I live very close by Alatte and walk past here on my way to work in the mornings. I walk by Starbucks too, but prefer the coffee from here any day of the week (even though they aren't open weekends). The staff are very nice to talk to and always happy to see you. I like the offerings available, sometimes I feel like a tea or maybe something sweeter like a shake (still with espresso) and by husband LOVES the chai You can taste the quality of the coffee itself since they roast in house. It's just better than getting a burnt cup of Starbucks and the ever changing specialty drinks are my favorite, from the pumpkin to the speculoos cookie, everything here is made well and I will keep returning to feed my caffeine habit read more

This place is so cute! The employees were super helpful and friendly, and the whole vibe is just amazing. Not to mention the coffee! Great prices, and compared to other cafes, this coffee has such a better overall taste and flavor, and doesn't have all that added sugar. The pumpkin spice latte was delicious. I love how elements like the production of the coffee is also seen to the customers. The coffee beans being transferred from the bags to the containers in the back of the cafe is super cool and makes me feel like I know exactly what I'm getting! Tried this coffee shop today for the first time and fell in love with its eclectic and quaint vibe. I got a mocha latte and it was delicious as well as a bacon, egg and cheese on a plain bagel and was not disappointed. WORST HOURS!!! How am I ever supposed to visit if you're never open! Heard great things but miserable hours so no one is ever there

The only locally owned and run coffee shop in downtown Norfolk. Neil and Melissa, the owners/baristas, are gracious wonderful people. The coffee is roasted just over the line in NC, I believe. The comfortable buzz of people that frequent the place include downtowners, TCC students, downtown workers, and the occasional mobile worker. Free Wi-fi with no password makes the place a great place to have a cup of joe and settle in at a table or on a couch to get some work done. It is often my office away from the office. Great coffee, great management, and a friendly clientele make this my favorite downtown coffee shop. read more

I work upstairs and Neil & Melissa greet me with a warm welcome every time I come in. I usually order a white chocolate mocha or an english toffee latte.. both are very good choices. Sometimes when I don't have time to grab breakfast, I'll have an egg/cheese/bacon sammich from the cafe. And I think this shop's coffee/teas are better than Starbucks! Located on the bustling thoroughfare known as Granby Street, A Latte Cafe is an impressive place to not only grab a cup of coffee but to also get a scoop of ice cream, grab some breakfast or even lunch. Parking is going to be tight as this site is located in Norfolk's urban core. Today, I brought the swerve wagon and found an open spot in front of the store. However, the parking meters are expensive and the meter maids are ruthless! My preferred mode of arrival is by riding the Tide after parking at a park and ride lot for free. The Monticello Station is where you want to get get off. The decor in A Latte is very, very interesting. Dare I say eclectic. There's a whole lot going on and as many times as I've been in here I always find something new that I missed the last time. It's pretty much like walking into your uncle's old garage meets exploring your childhood home's attic plus a local art exhibit wrapped around a barista bar all rolled into one. Yeah, I confused myself just writing that one. There's no theme, it's like...put a piano here, paint this wall blue, lean some wood pallets against this wall, add a fish tank there, a grandfather clock over there, a church pew (yes, a church pew!) right here, and -- viola -- done! And as helter skelter as that might sound believe it or not it actually works! Starbucks is sanitized; A Latte is sporadic and surprising which gives it a lot of character! Oh, and its HUGE! It's narrow but goes waaaay back like nearly a quarter block! I typically come here after my class lets out next door at TCC to sip on the frou frou coffee and read some magazines while I decompress. They have these couches that are amazingly comfortable! It never fails but every time I plop down in one I instantly drift off to sleep! Not a good look! Lol! But they're in the front when you first walk in, take a seat yourself and tell me if I'm wrong! They also have wifi available so you can literally lounge in there ALL day! I can't really review their food as I haven't tried anything to eat yet. I've only sampled the pumpkin pie and the maple white mocha lattes. Scha-WEET!!! Yessirrrreee! These things are delicious, dare I say better tasting than *cough cough* Starbucks. Yeah...it's THAT serious! A Latte is a very nice fixture on the bustling Granby street corridor. It's good to see the little guy doing their thing without the corporate monoliths edging them out. Their proximity to TCC has to benefit as well. But even if you aren't a college student this is a worthwhile business to visit. read more

