Delta Air Lines Flight DL 675 on September 12, 2024. Atlanta (ATL) to Portland (PDX). View from Seat 14B on a Boeing B737-900ER. No ESPN!

We had no issues flying Delta Air Lines between Portland International Airport (PDX) and Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL). All flights were on time or earlier and the plane rides themselves were smooth and comfortable. This is a standard I've come to expect from Delta. Outbound, I flew on a Boeing 737-900ER. "ER" stands for extended range. On a Thursday, the plane departed the gate at Hartsfield at 11:13 AM ET (2 minutes early) and arrived at the gate in Portland at 1:02 PM PT (13 minutes early). It took 4 hours 49 minutes, gate to gate (flight time plus taxi time at both airports). Inbound, we flew on an Airbus A321neo. "neo" stands for new engine option. On a Sunday, the plane departed the gate in Portland at 11:49 AM PT (on time) and arrived at the gate at Hartsfield at 7:37 PM ET (on time). It took 4 hours 48 minutes, gate to gate. Roundtrip, the flights cost a total of $906.95 for Delta "Main Cabin." Outbound, I sat in Row 14. Inbound, Row 18. The main advantages of booking Main Cabin are: (1) you get to select your seat, (2) no change fees, and (3) you receive an eCredit if you have to cancel your flight. I booked 70 days in advance. In Portland, we took advantage of Delta Sky Club, which is located nearest Gate D7. At PDX, there's only one Delta Sky Club. It was good. You can read my review of it here: https://www.yelp.com/biz/delta-sky-club-portland Onboard, the food, drink, seatback screen and entertainment, "free" Wi-Fi, and customer service were all good. Again, this is a standard I've come to expect from Delta. Currently, I think Delta is the best among the big three US airlines. United is second and American is third, by clear margins. I really enjoy the live TV and free Wi-Fi (sometimes spotty, but mostly useable) on Delta flights. Something I learned within the past year is you can now SMS-text while in the air. Previously, I could only send messages via Google Chat, Facebook Messenger, and WhatsApp. Now, you can text via SMS (and RCS) after connecting to the in-flight Wi-Fi.

I fly quite a bit and these days, since moving to the Atlanta area 2 years ago, I fly with delta. In general flying delta has been a good experience. Mostly on time, flights to everywhere, easy ap to use, nice airplanes, safe flights and so on. Have there been problems... sure there have been a few, but I'd say mostly... everything has been good. In the past I have flown on many other airlines... and I'd say Delta has them all beat for sure.

    Rejection of reimbursement
    Melanie H.

Honor Vouchers!!!! Don't give out Hotel Vouchers by your attendants and then later charge them for the room. Then reject my request for reimbursement. I have tried customer service several times. Only to be told to resubmit reimbursement request. I Have , over and over and rejection after rejection. Was it tactic to make your customers feel a false security when you cancel flights. Prevents having an angry client? Well I had told them oh well I'll nap at airport. " No , no I'm emailing you an electronic voucher for a free hotel".

I am a big fan of Delta Airlines. In Portland, Delta shares Concourse D with Air Canada, Condor Frontier, Hawaiian, Icelandair, Spirit, Virgin America, and Volaris. The largest carrier at PDX is Alaska Air, but Delta does have several flights in/out of PDX....for example, Atlanta, Salt Lake City, Seattle, Detroit, Minneapolis, Los Angeles, New York, even Amsterdam. The gates are very neatly designed.

And people wonder why I always choose a window seat... sunset anyone?

While I've lived in Portland for the last 14 years, I'm originally from Atlanta. So whenever I fly back to Georgia to visit my family, I ALWAYS fly Delta. Why, you might ask? Let me give you a few reasons... First and foremost, ATL Hartsfield-Jackson Airport was my home base for more business trips and vacations than I could possibly count, and given that it's also the Delta hub, I have more experience flying with Delta than any other airline... period. But it's not about me simply filling my comfort level quota; I genuinely enjoy flying with Delta. Now I'll admit, it was certainly a lot MORE enjoyable back in the days when I was able to take advantage of all the extra perks that come along with having Platinum Medallion status, which I maintained with all my frequent business travel. But even with those days in the past, it's still an enjoyable experience nonetheless. ;) Secondly, Delta offers multiple non-stop flights between Portland and Atlanta every day. And given that I have to make that cross country jaunt a minimum of 2x each year, that is an invaluable benefit. Especially when you factor in the 3 hour time change on a roughly 5 hour direct flight. If you naively decide to go with another airline who's itinerary includes one (or more) layovers, you can go ahead and write off two entire days of your trip spent on nothing but travel. Not to mention the insane jet lag you'll be recovering from after.Trust me, I learned this lesson the hard way, and I didn't need to be taught twice. So Delta for the win on this one. Thirdly... what else can I say? They're Delta! Sure, they experience the same ups and downs (pun definitely intended) as any other airline. But they're still here, each and every day, and they always will be. They continue to show up regardless of what new challenge or obstacle life decides to throw at all of us. And in a world filled with so much uncertainty, I'm not sure about you, but I would gladly welcome a dose of reliability in my life. In conclusion... It appears that "Delta really does love to fly, and it shows!"* *If you weren't yet living, or didn't grow up in the 80's or the 90's, that last comment probably made zero sense whatsoever. But I bet if you go ask Siri, Alexa or Google, you'll be able to figure it out. ;)

