My wife, her mother, and I had the opportunity to take a direct roundtrip flight to/from Portland, OR from/to Los Angeles in May of 2026. It was the first time doing that for me, and it ended up being a good trip. Not proud of it, but have decided to chase status on Delta for the ability to fly Comfort whenever possible (those 3 extra inches of legroom makes a big difference, especially when the person in front reclines all the way), forsaking better deals on other airlines in some cases. Delta has made a lot of changes in the last couple of years, a big one being organizing its tickets into five main cabin classes: Main, Comfort, Premium Select, First, Delta One. Each one has a Classic or Extra sub-category, with the main difference being an Extra type ticket is fully refundable (whereas Classic will give a credit for future flight). The Main and Comfort class has a further sub-category: Basic. Basic (Main and Comfort) does not allow the selection of seats (often meaning one will sit in a middle seat, possibly away from your group), has a penalty for cancellation or change, and makes one ineligible for free upgrades. Furthermore, Main Basic also doesn't accrue loyalty rewards (miles nor MQDs), and most importantly for us, makes the ticketholder ineligible for Delta Sky Club access (even with an eligible card). I am Platinum this year, meaning that I can buy a Main Classic class for two people (including me) and then self upgrading to Comfort Classic for no additional cost. So when learning that Delta has 3 daily roundtrip flights (using one aircraft back and forth) between LAX and PDX, booked 2 separate reservations: one for two of us (including me) in Main Classic for $353. For the 3rd person, got a Main Basic for $273 ($80 per ticket difference). I figured I could sit in the back for a short flight, and was willing to take the risk of it being non-refundable. Because the flight in both directions were not full, the Main Basic seat ended up being a window (outbound) and an aisle (inbound), though one can't count on that. We flew back on a Saturday (least busy flying day of the week) so got upgraded to First Classic from Comfort Classic a couple days before the flight. Because the flight is under 2 hours, there was no meal service at all (including no premium snack cart, meaning not being able to use my AMEX snack benefit), though the First class flight attendant was very attentive, giving drinks (including alcoholic) as requested. Delta has a good video monitor system (though not Bluetooth enabled) at each seat, and changed to using YouTube music playlists, which I enjoyed on the short flight. The extra shoulder space is really useful, not having to worry so much about bumping into your seatmates space. Though I continue to be disappointed in the comfort of the seat itself...no lumbar support whatsoever. Delta is good (LAX and PDX airports at least) to have wheelchair assistance readily available, and we took full advantage for my mother-in-law. read more

It's been awhile since I have flown Delta! As I was heading from LAX to PDX direct flights have been eliminated on United thus I had to search for another airline. Delta offers direct flights: 2 hours. What a didn't realize when I decided to fly Delta that I would have a spirit experience: where you don't get offered drinks more than water. At least on Southwest you get a choice of drinks and fast. Service on delta didn't start till at least 40 minutes in. Service only in comfort and first. Given the prices delta charge, they should offer more than water. At least we got some small snacks to hold us over. read more

We flew nonstop SEA to DCA May 2-8th. We sat in Comfort+ each flight. I'm type 2 diabetic and even though I wasn't eating & only drinking water my sugar was 369. When our flight attendant Jean came past offering g cups of pre-poured water, I explained I needed a VERY large amount of water to naturally dilute my sugar level as my insulin wasn't making a dent. She came by 2 more times within an hour filling my 40oz water bottle straight from their very large water bottles. By the time we exited the aircraft, my sugar had finally dropped 100 points. I can't thank her enough for the immediate attention to this situation! read more

