**"Terrible experience. Since I bought my 2023 Sienna, I have had almost all of my services done at this dealership. During my latest visit, they told me the oil drain plug threads were stripped (causing an oil leak) and gave me a $1,233 estimate to replace the entire oil pan. My car has 160,000 miles with fewer than 30 oil changes in total. The manager actually tried to blame me, saying that because I drive for Uber and have 160k miles, I have changed the oil "too many times," and that is why the threads are stripped. This is unbelievable! According to his logic, if I want a vehicle for long-term professional use, I shouldn't buy a Toyota, and I shouldn't maintain it frequently. I guess it's my fault for servicing the car "too many times." In his mind, it seems the oil pan and drain plug are "consumable items" that just wear out from normal use. If following the official maintenance schedule leads to a broken car after fewer than 30 services, maybe I should have bought a different brand. I brought my car in for a 20k mile tuneup, including an oil change. The mechanic who worked on my vehicle did not replace the cap to the engine oil container. I didn't realize this until I had driven over 500 miles, at which point there was almost no oil left because it had shot out all over under the hood. I had to spend more than an hour cleaning it, pay for replacement oil, then cross my fingers and hope nothing serious happened to the engine because of this incredibly sloppy mistake. Other Toyota service centers refused to help deal with the situation, even though my vehicle is less than two years old and is still covered by Toyota Care. I'm giving 2 stars instead of 1 because at least Toyota of Berkeley accepted responsibility when I was able to bring the car in, cleaned the engine compartment, changed the oil again, and replaced parts that had become damaged. They did not reimburse me for the replacement oil I bought, nor the time I spent dealing with the issue. It seems like there is no long term damage from the incident, but I guess we'll see. read more

Towed into Toyota of Berkeley on Shattuck Ave. for a flat tire. First I was told that I would have to leave the car because it was 4pm and they couldn't start on it. This is a 2026 Prius which has no spare. The next day I got a call that the tire couldn't be repaired and it was $496 to replace. I had it replaced and picked it up. Got home and noticed that they had not returned the spare tire repair kit to its spot under the floor of the trunk. I called service, and was told they would get everything replaced and returned to its location. The service manager told me "as a service to me, they replace nothing on the floor of the car to its proper place". Great! The service manager told me he would get it all put back for me. However, he did not get all the pieces put back and the second time around, left it for me to do. So. using the SOS button for emergency roadside assistance was the only thing good about this whole experience. I felt patronized and belittled by the service manager. He was more interested in joking with his buddies than helping me. $151 dollars for another bottle of goo to seal the tire so it can't get me back on the road again is quite expensive. So I have no way to fix another tire if I have a problem, because they don't even have it in stock. read more

I purchased a 2021 4Runner Feb 27th from Toyota of Berkeley. I'm generally review-averse and rarely express my concern to the masses, but it feels warranted here. *Bait and switch pricing occurred after window sticker sent, pricing online reflected, and verbal communication made with sales department* The vehicle was listed at $48,290. Hours into communication and the start of my drive from Sacramento, I get a phone call saying the price went up $49,990. After 20 min on the side of the road, they dropped it down to $48,845. I continued the commute down and made the choice to spend the extra money because I loved the 4Runner. This went against my better judgement. In person, they were appropriate, supportive and accommodating. The put a show on for my 2 young children to watch and even brought out some snacks for them. Over the phone, I couldn't believe the way some of the conversations went. I was told to feel grateful that they brought it down to only $555 more than what was initially $1,700 surprise increase. Later on a follow up call, the point was reiterated that they could have raised it $5k more if they wanted and that "there was nothing I could do about it". These conversations were with managers of the dealership. And they're right, they can. But statements like "well sir, maybe it's just more car than you can afford" after I express my frustration with the surprise price bomb appear tone deaf when they fail to see that it had nothing to do with the price, and everything to do with their integrity. If the price was as advertised, I still would have considered the purchase. The price never changed online nor as advertised in person, only internally. The Pros: -The car is great overall. Some damage to the rear cargo and passenger side were disclosed when asked over the phone, but I'm very happy with the vehicle. -Melissa in the finance department was receptive, supportive and helpful with the process. -Keith went out of his way to help me with the vehicle. -Financing was fairly seamless. -A 2 year/25k mile maintenance plan was included. The Cons: -Even at the time of purchase, the online price reflected less than what I ended up paying. And I'm not talking about about taxes/fees/reg. -Unnecessarily insulting motivated customers over the phone -Vehicle did not include all advertised features. ($500 Yakima mega rack, something I will now have to purchase on my own) -I won't shame the employees I took issue with. Maybe they were just the bearer of bad news. But their delivery sucked big time and so did their attitude. Financially, I'm out $1,050 with the surprise price increase and failing to include the rack or at least discount accordingly at time of purchase. The poor display of ethics is more concerning to me personally. I was informed multiple times "we're sorry but this never happens" regarding the price increase:". After I got a flat tire on my 2017 Toyota highlander hybrid, the spare tire cable got stuck in the up position and I couldn't replace the spare under the car! I found that this was a known warranty issue for 2014-2016 models, with the notice describing the exact same problem as my 2017. However, since there was no recall for 2017 models, Toyota wouldn't help me. Jason at the shop told me to call Toyota corporate to see if they'd cover the cost of replacing the defective part, and they established a case number and sent me back to Toyota Berkeley for inspection (costing me $130). Toyota charged me $130 for what turned out to be a WRONG diagnosis, claiming that the issue was rust. As a result of this diagnosis, Toyota corporate denied my request for a warranty replacement, saying the issue was rust and NOT a defective part. On Monday, I got the part replaced for $191 at a local shop (vs $565 quoted by Toyota Berkeley!), and they found (as stated on the receipt) "Old one was not rusty but was just stuck". I asked if I could keep the old part - as you can see in the pictures, no rust! Toyota Berkeley really screwed me - they are not trustworthy so do not use this shop! I did try to call back Toyota with this updated information, but they still would not cover the cost of the defective part. And so over how poorly they treated us with regard to this minor repair to fix a defective part, Toyota has lost two long-time customers. Never again Toyota! And certainly never again Toyota Berkeley - they are shady as hell! read more

