Honolulu Alaska Air check in. Stand in line with both your hand carry and checked luggage to be scanned. Next, You need to scan your boarding pass or check in on the app in order to print your luggage tags. Proceed to bag drop with an agent. You can request a wheel chair to the gate here if needed. Go through TSA check point then continue on to your gate. We are presently waiting at Gate E2. Comfortable temperature( spaghetti straps and t shirts, not many passengers wearing their jackets yet. Very soothing background music being played. A few passed out since early wake up to get to the airport for the first flight out. Fingers crossed for smooth flight as we've experienced Kona low storm the past few days. Weather forecast predicted rain at 6 a.m. so far so good.

I booked a round trip flight via online app to AK a few months in advance. Received an email the night before that my HA departure flight will leave Monday morning instead of Sunday evening, contact the airlines for rescheduling or refund. Hoped and prayed that there will be a change in email or flight status. My thoughts, "Hell no, I refuse to be late for my younger sister's wedding!" My intuition told me go sleep now. Plan of action: wake up a few hours later, if no changes via online app and email, call HA first, followed by AK. I woke up in the wee hours Sunday morning, called HA and was informed my flights are connected, and my flights were booked with AK, HA agent will connect me now to AK agent. Thanked HA agent. Immediately connected with Alaska Airlines agent named Hope. Hope informed me that all my flights are connected. I inquired with Hope if there's a departure flight to SEA available for same day? I would like to keep my connecting flight and departure flight the same. She rescheduled my departure flight which is now AK to Sunday afternoon so I wouldn't miss my connecting flight from SEA to ANC early Monday morning. She kept my connecting and departure flights the same. I thanked Hope for her help and attention to rescheduling for free before we ended the call. Best part - there were no additional charges, remained calm under duress. Hope and Alaska Airlines crew were lifesavers!

How is this crap even legal? I guess receipts are optional now? Since Alaska Air took over Hawaiian it's gone to Crap. The telephone number's handy if you have a couple hours to spare waiting on hold. Swimming would be a better option

Traveling to the Continental USA from Honolulu via Alaska Airlines for the first time... because Hawaiian Airlines, my usual carrier, doesn't fly to New Jersey! Booking a ticket online was easy! I even was emailed an update when the flight times of one of the legs of this trip changed. I was able to check-in online, got my Departure Gate, and received my boarding passes on my phone, too! Service was excellent at the gate because passengers were offered free check-in luggage for our carry-on bags - since there's limited overhead compartment space. I volunteered my bag. It should arrive tomorrow in New Jersey when we get there. On board, flight attendants were extremely helpful when I showed them my bleeding finger. I was given 2 band-aids and antibiotic ointment! One flight attendant even dabbed the pooling blood from my finger before it dripped! LOL! The seat has great support for the back! The headrest has side flaps to prevent leaning on the persons sitting next to me. Because I have T-Mobile, Wi-Fi is free on board! Otherwise, it would be $8. I can watch many movies, text, and write Yelp reviews! Haha! Overall, the flight was relatively smooth and uneventful. We had some turbulent sessions before we landed, but nothing major. I appreciate the Biscoff cookies, Pretzels with Monk Fruit/garlic seasoning, and cups of water and guava juice! Cony and Brown even received chocolates and a pair of flight wings!!! Thank you, Alaska Airlines, for a safe, fun adventure! Thanks to my friends for texting, complimenting, and making comments on my posts... I didn't have time to watch any movies!

