We had another bike that needed minor adjustment so we went back together with the second bike and he thoroughly impressed me too!! in a matter of minutes he had adjusted the whole bike. When we asked what we owed he wouldn't take anything for the minor adjustments. We tried leaving $20 on the counter and he refused it and said "give it to charity".. what a wonderful person! Really nice guy and great experience! I found two bikes on CL that I liked, and Alan let me test out both and even changed the pedals on the one I picked to make it a better fit for me. As other people have mentioned, it is a bit hard to find and the place looks a bit scary in the dark, but Alan is just super kind and friendly. Alan is incredible! I had a major issue with my back wheel and just wanted something safe to ride on. My local shop in Menlo said their most affordable wheel would be $100, not including the labor to move my cassette, and that the turnaround time would be a minimum of 48 hours. On a Sunday evening I was looking for used wheels and found a craigslist post from Alan at his shop. I emailed him, which he promptly replied to, and he offered to help that evening! After heading in, he happily replaced my back wheel, oiled up my chain, and corrected another slight alignment issue on my bike. The entire time he was incredibly accommodating, knowledgeable and happy to help. After over delivering and being so helpful, I walked out the door paying less than a third of what the other shop would have cost (even after paying Alan extra for his service). I wholeheartedly recommend that anyone with bike issues visit Alan, I know he'll absolutely be the first one I go to next time any issue crops up! read more

In the midst of the COVID-19 lockdowns, it was nearly impossible to find a local bike shop that was either open or didn't have a 2 month waiting list. I live in San Jose, so going to Burlingame seemed kind of far, but his reviews were so stellar so I decided to give it a shot. He said he could schedule an appointment for me for Saturday which was only a couple of days. So I took it. My 1990 mountain bike had not had any serious maintenance in over a decade. I needed a broken spoke fixed and my gear shifters were very hard to press which was starting to give me repetitive stress pain in my thumbs. I also had some issues with gears slipping and questions about whether the bike could be upgraded to have better gearing options. Alan was very conscientious about trying to not have me sink too much money into the bike since it was so old and get a newer one as a better value. The bike does have some sentimental value for me, so he agreed to tune it up, fix the spoke, and fix the shifters. When he found out I lived in San Jose, he offered to drop it off there since he lives in San Jose, which I really appreciated. I left him with my bike. He soon contacted me and told me my shifters were basically destroyed and would need to be completely replaced and asked what I wanted to do. I gave him the go-ahead to replace them. In only a couple of days since I left him, he dropped off my bike. It works and feels great. This was a much faster turnaround than I expected. And for the amount of work that he did, I felt he should have charged me more. I told him that and asked if he was sure about the price, and he said he was good. I highly recommend Alan. He is honest, fast, and good at what he does. read more

He actually suggested I take the least expensive route, which I found refreshing. The turn around was quick plus he gave me a helmet since I didn't have one. I had assembled my Vilano Shadow 2 bike by myself. I had a couple of loose brakes and needed to get it fine tuned. After reading Yelp reviews for Alan, I decided to go to him for a tune up. I discovered Alan via craigslist a couple of years ago, when I was looking for a 12" bike for Christmas for my then 3-year old daughter. For thirty bucks and a handshake, off I went with a beautiful Diamondback bike that retails for about $150. A year later the little girl was moving too fast on her bike for her me to keep up on foot, so I needed a bike for me. Once again, I bought a high-quality used bike from Alan at a great price. Soon after that, my daughter had outgrown her 12" bicycle; this time she came along and Alan patiently assisted as she test-rode 3 bikes, and we settled on a great 16" Schwinn that she rides to this day. I purchased a 3 bike rack from Alan. He was great at returning my calls and worked with my schedule, so I could pick it up after work. When we arrived, he was pleasant and gave us detailed instructions on the proper installation of the rack. He double checked the rack to make sure all the straps were there and in good condition. As we were leaving he assured us that if the rack didn't fit properly we could come back and he would replace it. What's to say that hasn't already been said about Alan - this guy is good. The thing is you can talk to him about what you want and need, and it's done. I needed to replace the front chainring on my electric bike (from 38T to 48T) which means a new chain. Due to a large cog in the rear cassette, Alan added an extra long chain (actually a chain and a half and made sure it worked and didn't jump). He then adjusted my rear derailleur - because I was having issues with my high and low gear. So far everything is great...appreciate the due diligence. Thank you. read more

Super nice guy! I needed help with a flat and broken tire, Alan said he could help me out that same day. Unfortunately, my bike had a rather unusual tire size, so he didn't have the parts on hand. Instead he told me exactly what to order on Amazon and explained to me how I can do it myself. I don't have a clue about bicycles though and told him, I'd rather bring it back when I have the parts. Sure enough, a few days later I dropped by again and he put the new tire on within a few minutes and didn't even want to take money for it. My son's brand new bike had the chain stuck under the cassette ( yes under, not behind it). I took it to Alan Gorman. Alan managed to remove the chain from under the cassette. While removing he chain, the bearing in the gearbox were messed up and Alan spent over an hour putting the bearing back into place. What an amazing job! This man truly has the passion on fixing up bikes. He said that he hates to see a new bike gets thrown away. In addition to fixing the gear, Alan reinstall the front and rear brakes on the bike. Two hours later, my son's has a new bike again. I asked Alan how much I owe him. Alan told me to just pay him what I think is fair. I couldn't believe my ears. Found Alan on yelp, with all those glowing reviews I thought I'd give him a try! I'm starting UCB in the fall and wanted to fix up a bike we had in storage. He fixed it up no problem and while we were there saw and bought another bike he had fixed up for my boyfriend! Picked up a 1970 Schwinn Stingray off of Ebay for my girlfriend's grandson. Although the bike was clean, they're were some issues with it. The handlebar would not stay secure and the wheels wobbled due to bad bearings. Took the bike to Alan for him to give it a good going over. Alan made the repairs but more importantly, made the bike safe to ride. Alan is a good mechanic but above all, I found him to be trustworthy.