I have SO much negative to wright. Yet I ill just touch on the fringes. 1. It took 11 hours to fly from Las Vegas to Portland OR. 2 My app stopped working. 3. While working, I stayed on hold for 97 minutes to get information about my next ticket. No one answered. 4 i arrived 3 hours early m, just to make sure I had a ticket. My app didn't recognize me, the kiosk didn't recognize me, then I stood in line with NO baggage to check for 56 minutes. No "Thank you", no"I am sorry" NOTHING. What the heck?

My first flight from Portland Oregon to Utah was great we left on time and it was a smooth ride. Now my flight from Utah was like an hour late and my seat wouldn't recline and I was supposed to be in a seat with more room 17C, the only good thing about that flight was the cookies.

Delta's new marketing term for "Delayed" :-)

Excellent Delta experience today. The only issue was the 30 minute bag check line. Pleasant staff and timely departure.

The guy stops at me first, but then goes to the less looking tabled body person and takes them. After another 20-30 minutes, I ask the Alaska gate agent to call again. Meanwhile I see several people pushing empty wheelchairs. The gate agent refuses to call again, saying she did twice. I asked if I'm just supposed to wait hours and she shrugged her shoulders. I was left in a hard place. Not only is walking long distances painful for me - but adding weight by carrying my luggage makes it harder. After getting myself together, I start the walk. I went to Alaska customer service. On the way I see at least 3 people with wheelchairs sitting and talking. The lead that comes up was rude. She said "I'm sorry you made it all the way up here with no wheelchair." If I didn't mind being on a do not fly list, I would have spoken up for myself, but instead, I left. Shame on you PDX and Alaska!

Spirit screwed up not just my wife's flight from Portland to Salt Lake City (cancelled due to weather, they said...an excuse they frequently use, because it is un-challengeable), and tried to rebook her more than half a day later. We declined, and got her a one-way ticket on another airline that was flying out immediately. We kept the return portion of the trip, as we didn't want any more additional hassle at the time. Oh, woe to us! When it was time to return, my wife's first flight was delayed long enough that her connector in Vegas had already left for Portland. So what did Spirit do to rectify the situation? Nothing. Absolutely nothing. No hotel or food voucher, no support...nothing. They left her alone, with a 5-month old child, to wait it out in the airport for 20...TWENTY...hours, for the next available flight to Portland (which was not true, as a cursory scan of bookings showed one leaving in the early AM, but who am I to do their jobs for them, right?). 20 hours to figure out how to navigate sleep for herself and our son, plus finding baby formula and other absolute necessities. Hell, she had to scream at them to get our stroller and car seat from them, as well as finding her bag practically abandoned, as the airline tried to sort out what to do with the sudden influx of other passengers (and their luggage) that they had just stranded for an entire day, at best. In summary: Spirit Airlines failed to get my wife to her destination, and then abandoned her with an infant for 20 hours, making no effort to mitigate the circumstances they themselves brought into being with their negligence, indifference, incompetence, and gross mismanagement. This company is criminal, and should have their operating license revoked. I will be filing a report with the BBB, the FAA, and any other institution I can, to inflict whatever harm I can upon them. They deserve all of our collective scorn, and none, NONE, of our business, ever.

