Truly outstanding, especially their incredible brisket and GBC taco. We also absolutely loved the ribs and poblano mac. Definitely will be back here whenever I'm back in San Antonio.

    Ribs and brisket.

From the outside, Reese Bros. looks like a place that should have good barbecue. Plus, they make the Texas Monthly Top 50. Unfortunately, the ribs and brisket we tried were both overcooked and dry. You order at the window and then find a place to sit in their large outdoor seating area. Parking is available on the street and in their lot.

TX BBQ meets Mexico. A great fusion of traditional TX BBQ and Mexican food. From the beans to the street corn to the torta to the poblano Mac n cheese, they serve tortillas with the brisket. That's right, tortillas! The line can get busy if you don't arrive at a reasonable hour and they will sell out. I had to try the costra de queso which is cheese grilled directly on the skillet to form a crispy crust. When I found out they had poblano Mac, had to come try. My ma makes poblano spaghetti and it's a treat to get these tastes away from home. The seating is all outdoors but they have warmers if it's cold and swamp coolers and fans if it's hot. The micheladas are also pretty great. Parking is available across the street or there's a lot east of the restaurant directly adjacent. Come give a try. A great place to bring out of town folks to give them a taste of both worlds!

There's a reason they have a Michelin star. They are busy but they keep the line moving. Friendly service. Plenty of seating. The food was heavenly! The brisket just melted in your mouth. The ribs were tender and flavorful, and the Mac and cheese was a surprise. It is was a poblano Mac and cheese. It wasn't super heavy and cheesy but more like a poblano cheese sauce. It was so tasty!!! It comes out green and you can taste the poblano throughout. A must try. The brisket taco was insane!! House made tortillas and they pile the brisket on! Don't skip it. Overall, this was a 10/10 for me!!

Driving around Texas eating BBQ on the Texas Monthly Top 50 list. Left my home early in the morning on a beautiful Friday headed to San Antonio Tx . Arrived at Reese Bros Barbecue at 10am. The free parking lot is behind the building so when you get to the location take a right and then another right into the parking lot. We got to talk to several of the friendly employees and I meet one of the owners/pit master. Reese Bros BBQ has covered outside sitting with lots of fans and shade which makes sitting outside comfortable. Husband and I got some brisket, which was tender, had a beautiful smoke ring and was loaded with peppery flavor of comfort. We also got pork ribs, which had a good bit with a kiss of smoke. The queso fundido sausage link with Oaxaca and Serrano peppers was melt in your mouth delicious with a bite of spice. The homemade flour tortillas were warm and delicious as we wrapped some of our brisket in them. We also had the cold corn salad which was delightfully delicious. We were also treated to some crispy bark burnt ends. The whole experience at Reese Bros BBQ is outstanding, welcoming and delicious. I highly recommend that everyone try the BBQ at Reese Bros BBQ. The people here are friendly and the food is amazing.

The list this. The list that. The dreaded list. Everyone cares about the list. What makes a barbecue spot stand out against the rest? How do you try a number 9 spot and a top 50 spot and know truly what makes one better than the other? That's a question I still don't have the answer to as I've hit 8 of the Texas Monthly Top 50 joints in the past 6 months. What always seems to hit me harder are the places that do something different. Sure, the craft barbecue trays are an elegant show of force, laying out the juicy smoked brisket, the perfectly cooked sausage, and the fall-off-the-bone pork ribs, but what is a barbecue place doing to stand out from the other heavy hitters? At Reese Bros Barbecue, they aren't just focused on the meats. They're focused on how they can infuse that into traditional Mexican dishes like Tostadas, Tortas, Costras, and Tacos. In the heart of San Antonio, they don't serve barbecue with bread. They serve with the freshest flour tortillas. Reese Bros is located just across the road from the Alamodome, placing it right in the heart of the 'tone. The entire venue is outdoors with the ordering station, the separate bar, and plenty of picnic benches and patio-style seating. Even on a hot August day in Texas, there's plenty of shade and fans to prevent the heat from ever becoming an issue. I got to Reese Bros at 10:45 am, 15 minutes before opening. There were about five groups in front of me, with the first containing about 8 people. I sat down with my food at 11:14 am. The front group, being such a large party, took some time to get their order in, but overall not a bad wait. The line is constantly moving, and the separate bar allows you to get a drink while you wait. Being a solo rider, I ordered enough to try what I hoped would be representative of Reese Bros' integrity and their vision. I ordered a link of their Queso Fundido Sausage, their Otis Taco, a Tostada, and a side of the Poblano Mac. I will now list and discuss each item: Queso Fundido Sausage: I've mentioned before in my reviews that having a signature and specialty sausage makes a place go a long way. For their sausage, it tastes exactly how it's listed. It has a stronger cheese profile than a typical choriqueso sausage I've had and definitely brought a kick more than most sausages I've had. It was very impressive. However, in comparison to everything else I had, it was by far the weakest. That's not a diss, it's just a compliment to everything else I'm about to talk about. Otis Taco: As I sat face to face with a glorious creation of the chopped brisket Otis Taco, I used their paper towels to create a bib for myself because I knew it was going to get messy. For $7, the value is insane. The brisket melts in your mouth, and the cilantro and onions really sell that classic Mexican taco vibe, but the real star of the show, the real MVP, is their salsa dona sauce. The sauce has this fusion of garlic and jalapeños that's creamy while still having a kick, which compliments the brisket as well as any house barbecue sauce. The flour tortilla is dense and does a great job holding all the flavors together, which is surprising with how much brisket they threw on it. Tostada: Their tostada comes with the choice of confit brisket or carnitas. I obviously went for the confit brisket, and I'm glad I did. I don't know how to describe how those 2 minutes of destroying the tostada felt, but everything played in harmony like a 100-piece orchestra. The tallow-fried tostada is so crispy and beautiful, with the layer of guac balancing it against the mountain of brisket they added on top. It didn't have a chance to survive as I smoked it. Poblano Mac and Cheese: This was recommended to me by my dad as a must-get. He was right. Their signature side has a similar profile to the salsa dona sauce from the Otis Taco but was more mild and cheesier. It really brings the whole plate together and frankly, I could put a large order of it in my cup holder and crush it the entire drive home. What a treat. One thing I should mention is how great the staff is. I have one of those Texas Monthly passport books, and I've secretly been judging places on how they stamp it. Some joints have stamped it sideways for some reason. The lady at Reese Bros not only took my book and stamped it, but also blew on the ink to dry it before sliding parchment paper between the pages because she knew the ink bled. She solved a problem no other spot had thought of. About 30 minutes after eating, one of the employees referred to me by name and asked how the food was. That's quality customer service. In conclusion, this is some of the best barbecue I've had since starting this journey through Texas. It's more affordable than your typical stand, but the way they play with what makes traditional barbecue traditional really allows Reese Bros to stand out as a one-of-a-kind spot. The greats of Austin better sleep with one eye open because Reese is coming fast.

