I'm calling BS on Jeff Smith's comment about doing over 700 pools a year. No way you are finishing 2 pools a day. 365 days x 2 =730 pools for the year? Our pool still looks like you just demoed it and it's been 6 months. Your teams main excuse is NO MANPOWER. Do you guys train on being liar's? Zach Brennon, Ken Duval, Don Applerose and Ray Cassey. All liars. Ray gave us a date for coping to be installed. Coping was a no show. We started inquiring about this and all of a sudden, the coping guy is no where to be found according to Ray. Ray finally gets in touch with coping guys and gave us another date. Funny how things work out, my wife happed to run into the coping contractor the next morning as he is outside taking measurements. She started asking questions and he said, " Ray just told me yesterday, that's why I 'm here today" YOU GOT CAUGHT WITH YOUR HANDS IN THE COOKIE JAR Ray. We had our old 1969 style pool redone by Alan Smith Pools. We requested quotes from 3 companies and went with Alan Smith. Our sales rep - Chris - was the best. He came over when he said he would and he met us at the showroom to help pick out tile and go over the different types of plaster finishes and copings. There were several teams that came to our house to remove the old pool, install new plumbing, install a new Baja Shelf, do the coping and plastering and tile installation. Everyone on the teams were friendly and got along with our dogs. They cleaned up after themselves and did a great job. We received many comments from our friends and family this summer about how wonderful the pool looks. We love the new Baja Shelf. When a friend decided that he saw a rust spot in our pool and tried to fix it, he bleached out the pebble tech leaving an obvious white spot. Alan Smith Pools sent an employee over, no charge, and fixed the bleached out area. We didn't even have to drain the pool! read more

We have had problems since they finished the job. Have called, emailed both the project manager and the owner and we can't get a call back.... meanwhile, the damage is getting worse and worse. He immediately responded to both my emails & telephone calls. Our community pool, jacuzzi, deck were to be completely redone in 3-months and it has been ONE YEAR and it is STILL not done. We hired Alan Smith Pools to renovate our pool In 2014/15. There were some glitches along the way which were resolved and ultimately the pool turned out great. We get tons of compliments on it! Now a few years later there was some cracking in the coping and some tiles in the spa fell off. We made Alan aware of the problem and he sent someone out immediately to check it out. They identified the problem and had a team come out and fix it ASAP. The repairs were all covered in our warranty. We are thrilled! read more

I give them one star for follow up and workmanship on repairs under their "10 year workmanship warranty". ASPP replastered and had coping reset and replaced in 2016. 6 months later we had to have some of that coping reset and replaced again, at an increased cost to us. Well that brick coping popped and cracked in 2021 and needs to be reset again. I notified ASPP months ago, they sent a "warranty rep" out, and I have not seen or heard from them since. I have called ASPP several times and left messages with those they forward my calls to, and no reponse! I can't recommend this company anymore after their neglect and unprofessionalism in honoring their warranties as well as the poor quality of the workmanship. read more

We signed the contract in May, with an Oct start. Picked the tile in July. Finished on Feb 15,2022. 4 months! ("We are very busy!!!") The good news is that the guys that work there are really very qualified and the end product was very good. The bad news is that the company is spread waaaay too thin and the guys are overworked and too busy; resulting in a very unsatisfactory experience. Examples: As mentioned, tile was picked out over the summer, ordered and sent by the manufacturer to their warehouse. When it came time for tiling, we were notified by Alan Smith Co. that they we out and did not know when it would come in. Probably should choose another one! We contacted manufacturer and they confirmed the whole order was filled in Aug. We contacted Jeff R who then verified that there was some in the warehouse. When it was finally delivered to us, the tile man said that this was one of the most common tiles and they had at least a pallet of it. Lots of unnecessary anxiety initiated by either laziness or deception. The intervals between steps in the process was any where from 2-4 weeks, with no communication in between. Often, we got an email the morning of saying that workers would be there that day. This created problems for us as we were sometimes out of town or otherwise unable to be home and we insisted on our presence to be able answer questions that came up. One other issue, plastering was finished early Dec and was a good job. However a small blemish occurred and I asked them to send someone out to look at it before I would send any final payment. Took awhile but they found the cause and fixed it in Jan. Problem was that I asked for a receipt for the pool heater they installed in Nov so I could claim a $400 rebate from SoCal Gas. They said not until final payment was made to them for the whole project. So they waited until mid Feb, when it was finally over, I sent it to SoCal and was informed the funding was for 2021 projects and had now run out...no $400! By the way, they also resisted giving me a copy of the VSP pump receipt saying no city of Anaheim rebates were available...they are and I got it. Final issue, had VSP installed and my pool guy says they did not reinstall one or more check valves that were in place. Not sure if he's right or not but the pool drains back filter medium after the the pump goes off. I asked the head Project Mgr and my Supervisor to just check it out..2 times...crickets. Would not use again or recommend. read more

