Alba's glass is by far one of the most professional, courteous and value-packed service companies I've ever countered, much less the best glass company I've ever dealt with. It's kind of an interesting story how I know. When I broke the 4 foot by 8 foot tempered glass panel in my apartment, it *really sucked*. Broken glass everywhere like freaking Die Hard. Had to keep the cat away from the broken glass. Hardwood floors in my apartment, so there were fragments *everywhere*. I called around to three different glass places and everyone said "Well we can give you an estimate tomorrow and maybe have it done in four days... oh and for about $800 including the rush fee." Nobody mentioned at least putting some simple covering over the giant, gaping hole in my apartment. I won't mention which glass companies I called, but they seemed either way too busy or just solely intent on getting the most money they could out of my unfortunate situation. Then I called Alba's Glass. The lady on the phone - who turns out to be one of the couple that runs the business - was incredibly courteous and nice, probably the first nice person I talked to that day. Reminded me of my mom. Every time they get called, she explained, it's usually an emergency. They had someone out to look at my window and board it up with plastic... within 45 minutes. Not one day. Not 'maybe tomorrow'. FORTY FIVE MINUTES. And you know what, who shows up but the CEO himself, and he sets me up with a replacement panel for the very next day. Let's pause a moment to reflect upon service in this day and age. In volume businesses and franchises that focus on turnover, it is very rare to find someone that gives the impression they actually care about you; if they do give that impression, it tends to be fake, like when you call the phone company and they tell you "We value your business!". True service - as in actually serving someone - is rare in this day and age from any kind of company, least of all from a company that deals with agitated people with broken windows like Alba's. It takes maturity and humility and immense patience to truly serve someone professionally and you need to like what you're doing. The best part is, the price they quoted me was two-thirds, in some cases HALF what other places wanted to charge. Here's the good part of the story. So the guy shows up the next day, good to go with a glass panel. I'm excited - no more freaking plastic in my apartment! He strips out the old metal frame, takes out the rubber, goes to put it on this brand new glass panel he just got from the factory - and the damn thing breaks. Just shatters, right there in the hall. No apparent cause, it just breaks into a million pieces right there on the soft carpet. For one long second, Mr. Alba and I stare at each other, like, "WTF!?!?!" Apparently tempered glass that is unevenly heated or stressed can shatter suddenly - this was not a thing I was thinking and I do not suspect that Mr. Alba was either at that moment. For that moment I suspect we were both just thinking, "Ahhh... crap." Let's pause for another moment that truest of all tests of a man, how a man reacts to an sudden, unexpected and terrible thing. Had Mr. Alba started weeping, clapping his hand to his forehead, cursing in a foreign language or asking me what the hell I did (nothing!), that would have been fairly normal. If he'd started wailing or asking God for an explanation that would have been fairly normal. People have frustrating days and this kind of thing happens. He'd just gotten a parking ticket on the way over as it turns out. Had this kind of day happened to me I'd probably be pretty obviously not a happy camper, let's put it that way. You know what he did? None of those things. To Mr. Alba's immense credit, he recovered his composure with admirable speed, called his wife to order a new panel as soon as possible, cleaned up the broken glass, boarded up my window, apologized for this crazily inexplicable inconvenience, and arranged to have a new panel made immediately. I learned something that day by watching how he conducted himself. That, gents, is how a MAN conducts himself. (Take notes Comcast guy.) It was going to take the weekend, so it would take two additional days to have my glass replaced. At that point, considering that the Albas were out the cost of one glass panel already, not to mention having to come back again to service my pitiful apartment, they could have charged me extra and I wouldn't have objected... things happen. But no. They didn't charge me a dime extra for the broken panel. And so now, looking at my new window, instead of muffins or some crappy tip, here's how I'm returning the good they did me. These guys are the best glass installation service in the Bay, period. Don't squander your money anywhere else. If you ever need them... they will truly take care of you. read more

Presenting my very first review for 2015 and brace yourselves, it is a positive one. A very positive one I am delighted to say! On Saturday morning, I slammed the back door and the window broke in many pieces. "Oh great!" I thought among others. I swept up the glass and headed to Yellow Pages to seek help in getting the glass window replaced ASAP. The Mother told me that I would not find anybody available during the New Year's holiday weekend. I called around to four places and got quite lucky on the fourth phone call to a place called Alba Glass in Berkeley. I was so relieved when a sweet lady named Lillian answered the phone and on a weekend!. I told her of my predicament and that it was an emergency. She gave me an unbelievable price, everything was included in the price. She told me that Ben would be over in about an hour's time. When I hung up, I checked and read the Yelp! reviews. Four and a half stars, whew! I was really fortunate and thanked the man upstairs that I found Alba Glass. When Ben came over, I took him around the back and showed him the door and the broken glass. And I made sure to introduce him to The Mother. The Mother and I obtained his business card before he set to work on replacing our glass window. About two or so hours later, Ben replaced the broken glass window with a thicker, stronger and tempered one. And along with cleaning up, he took the broken glass to be disposed of properly. We thanked him so much for coming on a weekend. Ben told us that his company was a 24/7 business. The Mother and I were very relieved to hear that a 24/7 window replacement business exists. And if any other windows break through no fault of our own or of my own fault, you bet I will be calling Alba Glass. And true to her word, Lillian emailed my invoice to me the following business day. Thank you Lillian, it was a pleasure doing business with you, Ben, and Alba Glass. Thank you so much for giving us a better, stronger glass door window (and for saving my hide). I've worked for years with another local glass company and found that they had far less attention to detail, were really too busy to follow up, and generally charged too much for all those wonderful qualities. Alba's was exactly the opposite. I'm sorry the one reviewer below had a bad experience. I guess no one is perfect. Ben is knowledgeable about his trade and his quotes were always quick and accurate. I used Alba's to replace some cracked glass, reglaze sliding glass doors, and install shower doors. All with excellent results. I expect to ask Ben for his numbers first from now on. I get the results I want at a fair price and in much less time than the local competition. read more