If you need maintenance or something as simple as an oil change, come here only if you have to. Otherwise, avoid them or go somewhere else. I usually pay about 100 max for an oil change for my is250 at Toyota dealers across the bay. This location charged me 130. Parts were 40-50ish. Labor, close to 80. Even for 100, it's subjectively steep but, personally, it's worth it. I don't have to worry about making a mess or going out of the way to dispose of the oil/drop it off at a shop. 130 is reaching so imo, they're pretty much price gouging. If I had known they would be so taxing, I would have bought the parts and done it myself and/or find a car friend to use their trolley jack. Don't understand why they're charging luxury prices. I don't recommend this dealership. I called Berkeley Toyota a week in advance and explained that I needed servicing for transmission fluid, coolant, brake fluid and p/s reservoir. During the call, I also spoke with service advisor Martin Lee. I called back later asking to add a brake job to my order. This seems simple to me. But no. When I brought the car in, I had a very confusing conversation with Martin. I didn't understand what I was agreeing to. Somehow I ended up with a $122.26 charge for Berkeley Toyota to make a visual inspection and check the tire pressure - after which they would recommend any work I needed. That's a ridiculously high fee for them to simply eyeball the car without doing any tests. Besides, I had already very clearly explained what needed to be done. I had already had a thorough pre-purchase inspection for $175 elsewhere and was told I needed the services I initially called and asked for. I retrieved my car and left without having any work done, and I'm glad I did. read more

I came in on July 3rd, 2024, and Delila a very friendly and nice sales rep helped me with test driving a 2020 BMW M340i. After the test drive, I wasn't sure how to put it in park and struggled before she helped me with properly placing it in park. I liked the car so we went inside to talk numbers. After signing the contract, I was ready to leave with my car. Delila then informed me that the GWS module had locked up and they would help fix it and get back to me. Rudy the sales manager, was extremely helpful in keeping me informed and up to date throughout the whole process. On July 12th, Rudy said the car would be ready for pick up around 12-1PM. He also took extra steps to ensure the car was also filled up with gas and detailed for my arrival. Not only did he fix the module but instead of unlocking it he replaced the entire part free of cost!!! I arrived around 2pm and saw the cleaning crew wrapping up. Delilah gave me the keys and gave me a little gift for my troubles she also showed me how to properly put the car in park to avoid any issues. I left the dealership without inspecting the vehicle and drove straight to work, a 6-minute drive from the dealership. Immediately, as I'm on the freeway the tire pressure light came on. I get to work checked and found a poorly patched tire. I text my boyfriend he rushes over he took pictures of my vehicle and noticed the car bumper was broken as well! When the car was left behind there were no damages on the front bumper. I then try to make some calls and noticed my phone was about to die and decided to charge it in the car only to find out the charging port wasn't properly working. I came back to the dealership on July 23 Although almost a full week had passed by before I decided to report these issues Rudy was still extremely helpful and is planning on helping me fix these issues. My experience hasn't been the best with the car itself as some minor problems popped up after signing off on paperwork, however Rudy has stepped in and is doing everything he can to ensure customer satisfaction which is extremely appreciated! If you decide to buy a car I recommend getting Delila's help with sales and for any issues that need management's attention I recommend going to Rudy! read more