We went through three other pool "companies" who were a huge disappointment and waste of money and time before finding Alan Smith Pools. They were professional the whole way, very knowledgeable, came when they said they would and actually saved us money. They were willing to work with us, given that some work had already been done.. so many pool companies do not want to touch others botch jobs... Beware... Very mismanaged. No shows on scheduled plaster day. Call to see where they are and no response for 2 weeks. They do not return calls or email. SO FRUSTATING!!!! Left messages, through the assistant, for owner to contact me and he does not return calls or emails either. Surprise..... NOT!!! My pool is plastered and retiled and I have a problem and, of course, no response from the 15 emails and calls. SCARY... They make promises they can't keep. It has been 2 months and the pool is not complete. If you are crazy enough to go with Allan Smith Pools, whatever you decide, DON'T deal with Daryl. He care about his job about as much as the owner does.. That would be ZERO! I have two friend that has the same problems with Allan Smith Pools Learn from my mistake.. I had a great experience with Alan Smith Pools. They were totally professional at every stage of the experience. I recommend if you are considering them that you visit their office/warehouse. They are a real operation with their own staff. I received notifications each day they would be on site and at each step in the process. I personally struggled with picking materials and my sales rep Chris Dimitrijevic was very patient with me. I had to reschedule a few times due to some travel and even with bad weather, they continued to place a high priority on the project. I will add that there were some small issues at the end, however they continued to be responsive and make everything " just right". The fact that they even solicited my review shows their lack of attention to detail. I made it very clear at the completion of our job that we were not happy with their work. Even though their pricing was more than our other bids, we chose them because they had a good reputation. How they earned that reputation is a mystery. Our project was to be completed in five weeks, it end up taking 5 months before it was done. I placed so many unanswered calls to find out when they would be coming back to the job. I have never had a worse experience with a contractor. Their performance is TERRIBLE. The last kick in the gut is when their superintendent missed the city inspection so I never got the final plans signed off showing their work was complete. These guys are all show, no performance. We met with 3 different pool remodeling outfits. Initially we had decided to choose Alan Smith Pools. Their sales guy (Herman) was a little slick and their quote was easily NOT the lowest. It took some time before we made our decision. When I contacted Herman and told him we wanted to proceed he told us the pricing had expired and gave us a new quote nearly 20% higher. We understand the cost of materials has gone up but 20%??? One of the things they require you have on your property is a port-o-potty. The cost on that went from $200 to $300! I sent Herman a note asking about this and was completely COMPLETELY ignored. The last time I spoke with Herman he told me (in early September) that the work would begin in January. I suppose business is SO good they can jack up the price?!? We went back to the other 2 outfits to see if they had raised their prices. They each said they would stand by their initial proposals. We also decided to bring in 2 more remodeling services. We went with one of the new companies and the work has already begun. I will post a review on their performance when the job is complete. The ONLY reason I gave 2 stars instead of 1 is that when we visited their facility the staff was friendly and helpful. They didn't actually have what Herman said they would which was a way to view the finish/color at various depths. That was an hour & a half round trip waste of time! read more

Workers were great. Nice, polite, cleaned up every day. Hard workers. Spent $19,000 and have TWO structural leaks losing 120 gallons A DAY starting the day pool was filled! Foreman hasn't returned my text after two weeks or more. And I liked him. I'd give zero stars if I could, solely because of foreman and well, two structural leaks I spent another $360 for a REAL professional company to locate. We are located in Santa Ana CA and have a 60 year old pool that needed a new plaster job, so we contacted Alan Smith who was represented by a wonderful salesman, Rob, who went over all the options available to us and to allow us to keep the cost within our budget range. While we had to wait for the job to start, it was well worth it. Our 60 year old pool came out beautiful. We opted to keep the old tile to save cost, Alan Smith sent out a crew that cleaned the old tile and wow, the tile looks new. We needed our chrome step ladder and the steps in the wall replaced, the new one came out beautiful and his crew even knew how to remove the pavers to plant the new ladder in the ground and the pavers were put back with such skill that you would never know they had been dug up. We had a salt system added as well. Then came the plaster. We decided to upgrade from the white plaster and chose the radiant fusion topaz (sm pebble) along with having the micro glass added. Our pool came out beautiful!! One would never know it is a 60 year old pool. The workmanship was great quality, the crew men knew what they were doing and highly skilled, and to end it, they did a final clean up and power washed the decking. Our diving board came out looking like new from the power wash. What a great transformation of an old pool to an updated one. Poor communication. Failure to perform. Extreme negligence in honoring contractual commitments. Far behind schedule due to lack of resources, or sheer ineptitude, or both. I changed my 2 star rating to a 1 star rating. On top of many other examples of sloppy work, today I discovered remnants of the old plaster from my pool on the roof of my house....further evidence that Alan Smith Pool Replastering used too much pressure when water jetting the old plaster from the pool. This is the same process that resulted in Alan Smith Pool Replastering asking me to sign a $4,200 change order to repair the damage they had caused by using too much pressure. When I refused to sign, the need for the change order sort of miraculously went away! While the end product is excellent, I would check alternative vendors before using Alan Smith. BTW, Alan Smith does not respond to emails. I do not recommend. read more

