I recently had a car buying experience at Hanlees Hilltop Hyundai that started stressful and a feeling of being taken advantage of by misleading tactics and hidden contract costs. As a single parent and a caregiver for my elderly parents and my son with special needs, I was at their mercy to take care of me since I didn't have the time to take care of anything else. Well needless to say I was duped! I was so ready to walk away from the Hanlees group entirely. Everything changed when I got a call from Jim Totah, the Director of Sales Operations. Although the issue began at the Hyundai store, Jim is located at Hanlees Toyota, and the difference in management and atmosphere was night and day. From his very first message, I could hear a level of sincerity and kindness that reminded me of an uncle or a grandfather(someone who cared about me). He didn't treat me like a "sale" he treated me like a neighbor. He understood my hesitation to return to the Hyundai location and graciously met me at the Toyota dealership instead to ensure I felt safe and comfortable. Jim is a true hero who restored my faith by personally sitting down with me to go through every single line of my contract. He took the time to listen to what I needed. He said he wanted me "to be happy" with my purchase! He corrected several significant financial discrepancies that had been added to my initial agreement at the other location. Once we reached an agreement, he introduced me to Felipe Cortez, the Sales Manager at Toyota, to finalize the paperwork. Jim was right to have total confidence in him. Felipe is a complete stand up guy and, like Jim and myself, he too grew up in San Francisco. I felt 100% respected working with both of them. They ensured my 2026 Santa Fe included the full 10-year/100,000-mile warranty and the 3-year maintenance I was originally promised, all while bringing the total cost down to a fair and sustainable level for my family's budget. Jim Totah is a man of his word and a true advocate for the community, and I am so grateful he and the Toyota team gave my first car purchase a second chance at such a positive outcome! Despite having an appointment, we were told it would take over three hours for a simple oil change, which was frustrating and unexpected. When we asked questions about fluids and oil recommendations, Jenny was rude, dismissive, and unhelpful. This is the worst experience I've had getting my car serviced. Don't go here to get your car serviced unless you absolutely have to. - I had an appointment set for a week at 10am PT, I arrive at 9:55am and there's a line of cars waiting for service stretching out to the street. It takes 1 hour and 10 mins to get my car checked in for the service. - If you do have to come here for maintenance, do not let Deonte be the one that works with you on that. He doesn't care about your car or time. Before coming I was quoted a price of $654 for my 165,000 mile maintenance but when I sat down, Deonte tried to upsell me on services that were done previously, $550 for spark plugs which records indicate I had already done. I left the service center with a quote of $354, later I get a message to authorize additional work ballooning my total to $754 but Deonte wasn't done yet, when I called about the extra work he said he miscalculated the quote and it was $958. - I left my car there at 11:10am and didn't get it back until 5pm. When I went to pay, more waiting 20 minutes with only 3 people ahead of me to pay my excessive bill. They got me once, they never get me again and I hope they don't get you. The staff is unprofessional, the service is slow and they will try to get every penny out of you. How they stay in business is wild to me. I will happily drive 12 miles to the next Toyota dealership next time I need service. It will probably take less time and less money than coming here. read more

I am writing this review on behalf of my father, He is not in the best financial position right now and brought his vehicle in for a simple oil change this past Saturday. His service advisor was respectful, professional, and informative. The advisor explained which maintenance items might need attention in the future without making my father feel pressured. We appreciated that approach. Unfortunately, the experience changed when a manager became involved. My father explained that he could not afford any additional services at this time, but the manager continued to push and pressure him to authorize more work. It made him feel uncomfortable and as though his financial situation was being ignored. There is a big difference between informing a customer about recommended services and repeatedly trying to sell them after they have already said no. The service advisor handled the situation professionally, but the manager's behavior left such a negative impression that my father does not plan on returning. Customers, especially seniors on a limited budget, should be treated with respect and understanding, not made to feel pressured into spending money they have already explained they do not have. read more

