The 2 stars is for the sales rep showing up. That's it. It stopped there. He brought back his tile manager as we were going to do substantial amount of Decorative tile in our pool. This guy was a grumpy old man with as bad of an attitude as a person can have. I don't know what kind of problems this old man had, but he sure as hell was grumpy and in a bad mood and rude. Instead of professionally explaining to me that couple of spots of the pool needed some repairs, he grabbed the hammer and started chipping away on my pool plaster and breaking chunks off the pool walls and telling me that my pool is defective. I asked him what the hell he was doing? He told me that he was going to fix those. I told him that I was not going to give them the business before getting information and price from him. How could he assume that he's got the job with that attitude and unprofessionalism. Got another company to do redo the pool very nicely and professionally. Had many choices for replaster and tile and decided to go with Alan Smith Pools even though the original quote was a little more. But true to their word, they stuck with the price where I truly believe we would have been "change ordered" into higher dollars by another contractor. Because we felt comfortable with our sales person, Jeff Rhoads, we did extend our investment based on his original recommendation to tile (instead of clean the existing tile). He was honest and very transparent - almost unbelievable. We interviewed all the local contractors and it was the "quality" Jeff spoke about that kept us coming back. Alan Smith Pools did a fantastic remodel to our pool and backyard living area and it turned out awesome. Brian came out for the initial bid and CJ was there everyday of the project dealing with on-site issues and upgrades during the rebuild. With a property this big, it was inevitable not to run into something not apart of the original quote like old drainage and other various things. Everyone was cool with my way of fixing things and the crew was very patient with us. As you can see from the photos, it was a home run. We took our time, and made sure it was done right. This wasn't our first pool build/remodel and we wanted this to be the best and the safest. My wife chose JewelScapes aquamarine glass bottom finish/pebble. It's super soft on the feet and sitting on it in the spa doesn't rip your board-shorts like some gritty pebble-tech. We used round soft-edge bullnose concrete for coping, so if anyone hits their head, it's not a sharp corner. Lompoc 2" stack-stone for the walls, pylons, and fire pit, and my most favorite part of the build: Artistic "corallock" random design pavers for the grippiest, safest, non-slip decking. The whole process of this remodel was great because of the communication from the front office, their management of their crews, and logistics of the materials being on time and in stock. We all agree this was a home run and clearly we lucked out. The original pool is from the 1980's, and it had no cracks in its shell, maybe because it's dead center in our yard and there's nothing pushing up against it. The plumbing was already pvc so no issues there as well. We changed out all the original equipment to Pentair variable speed pumps paired with a Raypack heater, put in deck jets, and LED lights. This was so much fun working with these guys through what most people complain and dread during construction, we will definitely be calling again when needed. read more

We decided to remodel our 1990 era pool, interviewed several contractor and reviewed their quotes. We selected Alan Smith Pools based on interaction, input and recommendations from our Project Manager Jason Stewart who was very accessible and willing to assist us in the selection of materials i.e. flagstone for the coping, tile and finish. We visited a previous customer to view their pool and opinion on the level of service they received from ASP. They were very complimentary which factored into our decision to select ASP. The other Contractors provided a minimal effort by providing an estimate with little or no follow up. Once we signed an agreement we were told it would be four months before construction would begin which gave us ample time to work through the material selection process which was the hardest part of the entire project as we were envisioning something that was contrary to what we have lived with for a long time. Construction was a unique experience with ASP in regards to how they schedule theirs crews, before construction started they committed to completing the work in approximately 2 months. There were minor delays due to rain and Covid impacting their crews. ASP has different crews for each phase of the work, demolition, repair, coping, plaster, tile and startup so you get the idea of what to expect. Emails for schedule notifications are sent the day before or on the day that crew will arrive onsite. I have to admit that took getting used to but was not a game changer. CJ Aragon was the construction superintendent, very personable, knowledgeable and responsive to my questions and concerns as they came up. You can see from the before and after photos the dramatic transformation that occurred with our pool and spa, we are ready for warm weather but in the interim have added another phase to the project, stay tuned! All in all we wanted to share our experience with Alan Smith Pools and would heartily recommend them for your pool project! Update - I was contacted by a pleasant and professional company representative who addressed my concerns and ultimately had the issue resolved in a timely manner. I appreciate the time and consideration given to my issue by this representative and the helpful and professional techs that were sent out to my home to address my issue. Terrible customer service. No return phone calls. Completely unresponsive to requests for assistance with work performed by the company. Spent thousands of dollars about three years ago on new plaster, tile, light. Something is terribly wrong with the pool light they installed. It appears to have melted from the inside and spider cracked which looks so hazardous we will not use the pool until resolved. I called them for assistance and they refused to come out to inspect and help me resolve. I'm not looking for a free light as it appears it's out of warranty. I only wanted them to inspect to ensure it was installed correctly as it should not have melted and cracked in under three years. The "head of plumbing and electrical" was so rude and unwilling to help. He told me "If you're so worried about your kids being electrocuted, call an electrician!" I in fact have an electrician coming out to inspect THEIR work now. Perhaps it has nothing to do with Alan Smith Pools, but some assistance from them in determining that would have been appreciated after spending thousands with the company. To Jeff who responded- thanks but I've hired another company and they've already removed my fiberglass finish and are replastering my pool. We chose Alan Smith Pools because several of our neighbors highly recommended them and now that our pool plastering and tiling project is complete I can see why. The project was entirely painless because of the excellent project team led by our project superintendent Ken. Each day during the project, we were advised via email of the type of work being performed. The team was always on time and cleaned up at the end of the day. Ken managed the process of obtaining the city inspections and permit in a professional and timely manner. We