Got my radio unit replaced here under a recent warranty extension, so everything was covered for my 2019 Outback. I made an appointment online but the service manager Aaron called me to explain that he would cancel the appointment for now, start ordering the part (no obligation to replace/fix if the warranty somehow didn't go through), and have me schedule a new appointment when Subaru of America releases the warranty extension on my car. I liked that he was honest about the situation and didn't just go ahead and schedule me, likely resulting in me paying a lot upfront. When I arrived to my appointment, the process was fairly smooth. But I did find it a bit frustrating that I couldn't hear the service advisor Torii from behind the desk at all, especially with all the noise inside. The work on my car was quick and ready for pickup within a few hours. They texted me if I wanted to do some other replacements (cabin air filter replacement $79.95+plus tax, engine air filter replacement $59.95+tax, battery cleaning due to corrosion $49.95+tax) that they found during the multipoint inspection and included the price which was helpful, though I declined the services. Overall, I had no major issues for this service covered under warranty, but I can't speak on what the experience would be like for services that I'd have to pay for myself. read more

I am going to wait until i get more substantial servicing here before giving five stars, but we're off to a strong start! I was cutting it close with my limited warranty and Selena fielded multiple calls and discussed with her supervisor thoroughly to get me in on time before the weekend. I truly appreciated her effort to go beyond - it could have been simple enough and earned them more money to put me off until I was past warranty. She was detailed in taking all of my information - especially my availability for drop-off and pick-up so no one was losing time. Once I got there to drop off my car, I was initially frustrated that it wasn't as simple as handing over keys and getting on my way when checking in. Turns out, this was an overwhelming blessing for Allen (Alan?) to be paired with me. He went through each of my concerns and was totally upfront about the diagnostic costs. To save me the time, trouble, and cost, he troubleshot as much (actually, pretty much everything) with me from a/c to electricl panel display on the spot. As I said, I was initially frustrated that it wasn't an in and out process, but when it saves you $500+ on diagnostics, I'll more than take it. It was also so kind that he was mindful of my time and commute after I said I was on a crunch and ensured my car was ready by 6 pm (beating COB by 2 hours). The only reason I'm not yet giving 5 stars is because Allen/Alan was great at resolving my concerns so that all I had was an oil change and tire rotation. Avoid. They charged me X 2.9 times the price found at Subaru Online Parts. They would not even spend 3 minutes installing these rear bumper brackets, wanted to make an appointment for it. Thanks for a neighborhood body shop whose owner just crawled under the back, did it in less than 2 minutes and even refused to charge me. Nice of him. My service was $2,700 for the 60K service and brakes. When I tried to use the coupon, I was told there was a max. $250 discount. I was told other customers have been unhappy that this is decptive. When I called to check, even though Torii Cisneros knew this was deceptive, she did not say anything. For a measly $450. Albany Subaru instructs their service writers to be dishonest. I came away from Albany Subaru feeling so good that I want to mention it. Right away I could feel a culture of emphasis on my interests. That was good, but the head-spinning part was the treatment by the Service Director (Aaron Pearson) when the problem was explained to him. He listened to me and seemed to look at the problem from my side as well as his management's side. I've already posted on the sales page. So here we go for your service department.. my wife purchased a 2019 Subaru Impreza with low miles very clean. The transmission failed after driving it less than a month leaving her stranded on Highway 37 at night in a very dangerous precarious position We towed the car to the dealership on our dime. Once the vehicle was in the shop it should've been a very short time to diagnose and figure out what was going on. Essentially, it was acting as if it was in Neutral. According to them a clip had fallen off of a shaft, allowing a gear to fall off. Now here we are about a year later and the transmission is completely failed with less than 5000 miles on it since the repair. She brought the car to another dealership in Santa Cruz. According to that dealer, he said the transmission was completely trashed, and it looked like there hadn't been any work done inside the transmission at all. I suspect there had been some damage from that gear and the chain flopping around . They should've replaced this transmission instead of trying to patch it together and now we're stuck with a piece of shit. I would not bring my car in for repair or service or purchase a vehicle from this