, and the food service was prompt and easy to follow. I will say the food was pretty average, but what else can you expect from a movie theatre. Overall would recommend... unless you want reclining chairs. read more

Finally! I no longer have to venture to Jersey to experience a dine in theatre! Last night I visited the Alamo Drafthouse for the first time... and I must say, what a lovely addition to the City Point "mall" or whatever you want to call it. We purchased our tickets online, so there was no need to wait on a ticket line when we entered. Just a side note, not all of the chairs are reclining, so if you want a reclining one, make sure you choose that option when you purchase your tickets. There were PLENTY of food and drink options to choose from. A tad bit pricey, but worth it for the complete experience. I can't wait to return again! read more

Conceptual it's such a great idea. The idea of eating and having alcohol beverages from a restaurant menu than buying overpriced snack food is a phenomenal idea. Our waiter was great he explained how it worked. You simply write your order on the sheet of paper and place it standing on your table. There's a tiny light under you table to see. Positive: The food was very good. Shockingly good. Not like a movie theater good but restaurant quality good. Waiter was great guy. Negative: The wait staff walking around giving bills. I don't understand the arriving 30-45 minutes early rule- it makes the process extremely strenuous. On top of that wait, they showed very awkward previews. Disclaimer: I'm judging this based on a private viewing where we rented out a theatre for our large group for a school event (~35). Before this visit, I didn't realise I had actually been here before, on a random day when my partner and I were just avoiding the cold of downtown brooklyn 2 years ago. Flashforward to now with a school group, I was preparing for the worst - sticky chairs/armrests, shoes sticking to the floors, bed bugs in the seats, the smell of farts in the air. To my surprise, none of the above. We went to guest services and the manager who was taking care of us came down shortly - he was extremely professional, courteous, and patient with 30 teenage children who were all itching for different things. Our package came with unlimited fountain soda and pizza. I was imagining a stale slice of Costco Kirland off-brand frozen pizza microwaved, but we were actually served individual flatbreads each. I was THOROUGHLY impressed with this, though looking at the menu I was a bit taken aback by the prices - $10 for popcorn, $12 for pizza, etc. While I do expect the concession stand to be exorbitantly priced, these were incredibly inflated. However, we were given a headsup from the manager that should our children decide to buy anything, we needed to be wary because of "hidden surchages" - tax, and an automatic 20% gratuity fee for services garnered in our private viewing theatre. I appreciated the full transparency from their staff, and it made me really trust them. The experience overall? Impeccable. I'd definitely come back here with another group again, and am interested in coming with friends/partner. The only thing that worried me a bit was that after one student got a wrong drink order, it took them about an hour to get the correct one in...Also, the "unlimited fountain soda" was a bit of a disclaimer because after the initial taking of orders, no one ever came back in - understandable, to give us privacy upon viewing, but they were no easily reachable outside the theater either. read more

The screens and seats are excellent at this location. The bathrooms were not really clean, unlike the Manhattan location. Compared to the location in lower Manhattan, this is not as beautiful a layout or space. It feels less high-end than the Manhattan location, but the building is still relatively modern. The Manhattan location has a video rental store with over 50,000 VHS and DVD's that I believe you can rent for free. This location has a kind of wax museum by the entrance but it seemed to be pretty much closed off to people and was behind a curtain. For a date, i would recommend the Manhattan location as it all feels more upscale and clean. I still recommend it highly as the seats were very comfortable, the screen was excellent (although not a Dolby screen) and you have unique options for re-releases for classic movies. read more