Alan Smith Pools did a great job on our pool plastering. Well under other bids we received and lots of options. We did a Wet Edge Quartz/plaster that was a great option. Works like a plaster so long life and smooth but has some added specs of color. Our contractor forgot to add a step to our Baja shelf and Alan added it prior to plastering for $250. A couple minor things came up after they finished and they were responsive, immediately came out and fixed. Would definitely recommend going direct to these guys vs through a contractor that does not know what he is doing. read more

The office staff is friendly, very communicative (received updates on who would be coming to complete which part of the project daily), clean workers who respected my home and kept disruptions to a minimum. The worst customer service and workmanship we have ever experienced. Do not use this company!! The concrete they poured in our backyard has permanent stains/damage/ discoloration that will never go away! Permanently damaged concrete is not an industry standard as they state it is... Why use a company that is ok with poor quality and half ass workmanship!?!? They quoted us 4-6 months to complete our front and back yard and the entire job took just shy of a year!!!! Days would go by with no work being done on our job and no communication to explain why! When work finally resumed it was done incorrectly and not to the plans that had been originally agreed upon. I'm going to try to condense a long rant into a reasonable post. The latest, having fun replacing pool lights. One, is now un-removable. I'm not sure what they did. I'm sure I can drill it out underwater with a pneumatic drill. What fun. The other, I removed, but the housing, and the niche is full of the pebble plaster they sloppily installed. While draining the hot tub to remove the hot tub light, I found the rag they left in my plumbing, now caught in the pump. This is all after dealing with a few bait and swap techniques. We moved forward, even with the substantially higher cost with Alan Smith based off a gorgeous sample of the surface they would use. One of the cool features, Abalone sprinkles. Well except literally hours before install, I get an email with the time of install, and a disclaimer that abalone on samples would not be included in install, and was extra. Various attempts to communicate with them and resolve before install failed, or were ignored. Previous to this, after demo, their division supervisor comes by, taps a couple of times on the coping, and tells me they won't install tile, unless I replaced or reseat all the coping. Lets see.. tap tap... yeah, that could have been done before signing a contract, at the sales quote point of this whole venture. He made it clear that he didn't care about what they had been contracted to do. I ended up getting a third party to install new coping and tile. Let me some it up. Alan Smith is "the best" and they will remind you of it constantly, and that is why they can charge a premium They are the best even when again and again they make mistakes or perform sloppy work (many other details to list.. like having to wake up every three hours to fix the pool pump they used to drain my pool that was duck taped together, broken coping hidden on the other side of my backyard). Unfortunately although there are several positives, they just ruin it. It doesn't matter what I post, they will claim the sky is red. My advice to them... if you are the best, start acting it, instead of just claiming it, in order to dodge responsibility. As far as the response given below... I had read a pretty good review about Alan Smith Pool company as well as heard some good things from others. We hired them to resurface our pool. Their quote was about 30% higher than other quotes but I was looking for the quality as pool is too important for our kids. The bad experience started with their scheduling. It took them more than 4 weeks to resurface the pool. Out of 4 weeks, they worked total of 4 days. We would not know until a day or two before they are going to show up to work. They use a lot of different crews to do different jobs, they all wear same Alan Smith Pool T-shirt but I am not sure if they are independent contractors. My wife was very pissed with the process as they will bill every time their crew shows up and will tell us that they will stop work if we don't pay for the last crew. I am used to have my contractors finish the job before I pay them. They finished job at the end of 5th week of them starting the work. What follows is the nightmare!!!! I started observing that my pool was loosing 3/4" of water level everyday. It was significant compared to what was before they did the work. I contacted them if there is a leak, their immediate answer was that it's not their fault. They don't use jack hammer to peel the old surface but use hydrojet. Partly true as I had seen their guys using electric jack hammer to pill areas around the water inlet/outlets in the pool. They send out a leak detection company to check for leaks and sure enough they detected leak in one of the spa's return line which was very next to where these guys worked. I asked them that i believe it is their fault, which obviously was denied. They gave us a quote to repair it in upwards of $2,000, I asked them to reduce it 15% as this is partly their doing, they did not. It gets even worst from here!!! I hired someone else to fix the leak 3 days ago, they opened the concrete where leak detection team had detected the leak and found no leak what so ever in that area. I have contacted the leak detection team again and they said that if they are able to prove with a pressure test that leak is there, they will charge us $250 additional. Our leak repair team ran the water for 2 hours to find out if there is any visible water, mudding or moisture is present where the leak is pointed, nothing there, nothing around it. If leak detection team finds leak somewhere else during retest, they will not charge me. Although, I still have to pay for fixing the concrete in the wrong area. When we started the work, there was a different person from Alan Smith Pool, when repair was asked, they send someone else. They don't respond to our emails regularly, all they have tried is to pull their hand out of this as they are already paid. I paid upwards of $18,000 for surfacing a 15'x14' pool, paying upwards of $2,000 to leak repair which is not properly located yet and possibly will be paying more to leak detection team. There is no leadership or ownership from Alan Pool Smith company. They don't stand behind their work, their ethics are low, they are sweet talking team and just politicians who don't take ownership of their own doing. if you have read this whole review, find a local guy who can do your pool, don't throw your money at big companies like these, even if you have extra. It's shame that I had to go thru this and it has become such a stress full experience with us. read more