dealership . After looking at the problems with the CVT Subaru transmission, I would not purchase a Subaru either. We started coming here for services because we bought our Subaru at the Albany Subaru and purchased a service plan. I wish I had read these reviews before taking our vehicle there for service! After the service contract ran out, we kept coming here, but it had really gone downhill and much more expensive. First all, they have no shuttle service to Pinole. At first they washed the car, but then they stopped doing that and gave us car wash coupons down the street. Then that completely stopped. I hate how they have a "express appointment" versus a regular appointment. The last visit I needed to have them look at something with the driver side window, and they said they couldn't because I only had an "express appointment." Today I had made a regular oil change appointment because I had a tire pressure light came on recently. I always get an appointment first thing at 8am because I want to get out of there somewhat in a normal time frame. I told her the light went out and won't need them to diagnose the tire pressure notification. She said it could take up until 3pm to have my car looked at??????? I said why, I am here first thing, why would it take all day for a routine oil change? After 2 hours, I needed to leave and go to work, so I had to pay a Lyft to go home to work, and then back again. Even after 2 hours, they still had not started on my car. Currently it is after 1pm, and still no call. I told the woman, why would I even make an appointment? I could just drop it off at any time and come back? I am never coming back here again. I have already found a local garage to take care of my oil change needs. read more

Made an appointment online to get an Express appointment for my 2021 Forester for an oil change and 18k mi checkup. Service Advisor Alan was great, friendly, helpful, and clear. I had a coupon I printed from online and he showed me the 3 different choices & adjusted prices with the coupon for the Express oil change (1 was the basic oil change, inspection, and tire rotation, the other 2 had some add ons). I picked the middle package that included a quick tire alignment check. He said it would be 60-90 mins. After about 60 mins I got a text saying the cabin filter is dirty and should be replaced and was quoted a reasonable price (we've never changed it in the 2.5 years we've had the car) and he also said that the alignment checked failed so they recommend aligning the tires (also something we've never done to this car). He said it would take another 2 hours for all that so I said that was too long, then the manager said they could get it all done in 1 hour so we approved the extra work, and it was indeed all done in 1 extra hour. All in all they spent 2 hours on the car (instead of the original 90 min estimate for the Express appointment), but they also did extra work. The cost ended up about double what the initial estimate was, but again, they did extra work that I believe was indeed necessary. Definitely coming back here! read more

If I could give 0 stars I would. I have a 2008 Forester which I brought here for routine servicing 10 years ago, and I had a bad experience then. Slow, unprofessional service, and way over-priced. I don't remember all the details but I vowed never to return. Well, I forgot my vow and went back this week! This same car recently failed its smog test and I asked them to see if they could fix it. They charged $300 simply to diagnose the problem. Inexplicably, this took two days. And they then wanted $4000 to replace the catalytic converter. I have now taken it to another shop which says they will diagnose the problem for free, and if it does need a new catalytic converter, will cost $2000. Save your money and go elsewhere. I had similar poor experiences twice at this place separated by a decade! read more

Service manager is liar. Bought Subaru outback 2013 from this dealership with about 25K miles and full factory warranty. Almost immediately I noticed the car was losing oil and I was needing to put a liter of oil in it every 3500 miles. I contacted the service department who told me that was normal for the vehicle. Within a year I was putting in a liter of oil every 3k miles with same response, 2 years later I was putting in a liter of oil every 2700 miles and they repeatedly told me that was normal. Eventually I was putting in oil every 2k miles and they told me to bring it in to check for leaks. They couldn't identify leaks. I continued to drive it and was eventually putting in a liter of oil every 1500 miles. I contacted the dealership over in Marin to get another opinion and they immediately told me that the model had an engine recall on it for oil consumption. The Marin dealer did consumption test and found out it was clearly consuming oil, but they told me my warranty had just barely expired. I called Albany Subaru and spoke to there manager who said I should have brought it in for a consumption test sooner. He denied that I had ever asked them about consumption problems, but if I had they would have told me about the recall. I of course had records of the payment I made to them to check for oil loss. He responded by saying that I only had them checks for leaks and oil loss, and that I never asked them about consumption! He refused to work with me on the issue. read more

