They did not come with jalapenos so I asked for some, charging an extra $3.00 for jalapenos is ridiculous- aren't jalapenos supposed to come with nachos? Loved this place. Great enchiladas and the skinny margaritas were excellent! I searched "best margaritas in Lubbock" and this place came up. Highly recommend. Our server was fantastic, food came out quick and hot, and the atmosphere was really nice upstairs where we were sat. Just a really nice experience all around. This experience was beyond disappointing. First off, the food was bland -- seriously lacking seasoning and flavor. Everything tasted like it was missing something... maybe salt, maybe soul. Not sure. But the real issue? I found a hair in my food. Absolutely disgusting. When I brought it to the server's attention, he said no manager was available and brought over someone else who claimed to be "in charge." This person immediately got defensive and told me, "Well, it's not a lady hair," which was bizarre -- I never said it was. I don't care if it came from a man, a woman, a beard, or a ponytail. It shouldn't be in my food period. To make matters worse, they acted like I should still pay because I had already taken a few bites before noticing the hair. Excuse me? That's not how hospitality or basic hygiene works. Finally, a real manager came out, and thankfully, they took care of it properly. But by then, the damage was done. The whole situation was handled poorly from the start, and I left disgusted and furious. Between the bland food and the way this was dealt with, I won't be back. I don't know what's going on with Tex-Mex in Lubbock, but this place is not it. read more

Friendly staff. We did call ahead for 6 people. Our table was ready when we got there. The frozen mango Rita was so good! Drove 4.5 hours to Lubbock to pick up some vintage rugs, and all I wanted to eat was Mexican food. But that specific type of like, locally owned restaurant. I don't know how to explain, but it's just better. We settled on Albarran's and I miss it. Connie was incredible. I'm not going to lie, I'm getting emotional thinking about her lol. Connie was warm and kind and professional. Knew the perfect balance between talking to us and leaving us to eat. When we left she gave us some of their mints and said we have to try them. She was right. They lasted longer than normal mints of that kind. She also suggested an ice cream place nearby since we were from out of town. I wish there were more Connies in the world. read more

We were sat in the bar with the bartender being our server, who most of the time was hugged up on this customer man when we needed something. Same situation for the only other table in the bar. No idea what the food tastes like. We were greeted with blank stares from four girls at the hostess stand, so i asked for a table for 3. Then we took the slowest walk up stairs and to our table in recorded history. The floor was dirty. Given chips, salsa and menus and she disappeared. Then they sat a family immediately next to us when the restaurant was empty with the mother screaming at her daughters. Surprised to find as much crushed chips and dried salsa in my menu as on the table. Immediately, a waitress took the drink order from the screaming table. They ordered cups of ice. When their ice came, the mother pulled out 16oz bottles of coke and started to pour. Unbelievable. After 15 minutes of no service, not a drink order, I called out to a waitress and asked her to let someone know we were there. She went to the upstairs waitress station and they huddled. One looked at us and turned back around. Then they all went to the balcony and looked down on the hostess station and it was obvious they couldn't get anyone's attention. So we left. No one made eye contact with us. We are now at Abuelo's getting great service and eating delicious food. read more

*Do Not Eat Here* Had metal in my food and I bit down on food with metal in it. Manager took 30 minutes to even acknowledge the problem then decided to tell me why the metal was in my food. No apology, didn't ask if I was alright instead I get kicked out and called a bigot. Staff members were actually smiling and laughing at the fact metal was in my food and I was upset about it. The whole situation could have been handled with compassion and empathy but instead they decided to be monsters about it to protect their own butts despite major health code violations. To top it all off, it was Christmas Eve! I loved spending Christmas in pain from their metal shard. read more