So enter once you get off the street into the first opening. That's where the line starts. There's a line before hand. It's an outside picnic area to eat if you want to. But space is probably limited because this place is popular. My husband ordered the pork ribs and poblano Mac and cheese. I ordered just the contra. My husband said the bbq was tender and no complaints on the mac. But baby, let me tell you about the contra. When i brought the food home, it was in a plastic bag. I looked in the bag and thought i had spilled the barbecue sauce!!! It was a greasy mess. I pulled out the ribs. It wasn't them because they were wrapped in aluminum. It wasn't the poblano because it was red. There was no extra sauce in the bag. It was the contra "juice" AKA grease, oil, whatever it was! I did not eat it. My husband waited two days to eat it. I was scared for him because he has stomach issues. He ate it this morning and said, " they must've tripped and accidentally dropped it into grease. " That's how bad it was! In all of my years, I had never experienced grease coming from food like that. I threw the bag away with the grease in it but I really wish I would've taken a picture. I cannot go back no matter how delicious the ribs may be. If I would've eaten that, there wouldn't have been sleep that night because acid reflux was going to happen, no doubt about it. Beware of contra!

Review: A Taste of Texas BBQ with a Mexican Flare This acclaimed spot, a verified Texas Monthly 50 Top BBQ award winner, offers a compelling twist on the Texas 'Trinity' of barbecue. It successfully blends traditional slow-smoked meats with an unexpected, yet delightful, Mexican flare, offering everything from standard BBQ by the pound to various taco combinations. The atmosphere is fantastic, featuring a nice outdoor dining area with covered seating that provides a great vibe for enjoying some serious smoke. The Meats: Highs and Lows The Pork Ribs were, without question, the star of the show. They were remarkably tender, truly living up to the promise of being fall-off-the-bone perfect, complete with a satisfyingly good glaze and bark. This is the dish to travel for. The Brisket delivered exactly what you'd hope for from a top-tier Texas joint--it was standard and moist, sliced well, and satisfied the craving for classic smoked beef. The Brisket and Onion Taco served as a nice, if slightly predictable, vessel for the brisket. The combination of brisket with onion, lime, and cilantro was solid; the flavors weren't complex, but they were certainly not bad and added to the restaurant's unique menu identity. However, the Jalapeño and Cheddar Sausage was the only real disappointment. It suffered from a tough and chewy casing and was a little too greasy. The peppery flavor was slightly overwhelming, making it a skip for those who prefer a cleaner, more balanced sausage. Sides and Dessert The sides were inventive and well-executed. The Mac and Cheese stood out, featuring jumbo shells coated in a rich, green poblano cheese sauce. It carried a good flavor with just the right amount of heat--spicy enough to be interesting, but not too much spice to scare anyone away. For dessert, the Blueberry Cobbler was the perfect finish. Served warm, it had a lovely cake-like texture with nice crispy edges. The contrast provided by the frozen whipped cream topping balanced the warm fruit beautifully. The Verdict This BBQ joint earns its accolades, largely thanks to its exceptionally tender pork ribs and unique, flavorful sides like the poblano Mac and Cheese. The atmosphere is inviting and the Mexican-inspired additions to the menu make for a fun change of pace. While the brisket is solid and the sausage needs some tweaking, the overall experience--from the covered outdoor seating to the incredible ribs--makes this a must-try for any serious BBQ enthusiast.

Everyone was very friendly. We had an exceptional view and we had more than enough food that we had to ask for take out boxes. My favorite was the Mac & cheese though I'm usually not a fan. The hostess was welcoming and friendly and our server was excellent. We were seated in the other building near the windows. The menu wasn't huge, but just right with a few lunch and brunch items. After debating for a while of what to order, I decided on the Texas Gulf Shrimp plate. Agua Fresca of the day per our server was strawberry pineapple. Our server was able to water mine down slightly- since it was very sweet, but love knowing that it was freshly made. Complimentary chips and salsa always a plus, and we were able to order some spicy salsa to accompany at no charge. My shrimp plate was delicious! 2 skewers of nicely cooked and seasoned shrimp atop salsa with perfectly cooked cilantro rice and a fresh leaf salad. A half slices avocado accompanied my plate. Oh how I love avocados. I thoroughly enjoyed my plate. The chicken al carbon was also a good choice - half a chicken that was juicy, not dry. The avocado toast was beautiful and the pecan salsa was quite interesting. The female performers during our brunch in the room, made it very hard for all of us to have conversations. The volume echoed loudly in the room, so it was very hard to speak and understand each other. Although a great idea, maybe outdoor patio area might be more suitable.