(Traveled 08/29/24 TH @ 2:05pm and several times before and after): I'll ask ya... how was the flight!? Alaska Airlines recently became one of my favorite airlines, and by default my airline of choice to/from Honolulu, Hawaii to visit while I checked on the property my family recently acquired and a few new clients I picked up along the way. Additionally, they've also become my airline of choice to/from Newark, New Jersey. Although my favorite domestic carrier Southwest Airlines flew to Hawaii, their fares always seemed to be a tad higher and oftentimes didn't have direct flights. Plus, I was able to get mileage points! This was my story: PURCHASE One-Way Coach Cabin Super Saver Airfare ($148.20): Since I booked the flight roughly three months before its departure, this fare was within my comfort level of $150.00 for any one-way domestic air travel during the high season (summer months). On an afternoon flight out of Honolulu HNL that arrived in Los Angeles LAX https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=8jVT2inwc8GIQ6sH2UG9Vw&select=KmZs01gm6Lhobxj3ei_CbA around 9:45pm the same day, the one-way flight departed and nearly arrived on-time. Checked Luggage (N/A): Thankfully, I traveled light and only had a carry-on and backpack. Otherwise, they customarily charged $30.00/bag. With the exception of Southwest Airlines or you were a high-ranking passenger, basically all carriers charged for checked luggage. C'est la vie... FLIGHT EXPERIENCE ~Check-in: I checked-in online 24-hours prior, had my QR code boarding pass on their app, and traveled with only a carry-on and backpack, so I was ready to go! Then, it was off to the security checkpoints and through the necessary TSA Pre-Check pleasantries (thankfully, all the passengers knew what they needed to do). Once that was done, I was released to my plane's gate and left to my own devices with the sadness that always came when having to return home to reality - bummer! ~Seats: Come on, it was the same sardine can like all airplanes these days, so unless you were in Business or First Class you got to know your neighbors to the left, right, front, and back of you! ~In-flight Meals/Snacks (Varied; only snacks this instance): The drink cart along with a small packaged snack https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=8jVT2inwc8GIQ6sH2UG9Vw&select=5xNtgrUalPa_sGREd-lc6A came out once we were at coasting altitude. Alcohol and some kind of food were made available for purchase. I normally didn't purchase such things on a flight. https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=8jVT2inwc8GIQ6sH2UG9Vw&select=euZWS7R8AReVqC1aNuaOHA ~Lavatory: I got my business done at the one in the back of the plane. Plenty of toilet paper, paper towels, and facial tissues... but could've been cleaned more often. ~Service & Amenities: All uniformly-dressed flight attendants were adequate and spoke perfect English. None of the seats had video monitors for movie/show watching, music listening, and games playing. The seats themselves were roomy enough. No blankets, headphones, or pillows were provided. Because of the afternoon flight time, the attendants didn't come around as often which was fine in this case. There were no carry-on baggage fees. PARKING (Varied; N/A this instance) I was traveling through and had no need to park. However, the airport offered onsite parking structures with rates that varied from FREE (less than 15 minutes) to $25.00/daily maximum. Because this was located within Terminal 2 of departing flights, you had to already be an outgoing or incoming passenger to even get here, so parking would be a moot point. ATMOSPHERE, DÉCOR, AMBIENCE Located deep into Terminal 2 (specifically near Gates E4-E10) filled with several gates, plenty of reasonably-priced eateries and duty-free shops, and a handful of monitors as you passed them along the way. There were sufficient places to sit in the terminal with plenty of natural and electric lighting. Once on the airplane, it seemed like any other, so nothing really needed to be said or seen here, but I wished I recalled the type of plane since I was nerdy like that! https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=8jVT2inwc8GIQ6sH2UG9Vw&select=_vCaZ6Yb83pmvgQXQgX8AQ ATTIRE Totally casual, so I would normally be in a t-shirt, boardshorts, and flip-flops. I liked to be unencumbered and unfettered, so the least amount of clothing, especially while I traveled through an airport, the better! OVERALL My one-way flight on Alaska Airlines out of HNL was fine and got me home safely which truthfully was all that mattered to me on any domestic flights. I wished there were seat video monitors that helped pass the time. In any case, I'd fly and recommend them again. I found very good value based on the prices, service, and experience noted above (TOTAL paid experience was around $148.00 BEFORE any discounts and/or tip). And, they accepted my credit card of choice...AMEX! 4.0 STARS

I have been a Pualani Platinum for over 20 years and now an Atmos Gold. Since the "merger" customer service has gone to crap. I should have been sitting in extra comfort with my child on the way to the mainland. Got bumped to the back and in order to sit together I had to give up her upgrade. Now I want a refund for the seat upgrade and we will see how that goes. So far Alaska is truly a discount airlines, not Costco discount but Walmart ghetto discount.

