While Aurelio's pizza might not technically be considered "tavern crust", it is absolutely one of the best examples of a thin pizza I've had. Over the years, Aurelio's have expanded to many locations in several states and today we found ourselves in La Porte, IN to once again sample pizza excellence. Our large mushroom half sausage came in about 15 minutes after ordering and looked perfect. I was so excited to begin eating I forgot to take a picture so you'll have to trust me that it looked as good as it tasted. We always order a large even though we can only eat about half in one sitting. This pizza reheats so well that we enjoy the rest later or the next day. Hard to describe and even more difficult to grasp if you're not from the Chicago area but real Chicago pizzas have what I call a "purity of Ingredients" where everything goes together so well. Here, the sauce is subtle but dominant. Over the years I've probably been to maybe 10-12 Aurelio's locations and the consistency is unbelievable. Service was great and the pizza was better! Which is probably why it was black and burnt. This pizza crust is not the same as a brick oven pizza and should not be black. It makes it too hard. Our pizza was also short on toppings. I know that the Uno Classic was made by putting the raw sausage on top of the crust. It covered the whole pizza bottom and was a large part of the amazing flavor. Our pizza was supposed to have sausage, pepperoni and onion. I only had a few pieces of pepperoni. I couldn't find sausage or onions. The sausage is good but it was lacking the original flavor from the quality sausage they used to use. I was hoping that Uno would be one of the only pizza places who still put quality over profit but sadly that is not the case.

Our waitress was asked for silverware and never brought any even though she came to table next to us for orders. We Just got the silverware and a new ketchup bottle ourselves. We stopped asking for anything so we were not disappointed. The ambiance was ok but menu is very small. Once we were near done our waitress did return but it felt like she wanted us to hurry up. We still tipped but she did not earn it. Not worth it!!! Very disappointed!!! If you do go don't expect much and you won't be disappointed.
