We have been frequent customers. Tonight was sub par. The main problem we had was that we felt rushed the entire time. Our salads were brought on top of our appetizers and the worst part was that we spent $90 on caesar salads that were supposed to be made fresh at our table but were brought to us....pre-made in the back, wilted, over dressed and tiny. We watched as the table next to us had theirs made fresh at their table while ours very obviously been sitting around for some time. The main dishes were just okay. Our waiters were rushing, we were never offered water a second time as we once again watched the table next to us get refills on water and come dessert our waiter literally went through the choices so quickly that we had no idea what he even said. We will not rush back which is unfortunate as we have had great experiences before. I am literally left feeling quite like they were doing US a favor for coming in. read more

We've had some "Okay" meals here over the years but made a polite inquiry about the clearly odd smell of a chicken based entree & were met with abject fury by management. The undersized (overpriced) portion looked as odd as it smelled. No professional suggestion was made to rectify this spoiled food they served. We opted to depart and have dinner at one of the many outstanding nearby restaurants. Alba's did not hesitate to charge us for the untouched food & impressed us that they are clearly in the wrong line of business. We won't miss our car being jackrabbited by the valet. read more

We've eaten at Albas for many years and have celebrated many occasions there. While the food is very good, they do not honor reservations and special promises. On more then one occasion they did not deliver what was promised and jacked up their (specials) prices. While we understand restaurants suffered thru Covid, we have found that Albas prices have become unrelistically high. While we had a reservation well in advance of Saturday because we wanted outside seating only and was told it would not be a problem. Upon arrival we were told they have no tables and we would have to wait. When I asked what happened to our reservation, I was told by the young woman who responded they are very busy and I would have to wait. When I complained I was told I could go somewhere else! We will not go back again. For their prices I can go to many more upscale and good restaurants. read more

A first rate Italian restaurant with somewhat formal service and a beautiful setting. I've been several times for special occasions and found our treatment just fantastic, whether with colleagues after an event or for my grown son's birthday. The menu is traditional Italian, but with grilled meat and fish, as well. The table-side prepared Caesar salad is fantastic, equal to Pietro's in New York. Individual dishes have been memorable: spaghetti carbonara, veal with crabmeat and cognac sauce and the cornish hen; however, some specials have been just outstanding, once in lifetime kind of dishes, like the pasta with shaved truffles, which was just amazing (though very expensive!) and worth every penny to see the look of transcendence on my son's face. It was the kind of meal that we will remember for years. The restaurant has been remodeled with a highly-polished finish. The fireplace and rugs in the main dining room are very elegant. The parking lot has been expanded to accommodate the crowds and it looks like there are various private dining possibilities available. All I know is that it is one of the few places in the area where I am careful to be nicely dressed (at least business casual), not because of any requirement, but because I want to look as nice as I feel when I go here. Albas is among the best Italian restaurants I have seen and, for me, the place to go for that cuisine. Highly recommended. read more

After awhile of being told I had to check out Alba's,I finally got a chance to get there for my wife's birthday and unfortunately we both left a little disappointed. I don't know maybe i just overhyped it in my mind . First off the service is fantastic, had a great comfortable feel and very clean . The food on the other hand didn't seem to have that wow factor , we ordered a couple of appetizers while they were good just nothing fantastic . For dinner we had a veal dish and the rack of lamb and once again it was just ok . I dunno maybe i overhyped it but I felt there were no WOW taste's and I was disappointed on a over $200 meal . Maybe one day I will try it again but I feel no need to get back there soon . read more