First experience, switched over from Hawaiian Airlines to Atmos. Had to set up a new account with Atmos. Next day, tried signing in to account unable to because password incorrect(password was correct on my end). Selected *forgot my Password*. Created new password. Still didn't work. 6 attempts. Called customer service robot said, "agent will take call in 16mins". 80 mins later. Still waiting....

It got me where I a wanted to go on time and fairly comfortably in economy. No complaints. My flight crew: Awesome! What still needs to be worked out is the check-ins and my Hawaiian Airlines benefits. They're the same corporate but they're not the same airlines. If you book an itinerary with different airlines on different legs, be ready to have two accounts, one for each airline. Note your confirmation codes. There's two. One for Hawaiian, one for Alaska. If your first leg is on a Hawaiian, check in on the Hawaiian app. If it's on Alaska, on the return flight, for example, check in on the Alaska app. Two free bags on Hawaiian? No free bags on Alaska. (That was always the case, partner airlines don't recognize other airline's' benefits. Roll your carry-on bag to the gate and check it in for free.) Purchased your tickets on Hawaiian? No points on Alaska. Be sure to have a seat assignment before you order your free meal on Alaska, the order is tied to the seat. If you booked the low cost fare that assigns your seat at check-in, check in early online, and then, order your free meal. Enjoy.

High call waiting times confirmed. Been on hold for 1 hour 40 minutes.

Ask the Community - Alaska Airlines

Will be flying from Oakland to Kona...This is first time on Alaska. So what can I expect? The website is not clear on what is offered like Wi-Fi and how is the legroom? Will we feel like sardines?

This line also provides quick guidance for updating travel plans, checking flight details, and dealing with unexpected changes, ensuring a smooth and hassle-free chance. As an Emerald member within the oneworld alliance, I have generally enjoyed complimentary seat selection on partner airlines, which has set a certain expectation when flying internationally. Unfortunately, this Hawaiian Airlines experience did not align with that standard. I paid an additional $140 for seats that were presented during booking as offering a more favorable configuration. However, after boarding, my wife and I discovered that the actual seating arrangement differed from what had been shown at the time of purchase. Being charged extra for seats that did not match the displayed layout was disappointing. My assigned seat, *6K*, was also less comfortable than anticipated, mainly due to inadequate cushioning. The lack of proper lower back support made the flight noticeably uncomfortable, and I relied on additional pillows and blankets throughout much of the journey to manage the discomfort. On longer flights, seat quality is a key factor in overall satisfaction, and this aspect did not meet expectations. The customer service experience was equally frustrating. I first contacted an agent in Detroit to clarify details regarding my flight and aircraft. I was then transferred to another department, reportedly based in Chicago, where I was informed they could not assist and was redirected to yet another contact number. That call ultimately looped back to the original Detroit agent. After several transfers and repeatedly explaining my situation, I finally reached someone who could provide the basic information I had been seeking from the outset. Once onboard, the aircraft itself appeared clean, modern, and well maintained, and most of the flight attendants were professional and attentive despite a busy cabin environment. However, as the flight progressed, the onboard experience became less comfortable. Several passengers were loud and inconsiderate, and the lavatories became increasingly untidy within a few hours, with visible mess and sinks needing attention. While I do recognize the professionalism and effort of the cabin crew under demanding conditions, the inconsistent customer service, uncomfortable seating, and declining cabin cleanliness ultimately outweighed the positives. Based on this experience, I would carefully compare other airlines before considering Hawaiian Airlines again for similar travel in the future.