Walk away from this tiny Subaru service center. I was 30 minutes late for my appointment, the lady told me my appointment was canceled. My previous visit was bad too. They don't have tire while I requested new tires. I am so angry today, and booked the Oakland 27th street service center immediately. They replaced my tires and give routine service. They even called me a Uber home and they have rest area with drink and apple. Walk away from this Albany service center, the lady just murmured at her throat, even don't want to speak out..So disappointed. Will never go again. We have a Subaru that we bought from the dealership associated with this service center. We bought an extended warranty. On their website it says u can do an express service oil change. Just show up. We show up they say we can't in no way do that. You must leave your car ALL day! We drove from Oakland to Albany. Our day was centered around express AS OFFERED ON YOUR WEBSITE! If u don't actually offer express service than don't say you do. We took our previous Subaru here and not sure why we're going back. You literally have to leave your car all day if you have a scheduled appointment for them to rotate your tires. Why should that take all day? Today we were waiting at the counter and multiple people were behind the counter. It took a long time for anyone to look up and even acknowledge our existence. I bought my Crosstrek in December of 2018, and have always gotten my service here in Albany. Tracy is the manager of the service department and she never, ever fails to please! She is attentive, thorough, and never overpromises. Rather, she likes to over deliver! She has always been super transparent and made me aware about the possibility of not getting the car back right away. Each time I get service, however, I end up driving away much more quickly than I expected. The other people in the service room are always friendly and attentive. This is not a place where you stand around waiting for someone to see you, as if you suddenly developed the powers of invisibility! You'll be greeted very quickly upon your arrival. I feel like I was treated well and fairly. More than once they have given me ways to get the service I need with unnecessary time and money expenditures. That says a lot to me about trust. They are fair and communicate clearly. I even had them add in recall service on the spot without making me schedule the car an additional time. I still got the car back earlier than anticipated! That was above and beyond, and I appreciate it. My pre-paid maintenance has expired and though I do not live in the East Bay, I will continue bringing my car here for service into perpetuity. The AAA guy who came to the rescue tells us it's the original battery from 2014, it's corroded and should have been replaced at least two years ago. WTF Subaru Albany Service ??? I should have realized the negative reviews were accurate and stayed clear of this dealership. Took my 6 year old Subaru Forester in here for an oil change service while in town as I'm back and forth lately. When service was done, I was told that there was a stuck lug nut so they couldn't rotate my tires unless I paid for the replacement of that. I said no, I'll use WD-40 to soak it and loosen it myself. I was surprised since I just rotated off the winter tires and rims myself a bit ago and no issues with any of the lug nuts. I always use hand tools for removing and putting wheel nuts back on including a torque wrench for setting the proper torque per the service manual. I put on some WD-40 and the lug nut was able to be removed without much force even after waiting only a bit. What did I find? This dealer had cross-threaded the lug nut and looks like they used a power tool to put it on to do this much damage to the thread while it was cross-threaded. See the picture. Hand tools wouldn't do that if someone cross-threaded. It is suspicious that the brake pads were measured as though the tire was removed and they encountered this when putting the tire back on. I also can't explain how this lug nut went on just fine for me a couple months ago yet by hand and today it mysteriously is a complete damaged stud as the shop claims it was just frozen in place. Also not sure what else they lied about on the inspection. They checked the box next to washer fluid filled, but the washer fluid is still nearly empty like how I brought it in. So I can't really trust that any of the work was done properly. Now I have to do a lug bolt replacement on the front which is a pain so I'll need to pay an independent shop around $200 to do this. Lesson learned, never will bring my Subaru's here again. Glad I didn't start here with my older Subaru, who knows what damage they would have done. read more