I went to lunch with a group of writers after our meeting. Took forever to order, then a long wait for the food. I ordered the chili rellenos that came with potatoes and beans. I have had it with this place. I use to love this place and I have been here over 15 times. I would invite my friends to go with me here all the time. Also, we made this the restaurant​ to be the place we go to for all of our friends birthdays. But let me explain how the last 3 times of me coming here went. About 2 months ago: I came here with all of my friends for a birthday, and I was ordering food and I heard our waiter​ speak Spanish​ at the table next to us. So this led me to speak Spanish​ to our server because I love speaking Spanish​ and I am really​ trying to practice. How the waiter replied: (raises his voice for the restaurant​ and all of my friends to hear) "Oh,​ you think since I am latino I speak Spanish​, and I can't possibly​ speak English​... Well,​ I do...​" When I left, I told the manager​ and he told me-​ "sorry he just acts like that" Month ago: We ordered food and It took almost 2 hours to come out and everyone around us got their​ food and left by the time we got our food...​ We were only a group of five people... Yesterday: It was my friends 21st birthday and we came with all of our friends to eat here. We ordered drinks and they came out on time. Then we ordered all of our food and I asked the waiter​ if there was a charge for tortillas​ and he told me that there ​wouldn't​ be (there was). It took about 45 min for our food to come​ out which​ isn't terrible for this place but he dropped off our food and messed up on 3 of my friend's​ orders and then after he dropped off the​ food we set there for about an hour and a half waiting for water​ or the check or something.... I literally​ had one glass of water the whole time I was there... I even asked a couple times. Also, he messed up on all of our tickets and then I finally just gave him my card and just asked him to charge me for whatever​ he wants so I can leave. Sidenote- He walked past our table like 3 times talking to his friends and totally​ ignored us when we tried to get his attention. I still gave him a 20% tip and tried not to act rude. read more

I've gone back to this place and they are very inconsistent from service, food, and drinks. We went for Cinco de Mayo for good drinks. I got a Michelada, and it came out hot and in a small plastic cup, and I got charged the same amount. A friend got a margarita, and it came out in a tiny plastic cup with lipstick on it?! They seated us upstairs and it was extremely hot and uncomfortable! The server later told us their AC upstairs had broken. They definitely should've closed the upstairs because of this. Having recently moved to Lubbock, I have been making my way through all the Mexican restaurants in the area in hopes of finding the best one - and I've found it! I came to Albarran's for the first time with my boyfriend a few weeks ago - it was a 10 PM Saturday night and we were desperate for a Mexican dinner. Unfortunately, for those of you who know Lubbock, you know that 90% of restaurants close by 9 PM even on a Saturday night. Albarran's was one of the few places that was open, so we decided to check it out, and we were not dissapointed! Not sure what's up with the bad reviews in the past, but I anticipate things have changed recently! We decided to sit at the bar, and just wanna say that the bartender we had was awesome! He was attentive without checking on us too much, which created a very chill and laidback atmosphere at the bar. That plus the TVs made it a great place to have a drink and a meal. I got a marg and my boyfriend a rum and coke, both were well made and solidly strong, which we appreciated considering it was a Saturday night! Food wise, the salsa was excellent. As someone who appreciates spicy food, the salsa had a solid kick while not being empowering, and was very flavorful. My boyfriend and I got our usuals - chicken enchiladas with rice and beans. I got the green sauce while he decided on the red sauce, and we were both VERY satisfied. The portions were very generous, the enchiladas were well cooked and delicious - so much flavor! What I most appreciated was that they didn't overdo it with the cheese - I feel like lots of restaurants overdo the cheese on top of the sauce and its literally like you're eating enchiladas with just cheese. But that was not the case with Albarran's at all. Overall, excellent experience. I've already gone back twice since that first time! Highly recommend! read more

We tried this place for the first time yesterday and loved it. Service was prompt and consistent, decor was good, and it wasn't too loud/crowded. The food was excellent - I got the carne asada fries and a side of tortillas to make California burritos, and my wife got the barbacoa tacos. It was a bit more expensive than smaller Mexican restaurants ($40 for our two meals plus my wife's drink), but easily worth the price. We will be back. read more

Don't know why anyone would choose to leave their garbage outside the front door. But it is what it is. For one this looks bad for the restaurant and it reflects poorly on management. So after we were seated we asked for the manager and we discreetly told about the trash. He said " okay, I'll take care of it". So then why is it that when we left the manager was standing at the front chatting it up with several staff members? When we walked outside the trash was still there !!! read more