I recently flew one-way with Southwest Airlines from Daniel K. Inouye International Airport (HNL) Terminal 2 to Los Angeles International Airport (LAX). They had been my favorite domestic carrier for years (I wished they flew internationally!) until Alaska Airlines dethroned them with more routes. Southwest Airlines cornered the southwest and west coast air traffic markets, respectively, and have flown them for business and pleasure. Did this airline still rule the southwest skies!? PURCHASE(S) One-Way Wanna-Get-Away Airfare ($253.10): Nowadays, I booked one-way flights because I usually had more flexibility when I needed to return. However, in this particular case, I needed to be back in Los Angeles for a work event the next afternoon. Since I booked the flight less than three weeks before its departure, I was basically screwed for domestic air travel during the medium season (I returned right after the spring break window). On a red-eye direct flight that arrived in Los Angeles around 5:30am the next morning, it allowed me enough time to get home, get ready, and get to my work event. Checked Luggage (Varied; N/A this instance): This once FREE amenity has since been removed and now was a paid expense. I traveled very light, especially for a quick trip such as this, so I only had a carry-on and backpack. FLIGHT EXPERIENCE ~Check-in: I checked-in online 24-hours prior (Group 3), had my QR code boarding pass on their app, and traveled with only a carryon and backpack, so I was ready to go! I had Global Entry & TSA PreCheck, so my time with security checkpoints and the necessary TSA pleasantries was efficient and minimal. When it was time, passengers were queued-up in order of their boarding group (i.e. A/B/C). The flight felt like it arrived shortly after it departed. ~Seat(s): 27A Window - Come on, it was the same sardine can like all airplanes these days. Recently, Southwest Airlines started assigning seats, so it was no longer a free-for-all once you boarded the plane. I always favored a window seat towards the back of the plane close to the restroom and snacks. The drink/snack cart rolled out shortly after the plane leveled off after takeoff. There were no carry-on baggage fees. However, the airport offered onsite parking garages with rates that varied depending on length of stay from FREE (less than 15 minutes) and around $1.00 (16-30 minutes) to a range of $27.00/daily maximum (8+ hours). Alcoholic beverages are available for purchase on most flights, though they may be complimentary for passengers in upgraded "Extra Legroom" seating. I like Southwest Airlines. *Full Disclosure* Yelp is not available in Thailand, but is present in The Philippines…read more These flights were from HNL-MNL on 04/13/23, MNL-BKK on 04/14/23. A week later BKK-MNL on 04/20/24 and return flight MNL-HNL on 04/27/23. All my reviews in Thailand are on my Tripadvisor account. Me and my other half's last time flying on PAL was Precovid Feb 2020. Not only they are The Philippines Flagship Carrier, they are the oldest airline in Asia. Although they can get you to major destinations across Asia and all ASEAN countries, they aren't in Alliance with other major airline carriers. Booking online was easy. Upon waking up that morning prior to departure, I noticed the flight was delayed by 1 1/2 hours. Which gave ample time to make our way to the airport to grab a bite and coffee before boarding the plane. Online check-in was successful, with 3 hours check-in time, it was sufficient. Having Global Entry membership allows you to expedite security via TSA Precheck only in Honolulu and other US Airports. I must say, that the ground staff from check-in to boarding were efficient and friendly. One piece of information I failed to pack was my Vaccination card or take a photo of both front and back of the card. My fault, I assumed restrictions were lowered and didn't do my proper research prior to the flight. The customer service agent just checked me in and I had the choice of heading back home to pick up my vax card, or chance myself when entering The Philippines without proof of vaccination. Thailand dropped all restrictions from our previous visit Fall of last year. As a foreign traveler entering The Philippines, you're required to complete your eTravel registration to declare proof of vaccination, similar to when entering Japan when proof of vaccination was required. When complete, the website will issue a QR Code prior to entering the country. Service onboard was excellent. Available onboard entertainment on each seat back screens. Being seated in Economy Class, I noticed both lunch and dinner meals includes silverware. For long-haul flights, I'm content. Between Honolulu and Manila, onboard amenities were a pillow & blanket, toothbrush, earphones, two complimentary meals including a mid flight snack, alcohol including red or white wine, beer and other nonalcoholic beverages. Between Manila and Bangkok, it was almost the same. No amenity's were provided on a A321 and each seat back had no inflight screen monitors. But there was a dinner served on the flight going to BKK. Lunch on the return, and free inflight entertainment on each seatback furnished by an A330-300 aircraft. PAL occupies Terminals 1&2 at Manila International Airport(NAIA). When transferring between terminals, it was a bit of organized chaos. What the customer service agent in Honolulu advised us that our checked luggages would automatically transfer between MNL & BKK. Both us and a Thai passenger didn't have faith that our bags would make it through to our final destination. We all had to double check over and over. There was an airport transfer that would shuttle passengers from T1 to T2 without leaving the airport premises. You're escorted by a ticket agent to bypass immigration and customs, and it's required you pass through another security screening as if you are entering an airport for the first time, very similar to making a transit at Incheon Airport. It's not an huge airport like Haneda Airport, but every single person onboard and in NAIA are English friendly, and the most helpful and friendliest airline personnel I've ever come across! Maybe in the future if booked in Business Class, I'd update my review for later.