Excellent service. Delicious food. Superb mixed seafood with garlic and olive oil. Fair bread greatly improved by fragrant olive oil. Excellent breadsticks. Broccoli rabe was perfect; not bitter or tough. Salmon fine, but portion a bit small. Desserts very tempting, but we resisted. capaccino perfect. Alba's is a first class restaurant. Just had my son's rehearsal dinner there, and couldn't be happier! The event coordinator was professional, attentive and friendly. The service was perfect, the food excellent - we had penne w/ a light olive oil garlic, cherry tom, olive sauce - mmmm - next, mixed greens, then chicken w artichoke heart white wine sauce, or striped bass grilled w/ lemon olive oil w wine, tira miso - my husband said the best he's had - capaccino or tea or whatever. Great pinot grigio and chianti...the room was elegant but had a warmth that made everyone comfortable...free valet parking was super efficient - just leave a tip - and what else can I say? Poor service, moderate food - will not be going back. We had 4 different waiters throughout the night and almost felt that our table was being ignored. Food was fine but not worth the price or the service that was provided. I'll be going elsewhere for upscale Italian dinners. My favorite dish is the Branzino!! it is cooked to perfection- its so soft the fish melts in your mouth. The food was excellent! I loved the authentic parmigiana reggiano and olives they bring as starters- all of the pastas were fresh and cooked perfectly al dente, the veal picatta was amazing- pounded thin, cooked well and finished with a great sauce. We have always loved coming to Alba's for their consistency in food and service. Unfortunately this visit was disappointing. Service was off the mark/ we didn't get the signature cheese & olives, we had to ask for water and bread refills, were never asked if we wanted more drinks. Food was just not great - maybe a different chef? Yes there's the old saying that a restaurant is only as good as its last meal. Went on Easter with my family. We've gone here numerous times in the past, so when we were scrambling last minute to find a restaurant, we decided to go with a safe bet. As always, the food was amazing. I got the penne alla vodka this time around; the pasta was al dente and the cream sauce, while delicious, was super rich. I could only eat half my plate (maybe having 6 glasses of water while waiting for my food was a bad idea), so my grandpa, after eating his fish dish, ended up polishing off the rest of mine. Dessert has never been very good at this place, which is disappointing. The food is exceptional, but the sweets are not worth the money or calories. I got this brownie sort of cake, and it came with a scoop of vanilla ice cream. The former was soft, had nuts in it, and was relatively tasteless; the latter was icy and just not good. Do your stomach and wallet a favor and don't even consider it if you come here. I took one bite and was tempted to spit it out. The rest of the plate remained untouched. Remainder of the family got a coconut cream pie (the best thing at the table, but was incredibly bland and the crust was inedible), tartufo (icy), a bowl of strawberries/blueberries (weren't sweet at all), and a cheesecake (meh). Now here's my issue with the place: the staff. We've had, out of the handful of times we've gone to Alba's, two decent waiters. The rest are not pleasant to be around. On Sunday, our waiter was quite possibly the worst we've ever had. He was condescending, arrogant, and...well, an all around douchenugget. He rushed us and got into an "argument" (I use this word loosely) with my grandfather over the pronunciation of a region the waiter was from. My grandfather grew up in Italy, too. He has the ability to sniff out all the people who can speak Italian, Spanish, or Albanian. He gets along with EVERYONE he meets when we're out at family lunches and dinners. And while it never got nasty between the two, I was still shocked our waiter had the audacity to continually tell my grandfather that his pronunciation was wrong. It was such a petty thing to bicker over and left a bad taste in our mouths. Everyone at the table was calling him an ass--even my grandmother, who thinks the world of everyone she meets. After that little show, our waiter was nowhere to be seen. Another waiter ended up serving us dessert, and once my grandfather got his coffee, the douchey waiter came back and practically flung the check at us. Never once did he ask me what was wrong with my dessert, and he did not comp us for it. Everyone told him to hand me the bill because I was treating, and he behaved as if he was surprised I would even be paying the meal. Yes, guy, I have a job. I can afford a family dinner every once in a while. After that experience, we're leaving Alba's as a last minute "crap, can't find another place to go to" restaurant for future family events. I am an Italian citizen from Northern Italy (Lake Como) so when I heard that in the next town there was a Northern Italian restaurant called Alba, I was very excited. It is not normal to see Italian restaurants catering to Northern Italian style cooking. I have to say, when I went to Alba, I was very disappointed. Now, I want to say that I did not have too high expectations just because I am from Lake Como, however the food at Alba is terrible, by any standards. I think that if you goto Stop and Shop and get their Risotto, you will eat better at one tenth the price. The food is downright bad, and not fresh at all. Furthermore, the prices are sky-high, Manhattan type pricing. The building is an old house, with apartments upstairs, and the neighborhood is dangerous. Given all the above, I think the worst thing about Alba is not the food, prices, ambiance, or neighborhood, but those who work there. These really are the rudest, slowest people on the planet. It took 45 minutes to get me my pasta! The management is terrible as well. Don't waste your money. Trust me... read more

Never had a bad bite at Albas in maybe a few dozen meals. The ceasar salad is the best I've ever had. The Branzino is perfect. Both are prepared tableside and can be customized in any way you like. Veal chops come out perfectly cooked and juicy -- I eat every bite then gnaw on the bone the get the last scraps. When you arrive, they out out bread, olives, and chunks of parmesan. The olive oil on the table is excellent, fruity and spicy. Love the staff and they love us. We go all the time, me, my wife and four kids. Everyone from the valet parking guy on is friendly and attentive. Sometimes funny. Sometimes it gets busy and it can be hard to get someone's attention. Life. They're trying, they're staffed appropriately, they just get overwhelmed. Back to the food: I grew up in New York City and am pretty familiar with standard Northern Italian fare. They do it great at Albas, and throw in some southerners like spaghetti with clams -- excellent. My wife loves the dover sole and the spaghettu carraterra. The deserts are really, really good. Try a poached pear or the italian cheesecake. The wine list is heavily weighted towards Tuscany. I'm more of a Piedmont guy, but they have excellent selections nonetheless. Lots of them. High prices. Reasonable prices very much to be found and plentiful, but I wouldn't say bargains exactly. If you're not splurging, go with the Chiantis or the Rosso di Montalcinos. I've never found the staff particularly helpful when it comes to the wines. They won't make a bad recommendation, but I've never gotten the off-the-charts great selection that I wouldn't have made myself. Albas is pretty world class, right here in Port Chester. If you live nearby and haven't tried it, I recommend you do. The place is overrun with regulars -- there's a reason for that. read more