My daughter and I LOVE this cafe! I'll start with the important part and warn that their coffee is kinda weak. Weak in energizing caffeine, not flavor. Anytime I get coffee here I always need a recharge a few hours later, which sucks to the average person, but I welcome any excuse to drink more coffee :D. It tastes good though, and the atmosphere is awesome! Also, the baked goods they carry... hot damn. I'm from out of town and aLatte Cafe is a perfect spot to do work. The charming spot is a community watering hole with it's free wifi, good food and great coffee. Quite possibly the only place to get fresh fruit in Norfolk, VA, the cafe also offers a house salad for less than $4. Can't beat it. These guys treat their regulars well and are wonderfully involved in their community. There's a great selection of drinks, and they're happy to figure out how to make something new if you don't see what you want on the menu. The pumperjack sandwich with avocado is fantastic, as are their milkshakes. They're open Monday-Friday until 5:30, so you'll have to schedule your loitering accordingly. Morning coffee rushes and lunchtime get busy, so plan well if you're in a hurry. Make sure to get a loyalty card if you come back regularly. read more

I worked in downtown Norfolk when aLatte first opened and I remember counting the days and being desperate for it to open. I wanted a real live hip coffee shop that WASN'T a Starbucks where I could lounge around and write my great American novel (still waiting on that part). I got it and a lot more. The husband and wife team that own it--Melissa and Neil--are so cool and laid back. It's spacious and cozy at the same time with changing art on the walls and yummy paint colors and a cool street lamp in the middle of the floor. The coffee's great. They buy from a local roaster--based in my home town of Gloucester, I do believe. They have bagels and ice cream and a few basic but tasty sandwiches. No grill stuff. A visit, with my daughter, to one of my BRAND NEW favorites this morning. I had an "everything" bagel with cream cheese, avocado & bacon with a pumpkin chai lattè. The nutty, chewiness of the bagel with the richness of the cheese and the buttery, goodness of the avocado was perfectly accented by the smokey, crunch of the bacon. The warm, silky, subtle sweetness of the pumpkin chai latte made me smile involuntarily. Not that anything else is needed but there is also free Wi-Fi, as well as wonderful art work for sale. I was new to TCC and I wanted to find somewhere new to eat, so I went to this cafe with my sister and it was interesting there. The atmosphere is relaxing, a great place for me to inspire for my future in my art-inspired café. I want to be an artist/business person, the food here is creative, yet affordable. Adding sparkles to an iced mocha latte and adding eggo waffles as sandwich bread is a good way for a brunch. The ice cream is well known to get a good price. Of course I love some basic Starbucks from time to time, but this place tops them by far. aLatté Cafe is a nice little coffee shop with a very comfortable setting. There is plenty of tables and chairs, as well as decorations, that really sets this place off and makes it unique. Their coffee is WONDERFUL, nothing is too bitter or too sweet. They also serve various little "coffee shop foods," that I found to be delicious. (I recommend trying their bagels, they have many choices) The staff is very friendly. When I go in I usually get what I need and then sit on one of the couches on my laptop(they have wifi here). All together the place has a real "home" feel to it and it's always a pleasant experience every time I go. I definitely recommend stopping in and giving them a try:) read more

The atmosphere is cool, I like their unique interior but the drink is, honestly, quite disappointing.. I paid five dollars for a special flavored medium latte... now I don't think I can finish my coffee up due to the strong artificial scent which gives me light headache... What is not to love about aLatte Cafe? They roast their own beans. And then they use them to craft awesome drinks. The owners are so very sweet. There is a huge "local feeling" here. This may stem from the obvious support of other local businesses by the owners. They are involved and invested in the community in which they reside. The artsy feel of this cafe is supported by local artists that display (and sometimes sell) their creations on the walls of the establishment. The food: aLatte is a great little sandwich spot. It remains affordable, even since a recent menu expansion. The coffee is the real star though. And they even sell it by the pound so you can bring some home! My only complaint is that I don't generally get to spend as much time drinking their coffee while lounging on their comfy sofa. read more

Locally owned, the coffee is roasted in-house which gives it a fresh and delicious flavor. They also serve breakfast items and sandwiches (you can't go wrong with my favorite, the Turkey Club). Great place to stop on our way through downtown. Unfortunately, we rarely have a chance to hang out longer than it takes to get our coffee, but it is vary comfortable and welcoming. I always get a Cafe AuLaite, and my wife's will vary, although the last couple times she has ordered the "Nico" and loves it. Comfortable seating, interesting art, nice folks behind the counter making some great coffee. Can't go wrong with that. read more