You don't really know till you try something yourself at least once right? This was the first time…read morewe flew a budget airline and it was quite the experience. We're thankful that at least they participated in TSA Pre out of HNL. Zipair is the budget airline for JAL. The reviews online were positive so we decided to give them a try on our trip to Japan. Reviews were mostly for the lay flat seating option though. Overall, they offered competitive prices but with all the upgrades and options you pay for, it ended up more than Hawaiian Airlines. I compared to my friend's airfare that he paid to go to Japan (he paid $60 or so less than us). If you fly with the lay flat seats then it probably is worth it but those seats were sold out when we booked. Check in does take awhile and I think it's because of the luggage restrictions. We saw many people shuffle around items so that their carry on luggage along with personal item is under 7kg at the check in counter. Yes, they weigh everything when you check in. If it's over, you will have to pay to check it in. There were so many carry on luggage at baggage claim. 7kg isn't much. I put my laptop, a watch, a few charging cables, a microfiber cloth and a box of cookies (omiyage) and it was 6.7kg. It was mostly empty so that's not much. If I put a jacket inside, it would have been over. The check in luggage can weigh up to 30kg. You will have to pay for the check in luggage vs the usual 2 complimentary check ins with international flights. It took a long time to get our luggage at luggage claim which was a little annoying. The plane itself is ok, nothing special. There are no screens at any seat so no entertainment unless you have a tablet or smartphone. Usually on international flights, you get unlimited drinks but you pay for each drink on Zipair. I spent a lot because I can't sleep on a plane very long and I was bored lol. Also, you usually get a complimentary meal on international flights but you have to purchase it with Zipair. Our upgraded package that we paid for included it and Mink said the food was ok. I don't eat airplane food so I can't really say anything. I did drink the bottled water that came with the meal though lol. Make sure to have your boarding pass available because they check it to see if you have a meal or not. Mink had a hard time locating ours and the flight attendant grabbed her property to look for it. That is unacceptable. It did take awhile for her to find it but she just woke up and was a little disoriented. The flight attendant had no right to touch our property without our consent to look for it. At least the seats had a power outlet to charge your devices. The flight attendants were all on the younger side and they offered ok service. Aside from one of them touching our property without consent, it was decent service. The person who checked us in at HNL was extremely friendly and the highlight of our experience with Zipair. Some things that weren't Zipair's fault was the kid behind us on the flight back. Imagine kicking your seat most of the flight back. That's on the parents. The girl next to me on the flight back couldn't stop throwing up. This was before we hit a lot of turbulence. She had to even take the bag from my seat to throw up in. There was also a lady that sat next to me which was the wrong seat then made a big deal about it someone else sitting in her seat in the row in front of us. To top it all off, the two planes colliding occurred while we were on the plane in Japan. It caused some delays but it made the trip memorable. Oh they land and depart from Terminal 1 in Narita for those who need to know for airport pickup and drop off. Would I fly them again? Probably not as a couple but possibly solo or on a boys trip since I don't need to pack a lot. Also, probably would want to fly with the lay flat seating option if available since our experience with economy was not so great. We had to toss new clothes, a pair of boots purchased right before that trip, food and miscellaneous beauty items so that we would make weight and close our check in luggage. What a waste of money. No time to get another luggage to put all the items we tossed and check that in. We already had limited space going to Japan but had zero space coming back. At least we had a life experience flying on a budget airline and they didn't lose our luggage. 2.5 stars