The concept of having a meal and watching a movie is harmonious. Alamo isn't the only game in town but it is one of Brooklyn's original. Beyond having the luxury of a served meal at your seat you also book tickets (and seats) in advance. I can't go to the movies any other way. Long gone are the days of getting there 30+ minutes early to get the right seats for you and your family. Now you do this in the app or online and roll in just as it's about to begin (you can even arrive a little late if you don't mind missing the trailers and funny "don't text here" announcements). The food is high quality and there's brunch and lunch options. There's also some yummy cocktails you can order. I'm partial to the bloody Mary's and the dark chocolate shake with vodka or tequila - amazing! I've always dug the vintage vibe they have here with retro posters and speakeasy style bar you can hit Pre-show. The only thing holding them back from a top 5 stars is that over the times I've been there they are hit or miss with service. We've ordered things that haven't arrived and it's a little difficult to flag them down during the movie (even with the system of leaving your card up to attract their attention). Things happen, but they weren't apologetic about it nor did they provide any compensation. Lastly, and good to know for families, they didn't want our 4 kids (all 5-8) sitting in the row in front of the adults. They claimed it was some policy which annoyed me and was BS. Movies, comfort food and a strict no-texting rule are great highlights from the brand spankin' new Alamo Movie Theater. Now, let's deconstruct in practice of this new mega movie theater in downtown Brooklyn. The building is new construction so these theaters are large stadium size with a table between two semi-reclined seats. This is not the smaller intimate Williamsburg Nitehawk Theater screens. Larger screens are great but how does that work in practice in the service black hole of New York City. In our movie, Rogue One, we were in the third row so it is difficult to say that there was not texting but there was definitely a clear message of a no texting zone. The only major issue was the baby which was crying for two longish spells in pivotal scenes in the movie. On Sunday and Wednesday before 12-noon, the Alamo is open with their 'Alamo for All' movies for all which means that people can bring their babies. I did write feedback into these regards to the Alamo which did assure me that this is their policy. I guess if you steer clear of matinee movies on Sundays and Wednesday then you will be okay. The Alamo is still new so there are going to be growing pains but there is a bait and switch feel in the sense that I specifically sought out the Alamo brand because of their no talking style and there is this Alamo for all. For décor and overall experience minus the crying, it was very good. The food is not amazing but you are in a movie theater. We stayed with appetize, popcorn and a shake. The popcorn bowl was large and good. Upon request, you will be served water with large cups. Our server was very helpful overall and there was no issue with ordering. For ordering, you write everything on the sheets and leave it on the bar. Our food came relatively quickly. We ordered For the full food order, we got popcorn with Truffle Parmesan Butter§ $9. The truffle butter was worth the extra dollar. We had three appetizers; Fried Pickels with Buttermilk Ranch for $8, Thai wings with celery, carrots, blue cheese dressing for $12.50, and Baked Pretezels with Brooklyn Defender Beer Cheese Sauce & whole grain mustard for $9. All the appetizers were good. I liked the fried pickles and pretezels were easy to eat in the dark. The Thai wings were tasty but it is not the easiest to eat in the dark. Finally we finished with a Strawberry Cheesecake for $9. The shakes can be made with alcohol which is fun option. Special note for the Star Wars Rogue One screening, there was a special menu which was stated to be inspired by the tropical climates of sunny Scarif. I really like that they would have a special menu for movies. For the overall experience, I would hope the Alamo staff will work to earn their reputation as a good place with quiet text free and noise free screenings. I love going to the Alamo. However their kitchen/waitstaff service has been sorely lacking the last several times I've gone. Had to send a reminder note for both mine and my gf's order, which we placed BEFORE previews and didn't receive until over halfway through the movie. They served her dinner plate a full 20min before mine. Sure, there's an overwhelming number of orders to fill in the big theaters. But don't promise what can't be fulfilled. Until that system is better figured out, don't order food unless you're in a small theater. Stick to a drink and popcorn. read more

First off, awesome experience, I found free parking a block away (wednesday night) and the House of Wax bar and novelty clothing etc sold when you first walk in, totally cool. Get there early, 20 minutes at least, restroom (huge ladies room and smells great, super clean.) Peruse the menu - something like 20 beers, sandwiches salads flatbread noshes ...free refills on soda ... Large glasses of water...gosh I had to pee so bad but I hate missing any minutes of a movie ! Great service. Movie was 2 hours, I started to get uncomfortable in the seating after about an hour 15. I've gotten spoiled with the reclining sofa seats in Westbury. :/ read more