We had no issues flying Delta Air Lines between Portland International Airport (PDX) and Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL). All flights were on time or earlier and the plane rides themselves were smooth and comfortable. This is a standard I've come to expect from Delta. Outbound, I flew on a Boeing 737-900ER. "ER" stands for extended range. On a Thursday, the plane departed the gate at Hartsfield at 11:13 AM ET (2 minutes early) and arrived at the gate in Portland at 1:02 PM PT (13 minutes early). It took 4 hours 49 minutes, gate to gate (flight time plus taxi time at both airports). Inbound, we flew on an Airbus A321neo. "neo" stands for new engine option. On a Sunday, the plane departed the gate in Portland at 11:49 AM PT (on time) and arrived at the gate at Hartsfield at 7:37 PM ET (on time). It took 4 hours 48 minutes, gate to gate. Roundtrip, the flights cost a total of $906.95 for Delta "Main Cabin." Outbound, I sat in Row 14. Inbound, Row 18. The main advantages of booking Main Cabin are: (1) you get to select your seat, (2) no change fees, and (3) you receive an eCredit if you have to cancel your flight. I booked 70 days in advance. In Portland, we took advantage of Delta Sky Club, which is located nearest Gate D7. At PDX, there's only one Delta Sky Club. It was good. While I've lived in Portland for the last 14 years, I'm originally from Atlanta. So whenever I fly back to Georgia to visit my family, I ALWAYS fly Delta. Why, you might ask? Let me give you a few reasons... First and foremost, ATL Hartsfield-Jackson Airport was my home base for more business trips and vacations than I could possibly count, and given that it's also the Delta hub, I have more experience flying with Delta than any other airline... period. But it's not about me simply filling my comfort level quota; I genuinely enjoy flying with Delta. Now I'll admit, it was certainly a lot MORE enjoyable back in the days when I was able to take advantage of all the extra perks that come along with having Platinum Medallion status, which I maintained with all my frequent business travel. But even with those days in the past, it's still an enjoyable experience nonetheless. ;) Secondly, Delta offers multiple non-stop flights between Portland and Atlanta every day. And given that I have to make that cross country jaunt a minimum of 2x each year, that is an invaluable benefit. Especially when you factor in the 3 hour time change on a roughly 5 hour direct flight. If you naively decide to go with another airline who's itinerary includes one (or more) layovers, you can go ahead and write off two entire days of your trip spent on nothing but travel. Not to mention the insane jet lag you'll be recovering from after.Trust me, I learned this lesson the hard way, and I didn't need to be taught twice. So Delta for the win on this one. Thirdly... what else can I say? They're Delta! Sure, they experience the same ups and downs (pun definitely intended) as any other airline. But they're still here, each and every day, and they always will be. They continue to show up regardless of what new challenge or obstacle life decides to throw at all of us. And in a world filled with so much uncertainty, I'm not sure about you, but I would gladly welcome a dose of reliability in my life. In conclusion... It appears that "Delta really does love to fly, and it shows!"* *If you weren't yet living, or didn't grow up in the 80's or the 90's, that last comment probably made zero sense whatsoever. I wish I could give zero stars. Canceled my family's flight at midnight forcing us to find hotel rooms in Kauai at 1am. Absolutely no assistance from Delta staff. We were told to "save our receipts and submit them for reimbursement". We tried multiple hotels and finally found vacancies at the 5th one. Checking in there were 3 other families from our flight checking in at 2am. We rebooked our flights ourselves (no assistance from airport staff) and my son had to fly out at 6am. Rented a car since I didn't think we'd find an Uber at 4:30am. After I submitted receipts for reimbursement Delta denied the rental car, one of the two rooms and offered $195 for one $300 hotel room saying we went over the local reimbursement rate. What local reimbursement rate? And where in Kauai can you get a room with one hour notice for $195? After several back and forth emails I received a final email saying they would no longer respond to my emails and we should agree to disagree. What could improve? Tell EVERYONE on the plane when the flight is canceled that when we book rooms we have a cap of $195. Maybe they don't because they don't want a riot? read more