Let me start off by saying I rarely take the time to review places but there have been a few times in recent times that the people working this location have been rude and dismissive over the phone. I bought a 2022 Subaru last year and got all the insurance perks they offered thinking it would be a good idea. Boy am I starting to regret this decision. Every time I call for services they want to give me a quote even though the services should be covered. I have to go back and forth with them so they can pull my records and see that it is in fact covered. For example, my tire needed to be replaced and I have the coverage that includes this service but yet again they were trying to charge me. If I'm not on top of things with them they overlook my already paid for services. Makes me wonder what their screen shows and why they aren't seeing that it IS in fact covered. Another time around I was asking about a dent that my car has and how it was covered thru the dent coverage and the person I spoke to over the phone gave me so much attitude... "We dont do that here". You don't? Then why do I have the coverage, please explain. They then proceeded to talk down to me about how insurance works and how THEIR location doesn't have that service. All I ask for from anyone is that they are kind and understanding. Aaron in the service department is a true class act unlike any other I have dealt with. I asked to be to a technician and they didn't even bat a eye, and connected me with Aaron. Stay as far away as possible with this place. The service rep in the front does not know what they are talking about. The supposedly service manager's favorite line is, "It's not covered, you pay for it and then you can call the company to work it out yourself with them." Long story short, purchased a brand new 2019 WRX from Albany Subaru a few weeks ago, and as soon as I bought it, I had to travel for work for an entire week. So the car was parked in my driveway the whole entire time. Returned from my trip, I've noticed I had a flat tire. So I thought I may have ran over a nail or something, so took it to a local tire shop to get it patched. The technician told me, you don't have a nail in the tire, but the tire is damaged on the inside with four budges. Took it to the Albany service center, first thing they said to me is, "Look at this white line, you hit a pothole and it's not covered." I told them, I didn't even drive the car the whole week! Based on this white line, you can determine that I hit a pothole? If I did hit a pothole that hard, my rim would've bent first or cracked, but there's not even a scratch on it. After a long debate, they agreed to replace as a customer satisfaction, but they would have to order the tire and it's going to take a few days and you can leave the rim here so we can swap out the tires and will be ready when you come pick it up.I said, Great. So I left my new rim with them so they can install it. So that same Friday, I called to check on the status of the tire. They said, your tires is here and will be ready for pickup. I told them I work and I can't get there till after 7pm and would like to get it done as I need to fly out for work the next day. The next morning I looked at my rims, it is all scratched on the lip both on the outside and the inside of my rims. As I needed to fly, I called and spoke with the service manager who wrote up the service ticket about my rim, she immediately responded with, "It's not our fault, and we won't be responsible for this." Crazy thing, she didn't asked me to take a down for them to take a look. I've been trying to work with her and the main manager, no luck. Lesson learned, stay away. I will be taking this to the BBB and also sending this to corporate. My new car have a little over 100 miles on it only, and it's been nothing but a nightmare with these people. #lying, #cheating, #dishonest @ Aaron, You guys are so full of it. Your technician and service rep saw and inspected my rims when they rooked it off my car and we were even debating the fact that if it was from hitting potholes, why were there no scratches and bents on my rim. My transmission was making a noise, and I needed it repaired. I have a natural suspicion about all mechanics that I don't have a rapport with, so I took it to my local mechanic that I know and trust first. He told me to go to the dealer because the issue is something that should be covered under the warranty. So I took it in to Albany Subaru. The whole time, I am waiting for the other shoe to drop, for them to call me telling me for some reason the work isn't covered under warranty and that I would need to pay lots of money to get it fixed. This never happened. John Ownby was straight up with me and responsive. They got me a new transmission, all under the warranty. John made sure I had a loaner car. I had such a good experience and everyone was incredibly polite and helpful. Alan checked my car in and even though I was a few minutes late...well ok, 20 minutes late, I thought it was going to be a problem. Alan was so reassuring and took care of me in such a nice way. The next person I worked with was Peggy who was so warm and helpful checking in my car. Oddly they didn't have my prepaid service information in the computer but Peggy took care of that.