A little over a year later and I am still a fan of this theater! In the past year they have changed things up a bit in the lobby where there is now a geeky gift shop of sorts that sells everything from their Tiki mugs to T-shirts to board games. Also, when certain movies are playing sometimes special merchandise is sold down there as well. I feel like the staff at this branch has really managed to get into a groove now. When I first went the theater was still young and the staff somewhat inexperienced. Now everything flows super smooth and everyone from the box office (or counter if you prefer) to the waitstaff do an excellent job of being friendly and efficient. Seating is a pleasure here. You get to pick your seats beforehand, so no need to panic about getting a good seat. Also, the seats are super comfy and there is plenty of room under the seats to stash your stuff (even hooks under the tables!). The menu is changed every now and then, so if you really like something it may or may not be on the menu next time, but you'll likely find something else you like! I continue to be a fan of the Alamo. I feel it is a better experience now than before. read more

Alamo Drafthouse first entered the New York Metro market when they opened their Yonkers location back in 2013. While I was initially apathetic over its opening, it has slowly become my favorite theater to see movies - and now it's pretty much the only theater I'll go to. In 2016, this location in Brooklyn opened, and I hear two more are in the works for Manhattan and Staten Island oooh. While it's most convenient for me to go to Yonkers, this location was having a special showing that I really wanted to see. That being said, I decided to take a trip to Brooklyn and check it out. Everything about Alamo speaks to me - the aesthetics, the food, the details they put into their movie marathons, the cult classic screenings, the theme nights - just everything. Besides that, what sets the Alamo apart from other theaters is the fact that they serve food and they have a strict no talking/texting policy. You also need to be on time - latecomers will not be allowed entrance to the theater. This Alamo is located on the top floor of City Point Shopping Center in Downtown Brooklyn. The theater actually has two levels; the actual 4th floor of the mall houses the theater's main lobby and box office, as well as a bar and small gift shop. A small escalator inside the lobby will bring you up to the theaters. I was really impressed with the lobby bar - it's large, impressive, and overall superior to the bar at the Yonkers location. The seats in the theater were nice and comfy, though I have mixed feeling about the tables in each row of the theater. It's set up so two seats share one table; while that makes it easy for people to get up if they have to, it can be awkward for people sitting next to strangers. Food and service were good, similar to my past Alamo experiences; this isn't a restaurant so I don't have high expectations for the food but all things considered it's good. They have a nice variety of options and do a good job with theme dishes for the season or certain movie showings. I would definitely recommend taking the subway or Uber/Lyft to get here - this is a pretty dense area of BK and street parking is really limited. Overall, I'm a fan of Alamo and would definitely recommend going at least once. Even if you just want to see a current release, for me the entire experience is superior to a regular movie theater. read more

No milkshakes on a Saturday at 3:25pm. The menu here is understandably limited. However, that they would run out of an entire section of their menu (they offer several kinds of shakes, it's kind of one of their big things) is a little absurd. On top of that, shakes are really their only dessert item, besides a small selection of standard theatre candy. So if you were excited about having a little sweet treat, like you can at other theaters, you are out of luck here. As for the other food, the lemonade and the ranch dressing were both watery. Add to that the sticky tables and the inability to see the call button because the theater, even pre-trailers, is so dim, I was left me pretty unimpressed. I would really only recommend this for smaller movies (as their screens are pretty small), and if you get there in enough time for you to order and not feel rushed, or worried that your food will come at an inconvenient time in the story. I love Alamo. You get to pre-pick your seat so you always know exactly where you'll be and there is no rush to be there uber early to find the center (does anyone else do that, or is that just me?) Their menu is really good. I've been there a dozen times and I try something different each time and really love it. They have a no cell phone and no talking policy which is the best thing ever. I wish every theatre implemented this rule because it really makes for a perfect movie experience. Lastly, and this is a small detail but it's really nice. Their menus and the commercials before the movie tend to be tailored specifically to the film you are about to see. I always find it so neat. Alamo is delightful. We decided to check this place out. It's been open for some time but we never got around to go. Parking was a hassle. However, the trip was totally worth it. It was a really nice experience. We ate at the DeKalb Market so didn't get a chance to eat here. They do have a pretty decent food and drink menu. The seats did not recline which was kind of a bummer. Service was great. Prices were reasonable. It was nice and quiet during the movie, which it always should be, however not always the case. They have a bar that you can hang out until the movie begins. Make sure to be there on time or they will not let you in. I recommend purchasing tickets in advance. Overall, we enjoyed ourselves. read more