I absolutely love Zip Airlines! In typical Japanese fashion, it's a ala carte pricing where if…read moreyou're only carrying 8 kg of carry-on luggage, roughly 15 lb, then you're probably paying the lowest price from Honolulu to Tokyo. However, if you would like to add a check-in luggage, pick your seat, and include an inflight meal, you have that option to do so when you book your ticket. Every seat on the flight includes unlimited Wi-Fi which allows you to stream movies or check the internet and send messages for free. If you want to order food or drinks, you can do so via the inflight app and you are served promptly and for a very reasonable price. Just for fun, I tried the children's meal and it was delicious. I also had the Tapas with a highball which is whiskey soda. I actually think this is really delicious in Flight economy food. If you want to pay more then you can even get a lay flat seat in their business class but beware that even though you're paying more for a business class seat you don't get a blanket or pillow unless you pay for that too. Frankly I think this is the way to go that you just pay for what you want. Definitely very strongly recommended!

After the initial cancellations, we were rebooked on United for the first leg to LAX -- and that ended up being an excellent flight. The service was smooth, professional, and truly exceeded expectations. The crew was attentive, the aircraft was comfortable, and the overall experience immediately relieved a lot of the stress from the earlier disruptions. From LAX, we switched back to Delta for the next leg to Honolulu. Delta went above and beyond to make the delay easier on us: * Overnight hotel accommodations provided * Food vouchers covered meals * Uber transportation to and from the airport was arranged Those extra steps made a huge difference and showed a real commitment to customer care. By the time we boarded the final leg of our journey, everything felt seamless again. What started as a frustrating travel day truly turned into a reminder of how great airline service can be when teams go the extra mile. Huge thanks to both United and Delta for making sure we were taken care of every step of the way. We finally arrived in Kona with our spirits high and gratitude even higher. Highly recommend -- top-notch service all around.

On the most recent trip, I flew United in the F gate area, and the food options were mediocre at best. Two burger kings, panda express, CPK, and mainland style poke spot, and none of the options were great. I definitely feel like it's a miss opportunity to have more local spots be featured at the airport (SFO is a great example of this) so those are craving one last local meal can get a taste one last time. While expected, the food is grossly overpriced and food quality isn't the best. The gates definitely feel dark and dingy at times, but hopefully when the renovation project is completed, it comes out to be more of a more enjoyable airport experience that matches the magic of the Hawaiian islands!

Dining options are plentiful: Lahaina Chicken (rotisserie yum), The Local @ HNL for fresh local fare, CPK, Panda Express, Kona Brewing, Starbucks, and more. Good variety for a quick bite before your flight. Heads up: It's very open-air, so it can get quite hot and humid. Dress light and stay hydrated. Still, the breezes, tropical scents of plumeria and greenery make it worthwhile. Highly recommend arriving early to enjoy the gardens. Aloha! (Would return for a layover any day.)

