GHOSTED. FLAT-OUT! They came 2x in 4 years to service my swim spa. In December ('23) Carlos came and we discussed reducing the power on my 2 swim spa swim jets. He gave me costs and everything. We spent an hour together and he got the serial numbers of my pumps to confirm their house power. He said he will do some research and follow up with me. I paid $75 for the service call (a fair amount). And that's the last contact I had with them. Multiple calls and texts unreturned. I am gladly providing this review of Hot Tub Doctor, LLC. Due to some health issues, personal maintenance of our Catalina swim spa was neglected for quite some time. The Catalina brand seems to have moved out of California. Through some research, out of Tennessee, I was referred to Hot Tub Doctors here in Orange County. Their team, specifically Jen, first cleaned the swim and spa... I mean thoroughly cleaned. Then they troubleshoot any issues, which we had a few. Carlos identified a leak on the spa side and promptly repaired that. The swim side was losing water and Carlos identified a pump leak which he researched and promptly replaced. The half is for the show he puts acts like a nice guy but rip off!!Had him come out to fix sensor. 714-390-6450 He never drained Jacuzzi when attempting to change the sensor. As i watched water was spilling over circulating pump and everywhere in the undercompartment area of Jacuzzi. At that point im wondering something gonna short out or sieze up. Hes the professional im thinking so i didnt say anything. He put new sensor in and put all back together to find out the motor didnt turn so he jumped it on back of circulating pump the one which got all wet when changing sensor. He then got it started and said its probably my pump because it turned off again. He said if i want i can go back under and try and crank pump to turn but he thinks my pump is bad. Mind you the sensor already cost $180.00 or some ridiculous price. So we basically paid and still didnt work. So i ask him how much for a pump he said something like $400. Im already not feeling confident with this guy 714-390-6450 beware so i decided to look the pump up same one i found for $180.00 so i ordeded and had him put in. Worst mistake. Apparently he is a factory speciallized repair man. He couldnt even put the pump in right messed up my ground connections and didnt re zip tie any of the wires back up how they were originally. Also didnt mount the pump, i had to mount it. His excuse was its not the same bolt pattern which was a simple fix but he was in a rush not really into servicing my needs. Facts: 1. I provided my name and phone number to provide further detail. The business did not call me and not sure how they can't find my records with year, name, and phone number. 2. Two pumps that were 1.5 years old were replaced when they more than likely just needed to be repaired. They were never tested so there is no way to know if they needed repair or replacement. This was confirmed by my current spa repair man and the older gentleman that repaired the replaced pump in Placentia. (I think he is from Eastern Europe). 3. When I called and left multiple messages 6 years ago to fix the new pump that failed, no calls were ever returned. 4. If this occurred 6 years ago or 6 days ago I was ripped off and Carlos did not return any calls. 5. Your warranty is meaningless if I can not reach your "business". If you don't return calls then how do you stand behind your warranty? 6. First, the guy (Carlos) was late for the appointment window he set up with me without any explanation. He was appointed by the manufacturer. The first thing he did is that he mentioned there is a wiring issue for my hot hub due to smaller breaker we installed. I told him that the GFCI breaker never was triggered when we operated the spa under any conditions (heating plus high speeding pump). But he insisted this is issue and said that I have to paid him $160 without doing any repair. After I changed the GFCI breaker into a big one, then the spa problem still exists as before. I immediately lost confidence on him and hired another person, who actually found the problem with the motor and replaced it and it works now for my spa. (Recent April 2024). GHOSTED. For me, Hot Tub Doctor was fine until it wasn't. I thought Carlos was a nice guy and trusted him. My spa was leaking and he told me he could fix it. After he said he did (put dye in and had to drain/fill it 3 times), I paid him $650, not cheap but they had to pull the spa out and such. It leaked worse. Then he told me to put Fix A Leak in and go through that process. It still leaked badly. Then he told me he would have to charge me again to come out again at regular prices. I told him I could give him some more $$ but it should not be at retail, if he guaranteed he could fix it. Since then, he has completely GHOSTED me. I have his cell. Left messages, texts, nothing in return. So, I am in probably $900 ($650 plus filling it 3 times and all the chemicals, not to mention hours and hours of my time). So, if you want a cost plus contract with no guarantee of results and a company that will completely GHOST you when it does not all go right, this is your company, your guy. Well they did a great job coming out the first time to replace a motor under warranty for our Spa. However, when the same motor showed problems within 60 days of replacement, they want to charge me a trip charge to come out and replace it again - that's just wrong. Tried to call them back, but all you get is a message that their voicemail box is full. read more