Terrible experience on departure and return flights, thankfully everything in between - my trip to Italy - was fantastic. But man, what an utterly frustrating experience with no empathy from the staff. After confirming all flights were on time and checking in before I left for the airport, I arrived at PDX to find the first leg of my flight from PDX to Salt Lake City cancelled. From 7am until 1:30 pm I stood at the counter with a customer service rep on the phone and a rep in person trying various ways to get me to Naples. Their proposal, go home and come back tomorrow. What? No! There was a hotel room in Naples that cost $500 waiting for me plus I had already paid for an Uber, was up at 3am for this flight so NO! Repeat, NO! After getting supervisor and supervisor's supervisor and then the overall manager involved, they were able to book me on Iceland Air (fabulous service!) to Iceland then Frankfurt then Naples arriving 6pm rather than the original 11:30am, so I booked it. Issue - aside from what I already described - I paid for an upgrade to comfort seats and all three of these flights were economy. While they promised I would be reimbursed the difference, a month later and no refund. Multiple calls and hours of online chats and phone calls have resulted in zero resolution. In fact, the departure trip no longer shows up in my Delta records. Delta can't control flight cancellations, but they can control their billing and it's wrong to charge a passenger for a comfort upgrade if they flew economy.actually, I think its illegal. Heck, they didn't even give me a free drink coupon or any miles for all the aggravation. On the return flight I did get a comfort seat but the entertainmeant screen didn't work. So 12 hours with zero entertainment. They offered to move me to economy to sit next to a family with a baby that was screaming the entire flight, the poor toddler. That was not an option for me. And again, there would be zero refund for switching to a lower cost seat. When I asked the flight attendants to have them reboot my system, they forgot over and over again. They finally rebooted and it went down again. After that, they basically avoided me and would literally come down the aisles with the cart and never offer me a drink. Seriously, truth. My experience with Delta was sub par and what made it worse was the lack of any empathy or desire to make it right from the gate crew to the flight attendants to the manager who told me, "our job is to get you to your destination, period." Meaning, all else is irrelevant. Never again. Delta has clearly given up on customer service as one of their key tenants and they aren't getting anymore of my hard earned money. I am writing in response to a recent interview that was printed on the Truthout website today. It was a recounting of an unacceptable harassment of a passenger for wearing a shirt that said "Jews Say Cease Fire Now". In my opinion this passenger, Louie Siegel, was abused and denied common civility because of the fear of the cabin personnel that someone would be offended by the idea that a cease fire should occur in a hideous war that has killed tens of thousands of innocent men women and especially children. As an occasional flier on Delta, I assure you this incident will affect my future choice of airlines and I intend to spread word of this incident to my associates and friends. Dealing with a schedule change by Delta, impacting multiple flights, has been a nightmare. They have given wrong information, denied responsibility, and were completely not helpful. This is the Reservation phone support line. I am a Skymiles member, and have been treated very poorly. They do not know how to work with other carriers that are their "Partners." If you're planning on flying out of PDX early morning DO NOT book with Delta. My flight left at 6:30am so I show up at 4:30 thinking it should be a breeze. WRONG! While most airlines have moved to having kiosks which print your bag tag Delta still does it the old fashion way. They do have kiosks but you can only check-in and print your ticket. So at 4:30am there's at least 200 people standing in the "bag drop off" line. It literally took an hour to get through that line then add in a massive TSA line and I made it to my gate just as the flight started boarding. Fast forward a week later I have to take the same flight. Not wanting to deal with the nightmare like the week before I show up at 3:30am! If I do that I'll get the leg up on the massive line. WRONG! So walk up to the Delta area and there's a line...not a massive one but there was about 50 people standing there. Look at the Delta counter.....empty. American Airlines has 5 people behind their counters. Southwest had like 3. Delta had NOBODY. So an airport worker walks by and we are like what's up with Delta? "Oh, Delta doesn't open till 4". So by the time Delta does open there's only two people working and the Delta line had gone Disneyland status. Just throw it out there it looks like Delta has 6 flights before 6:30am with the first flight at 5:25am. That's a lot of people in a short amount of time meanwhile the other airlines which have embraced common sense had no line. read more