I purchased a 2014 Toyota RAV4 XLE AWD from Hanlees Hilltop Toyota advertised in "great condition" with no issues noted except a missing spare key. Within 24 hours of purchase, I discovered multiple serious problems: The sunroof did not function at all. After attempting resets, it briefly began working, only through reversing controls (open button closed it, close button opened it), then failed completely again. A large water stain was also visible on the roof liner beneath the sunroof. The infotainment screen is partially non-functional. The bottom-right quadrant does not respond correctly to touch, making parts of the system unusable (like pairing my phone altogether). After troubleshooting, I was only able to connect Bluetooth through a workaround. The radio also began turning on unexpectedly. I continued to contact the dealership over several days with difficulty reaching anyone. Once I got ahold of someone, I was told "it's a used car," despite the ad claiming the vehicle had a sunroof and an infotainment screen. When pointing this out, they said "yes, the car DOES include those," implying that the functionality of those features doesn't matter. Are you kidding? After hours of back and forth, I was eventually offered a contract termination or diagnostic review, which they were clear would also lead to contract termination if the costs were too expensive. This was only after being interrupted constantly, being spoken to in a generally rude tone, and being hung up on multiple times. I returned the vehicle on 6/12/26 and signed paperwork confirming the return and refund amount of approximately $20,000. I was told the refund would be mailed via FedEx Wednesday the following week. As of 6/23/26, the check still has not arrived. After calling multiple times since Wednesday, I was assured through 2 separate calls that it had been processed and that tracking would be provided. They ignored all of my calls this week as well, so I resorted to calling Toyota corporate, who confirmed that the check had not actually been mailed at all. Edit: Exactly 2 weeks after returning the car, spam calling with no one answering (if they do, they immediately hang up on me), leaving multiple messages with zero returned calls, and following up (once again) with corporate, I have now finally gotten the FedEx confirmation that my money will be returned to me by 06/22. I received the confirmation fourteen days after terminating the contract, and nine days after it was originally agreed. This was only after them arguing that I should have to drive back up 2-3 hours to pick up the check in person after they already agreed to mail it to us before we terminated the contract. Completely refused to overnight the check as well. I have truly never dealt with this level of unprofessionalism from any business in my life. It felt like I was dealing with a bunch of children running a shop who have no idea how to handle confrontation, resorting to hanging up on me and getting snarky every time they're met with an issue. For Toyotas being such incredible cars, Hanlees Hilltop genuinely gives Toyota a bad name. read more

I arrived on time and was the third vehicle in line, yet I did not leave until 10:40 a.m. -- over three hours later for basic maintenance. When I asked about the delay, I was told there were cars ahead of me and that they were experiencing issues with their oil supply. While delays can happen, this was never communicated upfront, nor was there any realistic estimate provided. If you're running that far behind first thing in the morning, customers deserve transparency and proactive communication. The only reason this isn't a one-star review is because the woman assisting me clearly noticed my frustration from walking back and forth and grimacing facial expressions and made an effort to check on my vehicle's progress multiple times. I appreciated her professionalism, even though the overall experience was unacceptable. I've never waited more than 90 minutes for service at the Concord, Fairfield, or Vacaville locations. I genuinely wanted this to be my new maintenance dealership due to convenience, but I would rather drive 30-40 minutes to a location that respects appointment times and values customer experience. Was lied to by the sales agent before I even got into the dealership. Then got lied to several times when I went in. I was given a lot of attitude from the sales person that I was introduced to in store. He was mad that I wanted to see the price before I test drove the car. I wanted to make sure it was in my range before falling in love with it. The manager lied to us about having Costco pricing saying that they knew what the discounts were. Was all a bunch of lies because when I went to the authorized dealer he was happy to help me and show me the price before even looking at vehicles. Fairfield Toyota took care of me. Was not pushy. I came in for both recall work and the 25,000-mile service recently on my 23' RAV4 Hybrid XSE. When I picked up my car, it was clear only the recall work had been done -- the maintenance warning light hadn't been reset. I went back inside and asked about it. The service advisor looked up my car and told me I was now due for the 30,000-mile service instead. He printed out a breakdown of the recommended work, and the total came to $1,835! This is a 2.5-year-old RAV4, not a luxury vehicle that needs extensive maintenance. Nearly $2,000 for a service proposal that should only include a few routine maintenance jobs feels like blatant upselling for unnecessary work. I declined and left. What makes this worse is a prior experience at this same dealership. After routine service on my 21' 4Runner TRD Pro, I later discovered the skid plate was not properly reinstalled after the oil change -- one bolt was missing entirely and another was only half tightened. That's basic work, and it's also a safety issue. Between the extreme pricing, poor communication, and lack of attention to detail, I've lost trust in this service department. I purchased a pre-owned Toyota Camry from this dealership because their online listing clearly showed it included all-weather floor liners. After taking the car home, I discovered the liners were missing. I first contacted Mercedes, who was the salesperson that sold me the car. Instead of addressing the issue, she repeatedly told me to contact the General Sales Manager, Robert Fierro, offering no resolution herself. Then Chelsea said she would check other vehicles for a replacement set but later emailed me that none of their Camrys had all-weather floor liners. However, I found another car in their own inventory advertised with those exact liners. Even after I pointed this out, she stopped responding. When I finally reached General Sales Manager Robert Fierro, he did not reply to my emails or calls and ultimately refused to offer any resolution. Because of this, I had to order the floor liners at my own expense. Each person avoided responsibility despite clear evidence from their own advertisement. I plan to report this issue to Toyota Corporate and the Better Business Bureau so others are aware. I no longer trust this dealership and do not recommend them to anyone. Make sure to verify every advertised feature before you buy--once they have your money, their accountability disappears. My experience felt like a scam -- be careful! read more

