Larry is a competent technician with fast availability and fair pricing. My fridge was no longer getting cold, and he responded to my request within minutes. Over the phone, he patiently walked me through the most likely issue (which he was upfront about it being an expensive repair, why it was so, and that it would be better to purchase a new fridge if it was indeed what the issue was), and was even willing to troubleshoot it with me without a visit. However, it was nearing the end of my workday, and I was more comfortable if he came to see it in-person just to double-check, so I still opted to ask him to come and see for himself. He said he could come the next morning and made sure to clearly relay to me the pricing and what to expect from the visit before getting off the phone. The next morning, I greet him and he takes a look at my fridge. I was curious as to what was broken, so he patiently described to me every check he was doing as he was doing them. He helped me better understand and corrected some of the preconceived notions I had. We found that the issue was indeed what he had described to me over the phone, and again suggested that it would make more sense to purchase a new fridge. I agreed. Throughout the process, Larry was very transparent about expectations and pricing. I asked Larry to give me an estimate for my 8-year-old refrigerator which was not cooling, based on the yelp's reviews and rating which were pretty high. My experience was not good at all. Summary for my 1-star rating. Details follow if interested: - $95 for service call with a quick flashlight check inside freezer to diagnose "refrigerator" cooling problem. It was 5 minutes for this service. - No diagnostics for any parts, like strange noise or dust collection because the unit was not checked. - wrong diagnosis and a patch solution which mislead me based on the flashlight check. Details: I texted Larry for the estimate and he came. It was my mistake not asking if there was any charge to come by and what was involved with the service.  He showed up with a toolbox to check my refrigerator problem. I explained to him that my refrigerator had a problem in the past with the freezer door not closing completely sometimes and ice built up in the front. It stopped happening now. He checked the back of the inside freezer with a flashlight and then told me that freezer's problem is causing the ice in the coil (or something) and cold air cannot cool down the refrigerator. He did not move the refrigerator to check the back, or test anything. It was one look with the flashlight to give me his diagnosis. He said my refrigerator model was problematic and newer products don't last long any more. So I should be buying a new refrigerator soon. Any repair would cost a lot and not worth it. I agreed as understood the industry trend. For the immediate fix, he said to unplug the unit, leave all the doors open to let the ice melt, place the towels around it to catch moisture, wait for at least 24 hours, and start up the refrigerator.  He assured me it will work again once ice is gone. I asked if the dirt or dust in the unit could cause a problem, but he said no.   He did not bother to open the back to see what else could cause the problem or clean the back.  Being a naive ignorant senior, I listened to him to follow his instructions. His service was about 10 minutes including the talk about recommended brands, and another 20 minutes was about his family. Then he filled out the invoice with $95 charge. I asked about senior discount, but was told the senior discount doesn't apply to a service call charge. I didn't argue or complain about the charge because I thought he diagnosed the problem (with flashlight) and believed his remedy would work.   After he left, I unplugged the refrigerator,  placed the towels around the unit, assuming this would fix the problem until I get the new one which I would order soon.  Meanwhile, I ordered the refrigerator which fits in my space on sale even though the unit is supposed to work again. I thought the current refrigerator would be doing the job until the new one arrives.. Over 24 hours later, with a big hope and sureness,  I plugged in the refrigerator and waited. There was no moisture on those towels during last 24 hours. Freezer portion started cooling down but the refrigerator section was at the room temperature.  The manual said to wait 24 hours for the refrigerator and freezer to reach ideal temperature. So I waited another 24 hours to check if it works. Freezer works, but not refrigerator, same as before. Now, I only have a small refrigerator till I get the new one. What a nightmare! Larry's diagnosis (If you call the flashlight check is diagnostics) was wrong. If he spent more time to do the job, he would have heard a crackling noise from the unit. Or he could at least check the back and inside.  He didn't do anything and charged me $95. I had to wait for 24 hours (plus 24 hours) to find out his diagnosis was wrong. At least I should have gotten the correct diagnosis for the money I paid.  But no! read more

We had an issue with our oven not holding its temperature & knew the issue was likely one of three things. We were hoping to get the repair done before this Thanksgiving, which was a difficult request but I gave it a shot anyway. On Monday I used the yelp app to send out my request for repair to several businesses and Larry at ALB Appliance Repair was one who responded immediately. We all know that feeling of uncertainty when you have to use an app to find a service and it feels like you have no way of knowing what you're going to get, right? Larry responded to the request with enough info and proper correspondence etiquette that made me feel comfortable reaching out to him. His message asked me to give him a call to further discuss the repair, so I did. Once I mentioned the three issues we felt the oven likely had, he agreed it sounded similar to what he had in mind and Larry fit me into his schedule right away! He was QUITE knowledgeable and this is very valuable in these days of hacks that take your money and do nothing. My only issue is that he is VERY expensive and you don't realize that until the job is finished and you see what it took to do the job. Thanks for nothing he came out and open the lid and basically said I had a rust problem, without checking on the side or inside to see if anything was stuck . So what I did I looked on YouTube and found how take couple screws out and lift the top off and what do you know the problem fixed , a piece of clothing was stuck on side of washer and that was the problem. Thanks for taking my 75 or 85 payed you todo absolutely nothing !!!!! Larry the owner of the business provided an a quote of $150 for the "removal and installation" of microwave. At no time did Larry represent that he needed to understand the nature of the installation before the microwave could be installed.
