I had another bike I haven't ridden in a long time so I texted him a picture of it and asked if he would like to buy it; we ended up taking some money off the cost of my repair as a trade, which was great ~ saved me some money, cleared up some space in my garage, he now has a bike he can fix up and sell and I have a bike that works well again. I had a wonderful experience having Alan Gorman restore my old K2 hybrid. I had been riding it for 20 years and it had just about everything wrong with it, but it was more comfortable than all the new bikes I tried out. Alan is an awesome guy running a great business! We had a rather tricky situation in which our bikes were destroyed and partly dismantled due to theft. He tried to work out a solution to repair them as well as offer us a trade for what was left of our bikes; we were dealing with insurance too so we had to go back and forth with Alan and our insurance over a number of days. I took the bike in because both me and the staff at Summit Bicycles couldn't adjust the handle bar height. Alan immediately identified the locking mechanism and was able to loosen the necessary screws and adjust the handle bar position. All took 3 minutes. I have been to visit Alan a few times now and I have had a great experience every single time. The first time, my roommate and I stopped by to purchase a bicycle and I was able to purchase a secondhand Janis Citizen from Alan. It was in great condition with good quality parts and had just been tuned up and he sold it to us for a very affordable price. I've been riding it to work every weekday since then and I couldn't be happier with my purchase. Alan is a really good guy and one day when my bike got a flat, I brought it to him after work and he fixed it up for free. The most recent visit I made to his shop was to get a rear bike rack and commuter trunk installed on my bike. I visit my son and his family monthly in Burlingame. I wanted to get his Giant TCR tuned up, and I only had a 24 hr. Turnaround. Both chain rings and cassette were shifting poorly. The bike hadn't been ridden in several years. I had visited another shop in town where upon walking into the shop, nobody greeted or approached me as a new customer. I consider this poor service. I walked out, and did a web search. Alan had stellar reviews so I gave him a try. His shop is small, unconventional, but I don't judge a book by its cover.