Really 4 1/2 stars... It was a snowy Saturday evening, but the main room still got fairly full. We were given a great table. We ordered all specials for apps and main course, and they were all excellent: Nantucket Bay scallops, Burrata, special pasta with veal, and special steak (note: expensive as expected). We selected desserts from the chariot; they were okay; still need to figure out what are the best desserts. Double espressos made a nice ending. Went on Valentine's Day. The service was virtually non-existent - waited at least 1/2 hour for the menu - 1/2 hour for taking our order - 1/2 hour for appetizers -1/2 hour for entre-never were asked about dessert - never had the same waiter throughout the meal and when we did get their attention - it was abrupt and unintelligible. The food we did get was terrible - cold - the veal was like shoe leather and portions undersized. Two 2 inch medallons of veal scallopini. Heard others around us complaining as well. This has been our special occasion restaurant for many years. On a recent Saturday evening, we made reservations through Open Table for a table for 2 for a birthday dinner. The experience was very, very sub par. It started with the option of a table in the breezeway between the main and rear dining room next to a service station. We declined and were given the option of the rear dining room. The waiter took our wine order, announced the specials and after taking our order never returned to our table until delivering the check. The meal was lousy. We ordered an appetizer special of stuffed artichoke. It was soggy and bland. It had been sitting in a steam table for quite awhile. Both our main courses were a big disappointment. My chicken was rubbery in texture and the fish meal was in a red sauce with very little flavor. No one came to the table to see how the meal was. We offered our disappointment to the bus boy who said he would let the chef know. We had to flag down someone to get our bill. The credit card sat on the table for 15 minutes and ultimately had to be brought to the hostess station to be paid. The hostess said she was so sorry. Lousy, table, lousy, service and lousy food. We will be going elsewhere for special occasions going forward. read more

What makes Alba's such a great experience is the interaction with the staff and the idea that they will make whatever dish you really want. Just tell them what you want and there it is. I always ask them to make me baked stuff clams since I don't get them very often where I live in LA. My family has a Christmas luncheon there every year, and let me tell you, if you go at lunch you get a lot of attention from the staff. The food is really great including the desserts. And we have a bunch of tough Italian food critics in our crowd. Ask for Nick as your head waiter and you won't be disappointed. Have fun! Wish I was there too! read more

This restaurant was disappointing from the start. We arrived to an empty parking lot and a valet asked us to pay him to park. We said no, and he was annoyed. When we entered the restaurant, they would only verbally give us a wine list without prices, rather than handing us a menu. Throughout the meal, seven people hovered over us constantly. Beware - not a family friendly, kid friendly restaurant. I was very disappointed, a little humiliated and a bit angry with the service my family and I received at our most recent visit to Alba's. We decided to go here on a Thursday evening to celebrate my son's birthday. I am an expecting mom and showed up with my two kids a few minutes before our reservation time. We were waiting for my husband who was coming directly from the airport. The kids and I sat quietly in a corner table close to the bar while waiting. My son started saying he was hungry and I could tell my daughter probably was feeling the same so I thought it better to move to our table and just begin ordering for them. As we got up, my daughter, who is 1, got upset and cried loudly for less than 30 seconds. As we walked to the entrance of the main dining room, the waiter, about to seat us, asked me if I could guarantee that the kids would behave during dinner as he did not want to get complaints from the other patrons. Keep in mind that this was early (6:30ish) on Thursday and the restaurant had maybe 3-4 tables filled that I could see. If you have ever been to this restaurant it is a very large space. We could have easily sat at a different section of the restaurant that was not filled. I was so shocked and humiliated that I was speechless for a few seconds. In that moment, my husband walked in and after seeing the look on my face, asked what was going on. After I repeated what the waiter said to me, we confirmed that this is what he meant and he repeated that he didn't want any complaints so he wanted to make sure the kids would behave. Needless to say we immediately left. We live nearby and with this type of service and treatment we will never go here again. read more

My husband and I were invited by our children and the two very cute grandchildren for Mother's day and it was just wonderful. We didn't feel rushed, we were served very well.