If I could give ZERO stars, I would. They ONLY bright spot in this company is Carlos and his team of plasterer's! Carlos and his team of plasterers were great at communication, arrived on time and cleaned up after they were done. They were the only team that knew what they were doing! Many thanks to Carlos and his team!! Where we both had seen white spots were actually from the messy tile team. Tile glue all over my deck tile and new hand railing for spa. Carlos wanted us to know that his team did not do that and we knew as we watched his team do the plastering and they were very careful. It was done by the tile guys. (UPDATED: Just found out what we thought was glue on the spa railing, was actually scratches from the tile team installation) You would have thought they would have put a cover for protection on the new handrail, that now looks 10 years old!! Ray Cassey was our project manager, Mario was our tile supervisor, Carlos was in charge of plastering. Also, I suspect the glowing reviews are either friends or relatives, because there is no way this company could do anything correctly, except the plaster phase was on top of things. We used this firm for a remodel project last year and they were the worst performing contractor I have ever worked with. Late on all aspects of the project, poor quality, poor communication, over charged, did not follow the detailed specifications, took short cuts on most of the project. I had them back 5 times to fix and repair such items and they still are not correct. Thus I hired another contractor to finish the work properly. This firm overall does not deserve any stars!!!!! Sorry-but just totally disappointed in this company. Promises made-none kept. Said they'd finish in six weeks... Turned into 4 months!! Yes-a 2 week delay was my in law's fault... But the rest!? They did not show up to do work on days they said they'd be there, left a messy work site, and added thousands in misc. charges along the way. Plus, corners were breaking left and right and pool totally left cloudy and dirty. I'm so glad that this was not our house as we are just moving into a new home with a pool and will most certainly avoid this company. Hi, We had our pool remodeled by Alan Smith Pools in 2017. Linda and I could not be happier. It has been two years since we had it completed in a very quick process. The only reason I have not written a review was because I forgot to. We have enjoyed the new look of our pool so much. Alan came out and looked at our ageing pool. He looked around the back yard and said I have just the color of pebble finish and the tile selection that will pop. Alan also had a great idea of making our spa become an infinity look from the spa and pool surface. Linda and I went over to Alan Smith Pools a couple days later to look at what Alan had picked out, and we loved his selection, and scheduled the work on the spot. If you go to the testimonials above, you will see the video of our pool and how nice it came out. We recently had some tiles pop loose. I called Alan Smith Pools, and they were very prompt in getting Salvador out to take care of it. Not by fault of their work. We have a cantilevered concrete deck. They informed us on the original remodel that there could possibly be a small problem if the earth shifts, which creates the tiles to (maybe) pop loose in spots. They fixed it perfectly, and should not have a problem moving forward. All of Alan's Smith's staff, from the office staff to the field professionals are awesome. If you are anywhere around the downtown H.B. area and would like to check out our pool, please do so. We highly recommend Alan Smith Pools. He is very well known in the pool industry for high standards and quality work. If you do your research you will find this company far superior over the others in Orange County. I like how the sales team is very good at discussing design and working within your budget. I'm hoping to build a small pool in my yard and their knowledge on how to work within my limited space was really helpful. I need a pool to not over crowd my small space but to enhance my yard. Plaster and pebble finish. Very nice I must say the crew arrived at 10:30 a.m. set up and started working by 11 AM they completed the job a litter after 2. There Work was worth five stars I cannot complain however my hose was used and left unrolled and attached. My pool brush poll is missing or misplaced I haven't really looked for it but they used my hosed maybe they moved my poll. And this hurts my tile that I just payed 600 dollars to clean needs cleaning again. Tomorrow is the acid wash I hope that cleaned off the residue besides all that the pool looks beautiful they did a great job. I'll keep you posted on the acid wash and treatment. read more