Short story: find another glass shop if you have needs that are anything beyond basic or want a shop to stand behind their recommendations!!!!! Long story: We were so happy to find Alba Glass with all their good reviews. We needed shower glass installed for two showers and glass panels for our kitchen cabinets. Ben and Lillian were very nice and helpful. They got back to us quickly and seemed to know what they were talking about. But when the glass arrived, all that fell apart. We ordered three things from them. NONE of them worked. 1. Shower glass door for double shower. We discussed what I wanted. Ben described what he recommended. Sounded good to me. What arrived was different. It had this random metal bar that helped to "secure" the glass. It was ugly and the glass wall was still wobbly. Very wobbly. Ben said it should be fine and if it fell, the glass manufacturer would cover it. :| After some back and forth, Alba Glass said they'd cover labor for a more secure option and we'd split the cost of the new glass. I was frustrated b/c they (1) changed the order I placed and (2) recommended something that was so obviously shoddy when installed and tried to get me to keep it (and if any issue, place a warranty claim with the glass manufacturer). But I just wanted to be able to take a shower in my bathroom, so I paid for it. 2. Glass panels for our kitchen cabs. They installed the glass but it was totally loose. I told Ben, and he dismissively said "impossible". Then he looked and saw I was right. He used some pins to pin the glass in. At least they didn't charge me for this fix. 3. Shower glass door for shower over bath. I wanted something so that we could turn on the shower and also not have water go all over the place. Ben recommended a certain configuration. I said, fine. Glass is installed and we have guests who take a shower. Water is all over the floor. I take a sample shower to see. The glass is waaay too short. I let them know. They say that no shower glass is water tight. Seriously. The glass needs to be at least 16" longer. I went with the length they recommended. But they say I just need to buy a new shower door and pay for labor (at $800 something dollars). They will not stand by the fact that they said the length they recommended, sold me, and installed is too short. Soooooo... Alba Glass does not know how to do custom shower glass or kitchen cabinet glass. Nor will they stand behind their recommendations. Shop elsewhere. read more

Very friendly and do an awesome job. They do a lot more than window repair btw. I went to have my funky mirror with shutters (purchased many years ago at the Ashby flea market) replaced. Since I know nothing at all about mirrors I asked for something fairly inexpensive that would make me look good. haha. They totally did it! Alba's Glass did an amazing job ordering and installing my new seamless glass shower door. Not only that, but they fixed the silicone caulking on my master shower door at no additional charge, as mold had gotten trapped under it, discoloring a small section. (a different company had installed that door.) That's service above and beyond the call of duty. Although there was one small measurement issue, they dealt with it very quickly and very professionally. Very friendly and courteous. After emailing them pictures of my broken window and other information, they responded within an hour with the price estimate. It was a bit on the high side, but that's because they drove all the way to my house and applied new glass then and there, all within 30 minutes! I think next time, to reduce costs, I may try to disassemble the frame and bring directly to their business, which they confirmed would be cheaper. From start to finish a pleasant experience! Alba's Glass came to our house and replaced a door mirror. They had to take the door out, schlepp it down the stairs and out to the curb. When they came with the fixed mirror, they accidentally hit the ceiling light fixture. I felt so sorry for Ben, who was injured on his face. They just came and replaced the fixture. It's nicer than the old one. They didn't even ask me to pay or pay half of the light fixture... If I ever have a glass or mirror problem again, I know whom to call! read more

We had some workers from a company break a mirror in our home, so we went on line and found Alba Glass. A gentleman(I assume was Mr.Alba because he did not give his name)came out to give a quote. I was not home but in the middle of giving the quote to my wife, I came home. I ask the price and he gave a price I thought was very high. He became very obnoxious, rude, and unprofessional. He said that he was Iranian, don't believe what is said on Yelp, and American products are not any good. He got really irritated at us because we disussed the price with him, and constantly ask him to repeat what he said, because his English was very poor. Super nice people. Maybe these guys can install a super basic shower door but I paid $1000 for a high end bypass shower door with thick glass. Nothing went right during the install which took 3 tries to get installed. One and a half years later the door is scraping the bottom rail and they claim it's out of warranty. The mfg rep came out and inspected and said that the side rails were cut too short and the problem needs to be fixed. He also said the caulking wasn't done right. Albas won't return to fix it right. My next report is going into BBB and CA lic board. Maybe that will help get them to fix it but I'm not holding my breath. read more

We have a custom sunburst window that is 10 feet long in our living room and was almost 100 years old and leaking. I was afraid no one would be able to replace it so that it looked like the original. ALBA's Glass did a fantastic job by creating a template and re-creating the arch and all the individual panes in the sunburts, using laminated glass. It is much better built than the original, but doesn't have the heavy look of double-pane. We are very happy with their work! read more