Also, Delta had removed some of their nonstop to Europe flights at the time including Amsterdam, and their alternatives were pretty bad, this was the best option. I was initially glad I discovered this airline. This was one of three legs I was traveling, 10.5 hours of fun on this leg alone lol. So prior to traveling, Condor switched my inbound flight. What they did was remove my flight all together and merge me into an existing flight that cost $40 less. I knew this because I had debated a long time if I wanted to pay $40 extra, or save money for an additional 2 hours to my existing 2 hour layover. I decided I would, and yet they refused to refund me for downgrading my flight when mine was removed from their itinerary! When I was on their website, a 50% off luggage coupon popped up. I screenshot it immediately before it went away. But there was no place to put a promo code for luggage online. So I called them. They said it can only be done in person. Guess what happened when I tried in person? They denied me saying it should have been done prior to arriving at the airport. I called Condor on the spot and they said it had to be in person, they heard this call but, said they could not. Yes they could. Instead of charging me $120 each way, charge me $60. It was so frustrating what they did to me! The food was not good, yet people all around me ate like this was the best meal ever! But apparently there are 2 more levels of food quality above the cheapest option, I didn't select those so I guess that's on me because I put saving over food quality. One of the flight attendants did something shady. I have the utmost respect and appreciation for flight staff, especially during the pandemic. But that doesn't make it OK to do what she did.... So as soon as I boarded, everyone went to seats that were not their own. This resulted in a dozen people all around me, with 3 seats to themselves. THREE! I on the other hand waited till everyone was seated to see what, if anything, was available. Everyone else that didn't have 3 seats, had 2 seats to themselves. Myself and the person next to me were the only 2 people who had NO extra seat. I asked one of the flight attendants if I may move to a particular open area in the back so I may lay down for this 10.5 hour flight. She said it was OK, it was the upper left back side of the cabin. As soon as I sat down, I got scolded and was made to go back to my seat by another FA who didn't care I was given permission, she said those seats were for them. There were 3 FA's in 2nd class, but she was protecting NINE seats in the back!? Nor do they all break at the same time. Halfway through the flight, I actually saw a passenger sprawled out in the back 3 middle seats that everyone knows is for the staffs personal belongings, which were there earlier. No one took issue with that, not sure how she managed that, but the 9 seats that normally aren't all for staff was somehow an issue. It was a long flight home for me my friends.... When I mentioned this to the airline, they just said I should have bought more seats. Yeah, because the 3 seat people all bought their extra seats....NOT! They even said, maybe they all bought that many seats. Yeah ummmm....No lol. I even spoke with 2 of them and they just boasted about their abilities to grab seats fast, these were not their assigned seats. The following year my parents used Condor for the exact same flight. My dad had paid an extra $120 each way for mom to be in the emergency exit. Well, coming back she didn't get it. They gave it to someone else and had assigned her ANOTHER tiny seat! They would not listen to my dad and later customer service also did not care, saying they only paid to select a seat, but not that particular seat. Not. True. The other seats were less expensive. They would never pay extra solely to choose a specific seat in 2nd class since they're all the same, if it was not an emergency seat with more leg room. Charging extra for choosing a seat in second class is such nickel and diming.

The flight attendants stood beside us after giving the guy next to us his ordered meal and 2 alcohol beverages, which does cost (nothing covered but water on an international flight) they stood there laughing and flirting with each other rather than tending to people so long, about 15+ minutes, that he finished everything he ordered before we even got water. Very inconsiderate and rude flight attendants! Also, forget storing bags under the seats as suggested because unless it's a small purse it's not fitting! The poor family in front of us with kids had to use the call button because they completely ignored that family and they waited 20+ minutes before anyone came. The toilets stopped flushing and there was no water in the bathrooms to wash your hands. I got home throwing up that first meal and felt terrible all night. Don't even get me started on how disorganized they are for boarding! It causes high stress for some as one woman snapped at us to get behind her in line when she was infact in the wrong line and when she was told that we were first class and she needed to move to the economy line she gave us a look of death. However, when everyone working at the gate has no clue what's going on and tells you that much, it's a little concerning. As was the case yesterday with multiple delays as well as canceled flights, the attendant in uniform I spoke with told me straight up, "I don't know what's happening over here, ask him." (pointing to a man in a safety vest running interference with other customers). Ooookay. So that's how it's gonna be. Buckle up, Buttercup. It's going to be a bumpy ride! Even more concerning was the travelers whose flight was canceled not once, not twice, but three times over the span of 36 hours at PDX. They were telling their story to anyone who'd listen while we waited for our 2+ hour delay into Vancouver. At that point, they should've just rented a car and driven to Canada... it would've taken less time. Luckily I'm flying back to the States direct on United. No long layovers on the way home.

First air canada flight I ever took- window was literally coming out of the cabin wall (see picture…read morebelow) and I had to push it back in each time we hit any bumps. Then Air canada lost my luggage- I returned to the airport to pick it up and NO ONE WAS THERE though they said they would be. Phone line also wasn't working due to high call volume. General costumer service at the airport said I would have to wait another two hours till staff returned to speak with someone. Will not be flying with Air Canada again.