Highly recommend going else where. I used Carlos for 2 years thinking that he knew what he was doing, because my jacuzzi was working. But later found out the work that was done caused tremendous problems with my pump motor and electricty because of work he's done causing more problems. The latest is as follows. 1) We called "Hot Tub Doctor" (Carlos) at 714-390-6450 to fix our outdoor Jacuzzi. 2) The Hot Tub Doctor (Carlos) said we needed a new "pump" and a new electrical "cord" (that goes from the Jacuzzi to the outlet) 3) We were charged $574.19 for the above. 4) After this service, the Jacuzzi was in the same condition and still not working! 5) The Hot Tub Doctor (Carlos) then said we needed a new electrical line from our house to the outlet in the back yard. (Upon the Hot Tub Doctor's advice, we paid our electrician (separately) to install a new electrical line from our house to the Jacuzzi area. (this cost $400 additional) 6) After doing exactly as the Hot Tub Doctor said, the Jacuzzi was still in the exact same condition, and still not working! 7) The Hot Tub Doctor could not fix the Jacuzzi, and could not explain why it still was not working. 8) We hired a second Jacuzzi repairman, who quickly determined that the Jacuzzi needed a new "heater" and NEVER needed a "pump" or electrical cord. Upon replacing the heater, the Jacuzzi worked. (Note: The reason we had to get a new heater is because The Hot Tub Doctor install a new wrong size heater a year prior to this install) The reason I gave Hot Tub Doctor a least a 1 star is because he has a trying spirit to please, but unfortunately this was a bigger problem then he could handle. I paid over $1500.00 for a $550.00 problem. I would not recommend him to anyone who would like their Jacuzzi fixed right. read more

What a great experience! I had an error on my above ground spa and it wasn't working at all. Tom and Jorge were able to pinpoint the problem from the error and order the part. They came out the day after they received it. My spa was up and running within the hour. They also fixed a valve that had always been impossible to turn! Carlos came out last week on Friday to diagnose leaking in my hot tub. He opened the tub motor area, said it needed to dry, and asked me to refill the tub he said he would come back later that afternoon to finish the evaluation. I texted him Friday evening for the first time to ask what his findings were assuming he had done an evaluation and left but not called or texted me. I never heard from him Friday, Saturday, or Sunday. Today Monday, I texted him to ask if he decided not to take this job and he never responded. I'm left to wonder what happened. read more

Well where do I start. Needed some repairs done on my jacuzzi. Carlos came out and honestly I had a good experience to start. My jacuzzi had a broken pipe which needed to be lifted on its side so he can fix the repairs. I then got a moving company to do that which was several hundred dollars on top of what I paid hot tub doctor and basically after no communication I finally got a call that they were having a hard time finding the part (after I called since I didn't hear from anyone for two weeks) . Ok no big deal but call me and let me know. He says Monday you'll hear from me and nothing. I called again just to check the status and then they just stopped answering my phone calls! It's not like I was blowing them up I called like once a week. If you can't repair it just tell me don't freaking ignore my calls. So at that point I was done. They took my money and ran. His advice helped me to diagnose the problem and fix the spa myself for nominal expense. When they finally installed them, one of them was the wrong motor and they tried to get away with it thinking I was stupid and wouldn't know the difference. I have been trying to contact Carlos many times through phone calls and text and he never responds. He is very unprofessional and has bad communication skills. After days of calling him he finally picked up the phone and gave an excuse and hanged up on me. It seems he gives very low priority to repairs that are made through Costco. He was already giving me ultimatums and said he could only service the jacuzzi once through the manufacturer/Costco. That type of communication is sort of negative and shows he doesn't care about the customer. A good Spa repair company would be positive and say it is no problem and communicate with Costco/manufacturer to get the repair done. He just sounded very low in confidence and not experienced. I am really dissapointed Costco is using such an unprofessional person/company to perform service repairs for its jacuzzis. If you bought the Jacuzzi through Costco I suggest you call Costco or the Spa manufacturer and request a different Spa repair company. read more

Carlos is a one man show running his business the Hot Tub Doctor. I used him in the past and had some issues but decided to try him out once again last week and it was a mistake. I needed a pump and he told me they are difficult to get from China but he had access to one that could be installed within a few days. He told me I could put in the LX pump which was the same as the Balboa pump but they just change the name even though it's the same manufacturer. I would benefit from a big savings by going that route so I decided to do it. He charged me 450.00 for the pump and told me the Balboa pump would be closer to 650.00. He installed the wrong pump and told me it doesn't have two settings like my other pump did and if I was fine with that I could keep it. I decided to have it changed to the other so he was going to come back out in a couple months to replace it for same price since it would take at least two months to get one delivered from China. After he left I checked out the operation of the pump and it was the correct one with two settings which allows it to blow hard or medium bubbles. It sure seems he should know what pump he installed since this is what he does for a living. I didn't trust Carlos at this point so I looked up the pump he installed on the internet. I found the exact pump for 228.00 free shipping and no tax at the www.hottuboutpost.com. I also found out there are many places who sell these pumps for same price and all have them in stock. Carlos lied to me about the price and the fact they are not in stock with a 3 month waiting period from China. I confronted him and he agreed to pull out his pump and install mine plus return my 450.00 that I paid when it should have been 228.00. He tried to shift his story on why he had to charge me that price but it was just a sad attempt to keep from his embarrassment of being exposed. It's obvious he makes a substantial profit from increasing the price on parts so BEWARE! I will never use him especially after he admitted that he always charges his customers these prices. I told him it doesn't make it right that he gouges people to make a profit on parts. read more
