Due to medical issues haven't been able to go anywhere more than 25 miles away the past year but had the privilege of flying 1st class/compliments of my brother recently to Santa Barbara....the salad I had was one of the best I've ever had anywhere; bloody mary's are great(I had virgins this time but not last...ha-ha)and the sandwiches and various other meals are amazing....particularly satisfying was the hot choc chip cookie at the end of the flight....wowser....keep up the great work/quality, etc....very enjoyable experience! I've flown Alaska exclusively for the last couple years, I started a role that has me taking about 20 trips per year and I decided to lean in to air miles and status. Last night I had to make a last minute flight change-i called Alaska and they said they could accommodate the change, but I would need to pay an additional $380. My gold status at least allowed me to cancel and get a credit for a future flight. I was able to get a SW flight for half the cost and they treated me every bit as well as Alaska. I guess status is nothing more than air miles. Lesson learned. read more

Disappointing Gate Experience at SNA Frequent business traveler here. Alaska Airlines seriously dropped the ball at John Wayne Airport (SNA) on Flight 750 (1/16/26). First, credit where it's due: the ticket agent was great -- professional, patient, and actually tried to help. He took time to call and verify whether my bag could be checked and handled the situation appropriately. The gate agent, however, was the complete opposite. I cleared TSA with no issues and arrived at the gate while boarding was still in progress. I politely asked to gate-check my bag. Instead of assistance, I was met with hostility and accusations. I was questioned about whether TSA had "let me through with that bag," told I might need to be rebooked despite being checked in, and spoken to in a dismissive, condescending tone. When I mentioned I had a meeting to get to, I was cut off and told, "You need to be on time. It's not our fault you are late." When I explained I arrived at ticketing about 55 minutes prior, I was essentially called a liar. In the end, the bag was checked and I was allowed to board -- proving this never needed to escalate. To top it off, I was told the incident would be "documented on my account," as if I had done something wrong by following instructions and arriving at the gate during boarding. Unnecessary attitude, poor customer service, and zero accountability. I travel for work and will be choosing other airlines going forward. read more

Bag drop off at PDX was a nightmare! Checked in online so I could use the bag drop kiosks. The bag belt kept malfunctioning so we were redirected 3 times! It took longer to drop off my bags than it was to go through TSA. All new fancy machines and yet a lot of issues to work through. Definitely wasn't rolled out thoughtfully. Recent flight from TUC to PDX in First Class. Opted for the Carne Asada with rice lunch. Carne Asada was good...but as the photo shows...five small bite size pieces of steak was all you get...and a lot of rice. Your website is most user unfriendly EVER! The Alaska/Hawaiian phone app and computer website feels like it's updating the software as I'm entering my info. On both my phone and laptop, sometimes it feels like it's clicking on options by itself and the screen changes. In short, it's not as user friendly as the old Hawaiian applications. I never know exactly what I'm doing because the Alaska pages are not information rich. By the time I get to the point of buying the tickets I have no confidence in what I purchased. Furthermore, you can't see if your flight is crowded until you buy the ticket. I find that very manipulative! I have been flying Alaska my whole life and I like it. Staff is nice. I mean they could use some work on the Internet, but they are really good when it comes to customer service and they fly extremely well. It's always smooth. UPDATE************* if you get a meal voucher for flight delay: I just got one in Kona, Hawaii, emailed with a QR code and the CC info printed. $96, seemed generous. I was concerned about the 'participating' venues statement. yet this is clearly a credit card. We dined at a restaurant that took Mastercard and the server took a while to figure out how to manually enter the card number - it helped that I read it to her as she keyed it in. But it worked! And for that, I left a super generous tip as we only consumed about $30 of food. Flying isn't the enjoyable experience it used to be. Flights are expensive. Planes are overbooked. Seats are small. Airlines don't even provide food and beverages on some flights. That said, this flight wasn't that bad. The flight attendants handed out small boxes of water (no other bevs available). The flight was short enough that the reduced seating wasn't incredibly uncomfortable. The flight attendants were pleasant. The chest height portholes offered a little view of the sky. Arrived at the airport to find that I had 3 reservations open and all of them were the wrong dates. Will not be using this service again and will just book through Avis personally instead of trying to go for the Alaska points on their Alaska rental cars website. My experience with Alaska Airlines was at LAX on October 11, 2024. I was told to drop my already checked luggage at a nearby area. When I got there, the girl barely looked up and just said, "Nope. You have to take it to Terminal 6 and check it in there." (Did I mention I just got in from Australia and was exhausted and looking forward to getting home to Portland in a couple of hours?) So, off I go to Terminal 6. The furthest terminal away. I'm old and have to stop every couple of minutes to catch my breath. Finally, I reach Terminal 6, walk to the last gate, Alaska Airlines, approach the gal sitting behind the desk, and show her my ticket. She looks at me without expression and says, "That plane already took off." After my initial breakdown, I asked if there was another flight to Portland later that evening? She looked and said there was. I excitedly asked her if I could get on that flight and she said I would have to take my things and go back to Qantas and see if they would help me with that. "You want me to take my luggage and go ALL the way back to where I just came from?!" "Mm-hmm." she said. Still no expression, just a blank stare. The other three Alaska Airlines employees are carefully looking away. Needless to say, I didn't get home to see my family that night. Had to get a hotel room and book a flight home the next day. I'm tried to book using miles. Alaska Airlines then said my mileage account was compromised back in 2017 (never got a notice) and they can't book without unlocking my account. Which requires I send a copy of my ID in. I emailed 4 times and they are claiming they didn't receive the email and are asking me to FAX! Who has a fax machine nowadays? I'm still trying to work through this as the mileages is a significant savings. BTW....I've flown Alaska a few times the past year and even started using their credit card in the last year since Delta reduced the benefits of their card. I'm going to write about the food; This time I was in first class and it is fantastic. The Chicken sandwich and the Pork have a great bun/thin/& cheese and hot making it great; Bloody Mary's and pop are great for my taste; Hot Chocolate chip cookie and chips from Idaho filling us up....can barely walk so I asked for a wheelchair to meet us in PDX which is a long walk due to construction and small plane location(Horizon)really saved me this time as opposed to when I came out to fly....(knee, foot, heart problems besides quite a few others) security is good, friendly(love when they pat me down, ha-ha since I have some fake joints so they give me the extra treatment....ha Very friendly, efficient at all ends of the airports(PDX/Boise/Santa Barbara/Burbank/Vegas/Seattle are the places I usually go when I can). Showed up 48 minutes before my flight. I have precheck and clear and there was no line so this is plenty of time. They refused to check my bag because of some arbitrary 50 minute window. There was plenty of time. Instead they rebooked me for a flight 6 hours later so now I land at midnight and miss a day of work. I know they are capable of checking my bag and I know they could help me if they really wanted to. Now I get to uber home, and back to the airport. And wait another 6 hours before I travel. Alaska Air survived but are in decline in customer experience. When booking I chose an upgrade, I believe $30, to have preferential preassigned seating forward. After paying for it, no seats were available to select in the next step of the online booking process. At the gate, both legs of the round trip, I was in the E boarding group. F is the last group to board. Leading up to the flight, Alaska solicited me for "Treat yourself to Premium Class Stretch your legs starting at $49 with a Premium Class upgrade. With extra legroom, early boarding and free drinks*, what's not to love? Robert, your trip has Premium Class available, upgrade to a roomier seat today!" Fortunately I was traveling light, a personal item - knapsack, and a carry-on under the size limit. Checked bags have a fee. Finally, Alaska is driving customers toward their app. Unfortunately there is a well known iPhone hacking technique involving unwanted device pairing. Device pairing between an Apple phone and an Apple laptop prevents the phone from pairing over Bluetooth with a hostile actor in the close quarters of airport security and gates. So pair your Apple phone with your laptop, even if the laptop is left home. Or if you have not done that, turn off Bluetooth in the airport - that means no wireless headphones. Alaska is driving check-in to the app. They are eliminating the check-in kiosks at PDX. They will have the option of the app, printing a barcode at home, or getting your boarding pass from the ticketing desk. In summary, I would not select extra cost add-ons from Alaska, and I would thoroughly study the security situation of your phone in airports and the privacy settings on any app. read more