had a relatively tight deadline because of arriving houseguests, and the pool was replastered and ready to go as promised. We had a small issue after the pool was completed, and Ken immediately responded to my email and scheduled a minor fix within a couple of days. Quality of work is sh*t. Plaster is discolored and rough, had a couple of their people come out and all with different reasons for it. They put the blame on our pool service provider, when the pool service was a non issue prior to pool resurfacing. Customer service is garbage, they took 2 months to call back. A tech came out to fix the pool light gfi, the guy said I could fix it myself and even marked in his paperwork that he completed it. I would never recommend this company, not even to my worst enemy. Our pool needed a major update and Alan Smith Pools did a wonderful job! We have a lot of above-water tile and wanted to replace it with large-format tiles which could be difficult to work with so we were glad to have the benefit of ASP's experience working with tile. When questions arose, they were able to offer different options and solutions. We also resurfaced the bottom of the pool and we love the look of the pebble finish. The office staff does a good job of providing updates on the project and I received an email each day letting me know when workers would arrive the next day. We recently undertook a remodeling project of our pool and spa which entailed the construction of a watersilde, new spa construction and resurfacing of our existing pool. Alan Smith Pools was the general contractor for the project and installed all the piping, constructed the new spa and resurfaced our pool. Rock Tech Rockscapes and Waterfall Designs constructed and installed the waterslide and waterfall. Aldia Outdoor Design developed the 3-D plans and Outdoor Lighting Perspectives designed and installed the landscape lighting. We are delighted with the final product and are looking forward to enjoying our summer with our children's families. Despite some coordination issues regarding the initial demolition, working with Alan Smith Pools and C J Aragon, as the overall project manager for Alan Smith Pools, was pleasant and the project was completed in time for our 2022 spring and summer swim schedule. We are extremely pleased with the outcome of our new yard. The waterslide and waterfall utilize space in our yard that was essentially unusable in the past. The integration of the slide into our existing pool seems as if it was originally built this way. The new spa with the infinity edge is comfortable and provides an excellent view of the pool and spa so we can watch our children and grandchildren as they use the slide and pool. My experience with Alan Smith Pools was outstanding. I chose them to re-surface my pool after receiving several recommendations from people in the business for the excellent reputation and good work they perform. Darren L. (Residential Sales) came to my house and thoroughly explained the process and my options. I was invited to their impressive showroom to view and choose a finish from their extensive surface and color offerings. I picked out a great looking "crystal blue" sandstone finish. Throughout the few days the work was performed, I was kept informed daily by email about the crew that would be arriving the following day and the work they would perform. Every morning a different crew would arrive that specialized in a particular stage of the process (preparation, demolition/hydro-blasting, finish application, clean-up and initial water treatment). They were all very cordial and professional. Clearly, Alan Smith Pools employs a very well-trained staff that utilizes the latest equipment. I was very impressed with every stage of the operation. The application of the new finish was fascinating. A crew of a dozen workers are used too coordinate blending the products into the mixer in the driveway and pumping to the pool where it is applied. It appeared to me that a pebble-stone finish requires precision, timing and expertize to produce the best results. They absolutely know what they are doing. The final result is breathtaking. The clean-up stage was incredible as they thoroughly cleaned and power washed the tile, coping, surrounding landscape, fencing, patio, driveway, and street gutter. Many thanks to Salvador who was there for about 4 hours and did an incredible job with a portable power washer and other tools. My property looked cleaner and better than ever when they were done. I give Alan Smith Pools my highest endorsement, for whatever that's worth. I have a background in the pool business, though I've been out of it for about 15 years and have zero local contacts anymore. I got their name from a brother who lives in Livermore who is still in the biz. My elderly in-laws have a 45 yr old pool that needed replaster, tile, and repair of a broken suction line beneath the skimmer. Our first contact was with Jason Stewart, one of their salesmen. He was prompt, professional, and so kind to my 85 year old in-laws as they told him sooo many stories of their immigration and home purchase and pool purchase. My father in-law has been known to pinch a penny or two and he was making Abe squeal as each part of the job was discussed. Jason promised us (John & Kirsten asked me to oversee the job), an itemized estimate by midnight the next night. Son of a gun, it showed up at 11:45 pm. He did not try to up-sell, shame, or encourage any product over another. He answered every single question. We made multiple job changes and were not penalized once, except that we knew some changes would stretch the time till completion. In addition, he gave us a best case and a worst case time schedule, and then they proceeded to beat every time frame. 28 days from setting the drains to a full, beautiful, pool. (I am not suggesting this can be achieved regularly, but we purposely chose early Spring to beat the Summer rush). We received emails, and texts in some cases) telling us when the next phase would start and when they would show up. Never once did they not show, though we did get rained out one time. And they were without fail in-house crews, no subs. And they were all very very good at their jobs. It did end up costing more than the original cost of the pool, something that John mused quite a bit about, but he is as satisfied as he can be about value for his spent money. read more

I'm calling BS on Jeff Smith's comment about doing over 700 pools a year. No way you are finishing 2 pools a day. 365 days x 2 =730 pools for the year? We had our old 1969 style pool redone by Alan Smith Pools. We requested quotes from 3 companies and went with Alan Smith. Our sales rep - Chris - was the best. He came over when he said he would and he met us at the showroom to help pick out tile and go over the different types of plaster finishes and copings. There were several teams that came to our house to remove the old pool, install new plumbing, install a new Baja Shelf, do the coping and plastering and tile installation. Everyone on the teams were friendly and got along with our dogs. They cleaned up after themselves and did a great job. We received many comments from our friends and family this summer about how wonderful the pool looks. We love the new Baja Shelf. When a friend decided that he saw a rust spot in our pool and tried to fix it, he bleached out the pebble tech leaving an obvious white spot. Alan Smith Pools sent an employee over, no charge, and fixed the bleached out area. We didn't even have to drain the pool! read more