I'm sure the movie theater experience is pretty good with all the four star reviews I am reading about. But we showed up for a screening and as the advertisement for the screening said to be one hour early. Exactly what we did. We stood on line with a bunch of other folks and waited an hour before the line started moving. Pretty much about two dozen people at the end of the line was given t-shirts and turned away because the movie we came for is full to capacity. Yup, my group was one of them. And they ran out of t-shirts. LOL. Terrible. So, the solution was we put our names on a list and contact info on a sign up sheet for the next screening. It's been several days now and no follow-up. Customer Service seems nice but that doesn't provide a solution. Anyway, we did check out the theater a little even though we did not catch a showing and it seems like any other movie theater. It is a small theater with leather seats and each Screen has an attendant. It also has elevators and and escalators. The lobby has a couple of electronic kiosk to buy tickets and you can buy tickets with seating selections online. I would consider returning to the Alamo Drafthouse. But for my recent experience it wasn't a let down at all but not good. read more

Went here for their Clueless movie event on September 12,2018. This was my first time ever going to an Alamo theatre. Location: This is right inside of the complex where Dekalb Market, Trader Joe's and Target is located. The venue has a bar that looked super lively that you can go chill in and not need a movie ticket for. It also has a set of nice restrooms right there on that main level. The theaters are up the escalators in the lobby area that a part of their gift shop. There are also larger bathrooms up the escalator. Protocol: Once you get in the theatre you can find your seat and sit. I found their numbering system a bit confusing so I asked an usher/waitress who checked my phone and instructed us on where to go. If you know how to find your seat alone when the waitstaff comes to you they will verify you have a ticket and then take your order. Menu: Fully extensive you can skip eating before you get here because you can have a seriously filling meal here. All we got here fries which were tasty.They also serve alcohol so you can get your drink on! The drink list is extensive as well. Movie experience: The seats are very comfy and there doesn't seem to be a bad seat in the house... unless you're in the very front. I was in the last row seats 3&4 and we saw perfectly. It's stadium seating so no ones head was in my way! If you get cold easily bring a sweater or something because they spare no expense with the ac... maybe it's to keep the people who are boozing it up comfy. FYI: After the previews, the screen announces that from that moment on it's a quiet theatre and anyone who is talking will be made to leave with no refund. No texting, no talking, no laughing or heavy breathing- okay I made up the last two! They also state if there is a loud table near you notify the staff aka snitching is now acceptable behavior in Brooklyn! This was a highlight of my experience because I hate talkers, texters and commentators at the movies. I'm happy to report that no one violated the rule and no ones phone went off during the movie! HURRAH! Overall: I would definitely come back here for another movie in the future, but not too often since their prices are steep! read more

I've been here a few times, so I figure I should do a review! Service: I tip my hat, and my wallet to the servers. They have to do their job, and be sure to stay out of the way of the audience, and they do just that. Be sure to tip them, being all sprinty and bending over constantly, just thank you servers for being so awesome and friendly. Food: The food has always been super tasty, and the drinks PHENOMENAL! I had a rose milkshake, and I've been raving about it since. Inside: The bar and stores are super fun to look around and find some odds and ends gifts (obviously a tad marked up, but its new york- it's business). Con: ONLY complaint, is that the chairs don't really recline- so you kind of move around a lot to get comfy, and as most theatres it's chilly- but I tend to have a small blanket (literally child size) with me and no one seemed to care! read more