Anyone seeing problems with getting upgrades for seats. Alaska is really having problems with their Hawaii flights on Hawaiian. They have yet to give the equal benefits to Alaska gold member that we had when we flew Alaska to Hawaii. You can only fly Hawaiian for reservations and you can't get same privileges with your Alaska status. Oh unless you pay for it. read more

I had a few vouchers from previous flights that I was able to use to secure myself a first class seat! Checking-in and dropping off my baggage was easy and quick. First class flyers get access to their Alaska Lounge, which I enjoyed perusing in waiting for my flight to Orange County. Kim, who was the concierge at the lounge, was delightful and offered amazing service. She was welcoming, checked on me often asking if I needed anything, and kept me updated on what snacks and drinks they offered depending on the time of day. For breakfast, I was able to order their pancakes with regular syrup (they offer sugar free syrup as well) and hard boiled eggs. I stayed long enough for them to take out their lunch options, which included various cheese, hummus, soup, and salad. I especially appreciated the extra precautions they took to sanitize seats during COVID times. If a patron has occupied a seat, they would leave a sign to indicate that the area needs sanitizing after the patron has left. Restroom was fully stocked with complimentary lotion, soup, and other feminine products. During these times, the lounge was quite empty, with maybe 3-4 patrons while I was there. I think the only slight negative I could think of was the mediocre snack box that was offered to me during my flight. For a first class flyer, I was expecting more. The snacks they offered at the lounge far exceeded the ones offered during the flight. Anyway, I can't speak to what it's like to ride a non-first class seat. The biggest positive was definitely the ability to have access to the Alaska Lounge. read more

This review is regarding my return flight back to Southern California. I was in OR for Thanksgiving and was coming back on a flight to OC/SNA. Or so I thought. On the way to the airport, my wife gets an email for Lyft vouchers from LAX. After not hearing back, she called and tried to find out why we got Lyft vouchers. After being on the phone for almost two hours, with multiple people (long drive to the airport), we were told our flight was diverted. No one from Alaska told us that our flight was being diverted until we were on the phone with customer "care" for two hours. We asked about whether the PDX airport would have a customer service center open and we were told by a manager that no one would be there to talk to us about our concerns. When we arrived to the airport, there was someone there yo explain the situation in customer service, and found out our flight was delayed as well. We were offered complimentary Lyft vouchers which never worked and $150 credit, which doesn't come close to the difference in what we would have paid for tickets from LAX to PDX if we would have purchased them a month ago when we bought these tickets. Instead of getting home at 10pm, we did not arrive home until 2am with two young kids who were absolutely pooped with all the travel. This was an epically bad experience and while I know things happen with weather and maintenance the lack of communication and compensation for the lesser quality flights are deal breakers. I have liked Alaska in the past, but customer service in the airline industry is falling apart. read more

Waited 40 minutes for a callback, only to have them hang up on me when I answered. I was finally told I could not access my account from a mobile device. Did it from my home pc. Same result.