We've been coming to Hilton Hawaiian Village…read morefor years and have stayed in just about every tower except one, and we've enjoyed each experience. We're not high-maintenance travelers--we simply appreciate the opportunity to spend quality time together, and every stay here creates lasting memories. One of our favorite conveniences is the ABC Stores on the property. They're reasonably priced and have surprisingly good sushi and poke bowls for a quick meal. This summer visit was noticeably busier than our fall stays. The pools were definitely crowded, and the village was packed with tourists. While people say tourism is down, that certainly wasn't our experience--it felt very lively throughout our stay. Instead of driving, we used Lyft to visit the Waikīkī International Market Place, which ended up being much cheaper than paying for parking and was well worth it. During this trip, we stayed in the Kalia Tower and loved our room's view overlooking the ocean, lagoon, harbor, and even the marketplace below. My husband also enjoyed using the fitness center. He mentioned it was busiest in the mornings and mid-afternoons, so evenings seemed like the best time to work out. One of the highlights of our stay was our daily feathered visitor--a pigeon that stopped by to greet us every day, which became a fun little tradition. Overall, we had another wonderful stay and made more great family memories. We're already looking forward to coming back again next year!

There is quite a distance from the gates to baggage check. With the storm being fully active when we landed (late due to delay) with part of the airport passage ways being open air, there was flooding in certain areas between the gates and baggage claim. Our baggage came down rather quickly and we were greeted with Leis & a shuttle to our hotel. Though some of the areas were wet and flooded, this airport is really well run. Even upon our return to head back to the mainland, TSA lines were not outrageous and fairly quick to get through security. One thing we did notice when flying out of this airport was that all carry on baggage must go through an additional xray machine right before boarding, this is an agriculture check - which takes boarding the plane take slightly longer than other airports. Even with the added step getting through the airport was a breeze.

Hawaiian Airlines is the worst airline organization I have ever seen in my entire life. I will…read morestand by that statement until the day I die. I have traveled across the Middle East, Europe, and Africa. I have flown to more countries than I can count. I've gone through airports with insecure systems, airports where absolutely zero English was spoken, and somehow still managed to check my bags and get my items where they needed to go. This is not a personal opinion. This is a fact based on experience. Hawaiian Airlines is the most disorganized airline I have ever seen in my life, and honestly, I could see them going out of business. As you can see from the pictures, there is absolutely nobody assisting customers. I don't know if they are short-staffed because they refuse to hire people or refuse to pay decent wages, but nobody is there to help because the employees themselves appear overwhelmed with responsibility. Secondly, you have to wait in a completely separate line just to get your bags tagged. If the system fails and doesn't allow you to check in properly, you have to restart the entire process from the beginning. Then, after finally tagging your bags, there is another completely separate line just to drop the bags off. If something goes wrong again, you are sent all the way back to the beginning. It makes absolutely no sense. You know the system where you get your bag tag and boarding pass, then drop your bags? The system used by 99.9% of airlines? I assume Hawaiian Airlines leadership said, "I have an idea. I'm going to make this whole system complicated and confusing for my customers." There are multiple breakdowns in this entire process. You have five employees running back and forth trying to help move bags, but only one main line that splits into two checkpoints for customers trying to check in. Instead of having workers properly stationed at counters assisting customers with bag weighing and bag drop, they have thousands of kiosks with nobody available to help anyone use them. Customers are left standing around trying to figure out broken computer systems that do not scan properly, do not recognize confirmation codes, and constantly fail during check-in. It is a complete mess. I will say this: the flight attendants were very nice, the plane itself was wonderful, and the staff assisting once I finally made it to the front were helpful. But the entire experience beforehand was unnecessarily complicated for absolutely no reason. There are actual classes and professional systems dedicated to organization and customer flow, and Hawaiian Airlines would greatly benefit from them because they are completely failing in this aspect. Lastly, Hawaiian Airlines needs to get its shit together.