This review is for vegetarian and vegan people! Alamo drafthouse has reasonably priced and tasty food for a movie theater. They also have a separate vegan menu and non junk food options such as kale salads and tofu quinoa bowls! The popcorn was somehow the worst of the options see below for breakdown: Truffle parmesan popcorn: unfortunately the popcorn was semi stale and I was not a fan of tons of powder on my popcorn. Prezels with queso: Awesome and flavorful queso. Southwestern Tofu quinoa bowl: tofu was well seasoned and tasty! The top of the bowl was flavorful but the quinoa itself was bland. Could have used a bit more seasoning and veggies. Grilled vegetable sandwich: Best item of thr bunch was surprised at how fresh bread and veggies were and how great it tasted. I can't believe it took me so long to review this Alamo. I've been an Alamo Drafthouse fan since I first discovered this wonderful gem in another state. When one opened up in Brooklyn I thought it too good to be true. I love everything that Alamo Drafthouse stands for. No talking, no unaccompanied children, no cell phones, no disruptive people. Also there's a full menu of food and drinks. What more could you ask for from a movie theater? The food is always good (but don't come here expecting 4-star cuisine, that's not the point), the seats are comfy, and every seat in the theater has a good view. Unlike other theaters that try to cram tiny seats in every available nook and cranny, the Alamo sets the screen far enough back that even the front row has a pretty good view. My favorite movie theater to go to in Brooklyn. Big, comfortable chairs; available food and drink; plus an easy-to-get-to location. Being as popular as it is, getting tickets can be tough. Multiple times I have stopped over only to be turned away by sold out shows (thankfully there's an eatery downstairs to pass time). However, the process inside is simple - get to your assigned seat, use the lights under the table to look at the menu, write what you want on the placard and leave visible in the space provided. Draft list is fantastic and reasonable prices at $7-9. The popcorn ($8) is also solid - a heaping pile of buttered popcorn served in a giant steel bowl. My last visit, tried the Jerk Chicken Sandwich ($14) - a hunk of seasoned chicken on a potato bun served with sweet potato pies. Loved the veggies and bun, but the chicken was a little dry. Sweet potato fries are good. As long as you don't mind servers running around (they do their best not to disturb movie watchers), then this is a great place to see a show. read more

I kept hearing friends talk of "the Alamo downtown" as if if were some kind of secret club. City Point is the venue it is within- a hip, clean mall-type building with a food market in the lower area and various stores within 4 floors. The Alamo is tucked away upstairs. You're welcomed with dark carpeting and a type of self-sufficiency mood. Sit down in your pre-purchased seat with a table in front of you. There are cards in the front of your table in which you write down what you want to eat based on the menu. Also wrote your drink. Your server with pick it up silently when your card is finished. Stick it vertical in the holder so they know it's ready. Yes, the Alamo has its own language. I had the brisket burger with fries and a ginger ale. The burger was very good. It was heavy though, so beware. The red-centered burger is set on a fluffy potato bun with all the right fixings- red onion, tomato, lettuce, and a garlic mayo spread. I finished the whole thing but did feel heavy after. The fries are crispy and soft on the inside. My friend and table-mate had the chicken sandwich and a chocolate chip cookie shake. Well, the shake was to die for. I only had a sip and the crunchy cookie pieces mixed with the cold vanilla bean flavor had me hooked. She said the sandwich was very dry and not that good. "The fries were better than the sandwich," she said. I'm glad I found this gem. Alamo is close to the R, N, and F trains downtown. Be prepared to pay a pretty penny. Tickets for the movie are $17.50.