He offered only $1000 less than my asking price which almost seemed too good to be true coming from a dealership. I qualified him several times asking that this would not be a complicated situation that they simply wanted to buy the vehicle and I would show up and we do paperwork. Well loan and behold sure enough we show up and they offer $10,000 less, there are your typical bait and switch slimy used car dealership. A few weeks ago, I went in to get a diagnosis on my Camry 2018. I started looking at the new Camry. Well, my biggest mistake was going alone and not seeing what I was signing at the end. $79,670.64 for 84 months for a Camry XSE 2026, like, what? Thank god Jewels, our family lawyer, was able to help me get out of this one. When I went to return the car, they wanted to take 7k off for all the add-ons and 7k on the car price. I said no, I don't want it. As soon as I said that Felipe the finance guy was soooo rude, I took pictures of what I signed at the end. I left, but he didn't give me copies, so I went back, and I said, "Hey, you didn't give me my copies?" He said, "Well, you took pictures; that's good enough. Plus, my manager already took the paperwork." Plus, he made me park the car in a different area. I should have said no. Jewels said DO NOT leave that dealer without getting copies. So I waited for Roger and told him that Felipe didn't want to give me my copies. He said, "Okay, I'll get them for you." I want to stress that I will not be returning to this dealership. Arrived one day and told the salesman that we will not be purchasing a vehicle today and that we are here to just look and get some estimates on pricing. The entire time, we were being pushed to buy a vehicle. Herman was our salesman and he was really nice, but it was clear everyone's intention was to get us to buy a car today. Being two women definitely did not help. They ran my credit, saying that it was to get actual estimates. It lowered my credit score. The so-called sales manager gave us a lot of attitude when he heard that we weren't buying a car. He threw up his hands and said "What's the point of you coming here if you're not going to buy a car?" That's a really rude way to speak to a potential buyer and definitely does not deserve to be a sales manager. Spent 3 hours there to "look at prices" just for them to give me an insane quote for someone who's first time buying and doesn't have much to work with. Ended up buying a brand new Honda for almost half the price per month compared to what Toyota quoted me. Spent less than 15 minutes asking about estimates at Honda. Shouldn't take 3 hours like Toyota. Me buying the car took 4 hours there, so in what world would it take 3 hours to give me estimates? Take yourself to El Cerrito Honda. I was recommended thru my fiancé co-worker to start off after signing for the car and picking it up not even 30 minutes into driving my suv it was already having issues rolled the window down to get fresh air and noticed that the windows wouldn't roll back up called my salesman and explained what was going on he had me drive back to the dealership he and his manager told me it was probably a quick fix so I left the car there he gave me a timeline of two days max to get it fixed(which wasn't true) it took almost 7 days to get the suv fixed (mind you I already dropped a down payment and signed for the suv) I had to bug them Daily called at least 5 times a day to get an update and still didn't give me one or were transparent with what was going on, fast forward to today 1 MONTH and a couple of weeks of having the suv I came across a new issue for one I noticed the tires on the suv are different brands (which shouldn't be on a All wheel drive car) I have 6 years of mechanic experience and know that's a big no no on a all wheel drive vehicle, to make things worse I used a tire depth gauge today to measure the tire tread on the front tires and the rears i noticed the front tires are at 4-32 seconds shops recommended to change your tires at 3-32 seconds on top of dealing with me not having my car I signed for it and had to wait almost 7 days to get my car back I know have to buy tires I would stay away from giving this dealership business I have 6 years of dealership experience and have never seen someone deal with this. I came here because they're supposed to do inspections on vehicles that get sold on there lot. (Which obviously didn't happen or the tech half assed the inspection) I'm barley making ends meet with these crazy times we're living in and now have to spend 900 out of my own pocket to buy tires when in reality no one buying a vehicle within a month and a couple weeks should be dealing with. read more

I went to translate for my neighbor who doesn't speak any English and I could see that they definitely try to take advantage of Latino customers. They tried to tell my neighbor in order to to buy a Tundra that he was looking at that Toyota would only lend him the money if he bought all of these additional items like an extended warranty and other items totaling over $7,000! I told them that there is no such thing having purchased cars all my life and he didn't have to purchase anything other than the car and no financial organization would issue a loan contingent on people purchasing other items. I told my neighbor that this did not appear to be a reputable dealership and subsequently we left. We went to Toyota Vallejo and had no such bait and switch issues.