Planes were all on time and I had as much room as the other airlines I had flown recently (one based in Seattle, the other in Chicago). My 14-year-old granddaughter and I missed our flight DL2323 at 10:45 in SLC on July 2, 2023 through no fault of our own: Our DL221 was delayed to 11:45 am instead of 10:10 am.. Baggage at the SLC carousel arrived extremely slowly, so much so that it was clear there was only 1 person loading it. My suitcase arrived with a yellow "Sky Priority" sticker attached, but my granddaughter's bag arrived extremely late with no Priority sticker. We hurried to Immigration and Customs. When we arrived at our gate, the plane had left. Another group of six people had also missed it. My son, watching our progress online, later told us the flight left 3 minutes early. The gate agent gave us boarding passes for DL 2323, leaving at 10:45 pm, with a wait time of 8 hours.. The agent at the Help Desk was no help. He said the lounge was accessible only to AMEX card holders, that Alaska denied his request to take us on an earlier flight, and he did not offer us meal vouchers. I spent over $60 on meals and snacks. When we were on the flight, the food was disgusting, and our seats on the 10-hour flight were worn out and very uncomfortable. We had an excellent flying experience on our recent trip to the east coast. It was a pleasant surprise from air travel of recent memory. The flights going and returning home were both on time, with the plane waiting at the gate when we arrived. It was nice to get on a clean plane with a welcoming crew. The flight attendants were warm and attentive. They welcomed us on board and both of my children received pins with wings. My children were very excited and happy to wear the pins! During the flight itself, the on-board entertainment had a plethora of choices. It was extremely enjoyable to be able to scroll through and find multiple entertainment options to pass the time. It was also really nice having the electrical outlets accessible so I could plug in my computer. The next amazing bonus was all the food that the flight attendants came through the aisle with for us to eat. A menu and food choices was not something I had experienced on a plane in quite a while. The drinks were plentiful as well. The flight attendants were kind and courteous. The bathrooms were clean. The positive experience makes me want to choose Delta every time I fly! read more

I can't give any airline experience a good review. They're like cell phone companies. They're out to make as much money and deliver as little product as humanly possible. We are 100% at their mercy. We have to get from point A to point B, and they know that. So they trim their staff back significantly. They takes rows of seats out of planes... It's not the people. Been off the plane now for over an hour, no information. Every passenger got in line at the gate to find out if anything was going to happen. No general announcements. "Delta, Delta, Delta, can (you) helpa, helpa, helpa?" My international travels on Delta have me heading east to Amsterdam, rather than west to Tokyo these days. And while the flight time is a bit shorter, the experience is still a bit of a downer. In December, I flew to Munich and back from Paris on United via JFK. It was lovely. Relatively new planes and fantastic entertainment options. In all fairness, on one leg of the trip I had to pay $8 for Direct TV access at my seat, but that was money well spent. The rest of the legs, I had movies and TV shows by the dozens and all of a sudden I was at my destination. By comparison on Delta, I was on a painfully dated plane and had the pleasure of shared TV screens on the bulkhead and every eighth row with pre-programmed movies. Sigh. I swear it felt like the flight took twice as long. The food and the attentiveness of the flight attendants was about equal. But, I'm telling you, the old planes are killing me. Ironically, if I was scheduled on the United flight during my trip last month it would have been a disaster because it was during the big snow storm that paralyzed East Coast airports for close to a week. So there are definitely benefits to the non-stop flight to Schiphol. Just plan on entertaining yourself until Delta gets with the program. read more

I just wanted to take a moment to say what wonderful service I received on a very long and crowded flight from Atlanta, GA back to Portland, Oregon last Saturday, October 30. (Flt DL833) I'm not sure how many people were on the plane, but the rows were 7 seats wide with only 3 flight attendants working in coach and they did an AMAZING job! In addition to helping throngs of passengers get situated before take-off, answering countless questions, and serving drinks & snacks once we were in the air, they were dealing with several video screens that would not work. The screen at my own seat quit working twice, and no matter how busy the flight attendants were, one would stop and take care of the problem immediately, and always with a smile. I'm sure they were under pressure with so many passengers, but they never let it show. They were very professional, and very attentive to the needs of the passengers. From boarding to the very smooth landing, I can honestly say it was a great experience flying with Delta. Looking forward to my next flight! read more

Definitely flying southwest from now on. Delta tried to tell me it's a Port of Portland policy to not give passes unless the person has a flight. But southwest lets me drop my son off all the time at the gate. Why delta didn't let me this time?? Bogus. And the constant time changes are ridiculous. The Delta reps and ground crew here are good hardworking folks! I have flown Delta in and out of here too many times to recount...almost always on time, polite and informative. The waiting area is ok, nothing spectacular but my ass is generally cozy! Seems like the equipment is generally well kept up and hassle free. read more

I use to dislike Delta but since the pandemic they have really stepped up to protect both their crew and passengers. I have flown Delta a few times over the last two months and the planes are sparkling clean. Also, they are practicing social distancing by not booking middle seats. The staff is super professional and I really appreciate the service they are providing in these troubled times. I will continue to make Delta my first choice in the future because of how well they have handled this crisis. They really have done an outstanding job. Thank you! read more