I would not recommend this dealership for anything !! they're sales suck in July of 2024 they sold me a car with more than 4 misfires and a broken headliner. It was beyond difficult to get in contact with their service team despite how easy it was the first time around when purchasing the car , they give you the run around and I was left to fix problem after problem on my own out of pocket. I notified them same day of purchase that they car began to give me problems , if i could turn back the time i'd save my money and time and avoid this dealership all together. They're service team also extremely unhelpful and unethical , i was forced to take my car to a horrible part of town in oakland to leave it because that's their only choice of service mechanic due to the "better pricing" THERE MECHANIC DID NOT FIX NOTHING! I again had to pay my mechanic to 1. double check his work 2. to actually complete the work. Unfortunately they were not willing to work with me on almost anything. This dealership lacks dignity , compassion, and authenticity. out of 5 dealership automobile purchases i experienced this was definitely by far the most stressful worst car buying experience i have ever experienced. Avoid this location if you can. The mechanics are creeps. Lock valuables in your glove compartment and don't leave your metal key. One of their mechanics went through my glove compartment and shifted everything around. I was just there for an oil change. Zero reason to open my glove compartment. I didn't realize until I saw a card on the passenger side floor. I was confused as to how it could've fallen out. I opened my glove compartment to put it back, and everything was in the wrong place. They also unplugged my dash cam! This was the second time I had my oil changed here. The first time my dash cam was unplugged but I thought they could've done it by accident. A couple of months ago I was in the market for a new Crown Insignia. The model in the color and with a tan interior is rare and hard to get. I could have gotten it with black interior at several other dealerships if I wanted it. Berkeley had one on order and I went down there to discuss a deal. They wanted $2,000 over manufactures sticker price. I told them I would pay fill sticker and nothing more. If they just said no and that would be it and I know some dealers do this and others don't. I don't like it when the sales person lies and tells me the dealership only breaks even if they sold the car at sticker and make no profits. There a profit built into the sticker price from the dealer's invoice price already, plus the dealer gets a hold back amount from the car manufacturer after the sale. No tell was made and that's fine. I just don't like to lied to; just another example that car salesman a bad name. read more

I was very disappointed with the service division. I brought my car in for routine maintenance and asked them to check the passenger front tire that was losing air. They called and told me the tire needed to be replaced and quoted me a price, and I agreed to it. Later that day, they called back and told me the price was $80 more. I decided to shop around. What I discovered is that this service division neglected to document my request to check the passenger front tire, and they neglected to tell me that it was the passenger rear tire with the problem not the passenger front, and that the reason I thought it was the passenger front was because they had incorrectly installed the passenger-side tires (which they had replaced a few months earlier) with regards to the Toyota App which is used by the consumer to monitor the tire's air pressure. Fortunately, I found a different tire shop that was able to untangle all of this and provide careful service for about $100 less. read more

I've been going there for about 10 years, maybe more. I've generally felt positive about the service, although it can get expensive as most car service is now. Last weekend I picked up my car after four days of service. The bill was over $4700 including a 3% charge for using a credit card. I expected it, so it wasn't a shock. But I needed a car during those four days so they gave me a 2025 Corolla as a loaner. I was very careful with the car making sure to park it in the three places I had to park where it was in a private driveway or in a remote parking space in a lot that was very visible to a main street. When I was home, it was in my garage. When I returned the loaner to pick up my car, they said the loaner had a scrape on it. I was floored because I knew how careful I had been driving and parking it. Frankly, I was so angry i didn't look at what they said was the scrape. I signed the paperwork for the service to my car, paid the $4700 bill and left. But before I did, I was told the manager would contact me about the scrape on the loaner. I held up my bill and said "almost $5000 and I was very careful with that car." So I advise anyone going to Berkeley Toyota service on Channing to be very careful. I won't be back. read more

I was scheduled for a 30,000 mile check up and so they gave me a quote for the cheapest service, $888. I elected to take my car to get the oil changed elsewhere and they changed the cabin filter at that time. No other services were done. I then was out of town for work and took it into the Toyota dealership in Kalispell, Montana. They did the rest of the service, and they charged me $37. I even got the full report that you get from the Toyota dealership so I know the exact same things were done- because I cross checked it from the list that I was provided by Toyota of Berkeley. Even if you takeoff money for the oil change, there's no reason why it should be almost $800 more to do the same exact work. read more

Jason 's demeanor was so kind and empathetic to my situation. He unscrewed all the parts and took off the backseat to find it! Then asked a mechanic (wish I knew his name) to help and they got a magnet to take it out!! Some heroes don't wear capes! I will be giving them my business even if it's out of the way for me! The people that work at Sales dept are shady. They shoved LuxCare (paint wax) and charged me close to $1,000. They never mentioned this to me until I got home and I was carefully reading the contract. Khanh (Sales Manager) was trying to manipulate me by asking me to remove this negative review to cover up for his lie by giving me an cheap extended maintenance plan but the fact that they said that LuxCare is mandatory on all new cars is a flat out lie because on the actual contract LuxCare is all optional. I don't recommend you buy a car from this dealership. Our experience was very unpleasant here. They also would not give me the trunk mat only after I demand it multiple times. It's a brand new car for God's sake. I highly recommend you take your business elsewhere. Please try Toyota of Walnut Creek for your next purchase as staff there are much more friendly and much more honest. Toyota of Berkeley has slowly been going down hill.
